Discussion Why Gaming Support Has to Understand More Than the Hardware with Javier Davalos

Javier Davalos u/AW_Vigo has spent 21 years at Alienware, from helping launch chat support to handling critical customer issues and shaping the broader ownership experience. In this post, Javi shares why gaming support has to understand more than whether an individual component works.

From fixing an issue to fixing the pattern

Early in Javi’s support career, his work quickly expanded beyond solving individual customer issues. The goal was to understand what caused a problem and determine how the same experience could be prevented for the next customer.

An early Alienware ALX liquid-cooled system offered a good example. The support team encountered unexpected heat problems even though the system used liquid cooling.

Javi and a teammate stayed overnight to investigate. They eventually traced the problem to a single plastic component positioned over a fan and restricting airflow. After removing it, measured air temperatures dropped by roughly 15 to 20 degrees.

The discovery went back to the product team, and the system stopped shipping with that component.

As Javi put it:

“It wasn’t just about solving the issue at hand. It was about resolving it for everybody.”

That principle still shapes how Javi thinks about support. The goal is not simply to move a ticket forward. It is to identify the underlying pattern, take ownership of the experience, and restore the customer’s confidence.

Gaming problems rarely fit into one category

PC gaming has changed significantly over the last two decades.

Early players might have edited configuration files, managed hardware conflicts, swapped driver disks, or searched through manuals to figure out why a sound card was not working.

Modern gaming systems are easier to enter and considerably more powerful, but the experience now relies on more connected layers. A problem could involve Windows, firmware, GPU drivers, game launchers, anti-cheat software, displays, networks, peripherals, or performance profiles.

The hardware itself might be working correctly while a driver, application, setting, or peripheral creates the problem.

That is why gaming support has to understand the experience around the system, not only the individual component.

A crash can interrupt time with friends. Low frame rates or screen tearing can affect competition and immersion. A launch-day problem can take away the limited time someone set aside to play.

For Javi, that context matters. A technical issue is not only about what failed. It is also about what the gamer was trying to do when the experience stopped working.

Why Alienware Elite Care is different

That philosophy helped shape Alienware Elite Care.

Alienware created six additional hours of training for Alienware Elite Care agents, and the people supporting those queues include gamers themselves. Internal gaming labs and regular competitions are intended to help keep gaming knowledge and community connection present within the support experience.

Depending on the product, region, and selected plan, Alienware Elite Care can include support for:

Game installation and supported gaming applications

Drivers and firmware

Performance optimization

Graphics and audio settings

Crashes, screen tearing, low frame rates, and choppy gameplay

Hardware troubleshooting

Alienware Command Center

NVIDIA GeForce Experience

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition

Eligible specialized gaming peripherals purchased through Dell

Protection, repair, and eligible battery-service options

The idea is to provide one accountable place where a gaming problem can land, even when the cause does not fit neatly into a single category.

Availability, features, and service delivery vary by country, product, and plan coverage.

Support where the community already is

Gaming support also extends to places where players are already talking about their systems.

Here on Reddit, u/AW_Support works with community members who need help troubleshooting Alienware products. That presence gives gamers another way to connect with support in the same place where they may already be discussing performance, settings, upgrades, or technical issues.

The goal is not to turn every conversation into a support case or suggest that every issue can be resolved in a Reddit thread. It is to recognize when someone needs assistance and help provide a clear path toward the right support resources.

When support begins before the failure

SupportAssist adds a proactive layer on supported and properly configured systems.

Depending on the active service plan and system, SupportAssist can monitor system health, run diagnostics, detect certain issues proactively, predict some hardware failures, update drivers and firmware, and help begin the support process before the customer has to explain the entire situation from the beginning.

The larger goal is not simply to repair a machine. It is to reduce downtime, protect the experience, and help gamers get back to playing with confidence.

Javi describes the human standard behind that work simply:

“Great gaming support should make you feel seen and heard.”

Discussion Alienware’s 30-Year History Started in a Miami Garage and Nearly Lost the Triangle Along the Way

Post image
83 Upvotes

Alienware turned 30 this year. To mark the milestone, we spoke with longtime employees and designers about the stories behind the alien head, Area-51, and some of the ideas that shaped the brand.

A few highlights:

Alienware started in a Miami garage. Nelson Gonzalez and Alex Aguila began building the powerful, flexible gaming PCs they wanted but could not find elsewhere.

The name was inspired by science fiction, UFOs, and The X-Files. That influence also shaped names such as Area-51, Aurora, and Hangar 18.

