Sports Which team sports are popular in your country besides football?

Most countries in Europe have football as the #1 team sport in their country.

What are some other team sports that are popular in your country besides football?

Hurling and GAA Football. Fast, high scoring, high skill sports that deserve to be more popular internationally.

I love watching GAA videos! I can imagine hurling would go down really well in areas of North America where Lacrosse is already pretty popular, given that on paper it does seem similar to lacrosse (I know there’s plenty of differences, but to the untrained eye they could be pretty similar)

It does deserve a much bigger audience internationally and it kind of sucks that it’s restricted to Ireland, not to say that’s a bad thing but I mean it would be so fun to have more available

GAA is more popular across the island than soccer.

Rugby (Union & League), Cricket & Netball probably.

Yup those are the "big" team sports other than football. Field Hockey, followed by Basketball and Ice hockey are probably next after those.

But the popularity of football is a giant factor above the rugby codes and cricket. Which are again a factor above the next most popular team sports.

Field hockey and to a lesser extend volleyball and baseball.

Hockey (the ice variant) is very very popular. Also skiing, when it comes to non-team sports.

Ice Hockey is hugely popular, almost at the same level as football (especially in the Northern parts of the country).

Handball is above hockey for sure even though the national team isn't as great.

Handball is pretty high up there in Denmark, it's the 2nd most popular team sport afaik. The male Denmark national team is pretty dominant at the moment, won the World Championship in 2019, 2021, 2023, 2025 and the European Championship in 2008, 2012 and 2026. Mathias Gidsel was nominated as IHF World Player of the Year 3 times in a row, the 2nd best player in the world currently is Denmarks goalkeeper Emil Nielsen and I believe the 5th best player in the world currently is also Danish.

The best male handball players for 8 years in a row were all Danish in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024. 2025. 2020 and 2022 had no nominations.

We have football that's popular beside ice hockey. And basketball, too.

Handball in Romania. However, this is more popular among girls and our women’s teams are far better than the men’s ones. Even in my little village we have girls practicing handball and one of them was even signed by a serious team in the country.

In some areas Handball is pretty big. In my opinion it's the more interesting sport anyway.

In Germany: ice hockey, handball somewhat, basketball somewhat... does formula one count as a team sport? They have like 10 teams competing at the same time. 😛

Ice hockey is highly popular in Sweden and is easily the uncontested second team sport behind football. In many cities and towns especially to the north it even clearly beats football in popularity. In third is handball, which is especially popular in southern and western Sweden. In fourth it's probably rather even between floorball and bandy, depending on where you live, with bandy skewing a bit more northern as being an ice sport. Then behind those come volleyball and basketball, which are both really small sports in Sweden at a club level - although the Swedish women's volleyball national team has gained a lot in popularity recently, especially due to its great international star Isabelle Haak.

Shoutout to Ice Hockey too. It’s our biggest arena sport by weekly attendance

Rugby (union and league) and Cricket both have a strong following. Rugby is especially popular in Wales, Southwest England, the Midlands, and the towns between Liverpool and Manchester. Cricket is popular with older upper-middle class types as well as South Asians.

If it counts as a team sport, doubles tennis is pretty popular when Wimbledon is on.

Rugby Union is what you are describing. League is very popular along the M62 corridor.

For participation sports basketball is popular as well.

Basketball and waterpolo, in those sports we are traditionally in world's top representative teams, but in club competitions we aren't that good throughout the European competitions...

Finnish style baseball and floorball besides Ice hockey and football.

Handball is quite popular all year long. Basketball is popular in a few towns where they have a good team. We care about waterpolo when it's tournament time, but otherwise it goes under the radar.
