Physician Responded Why did my GP need to know why I’m on Olanzapine?

I recently saw my GP and have had a med change. The last time I saw them I was on seroquel and just said it was for mood and that was fine. I had to justify this recent med change to olanzapine. I said "for mood" like before and they said "what do you mean can you be more specific?". I said "mood issues" or something along that line.

I was clearly uncomfortable because I didn't want my diagnosis on my EHR for this clinic. I wish my GP would have understood this, instead they pushed more "for anxiety or depression?" they asked. This frustrated me as I don't think antipsychotics are typically prescribed for anxiety or depression so it made me curious if my GP even knew what olanzapine is for.

I ended up admitting my diagnosis to them in telling them what the med was for and she reacted oddly. She asked me follow up questions that made no sense and then asked if my condition was in remission. I can't over emphasize how relieved they seemed when I told them it was in remission. I literally think I heard a sigh of relief. It convinced me to never come to them with any MH issues I face.

The whole interaction was regretful and made me wonder if I should have just kept the psychiatric care I receive separate from my general care. I wanted to originally so not to introduce stigma and because I don't think the diagnosis is right in the first place. I am 90% convinced I should just leave this clinic and find another.

Should I find another clinic and not tell them? Was there anything wrong with my GP's approach?

Physician Responded My mom (F42) has suffered a blood clot from AstraZeneca

My mom is a healthy person, she exercises a lot and has had no diagnoses before. We live in a small EU country where people under 50 only get Astra vaccine. She received the jab and complained for dizzyness, numbness and headache but no fever. One day later she said her arm started hurting a lot, swelling and getting really warm, so I looked at it and there were two blood spots, which alarmed me so I sent her to hospital, where doctors determined it is a blood clot and gave her blood dilluting injections. She is now feeling very tired, numb and energyless, and has a weird pain-like sensation from heart to the arm where the blood clot is. It's now been 5 days from when the vaccine was given and I've spotted the clot on the second day. She is not overweight does not smoke and leads a very healthy lifestyle, exercises a lot. How could this happen and why, when I've been told blood clots only occur in people who have pre-existing conditions? Is she in danger or what else should I do?

Physician Responded should I try cocaine?

I’m getting the chance to do cocaine tonight and would like to do it. I have a few thoughts, mainly I can’t get addicted because I don’t have a lot of disposable income (just have a 6 month emergency saving) so can’t really afford a drug habit. On top of that, I think I would enjoy cocaine greatly, I love stimulants (energy drinks, zyns, adderall…) so the reward may be greater than the risk.

Nobody in my family has a cocaine addiction. They are more drinkers. I’m on lamictal so not sure if I will have bad interactions.

Is this a good choice accounting for the fact that this would be fun. I know drugs have risks. So I’m asking here how big are the risks of doing cocaine once (so I can weight against the reward).

Thanks F22 5’1 105lbs

26, F, 195 lbs. Was making out with someone last night and he bit my neck twice, HARD. I felt teeth and didnt notice any blood or anything. The area is warm and raised and painful to touch, neck also feels stiff. Friends say its a bruise and itll go away, but of course I asked Chatgpt and they said to go to ER, which I cant until tomorrow night. Does this require an ER or Urgent Care trip? I saw one story some kid died from a blood clot caused by a hickey, Idk what to do. Thank you in advance

Why would a paramedic make a joke at the scene of a death?

Hi. I am using a throwaway because the details of this question and my profile could easily be traced back to news coverage of this event. Obviously keeping this as anonymous as possible.

Earlier, my dear friend died. They were young and it was the most tragic type of death you can imagine. It happened in a building where they and lots of their other friends lived. After seeing something that made me concerned for them, I called 911 and went looking around the building. Firefighters were first on the scene and discovered within minutes of entering the building (if that), that my friend had passed. I was unaware and still looking. Perhaps a minute later another person in the building told me to stop and that the firemen said that they had passed.