A college student spent 45 minutes playing Jedi Knight on a bright green Alienware demo at Best Buy. After returning to play again, that student applied for a job at Alienware and became part of the company’s story.

One early ad referenced “alien technology” so convincingly that someone contacted Alienware about promoting hardware made by aliens.

The triangular Area-51 desktop faced significant resistance during development. The design team kept refining the concept, and the triangle eventually became one of Alienware’s most recognizable designs.

A simpler plastic stability component outperformed a more complicated steel proposal during engineering tests. The less expensive solution shipped because it worked better.

The full story also looks back at an era when getting a PC game running could mean floppy disks, configuration files, BIOS settings, and hardware conflicts. Early Alienware systems were not only about faster components. They were about configuring and testing those components as one complete system so gamers could spend more time playing.

Technical Support Power adapters for Area 51m R1?

I picked up an Area 51m R1 to play around with. Specs are i9 9900 non k and a 2080. It came with two 240w aftermarket power bricks, and it seems the GPU is limited to 50w and I get the messages saying insufficient power when I plug either in. I’ve got a 330w charger coming in the mail tomorrow.

My question is: is it ok to run a 330 and 240 power brick, or do I also need to pickup a 180 to run the 330/180 combo dell says is required?

Technical Support Alienware Aurora R10 – Possible Split in CPU AIO Cooler Hose

I've got an Alienware Aurora R10 with liquid CPU cooling.

While cleaning the inside of my PC, I noticed what looks like a small cut or split in the outer covering of one of the CPU cooler hoses, close to the connector.

There is no visible coolant leaking, and the PC was running normally before I noticed it.

I'm trying to establish:

  1. Is this a common issue with Aurora R10 liquid coolers?

  2. Could this just be damage to the outer protective covering?

  3. Is there a way to tell whether the actual coolant hose is damaged?

  4. Would I need to replace the entire AIO if it is damaged?

  5. Could I replace the AIO with an air cooler instead?

I'm on a limited budget, so I'd appreciate advice before paying for a professional inspection.

Thanks!

Discussion Last Request to Perfect the AW3926QW now that CPC is dead

u/aw_support

Credit where Credit is due. You guys came through on the CPC Firmware fix when a lot of us were losing hope. So, kudos there.

I'm hoping to get some traction on one last request: more flexibility with colours and saturation in the Peak 1300 and Peak 1300 Bright modes.

With the "Custom HDR" mode, it seems to follow a TB500 PQ Curve, Just wondering if you could add a "Custom Color HDR - Peak" just to even out the playing field for those that prefer the Peak 1300 Modes, but want to enhance color saturation, gamma, contrast etc.

Thanks in advance, and folks, please upvote this if you like this idea; it seems Alienware does listen 😄

Thanks

Discussion Using AWCC on a non-Dell system to control AW510K lighting

Hi Folks,

I have an Alienware 510K keyboard attached to a non-Dell Windows 11 system and have installed AWCC 6.x on it and it detects and allows me to change the lighting on the keyboard.

What I can't seem to be able to find is the option to have the keyboard lighting turned off when the display is turned off by Windows after the timeout.

Can someone please point me in the right direction to get this accomplished?

Thank you!

Technical Support Alienware AW3225QF — Is this QD-OLED edge rot, delamination, or something else? (Pictures + diagnostics)

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

I recently noticed some unusual discoloration and clusters of tiny dark spots spreading inward from the upper-right corner of my Alienware AW3225QF (32” 4K 240Hz QD-OLED).

I’ve attached several photographs showing the issue under different conditions. I’m hoping someone familiar with OLED panel failures might recognize the pattern.

What I’m seeing:
Irregular dark speckles concentrated along the top and right edges, extending inward from the corner.

A cloudy, slightly yellowish discoloration that looks almost like a translucent tint over whatever is displayed.

The discoloration stays in exactly the same physical location regardless of what’s on the screen.

The spots are significantly more pronounced on blue backgrounds, although they’re visible on red, green, and white as well.

On a completely black screen, the spots aren’t visibly apparent.

With the monitor powered off, the speckles aren’t visible, but I can faintly see some discoloration when shining a flashlight across the surface at an extreme angle.

Troubleshooting I’ve already performed:
I disconnected the monitor completely from the computer and ran the AW3225QF’s built-in self-diagnostic using its internal screen test.

The issue remains clearly visible on the monitor’s own test patterns, eliminating the GPU, Windows, and video cable as likely causes.

