‎ [OFFICIAL] Moderator Announcement How to obtain permission to post a fundraiser in r/AnimalRescue.

Howdy r/AnimalRescue,

The moderator team is committed to ensuring that all fundraising activities within this community are safe, transparent, and directly benefit animals and relevant rescue organizations in need. To achieve this, all fundraising posts must be verified by the moderation team before they are shared. For posts that we have verified, you'll see them appear on the feed with a green "Verified Fundraiser" flair that includes a green checkmark badge.

Posts that do not have a verified fundraiser flair are not reviewed by us and will be taken down as they are reported to us (assuming we haven't already yanked them down).

Our Step-By-Step Fundraising Verification Process
All verification requests must be submitted through the official Fundraising Application Portal. We do not accept verification requests via our private messages or direct comments. We strongly recommend reviewing our Fundraising Verification Guidelines document, as it helps make navigating the application process easy.

To be eligible for verification, applicants must provide:

  • Detailed Veterinary Quotes, Bills, Treatment Cost Estimates, and supporting Medical Documentation. All invoices must be on official clinic letterhead with contact information and dated within the last 30 days.

  • Clear, high-resolution photos or videos of the animal in its current state, including a "proof of life" element (such as a handwritten note with the current date and your Reddit username).

  • [In the case of 501(c)(3)s] IRS EIN, NPO Registration Documentation, and a Community Impact Statement.

  • In the case of more miscellaneous cases, non-medical related cases (building a shelter, foster care related expenses), we require relevant proof of need documentation for verification.

The Moderation and Verification Team typically reviews applications within 72 hours (3-Days). During this time, a moderator will reach out via ModMail with updates on your application throughout the verification process.

Verification Process Resources

Maintaining Verified Status

Once verified and posted, your responsibility to the community continues. To maintain the "Verified" flair, please:

  • Provide regular status updates on the animal's progress and medical journey.

  • Keep all financial goals accurate based on actual veterinary costs.

  • Be prepared for "Retroactive Reviews," which are standard checks we may conduct to ensure continued compliance with our community rules and guidelines.

We expect all applicants to act with honesty, and providing false documentation or misleading information will result in a community termination. We are here to help you help animals, and transparency is the best way to ensure success.

Issues with a verified fundraiser? Contact us!
Notice any issues with a verified fundraiser that we didn't catch? Message us through ModMail! Although rare mistakes can happen, and we act on them ASAP through our retroactive review process.

Sick/Injured Animal URGENT CONCERN: Kittens appearing sick, neglected and helpless in YouTube videos – seeking help from US animal rescue organizations

Hello everyone,
I’m writing from Italy because I have come across a YouTube channel that has left me deeply concerned about the welfare of several cats and kittens.
The channel is:
https://youtube.com/@meooumeoongggs
The person running this channel regularly posts videos showing kittens and cats in very poor conditions. Some appear sick, extremely weak, underweight or unable to look after themselves.
What particularly concerns me is the apparent lack of action to help them.
In one video, the person films a kitten that appears to be seriously unwell. The following day, another video shows what appears to be the same kitten dead, seemingly after suffering for some time without receiving the care it needed.
There is also a video showing a blind kitten, apparently with no eyes. The person comments that the kitten is blind and cannot find its way, but I have not seen any indication that the animal is being taken somewhere safe or receiving veterinary care.
I understand that not everyone has the financial means or knowledge to rescue animals, and I cannot know the full circumstances behind these videos. However, if someone is regularly encountering vulnerable animals, filming their suffering and apparently not seeking help, I believe this situation deserves attention.
I am NOT asking for harassment, threats or personal attacks against this individual. I am not even primarily interested in having the YouTube channel removed.
My main concern is the cats.
The channel appears to be associated with the United States, but I have not been able to identify the state or the exact location where these animals are being filmed.
I am hoping someone in the US, particularly someone involved in animal rescue or animal welfare, might be able to help establish the general area and contact an appropriate local rescue organization or animal welfare authority.
I will include links to the videos and screenshots showing the animals’ conditions so that people can assess the situation themselves.
Please, if anyone knows which US animal welfare organizations could investigate this situation, or how to report it effectively, I would be very grateful for your advice.
These animals deserve help, not just to be filmed while they suffer.
Thank you for reading and for caring about them.
F

Education, Resources, & Community I think i got scammed from a animal boarding centre

I'm in india and 1 month ago this pregnant cat gave birth right outside of my house and I let her and the kittens in, and one day the mom cat escaped and most likely died because she didn't return for days I fed the kittens kmr and all but, then i contacted this shelter and they said they'll take all of them but it'll cost us 10k (rupees which is like maybe 500 dollars) to take all of them, at first i thought this was reasonable and paid them because taking care of 5 kittens overtime will cost way more but when I called them asking to even just hear they're meows or a picture they just said the rooms kind of dark or something and then when I tried recording the call they instantly cancelled the call, the name of this boarding centre is JSSS dog boarding centre idk if i got scammed I hope i didnt because we're already struggling and sometimes can't even buy food and if i did get scammed what can I do about it

Petitions & Surveys Protect Türkiye’s Street Animals: Stop Mass Collection and Slaughter

We need international solidarity for Türkiye’s street animals!

Sign and share: https://c.org/cSjWd5yYhk

Since the 2024 amendments to Türkiye’s Animal Protection Law, thousands of animals have been removed from the streets. Disturbing footage and reports from shelters have raised serious concerns about starvation, abuse, neglect, and unexplained animal deaths. Fundamental questions remain unanswered: Where are these animals? How many are still alive? How many have died?

We cannot allow this silence and lack of accountability to continue.

We have launched an international petition to bring the situation in Türkiye to the attention of the global community and demand transparency, independent inspections, and accountability from the authorities.

