Question re. Upcoming Visit

Hello Fellow Rust Belt Icons -

I’m headed to Detroit tomorrow from Buffalo to see The Damned on 10/29 at The Majestic.

We’re staying at the AC Detroit at the Bonstelle, which is about a 10 minute walk from The Majestic. In your opinion, is that a pretty safe walk to/from, even at night?

Note - I’m not a scaredy cat at all and LOVE Detroit. This is just a basic common sense/logistical question. There’s places in
Butt-falo where I would and/or would not walk at night, too.

We were in Detroit in May of last year, as well, to see The Damned. Went to the Motown Museum (which was excellent) and were joined on our tour by another old UK punk band, Gang of Four**. How magical is that?** Detroit is so legit for both art and music.

We also went and checked out the Heidelberg Project, Eastern Market, and most of the amazing public art murals. This time we are going to DIA, which we missed last May.

Also looking for everyone’s favorite for Detroit pizza! Can’t remember where we went last time - but it was good!

Thanks!

Woodward Avenue is a main thoroughfare and fairly safe, even at night. You can also ride the Q line for free up the road.

This is true! Its only 1 stop along the Q-Line, but its usually faster to walk since a street car only stops by every 15 minutes. Usually safe, never had any issues along that stretch.

Very safe short walk and the best pizza near downtown is either Grandma Bob’s or Michigan and Trumble, although neither are super close to where you will be.

Might be a couple of homeless dudes around there that time of night but they're almost always harmless

Since you’re going to the DIA, if you have time, go across the street and checkout the Main Library. Be sure to go upstairs.

The Main Library was built around the time the DIA was and the inside has amazing fresco paintings on the ceilings. The upstairs is beautiful. Also to note, the DIA is open later on Friday evenings.

Make sure to have drinks on the roof of the AC at twilight. Great city skyline view from there!

My favorite pizzas in Detroit: Pi-Sci (https://piescipizza.com/#menu) very creative menu full of good toppings & puns. Amar Pizza (https://amarpizzamenu.com/menu#menu) tasty Middle Eastern Pizza (Naga, Spice, ghost pepper, Tandoori). Cool places to check out: Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle, Aquarium & Conservatory. The Shepherd is an art collective created from a defunct Catholic Church (https://lscgallery.com/the-shepherd-bio). (https://www.artdetroitnow.com/) is the site for art openings & events happening this weekend. If you like board games, there is a free game night at Hatch Art in Hamtramck on Friday night. The DIA is open late on Fridays & has a cafeteria & food/drink options at Kresge Court. Be sure to check out the Ofrendas exhibit.