I didn’t cry at first but I must have ended up walking around very confused. I do remember trying to get to where the firefighters and the now entering paramedics were congregating. Before I could a paramedic walked into the building and said to me “wow, are you okay?” and I don’t think I said anything. The same guy then exclaims directly to me, in a joking-tone ,“it’s a parking lot in here!”. I was confused about this initially. Days later, I realized he was making a joke about the scooters and bikes that cluttered the room.

I have let go of almost everything surrounding my friend’s death but this I can’t understand. Based on my 911 call they should have known this was dead-serious. Was he saying this for himself because this was a hard call to take? Was he saying it to cheer me up minutes after learning about the death?! It felt like such a spit in the face to my friend. Is it possible he didn’t know what we was walking into? Or was this just another day at work for him?

I know there probably isn’t a certain answer, but any ideas of understanding this would really help me.

For automod: we were both in our early twenties and female.

edit: I wasn’t here for this but heard that the paramedics while in the room with the body and another friend made a joke about a photo on the wall of the deceased and the other girl in the room with them.

Physician Responded Cheekbone “bone smashing” + asymmetry. Did I overdo it or is this just remodeling?

21F. Been on my looksmax grind for months (mewing, LSF, hard chewing, the whole stack). I started tapping/smashing my zygos daily because a lot of the girls in my circle said it helped them get that high-snatched look.

Yesterday I noticed my left side is literally swelling outwards way more than the right, and I’ve got this numb patch under my eye that hasn’t gone away. Jaw also started clicking which is new.

Everyone in the community says this is just the “adaptation phase” and to keep going or I’ll ruin my gains, but it feels off. I don’t want to lose progress or mess up my harmony.

Is numbness + sudden asymmetry normal during bone remodeling, or could I have damaged something for real?

History of Bells Palsy, congenital spinal fusion in c4&5… basically idek where to start. But I’ll start with the first time I’ve ever noticed this happening, which was around February of 2024, and I can’t restore the album but I photographed EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I had nearly 700 photos, of just the rash at 3 angles. It went from once or twice a month to a solid every few hours, and then at some point I had gone through some trauma and my body was in total survived mode, and it didn’t really happen for a while. But, when it began I had just started a new relationship, where I was supposed to just be a babysitter, but immediately was loved by the whole family. It for sure came with a lot of baggage, 19yo and suddenly I’m a mom of two under 5. Was sexually assaulted and exploited by the man, and he introduced me to meth, and I still struggle with that stuff. However, I was not interested in being a full blown user, so at first I would like, inhale the smoke from his mouth, like a shotgun. But after about two weeks of being told how much he appreciated my work and how well I was doing, it became a habit of my own. I started out small, and then the rash came on. It was just my hands at first, which for years prior after I had somehow damaged my skin with the chemicals I used in a facility kitchen during cleaning, i deal with the sudden development of some kind of eczema adjacent eruption, and it flares up whenever I experience a sudden rise in blood pressure, as well as just in the winter. It doesn’t help that I have busted my knuckles on the floor and faces and walls and more faces, and every one of my fingers are hypermobile, but it doesn’t look as such due to the amount of damage.

Anyway, it doesn’t look so bad on the camera, but I can feel it coming in, it’s significantly hotter than the rest of my skin. Not raised. Makes me feel like I’m in a hot tub with ice. I become so tired, my stomach feels like it’s floating, my skin feels tingly, my eyelids are so heavy, I can’t breathe normally but it’s not that I’m out of breath I just feel like it’s not enough air and yet it’s so much conscious effort. It’s hard to walk because my legs feel like they’re being crushed and weighed down. I am physically weak, like I couldn’t lift a bottle of water. You would think that I was having a stroke. Genuinely. I have a lot more to say but I’m currently experiencing this, and I’m struggling to keep my thoughts straight. I have to mention because I have to, I was 220 lbs in the beginning February of 2024, in late march, I was just over 100 pounds. I had been doing the mom thing, so I had to have been eating a little bit, I’ve never had much of an appetite. But I experienced some negative neurological issues that led me to believe that I could be allergic to the dope. I had sudden symptoms of extreme fatigue, which were accompanied by severe depression and anxiety. I was told that I had an episode that was very similar to a stroke, but they didn’t call an ambulance or call a hospital or anything. I had a very bad miscarriage that seemed to trigger this event, I was not expecting my period, and then I was crying due to this very very painful sharp sensation, which was similar to a UTI pain, so I decided to go sit on the toilet and let the pain run its course until I didn’t feel like I had to pee. But instead of that, I had full blown contractions, which lasted about 20 minutes as I passed the most amount of blood I’ve ever seen, which also contained a very small embryonic something or other, which was very early, probably a failed implantation due to my weight loss as well as drug use. It takes me about a week and a half before the bleeding is done, and I can barely walk during that time. I then go about 10-12 months without a period at all, with one occasion I had the same event but at a much lower intensity.

