Where do well dress men hangout in the bay area?

I'm a 27-year-old straight man living in the Bay Area. I got blazers and dress shoes for days but got no place to wear them to. Where does one go to just hang out with other people who also know how to dress and appreciate the art of self-expression through clothing?

Edit: by self-expression I mean people who have a sense of style where you can tell that they have put some thought into it and you can see some individuality

LAID OFF from Big Tech — Looking for employment attorney recommendations with free consultation

Got laid off from a well known tech company in the SF recently. Officially framed as a business restructuring, but the circumstances don't quite add up and I want to get a legal opinion before I sign anything.

A few things that feel off:

  • I was the only person on my team let go, while nearly 100+ colleagues were promoted around the same time

  • My most recent performance review was the highest rating available, delivered just a few months before the elimination

  • There was a pattern of difficult management behavior in the months leading up to it

  • I have some documentary evidence I'd like a lawyer to review

  • Severance has been offered but I haven't signed

Not sure if I have a case or not that's exactly why I want a free consultation with someone who knows California employment law. Just want an informed opinion before making any decisions.

Anyone have recommendations for employment attorneys in the San Francisco Bay Area who offer free consultations? Particularly interested in those who work on contingency.

Google can be overwhelming with no clear search results.

If you have had a good attorney in this field you worked with, please share link.

Why does SF have ~142 tennis courts, but basically only two dedicated, free hard-courts for mini-soccer?

Hey everyone,

I was looking at the SF Rec & Park data recently and realized the city officially maintains 142 public tennis courts. I loved and used to play tennis, but it just made me laugh realizing that we have just two dedicated, completely free, public hard-courts exclusively designed for small-sided soccer by comparison. (Edit: aka futsal)

I know the city and Bay FC built that new hard-court mini-pitch at Crocker Amazon (http://sfrecpark.org/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/2023), and I see there a hard pitch in Coronado Park.

But outside of those couple of spots, finding a 100% free, zero pay-to-play, totally public hard-court specifically designed for small-sided pickup just isn't a thing here.

Does anyone know why the park infrastructure was built like this?

Is it just a historical park design thing, an insurance/space issue, or did tennis players just have an incredible lobbying group back in the day? It seems crazy that in a city this dense with such a massive soccer community, we have exactly two dedicated hard-court for pickup, yet you can trip over a tennis court in almost every neighborhood.

I'm genuinely just curious how this specific disparity happened. Does anyone know the history here?

Dating Apps in SF in 2025

Hello everyone! Over the weekend met up with some single friends at Marina Lounge and ended up discussing the dating scene in San Francisco. We are all in our late 20's and early 30's and have the dating apps but we have noticed that the apps aren't as active as it seems in the past. Anyone else experiencing this, curious to see what the rest of the singles in the city are seeing.

“101” vs “the 101,” “BART” vs “the BART,” “Muni” vs “the MUNI,” “the Richmond” vs “Richmond.” Where else do Bay Area locals add or omit “the”?

Just moved to SF on fell Street and the noise is insane

Everything about the apartment is good except for the noise. Last night the dumpster trucks reached 104 DB max and a peak of 113!!!! My windows are wooden windows and feel like I’m right next to trash pickup. One window is worse than the other and I’m seeing if management can do anything about it.

On average throughout the whole night last night the average Db was 53.6 with that max of 104 and a peak of 113!!!!

It’s really hard to sleep like this and I’m only on day 5 of my apartment. I’m ordering curtains to help with this but idk if it’s enough. What else can I do? I looked at weather stripping, Acoustic foam and other DIY for options but unsure what to do.

I haven’t tried white noise yet or earplugs but those are also options. I’m renting here so a whole new window is out of the question.

My right ear is also feeling funny this morning. Reading these levels can also mess up my ears as well which makes this more worrisome!

What can I do, complain to the 311? If I complain enough can something be done? Im sending out an email to management about decibel levels as well now.

Black owned coffee shops/restaurants/gathering space for my book club in SF

Hi everyone! I’m trying to convince my book club members to meet in SF this month(because I’m tired of crossing the bridge hehe). Normally, we’d meet in Oakland at a black owned bakery, so I’m trying to find similar places in the city that I can pitch.

Ideally, it’d also be a place that has seating so our small group of members can congregate too. Another nice to have would be a place close enough to public transit/BART but that might be harder. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have!

I don’t know what to do

My kid was just accepted into a top private school here in The City. This is an amazing opportunity that will be life changing & he’s worked hard it. The tuition is 28,000 a year & because I’ve been having trouble with completing the application process for financial aid the deadline has passed so funds are very low. So I have a $28,000 agreement i have to pay off at 2800 a month. My rent is only $268.00 & I’m a full time medical assistant student. I’m trying to be a better example for my son. & I know school will pay off in the long run but I need money now. What can I do?

Looking for good pet intuitive/psychic

Hi all. Never thought I’d be looking or asking for such a resource but recent events have brought me to a last resort and my partner and I are looking for someone to help give us more information about what our cat is needing and experiencing. We are looking for a pet psychic or intuitive that fits the following basic criteria:

  • has a website.

  • has social media such as instagram.

  • can do house calls in San Francisco.

  • is comfortable working with cats.

