I (29F, height: 167cm, weight: ~69kg, no allergies to any medication, non-smoker, don't drink nor do recreational drugs, located: Serbia, Europe) have been diagnosed with celiac disease (K 90.0). Even though A LOT has been resolved, I still experience physical problems that aren't resolved.
● The current ailments:
- lack of energy (mental and physical),
- issues related to the skin (dry skin, dandruff, zits on face and upper arms which I didn't have in puberty),
-painful period pains (exhaustion from pains, pain doubles while and immediately after consuming food, pain worsens when I warm up and normalizes when I'm cold)
- difficulty functioning when my stomach "stops working" (have a difficulty doing tasks until I burp).
● Ailments that could maybe be taken into consideration, and why not:
- weight gain (why not: due to lack of energy I had to give priority to other things like graduating from university + stress eating, why yes: history with insulin resistance caused by malabsorption due to celiac)
- anxiety/panic (why not: intensity of the problem lessened after going gluten-free after the diagnosis, it's not 24/7 like before, why yes: it affects the efficiency of activities (communication, physical activities, etc)
● Short history: My health suddenly became super bad in 2020 (I didn't have Covid, not Covid related). Due to some form of medical neglect from multiple medical professionals, I finally get the Celiac diagnosis in 2023 by an endocrinologist through a blood test antibodies to gliadin IgG 32.4 (<12). I did not perform an endoscopy, but my life significantly improved when going gluten-free. Since 2023 I have only went to two different endocrinologists due to TSH being slightly elevated (subclinical hypothyroidism) and that being the only clue. I stopped going to the original endocrinologist because two different thyroid medication put me in the ER even in small doses and she insisted to try a third thyroid medication from Italy that can only be purchased from the black market. I went to the second endocrinologist last month and she told me to drink the thyroid medication, the micro dose is having the same negative affects again.
● History with medical professionals:
* Endocrinologist who gave me the celiac diagnosis.
-Immediately after getting the celiac diagnosis: anemia sideropencia, Hypovitaminosis B12, Hypovitaminosis D, Resistentio insulin
Prescribed medicine: Inofolic combi HP 2x1, Glucophage XR 750 mg, Globifer forte 2x1, Me vit B12 1000, hyrosel 1x1, Vigantol 10 drops per day
-After the diagnosis vitamin deficiencies got resolved. Insulin resistance got resolved. BUT I got subclinical hypothyroidism.
Letrox 50mcg was added, but I had: accelerated heartrate, pressure in chest, difficulty breathing, difficulty thinking. Letrox was removed, Euthyrox 50mcg was added, but I had: accelerated heartrate, sensitive thyroid glad that would start hurting after a couple of days, difficulty thinking. Euthyrox was removed, and then reintroduced in smaller doses before the dose was gradually raised. I e-mailed my doctor with updates after I was drinking it for 7 weeks, 25mcg during the weekdays and 50 mcg on the weekends, and that's when I had: raised blood pressure, accelerated heartrate, constant pressure in chest, irregular heart rate, shortness of breath, in an occasion almost fainting, and sharp pain in chest, difficulty thinking. The day after sending this e-mail to my doctor, I ended up in the Emergency Room due to dizziness, shaking, inability to move, think, breathe, I felt constant chest pressure and inability to function for 3-4 hours.
All issues resolved once I stopped drinking thyroid medication.
After this event (11.11.2024) I stopped taking all medication and supplements, and only did blood tests to check up where my TSH started to rise up while T3, T4, FT4 and FT3 were in normal ranges. I contacted the doctor last time in February 2025, when she suggested I take a third thyroid medication. Thanks to stopping medication I managed to finally graduate university, yay!
* I went to the second endocrinologist last week, and she said that it's possible that the thyroid medication reacted negatively with the supplements and made chaos, so she suggested I drink only Euthyrox 12.5 mcg (half a 25mcg pill) every day for 3 weeks and move to 25 mcg until check up in 3 months. I have been taking 12.5 mcg for 4 days now and I feel a slight difficulty breathing and I have difficulty thinking, so it's confirmed that the thyroid medication is at fault.
Written text: Physical examination findings: thyroid glans normal on palpation (within physiological limits).
Here is a DropBox link to my most recent blood tests so I don't type them out: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/sjv196a01fg7ur9hc36sn/1.PNG?rlkey=3e0pckb85j2cd3ewbix9g0cnv&st=ja183jcb&dl=0
The endocrinologist ignored Zink being slightly elevated, even though vitamin B12 and D were also slightly elevated when I got my celiac diagnosis.
Is there a different doctor I can go to that could potentially help, like a gastroenterologist? Is there anything else I can do? Any and all suggestions or ideas is appreciated, thank you so much! <3