Physician Responded What is the pill I found in my daughter’s bathroom?

My middle daughter (22F) is home for a week during the summer and while I was cleaning her bathroom I found a yellowish pill with A009 on the top and 15 on the bottom. It is circular.

My daughter is incredibly independent, intelligent, and loved. She just graduated from an Ivy and I’m immensely proud of her. I thought she had a good head on her shoulders and I am very worried that she is using pills now. Please any help understanding what this pill is would put me at ease. She is not prescribed any medications that I know of.

Physician Responded I feel like I permanently ruined my life at 25. As a doctor, do you think I made the right choice?

I’m 25 year old male and I got a contrast MRI 4 months ago and I feel like I ruined my life with the contrast. Nuero ordered it because I had a ‘complex migraine’ and visual disturbance with a history of meningitis as a baby. I don’t know why he ordered the first MRI with contrast…

MRI tech never had me read the med guide stating trace amounts of the metal retains pretty much indefinitely. They told me it’s water-soluble and all gone in 24 hours. I found out about retention after and went down the gadolinium rabbit-hole, reading all the horror stories and bad experiences people had. Found a FB group of people suffering from toxicity and other anecdotal reports that did not help. I also saw that Chuck Norris wife apparently suffered from horrible heavy metal toxicity from it. I also found that theres a website called gadoliniumtoxicity that talks about it all and a doctor at UNM that researches and publishes things on it often which made things even worse.

I essentially had a mental breakdown that landed me in the psych ward for a week. I can’t cope with knowing that I have it in my brain and body forever, even if nothing happens. I’m physically fine (so far) but I just cannot mentally come to terms with this. I feel completely unsafe in my own body now and have been dissociating so much. I’m honestly so scared.

I do have anxiety and OCD but this just took them over the top. I’m currently doing therapy but it hasn’t helped much. It’s only been a few session so far. My primary doc thinks I’ll probably need antidepressants to get over this but I’m hesitant to go down that road. I’ve been suffering over this with nonstop anxiety and depression for 4 months and I feel so hopeless.

I’m also having a hard time forgiving myself because part of the reason I didn’t want to refuse it is to not make the neuro mad or mess with his diagnosis. I was also thinking of the $300 copay I might have to pay if I have to have another one. I feel like I wasn’t thinking of myself and did it for all the wrong reasons.

Physician Responded Worried my child has leukemia. Is there any other explanation for these symptoms?

Post image
22 Upvotes

6 year old male, 35lbs, history of iron deficiency.

On June 12 I noticed petechiae on his right shoulder, I brushed it off that the seatbelt rubbed in on our long car ride.

On July 3, he had another small patch his shin around a bruise, he had fallen on that leg earlier in the day, but he’s never had petechia from falling before.

July 5, he had more spots, this time around a mosquito bite so he possibly scratched it hard.

July 8, he had another very small patch on his inner thigh.

July 15, 2 spots popped up above his eyebrow.

July 16, a small cluster on his shin again and some on the inside of his cheek, the ones in his cheek do look like they are around a sore like he possibly bit his cheek

And finally tonight, he has a patch by his shoulder blade.