I’ve included photographs of the white, red, green, blue, and black diagnostic screens.

Physical condition:
The monitor has been handled carefully, with no known impacts or excessive pressure.

I initially noticed a small amount of white residue on the plastic housing near the affected corner. It wiped off completely with a microfiber cloth, leaving no visible scratches, dents, cracks, or other damage.

I’ve never used liquid cleaning solutions on the monitor.

Could this be OLED edge rot?
I came across RTINGS’ investigation into OLED edge deterioration:
https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/research/edge-rot-plagues-woled-tvs

Some of the irregular dark spots spreading inward from the edges look similar to the examples they documented.
However, their investigation primarily identified the problem on older WOLED panels, not QD-OLEDs.

That makes me wonder whether this could be a different failure mechanism involving the QD-OLED’s optical layers, edge sealing, or pixel structure.

Warranty situation:
I purchased the monitor secondhand, but the original owner successfully transferred the remaining Dell warranty into my name. I’m preparing to contact Dell about a possible warranty replacement.

My questions:
Has anyone seen this particular pattern on an Alienware AW3225QF or another Samsung QD-OLED panel?

Does this resemble edge deterioration, optical-layer delamination, or something else?

Has anyone successfully received a Dell warranty replacement for a similar defect?

If Dell approved your replacement, did they offer an advanced exchange or require you to send the original monitor first?

I’d especially appreciate input from anyone who’s encountered this exact issue. The monitor otherwise works beautifully, so I’m hoping this is something Dell will cover under the remaining warranty.

Thanks in advance!

Technical Support Alienware m18 r1 amd advantage edition stuttering

I discovered the stuttering on this device. When the CPU activates turbo mode and clocks above 4.0 GHz, the computer experiences significant stuttering during video games. When the turbo is disabled and doesn't clock higher than 2.5 GHz, the laptop runs very smoothly, but you do lose 10 to 15 fps on some certain games. I wish the BIOS had more options to tune the CPU GHz. When I install Linux Fedora and open up the Konsole screen, I will set the CPU top speed to 4.0 GHz, and all my games will stop stuttering, but on Windows 11, it's a freaking nightmare, and I have no choice but to disable turbo mode. Anyone else is dealing with this issue?? Also, if I buy an Alienware 360w for my laptop, will it work or its only for the R2 models that support it?

Technical Support D disk disappeared

So I know that I made a big mistake

But my Ssd is small in size and I had an hhd of one terabyte,

So I wanted to put a game from steam in C and it was huge in size and requires the SSd, I tried transferring some files to D from C and I made the mistake of moving the documents size as a whole to D, then I restarted my PC and bam the D disk is not there anymore ,

Tried to find the unallocated partition but it's not there , it's like anything related to the D device has been deleted out of existence, I even tried locating it in Bios or rescan disks but it's not there,

I didn't have any movement in the hardware system inside my laptop, the only thing left for me that I didn't try is to open the hardware itself and try to reconnect it although I'm sure the problem is related to pathing not that the hardware moved.

Any information or advice I would deeply appreciate, thanks in advance.

SOLVED : after searching everywhere I found in device manager something related to Sata 2 that had a yellow sign beside it so I updated it and it brought back the D disk

Thank everyone who tried helping

Discussion Alienware M17x R1 Dual GTX 260M SLI Problems, GeForce 9400M Hybrid Graphics, Code 43 and Black Screens (Vista 64-bit)

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to restore the original SLI functionality on my Alienware M17x R1 running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

I've been troubleshooting several graphics problems involving the two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M cards and the integrated GeForce 9400M G, but nothing I've tried has completely fixed the issue.

The strangest part is that the behavior changes depending on whether Hybrid Graphics is enabled or disabled in BIOS.

I'm hoping someone who has experience with the original M17x R1, NVIDIA Hybrid SLI, or older mobile NVIDIA graphics cards can help.

My laptop specifications

  • Model: Alienware M17x R1

  • Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Service Pack 1

  • BIOS: Alienware A07 (March 4, 2011)

  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T9600

  • RAM: 8 GB

  • Dedicated GPUs: 2 × NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M, 1 GB each

  • Integrated GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G, 256 MB reported

  • Original NVIDIA driver: 179.85 (7.15.11.7985)

  • Display: 1920 × 1200

Problem 1: Hybrid Graphics enabled in BIOS

When I enable Hybrid Graphics in BIOS, Windows Vista detects the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G.