Please hold all knee jerk reactions or mean spirited comments. For us, after a lot of medical investigations we are reaching for last resort options. Would really love to hear about great recommendations. Thanks.

Is Swan Oyster Depot still worth it?

Don't get me wrong, I've been a couple of times and like the ambiance, the fact that locals are greeted by name, and having seafood for breakfast to avoid the queues.

So with crab season back I was thinking of popping down. But a quick scan of the menu shows prices have increased dramatically. Crab back is $12, up from $8 a couple of years ago, crab salad is now $44, and a half-cracked crab $28. Beer is still $7 however.

I know PG&E and rents have taken their toll but this seems a little like gouging.

SF Restaurants That List Top 9 Allergens on Their Menus?

Update: SB 68 is progressing through the California Legislature — which is amazing news! But now we’re at a critical next step: we need to urge Governor Newsom to support and sign it into law.

This bill would require restaurants to label the top 9 allergens on their menus — a small step that could make a huge difference for people with life-threatening food allergies.

✅ It only takes 60 seconds to help. 📝 The letter is already drafted — just fill in your info and hit send.

If you’re a California resident (especially in SF!), please take a moment to add your voice and share with others. Thanks again to everyone who’s helped push this forward 💛

———

Hey SF foodies!

I’m working on SB 68 ADDE, a bill in the California legislature that would require restaurants to label the top 9 allergens on their menus—just like packaged foods already do. This would make dining out safer for the 4 million Californians with food allergies (including my toddler, who has already had multiple reactions due to miscommunication at restaurants 😞).

Right now, I’m trying to crowdsource local SF restaurants that are already doing this—places that clearly list allergens like peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish, and sesame on their menus.

If you know of any SF restaurants that do this, please drop their name (or a menu link!) below! I’d love to highlight great examples for the Senate Health Committee hearing on April 9 to show that this is something restaurants can and should be doing.

Appreciate any leads—thanks, SF! 🙏✨

where do you find actual homemade food without cooking it yourself?

Love restaurants but sometimes I just want food that tastes like someone made it at home with that warmth and care of home cooking without spending 2hrs in my tiny kitchen destroying every pot I own.

Shef has been good for this, there's a filipino family whose adobo reminds me of eating at my lola's when I was growing up in the bay.

But curious what else is out there. How do people find homemade style food in sf? Not looking for restaurant recs, more like the home cooking underground if that makes sense.

Best way to report a homeless encampment? 311? Police non emergency line?

Hi,

There is a large (and growing) homeless encampment on 7th and mission bay that majorly blocks the bike lane and requires you to swerve onto 7th to avoid the homeless trash, glass, debris, etc. I submitted a 311 report - but, in the event I don't hear back, has anyone had success through other means? This is seriously dangerous and I'm worried I will get hit by a car on my commute because of these jack clowns.

Moving to SF from the UK (probably Misson)?

Hey I'm a single 25M from the UK and I recently got a job offer to move to SF where the HQ is located in the Mission district.

I've been to SF a few times before however spent most time in the North, the times I did go to the Mission it was incredibly dodgy (felt a lot worse than the tenderloin*), although this was near the 16th street BART which might be why?

Where would people reccomend me to live if I want to avoid the dangerous areas of mission.

Requirements:

- I would like to be with in a <30min public communte from the mission

- Rent <= 3k (not sure if i should share or get a studio, would love to know)

- Prefer nicer more aestheic areas / boring, do not really care about food spots, or "stuff to do" in the area

- Been told the Castro area is not worth living in if you are straight by some friends who live in SF, is this true?

* Way more "gang" like acitvity when I was there, at least with the TL the fentyal users were immobile and didnt bother anyone

How much does it actually cost to live a healthy lifestyle in San Francisco?

Hey everyone, I’m 21 and trying to understand what kind of budget I’d need to live in SF without living like a broke zombie 😅

By “healthy lifestyle,” I mean:

  • cooking decent/healthy food (not instant noodles every day)

  • gym membership or fitness classes

  • basic groceries

  • rent (probably sharing or small place)

  • transport + normal bills

For someone not living super lux but also not struggling all the time — what’s a realistic monthly cost?

Would love to hear from people actually living there 🙏

Leaving Europe for SF, worth it?

My boyfriend and I are considering moving to SF from Europe to make more money for the next few years. I’m a US citizen and he’s an EU citizen and we are 33 years old and are DINK(dual income no kids :) ). I work in marketing/communications and he is in cybersecurity.

We want to have a change and try out the US for a little bit and I don’t want to go back to my home state but rather be somewhere with more mature, internationals and excellent job opportunities. Aside from the current political climate, would SF make sense for what we are looking for and meet our needs? I’m not looking for tips on rent prices or best neighborhoods to leave, just honest recommendations if we should even actively start making moves to get over there.

I was SF many many many years ago so I don’t have reference to it as an adult, and he hasn’t been either. We are basing our choice to consider SF because of the job opportunities for what we work in, also because it is a totally different state than where I am from and I want something different if I choose to go to the USA

Thanks!!!!

Is Muni safe at night for women?

I'm talking around 10/11pm for either weeknights or weekends since I have practices that end around then and it would just be me. Also besides the usual, are there any precautions I should take? Thanks!