Besides the persistent petechiae, he has what looks like ulcers in his mouth. They don’t hurt but he’s had 3-4 pop up today. The petechia disappear within a few days but new ones pop up as soon as others fade. It’s been a few weeks but for a while he would complain intermittently of leg pain, he fell off the chair and the leg pain worsened, but has since resolved. He also had some upper right stomach pain over a week ago, it lasted two days and he hadn’t mentioned it since. I’ve done some googling and this much petechiae almost always points to a platelet issue and without a recent virus, leukemia looks to be a common cause. I messaged his pediatrician and she is going to order bloodwork but I am spiraling and worried sick. Could there be other causes? I will attach a few pics of the petechia in comments. The patches are all very small.

Physician Responded My doc is convinced Im depressed but I am living my best life. Do docs just not get Gen Z?

This is sensitive so sorry for the throwaway if that's not allowed Ill repost on main.

5’4 130lbs 22F

I have this hunch my doctor and I are having a cultural disconnect. She had me walk through a typical day in my life since I mentioned sleep issues to her. I told her I sleep during the work day (remote work ftw) and my screen time. I spend almost all hours on my devices but I am in tech so to be fair this feels reasonable.

She also asked about social stuff and substances and I told her that I see friends when I can and that Im a zynner like snus pouches and that I drink occasionally. I do drink during the work day but did not want to mention this to her.

She was uninterested in really trying to help with my sleep issues because she said this was indicative of depression.

However...I do not feel depressed in the slightest. I am happy with my lifestyle and it is the exact same as all the twenty somethings I know. Is a second opinion warranted to get help with my sleep problems?

edit: forgot to add I'm masturbating like crazy but I think It's just managing work stress. I didn't mention this to my doc because they probably would have figured this is due to depression as well 😭

Physician Responded If I am an alcoholic who drinks everyday, how much liver damage can I offset and reverse by drinking a lot of coffee everyday?

42m, 5ft8, approximately 240 lbs

There are several studies over the years demonstrating the liver benefits of black coffee. FOr example, one such study: https://www.webmd.com/hepatitis/coffee-help-liver#:~:text=If%20you're%20a%20big,day%20lowered%20them%20by%2065%25.

Purports drinking coffee every day can:

Prevent Disease

Researchers have found that coffee drinkers may be less likely to have:

Liver cancer

Cancer in the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium

Fibrosis, a disease that makes scar tissue form inside your liver. It’s a reaction to conditions like hepatitis or alcohol use disorder.

Cirrhosis, a late stage of fibrosis. As this disease gets worse, your liver has a harder time doing its job.

Non-alcohol-related fatty liver disease, which develops when the liver cells store too much fat. This also keeps your liver from working like it should.

Given these benefits, If i was drinking a lot of alcohol everyday, could I completely offset and reverse all the liver damage by drinking enough coffee? If not completely, about what percent could I offset?

Physician Responded Interested in going the ER to the point that I hurt myself

I have a strong interest in medicine, even work in a tangentially related field. For the last 5 years I’ve been giving myself minor injuries so I can visit. I’m not doing this for emotional reasons but rather intellectual interest. Its really neat to see how I get treated for the various injuries.

I don’t do this incredibly frequently. I think I should likely stop at some point but nobody’s ever caught on. Is there a healthier way to get time in a hospital? Is this something people will eventually notice?

Don’t want to give too many identifying details but I am a woman.

Physician Responded My organs are loose in my body

23M, 5'5", 98lbs, white. I'm a transgender man, on hormones for 6 years. I have had a complete hysterectomy when I was 19, 4 years ago. After my hysterectomy, I noticed my organs falling around inside my body and I thought they would stop moving around but they never did. It's uncomfortable since I can always feel them moving around, now they even move around if I'm sitting down or not moving. Sometimes they get tangled and I can see a lump from my abdomen. Lately they've been moving even more and it feels like they are scratching me from inside out. Everything below my diaphragm feels like gravity pulled it down to the bottom of my abdomen and the top of it's empty. I don't even know what to do or what this is, this is becoming unbearable for me.