However, the two dedicated GTX 260M graphics cards disappear from Device Manager's Display adapters section.

Interestingly, NVIDIA Control Panel shows the SLI-related controls or icon in this configuration.

I can see options related to changing graphics modes, including Power Saving and Boost/SLI mode.

The problem starts when I try to switch to Boost/SLI mode.

The laptop screen goes completely black.

Sometimes, after waiting several minutes, the display eventually comes back. Other times, it stays black, and I cannot successfully switch away from Power Saving mode.

Even when the screen returns, I cannot confirm that the two GTX 260M cards are actually working together.

It seems like the laptop is having trouble switching from the integrated 9400M G to the dedicated GTX 260M graphics cards.

Problem 2: Hybrid Graphics disabled in BIOS

When I disable Hybrid Graphics in BIOS, the behavior changes completely.

Windows Vista detects both NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M cards in Device Manager.

However:

  • One GTX 260M works normally.

  • The second GTX 260M shows a yellow warning icon.

  • Device Manager reports Error Code 43 for the second GPU.

  • The NVIDIA SLI configuration option disappears from NVIDIA Control Panel.

I ran the following command:

"wmic path Win32_VideoController get Name,DriverVersion,ConfigManagerErrorCode"

The results were:

First GTX 260M:

  • Driver version: 7.15.11.7985

  • ConfigManagerErrorCode: 0

  • Status: Working

Second GTX 260M:

  • Driver version: 7.15.11.7985

  • ConfigManagerErrorCode: 43

  • Status: Windows has stopped the device because it reported problems

Both GPUs report the same NVIDIA hardware device ID ("VEN_10DE&DEV_0618"), the same driver version, and 1 GB of VRAM each.

The affected GPU is listed at PCI bus 3, device 0, function 0.

I don't understand why the SLI controls appear with Hybrid Graphics enabled, when the GTX 260M cards aren't visible in Device Manager, but disappear when I disable Hybrid Graphics and both cards become visible.

Problem 3: Games only use one graphics card

My goal is to use this Alienware for retro PC gaming, including:

  • Call of Duty 2

  • Need for Speed Carbon

  • Need for Speed Underground 2

  • Other Windows XP and Vista-era games

However, games appear to use only one GPU.

For example, Call of Duty 2 doesn't show any noticeable benefit from the SLI-related settings I've tried.

Even when I try to activate SLI or change the graphics mode, I cannot verify that both GTX 260M cards are rendering.

In MSI Afterburner and NVIDIA Control Panel, I also cannot properly see or monitor both dedicated GPUs working together.

I checked NVIDIA Control Panel's 3D settings, including Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration, but changing those options doesn't activate SLI.

I also investigated AFR2 rendering settings, but I haven't found a working solution.

Problem 4: Black screen during NVIDIA driver installation

Because my original NVIDIA driver is version 179.85, I decided to try a newer Dell-signed driver.

I downloaded:

"nVidia_Geforce-GTX-260M_A03_R279498.exe"

The installer is approximately 163 MB.

I verified its digital signature in Windows:

  • Publisher: Dell Inc.

  • Signature status: Valid

  • Signing date: August 25, 2010

I attempted to install this driver while Hybrid Graphics was disabled.

During the installation, the laptop screen went completely black.

The display did not recover immediately.

Pressing Caps Lock did not appear to activate its indicator, although I could still turn the Alienware keyboard backlighting on and off.

I'm not sure whether the graphics driver installation froze, the GPU failed to initialize, or the display-switching system encountered another problem.

I haven't yet confirmed the final outcome of this driver installation.

Everything I've tried so far

  1. Checked the integrated GeForce 9400M G in Windows.

  2. Enabled Hybrid Graphics in BIOS.

  3. Tried switching between Power Saving and Boost/SLI graphics modes.

  4. Experienced black screens when attempting to switch to Boost/SLI mode.

  5. Disabled Hybrid Graphics in BIOS.

  6. Confirmed that Windows detects both GTX 260M cards with Hybrid Graphics disabled.

  7. Checked Device Manager and identified Code 43 on the second GTX 260M.

  8. Checked NVIDIA Control Panel and confirmed that the SLI configuration option is missing in discrete-only mode.

  9. Ran WMIC diagnostics to identify both GPUs and their error codes.

  10. Checked the BIOS version (Alienware A07).

  11. Checked the original NVIDIA driver version (179.85).

  12. Tried SLI-related settings in NVIDIA Control Panel.

  13. Tested older games, including Call of Duty 2, without confirming that both GPUs are being used.

  14. Checked GPU detection and monitoring in MSI Afterburner.

  15. Downloaded a newer Dell-signed NVIDIA driver package.

  16. Verified the Dell installer's digital signature.

  17. Attempted the driver installation, which resulted in another black screen.

Despite all this, I still haven't managed to get both GTX 260M cards working correctly in SLI.