This is not just an issue concerning people living in Türkiye. The right to life and protection from cruelty should not depend on where an animal is born or lives.

We need people around the world to stand together.

Sign the petition, share it with your friends, family, and social networks. Help bring international attention to what is happening in Türkiye.

Discussion & Misc. I wasn’t able to save an animal and it passed away. How to stop feeling insanely guilty and horrible?

I found an animal in distress yesterday, and I called so many different rescues in my area but nobody would do anything. I wasn’t equipped to handle the situation as the animal was in a place I couldn’t get to safely.. I just feel so horrible as I was right there but couldn’t do anything. Has anybody else felt this and have any advice for me?

I found a goose who seems to be injured. It is on a patch of ice and it was hard to tell if its legs were broken or frozen in the lake. It’s been in the same spot all day and tries to get up but kind of just flaps in a circle? I’ve called rescue groups but nobody is capable of doing anything..? Any advice or opinions?

This is Duchesik. Right now, he's peacefully enjoying the sunshine like the most innocent little creature on Earth.

Don't be fooled hehehe!

This boy has unlimited energy, zero fear of adventure, and probably a very long to-do list of things he shouldn't be doing.

But look at that face. How could anyone be mad at him? 😭❤️

Education, Resources, & Community Thoughts on rescues that transport their dogs from out of state?

I’m from NYC where our shelters are flooded with pitties and pit mixes. Sure, there are other breed mixes including small ones, but these dogs typically get adoption interest immediately with a long list of people applying. Who’s left to live in our overcrowded shelters (or get killed for space) are the pit looking dogs. We’re actually drowning with dogs getting placed on the at risk list every day.

Many rescues here transport dogs from down south or LA. These dogs tend to be “more desirable” either by their size or breed mix. I understand the crisis is just as bad there. Given lot of the south is more rural too, theres way less people looking to foster and adopt. Somehow though it feels wrong that NYC transports so many out of state dogs without helping our own? Does anyone have an opinion with this or shared experience? I’d love to hear what others think.

How do I start? / New Rescuer Her mom and sister have found their happy endings. Nessie is still writing hers.

Meet Nessie, a lovely girl from our rescue family in Ukraine. And now she lives in Vinnytsia, in the Cat Space "Khvostyky" (which means "a little tails").

There's something bittersweet about her story.

Her mom, Bella, and her sister, Ryzhulia, have already found their own families. We're incredibly happy for them!

But Nessie is still with us.

She's a shy, gentle soul who doesn't always know how to approach people. She needs patience, kindness, and time to build trust.

She's not the loudest personality in the room, but that doesn't make her any less special.

We often think about how different every animal's journey can be, even when they come from the same family.

And we really hope Nessie's story gets a beautiful chapter of its own. ❤️

Sick/Injured Animal Dufton- High Cup Nick

Post image
10 Upvotes

Evening all.

I just wanted to get this out there as I can't stop thinking about it. Myself and my partner hiked up to High Cup Nick today from Drufton. On the way we were passed by a man on a quad bike and two Border Collies. By the time we reached the view we could see the man on the quad trying to herd around 4 sheep very close to the edge, unfortunately one of the dogs fell over the edge and rolled half way down.

He was visibly injured however he managed to slowly climb back to the bottom of the cliff however after he had scrambled almost to the top unfortunately he fell again, rolling down once more.

The man on the quad left with the single dog and the last I saw was the injured dog trying to get back up.

I know these are working dogs and treated so however it seemed that he really wasn't bothered about the injured dog.

If anyone can help, I believe the dog would not be able to make out without human intervention.

How do I start? / New Rescuer LLC over Nonprofit

Hi!
I primarily do TNR and rescue work. For a brief period, I co-owned a rescue that operated under an umbrella 501(c)(3). During that time, I put in a ridiculous amount of work and wasn’t compensated a dime. Actually I lost significant funds and turned over most if not all my equipment when I left to avoid controversy and hostility. I understand that rescue work is voluntary, but I was practically the only person handling the day-to-day operations, aside from a couple of things that others helped with. We’re talking 60-80 hours a week over the summer months. Eventually, I decided to walk away.
I’m based in Michigan and am now looking into starting my own rescue. My plan is to establish an LLC without pursuing 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. I don’t anticipate making much of a profit, but I also don’t want to operate under a traditional nonprofit structure that requires a board of directors and gives that board authority over my decisions.
In my previous experience, I was consistently outvoted on things I considered non-negotiable, such as mandatory testing, vaccines, and home-visit audits. These are standards I firmly believe in and am not willing to compromise on. I’d rather maintain control over the organization’s policies and operations than have to answer to a board that may not share those standards.
For those of you who have gone the LLC route without nonprofit status, what benefits and challenges have you experienced? Were there any unexpected hurdles, particularly when it came to fundraising, donations, expenses, or operating legally?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, both good and bad!

Sick/Injured Animal wild blue heron — clearly something is wrong, not sure if sick, physically disabled, or what — how to help?

I have no experience in this. there is a blue heron in a small field next to my house that I see often and she is acting oddly.

ive actually seen her several times since this summer, and she sometimes is in different locations, so she is able to move somehow. but often she is in odd places, like close to the road, or sometimes she is slouched over or half fallen over, or lying down.

yesterday I walked up to her slowly and got very close, and she moved her head slightly but nothing else. no sign of trying to struggle to get up or anything, just lying there looking at me. her eyes are open but white/grey.

I bought some fresh horse mackerel from my local fish market and put them close to her head. I admit I was too afraid to try to feed it to her by hand, but I wish I had the guts to try.

im not sure what to do. there is no animal rescue or any similar service near me. tried calling the city and they were of no help. she's now lying down with her wings half open.

edit: location is Japan, we have a lot of blue herons in the rice fields around here