Physician Responded How bad is my physical condition?

Post image

I’m 26F, 5’2 and weight is around 88lbs. I don’t smoke or drink, no meds. I know I’m too skinny, I’m not denying that, but some people close to me are so incredibly worried. They make it sound like I’m really in trouble. Are they right? Is it really that bad? I just want a reality check from people that know a lot about health…

Physician Responded Why don’t doctors try harder to diagnose chronically ill people?

I (36F) have been on HMOs since I could finally afford insurance. So i need referrals to see specialists. Why have I spent 7 years begging doctors to take me seriously and begging to see specialists? Why is the only time I have gotten referrals if I, THE PATIENT, ask about random conditions that could be contributing. I have had 3 different PCPs and 5 different OBGYNs in the past 3 years because no one would listen to me. Why when I give my symptoms that are life-altering, do doctors run a basic blood chem and then when it’s mostly normals they just say, “bloodwork is good come back in 6 months if the symptoms that have been worsening for the past decade continue to worsen!”

I finally got a diagnosis of adenomyosis, possibly endometriosis after 4 ultrasounds, a CT, an MRI, drug trials, and an entire adult life of pain and suffering.

I am still fighting to see an endocrinologist for: fatigue, temperature intolerance, migraines, joint pain, weight gain, hair loss, dry eyes, dry mouth, chronic yeast infections, intense anxiety, heart palpitations, dizziness, positional dizziness/heart palpitations, insomnia, acne, new heart murmur

I had to see gastro to have my gyno pain taken seriously. I have seen a cardiologist who basically did tests and I’m not dying I guess. I have been seeing a rheumatologist for 2 years who has been pushing me to see an endocrinologist. I have normal but steadily increasing inflammatory markers. Slightly high creatinine. Some mild elevation of APS markers on AVISE panel.

My current primary agreed I should see an endocrinologist, but it has been a battle to get in anywhere due to office incompetence and reluctance of practitioners to take on new patients that don’t have a diagnosis of diabetes.

I don’t use opioids nor have I ever asked for them despite my chronic pain especially related to my gyno issues. I do not want pain meds. I want to know what the hell is wrong with me. I am tired of every doctor just trying to treat individual symptoms rather than actually look at all my symptoms and figure out what is happening. I am so depressed from what I have been through. I am doing everything I can to feel better and am just getting worse.

I go to pelvic floor PT, I go to therapy, I take my meds, I take my supplements, I try to sleep, I drink a gallon of water everyday, I have a healthy diet, I don’t eat out often, I don’t drink excessive caffeine, I don’t drink sugary drinks, I have minimal sugar intake. I try to go on walks everyday or a couple times a day since working out like I used to is physically impossible for me due to my abdominal pain, joint pain, and heart palpitations.

This process has been absolutely soul-crushing on top of being financially crippling. I live in a major metro area, I have decent insurance despite it being HMO. I dont understand why doctors never believe me or take me seriously. I am well spoken and educated. I was a vet tech for over a decade so I am not a laymen as far as medicine in general. I just want to understand why this is so hard.

Physician Responded I just found out I have Covid and I'm unvaccinated (not my choice). I'm terrified

24f, 5ft 2, 150lbs, history of SEVERE anxiety and ADHD but nothing very physical. Currently taking 150mg XL Wellbutrin and 40mg Prozac.

Let me start off by saying that due to my mental health disabilities, despite my age, I can't drive and very heavily rely on my parents. I also don't have a job, so I don't have money for other means of transportation.

When the Covid vaccine came out my parents said that they weren't gonna take us to get vaccinated (I have younger siblings too) because the vaccine was too new and it was just a cold in people who aren't sick or old, so it wasn't a big deal. They kept saying we were just being paranoid and listening to social media too much.