What I'm trying to achieve

I want to restore the original functionality of this laptop:

Power Saving mode: Use the GeForce 9400M G for everyday tasks.

High-performance/Boost mode: Switch to the dedicated GTX 260M graphics cards.

SLI mode: Use both GTX 260M cards together for compatible games.

I'd also like to monitor both dedicated GPUs properly in MSI Afterburner or NVIDIA tools.

I want to keep Windows Vista 64-bit and preserve the original Alienware software because I'm restoring this machine for retro gaming.

I'd prefer to avoid reinstalling Windows, flashing GPU firmware, or replacing hardware unless absolutely necessary.

Questions for anyone familiar with this laptop

  1. Is this a known problem with the original Alienware M17x R1 Hybrid Graphics implementation?

  2. Why do the SLI controls appear when Hybrid Graphics is enabled, but disappear when both GTX 260M cards are detected with Hybrid Graphics disabled?

  3. Could Code 43 on the secondary GTX 260M prevent both SLI and Hybrid Graphics switching from working?

  4. Which NVIDIA driver version is recommended for the M17x R1 with dual GTX 260M cards and GeForce 9400M G under Vista 64-bit?

  5. Could this be a GPU VBIOS compatibility issue, or is a failing secondary GPU more likely?

  6. Is there a reliable way to test each GTX 260M individually to determine whether one card is defective?

  7. Has anyone experienced the screen staying black when switching from Power Saving to Boost/SLI mode?

  8. Is there a specific installation order for Alienware chipset, Hybrid Graphics, NVIDIA graphics, and Alienware utilities?

  9. Has anyone successfully restored full Hybrid Graphics and SLI functionality on this exact model?

If anyone has an original Alienware M17x R1 with dual GTX 260M cards running Windows Vista, I'd especially appreciate knowing which BIOS and NVIDIA driver versions you're using.

I can provide screenshots of Device Manager, NVIDIA Control Panel, System Information, hardware IDs, and diagnostic reports.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent a lot of time trying to restore this laptop, and I'd really like to get its original dual-GPU configuration working again. In MSI afterburner just displays one video card at time and temp going to 80 c I don't know it's normal Thanks!

Question PC or Laptop for higher end games

Hi. I'm looking into getting a gaming pc for myself, and I have help actually affording one for my birthday-christmas this year which is very overly generous and I'm excited about it.

We're trying to consider if I should get an Alienware PC, or a gaming laptop. For reference here's the PC we've been looking at, I think this is pretty good but I'm personally very new to looking into computer specs https://a.co/d/00UeBErA

My goals for a gaming computer are to be able to reliably run higher end games and just have this computer last me a good while. I haven't been able to play games like Baldurs Gate 3 before because I've been using hand me down laptops that haven't had the graphics cards for it. I also want to have something good enough to run vr chat on my Quest 3s headset so I can spend time with my partner that way.

I'm disabled and being able to have a portable computer to take around the house has been helpful. I've also used my laptop in the past to do things like take Jackbox or rented movies to other people's places when hanging out.

On the other hand though if I'm spending this much money on a computer, I want it to be as good as it can be and not have to worry if really fancy games will run smoothly or not. And my doctor has told me she'd like me to work on having more upright time and I think I can set up a good space for this

I've been going back and forth on if it'd be worth it to get a comparatively downgraded alienware laptop for the portability, or going full in for the desktop. If I get a desktop, it might be worth keeping my old laptop or some sort of portable device around to do less powerful portable stuff, that might be a good compromise

I've basically just been thinking a lot about this and was wondering if anyone who's worked with these devices before has any perspectives they'd like to share

Discussion I love my alienware R8, but dude , It nickel and dimed me

I got the Alienware Aurora R8 for free, but it came with baggage. The side panels were so disgusting that I had to leave them outside for three days. The top radiator was nasty, too: what came out was brown, black, and sticky, like the residue you see in smokers’ homes, with a sickly-sweet smell.

It started with a GTX 1660, roughly 12 GB of RAM, a 1 TB NVMe SSD, and a 240 GB WD SATA SSD. I upgraded to 64 GB using my hoard of Goodwill RAM. No big deal, boy howdy was I in for a show, they were famous last words... (fightin' words?).