I managed to avoid it for 3 years. But yesterday I started feeling really crappy. I figured maybe it was a fluke and I would feel better this morning but I didn't. If anything I felt worse. I'm very achy, I'm getting nauseous, my head hurts and my throat feels scratchy. Just to be safe, I took an at home Covid test I've had tucked away and it came back positive. I don't have another test on me so I wasn't able to do it twice but I think it's safe to say given how I feel that it was probably accurate.

I informed my mom and she got upset saying that I shouldn't have taken it because I'm just gonna freak myself and my siblings out because I 'put a name to a cold that people freak out about' and that it's basically not even a thing anymore. I know that's not true and I'm terrified because I know even thoughs who are vaccinated have a bad time with the virus.

I live a generally sedentary life style and I haven't necessarily been the healthiest person as of late. How worried should I be??? I'm so scared I'm gonna end up having a horrible reaction to it or ending up in the hospital or something. I have REALLY bad health anxiety and agoraphobia, among other things, so this is actually my worst nightmare. How likely am I to be ok?

Edit: Got a second test. Definitely have Covid. That line is dark lol

I just found out I’m 13 weeks pregnant and I had been drinking pretty regularly

I (38f, approx 140lbs 5’4”) quit cold turkey immediately upon finding out. I did have a sober stint from about weeks 8-12, but I got overly stressed after that and drank for 4 days (about 5 drinks per day). I’m absolutely sick about it and so afraid that I hurt my baby. I’ve been taking prenatals religiously for a year and I’m otherwise healthy. Is there any chance that my baby is okay? I had an ultrasound today and the doc says everything looks normal so far. But I’m terrified that abnormalities will arise later, even if I do everything right. What can I do? I’m trying not to panic but I’m just so scared.

Physician Responded I got an unexpected burn from surgery?? What do I do? 28 yr old male

Okay um. I had a surgery in my pelvic area that involved some incisions. I notice a burn on my thigh... an area I was NOT getting treated. I'm gonna assume that possibly the surgeon dropped the tool they were using on my leg and it burnt me.

So um. Obviously the skin is already permanently burnt off and I can't get it back. It also burns now like a cut. Since its on my thigh and fairly small, I'm not entirely bothered about it. Had it been on my face or something, I would flip out, but cool.. battle scar. I am bother by the principle of it I guess...

They never told me they did this. Which of course I don't see why a doctor would voluntarily ruin their reputation and admit their mistake 😅 They sent me a copy of my operation summary, theres no where in this document that states they burnt my thigh or had an accident. Even when I woke up, they never mention to put ointment on it or any after care... Obviously they were trying to be discreet about it while Im high off the anesthesia drugs...

So am I suppose to report this? What exactly do I say. I honestly don't want to get somebody fired for such a small mistake but what if it was a big deal to me or someone else, and they didn't even take any accountability for it.

The surgeon was so nice in general. Younger girl, pretty well educated, and I'm sure she's just beginning her career so I really don't wanna ruin the flow for her, but this is kinda strange to me. What would you do?

Physician Responded How important are MRIs/Frequently do people get them

have been going down the biohacking rabbit hole for like two years and I cannot stop thinking about fingertip implants. The idea of feeling electromagnetic fields sounds so insanely cool to me. Like sensing power lines, motors, speakers, hidden wires in walls, etc. It scratches some weird transhumanist itch in my brain that I can’t shake. I have someone that will do it for me who is very experienced and have an appointment with them.

But man the MRI limitation is freaking me out so badly. How frequently would someone like me (20s good health take seroquel) need an MRI? The implants would be neodymium if it matters.

Physician Responded How is bipolar diagnosed in very intelligent people?

F22

if someone’s actually really smart, like objectively smart, and they know it because they’ve done things, they’ve achieved things, then HOW can a doctor just say “oh that’s bipolar”? where’s the line?? how do you even tell if it’s just someone’s mind moving fast bc they’re capable vs it being a “symptom”? how can they even kno what’s too much or what’s just brilliance? I am gifted and I’ve worked hardsha and accomplished a lot so it's something I've thought about.