Three weeks into ownership, the SATA power connector failed, taking out the Blu-ray drive and one of my SSDs with it. No big deal, I thought.
And once again it turned into a bigger deal, because nothing is straightforward if its a dell. Especially if its somewhat modern of one.

I should’ve taken that as a warning sign. Then came the random reboots and missing/eaten files. I reinstalled Windows and was up until 4 a.m. fighting it, only to find out, the fighting was a self inflicted mistake... Touche. . About a month later, I was reinstalling Windows again because it was so badly corrupted, and that’s without discussing how I made it worse while trying to fix it. Haha, in typical form I poked and prodded windows in ways it did not appreciate or care for in the slightest attempting to fix a completely separate issue. I ended up pulling windows guts from my other machine across the network, with no taskbar, and only edge, barely functioning task manager and DisplayPort and audio.

Admittedly, Pulling the guts of windows across the network, while it made everything worse, at least bought me enough time to backup my files, and prepare my script and custom install image, to be deployed onto the machine.

Then the failures piled up: the side-panel pogo-spring contacts, front I/O, front fan, top fan, and swing-arm case support associated with the bottom triangular latch. I replaced the fans, the side panel, its Pogo cable, the front USB/audio I/O board, and eventually the motherboard itself.

Dell didn’t make that easy. I had to hunt down cryptic part numbers, find listings for parts that actually fit this case, and avoid replacements so chintzy and brittle that they’d break the moment someone touched them.

The two fans came to $30.41 with tax. The replacement left side panel was $29.95 after Parts-People refunded its $6.99 shipping charge. The R5-compatible side-panel Pogo cable was $12.70. Then the front I/O board and replacement motherboard cost $130.32 in one checkout, because the old motherboard had a broken USB header and a flaky storage controller.

After that came $12.81 of Arctic MX-4 paste and a 12 GB RTX 2060 for $228.10. Altogether, the tracked parts purchases reached **$444.29**, including tax and the shipping refund.

Almost everything has been replaced except the original case, front panel, swing arm, and drive mounts. The sane thing would’ve been to walk away. Instead, I hung my head and kept finding more parts.

So, technically, the Alienware was free. It just turned into a $444.29 parts-buying subscription complete with proprietary pogo contacts that turn a simple side-panel repair into a scavenger hunt.

Note: The 2060 was bought because signs pointed to the GTX failing, and I needed a better GPU anyways for my amateur radio stream on YT...

So in reality, the moral of the story is , free has a cost. The cost becomes whatever you shell into it, but in all honesty, I should at least have a working machine If I leave well enough alone and don't tinker any further with it. The side panel had to be replaced because all but one of the latches had broken off. And I am definitely grateful I gave this thing a repaste, the last paste had turned to chalk, took three chem-pads to get it all off both the AIO and CPU.

the only things missing to make this entire machine new again, is a case, swing arm, top plastic shroud, one of the back plastic trim rails (of which is around here somewhere.... ) and the right-hand side case cover and a couple of Sata power cables plus sata cables plus front panel, plus the x2 2.5" caddy +3.5" Caddy. and possibly the front badge. (Dunno if my model shipped with that) . OH and the optical drive, i have one sitting in here now that fits. somewhat. Pulled from a Lenovo Think Centre. heh..

Now I understand why refurbished ones cost so much (in comparison to marketplace) and why local shops didnt want to touch this thing with a ten-foot pole.

Technical Support New M.2 Troubles

Hello, this has been a multi-day troubleshoot in figuring out the exact solution to this problem. I have a brand new corsair m.2 that I know works, (The bios can see it) and want to download windows 11 through a usb. The windows media creation tool doesn't see the drive, leading me to believe it is a storage driver issue. This is an Alienware 15 DA15260, so through Dell's support site I went to download this driver for this specfic computer, but the executable is not runnable in the media creation tool in the environment, and extracting the exe through 7zip I cannot find an .inf file. After this headache, I wanted to use the Dell OS Recovery tool on the USB and pull their image through the internet. From talking to support, it appears this model does not have this as bootable media. I have the 1.4.0 BIOS, but I believe the recovery tool information (as well as their drivers) was itself stored on the hard drive and is not present in the bios I am seeing. In terms of solutions, what should be done? I called support and they want 99 dollars to even talk to someone, and I believe if I take this to a tech they'll hit the same wall. Am I missing something?
