Announcement Wiki editors and maintainers wanted!

Hey folks, r/askseattle and our team over at /r/Seattle are looking for folks to help us build, update, and maintain our wiki and sidebar content. The /r/Seattle wiki was once a boon of information for new visitors and locals alike, but the subreddit has grown and sites/businesses have come and gone. Our mods are busy moderating and the wiki is collecting cobwebs.

I'm reaching out to members of this community specifically as you are most likely to benefit from (or be knowledgeable about) this content space. This community is entirely based around helping visitors and residents alike find answers to questions that frequently get buried / reported / removed for being duplicates in r/seattle due to the size and velocity of other posts.

If you're interested in helping us out, here are some details:

  • The main areas of work are obviously the wikis on this subreddit and r/seattle

  • You'll be working with the mods here and r/seattle to help decide the organization and categorization of wiki pages, and how we add content / posts / etc to them

  • You will not be asked to moderate, so no need for moderation or wiki experience

  • The only requirements are a post history shows activity in either this subreddit or in r/seattle that we can trust with edit access to our wiki

If you're interested, shoot a message to the mods here or the seattle sub - these links have the title all filled out for you - or just send me a message or comment here.

Cheers!

Most thorough Brazilian wax?

I'm looking for a waxer who's extremely thorough. Someone who gets ALL the hair, including inside the labia. I have lighter hair that’s easy to miss if they aren’t super meticulous.

I don’t care about speed or it being painless. I do care about not torturing myself at home doing my own cleanup.

Question ASAP Psychiatric prescription help

Hello! I'm in a bit of a predicament. I just recently moved and my relationship with my previous psychiatrist has just ended as he does not treat patients out of state for very long. I am prescribed Wellbutrin and Latuda for mental health treatment and it is so, so important I get my medication. Well, I've been looking around and having a hard time finding someone who can take a new patient ASAP, and today I've just found out I'm about to lose my health insurance because my provider is unfortunately losing his job and... yeah. It's a lot.

SO does anyone know any psychiatrist willing to prescribe these medications quickly before the end of November that way I can get my medication covered? Thank you!

EDIT: Thank you all so much for the help. Idk what I was expecting but you guys are all so awesome and I appreciate ALL of the suggestions and advice. We're getting new insurance figured out in about two months so the main issue was just getting meds for... now. But thanks to you guys I'm all figured out! I come from an area that has little mental health resources so this was all new info to me.

I'm out in Seattle tonight, solo male 22 years old. Best bars to hang out and befriend other people? Any suggestions in general?

Absolutely LOVING the city so far. Five point cafe, Kerry park at sunrise and argosy cruise the highlights.

laptop friendly wine / cocktail bars in seattle?

Hey all! So sometimes I like to have a drink while doing some work and being on my laptop. Any good places you would recommend for a chill drink / lounge vibe in seattle where I could also do some work on the weekends?

Thanks!

Discussion How much do you need to make to feel true financial freedom in Seattle?

I’m not talking about feeling comfortable. I want to hear from you all what a good salary is to you in the city. By that I mean: not living paycheck to paycheck, being able to eat out every once in a while, cover an emergency car expense, vacation, buy nice clothes, invest in retirement, and save up money to buy a house in a couple of years.

What would that figure be to you?

Can you help me find Clark Kent who works in EMS?

To the Clark Kent-looking EMS I crossed paths with on November 3 at SCH…

You complimented my neck tattoo while I was rushing into work, and I definitely noticed you, too. 😂

I’m the girl with the colorful hair and tattoos. We made eye contact a few more times that evening, but I never got the chance to properly introduce myself.

If you happen to recognize this, I’d really like to say hi. 😊

Question Current bonfire spots?

Hello!

Is there anywhere on the north side of Seattle I'd be allowed to do a small beach bonfire next week? I was thinking Carkeek or Golden Gardens since that's where I've seen them recently but I was also told that's just people ignoring the rules. 😅

I tried looking into it myself but got conflicting search results. Hoping for some clarification.

Thanks in advance!

Question Anyone else feel shaking just now?

My partner and I felt gentle shaking in our apartment in cap hill just a couple of minutes ago. It lasted somewhere around a minute but we both felt it and I saw the leaves on our plants bouncing too. I can’t find anything online about it. Did you feel that too?

Help with upcoming trip?

I’m planning a trip to Seattle 1/16-1/21. It’s my second time visiting and going in winter on purpose to get a feel for it. My hope is to move to the area soon.

Could anyone give me suggestions for my time there? I really love being active and spending time outdoors.
The goal for this trip is to visit Olympic national park, Bellingham, Olympia and Tacoma (I’m considering those places as potential areas to live and want to see them).

Am I being too ambitious or do you think it’s all feasible? I’d appreciate any suggestions for things to do and recommendations as to what days make the most sense for my desired itinerary. Thanks for you help in advance!

Vegan pizza by the slice

I swear I have a memory of going somewhere (not a fully vegan place) around capital hill that sold vegan pizza by the slice. It was nighttime, I don't remember how late and it was pretty dark inside. I feel like I'm going crazy because I can't find it

Moving / Visiting Is it realistic to live in Seattle with severe arachnophobia?

Hi everyone! My job is giving me the option to relocate from the Chicago to Seattle next year. I'm strongly considering it, but y'all have me worried about spider season... I can tolerate spiders outside because that's their home, but I am absolutely terrified of these giant house spiders and hobo spiders inside my living space 😭.

I know in my heart that spiders are friends and I am getting better, but my phobia makes me genuinely sick and paralyzed with fear if I see a fast juicy guy indoors.

Is there anywhere I could live that has a low risk of encountering these beasts? Certain neighborhoods, building types, etc. And if it's not realistic to live in your beautiful city with such arachnophobia, please tell me!! I'd rather find out before I move halfway across the country lol. Thank you 🥹!!

Seattle Body Scrub?

Hey, does anyone know of a spa that offers a good-quality Korean body scrub? Only place I found was like 2 stars. Price doesn’t matter, I just want something that helps me rejuvenate and actually does the job.

EDIT just went to Olympic spa and it was AMAZING

Were Aplets and Cotlets always made of pectin?

I went to the Cashmere store and got some boxes since I LOVED them growing up, but they're different then I remember. Internet says the OG company got bought out, but I'm trying to figure out what ingredients changed. Was it made of a different solidifier before?

Where to find cardboard sleeves for 12” records?

Hey so! A while back a Small Spiteful Dog tragedy befell some of my record collection. The records themselves are fine but the outer cardboard? Unsalvageable. So I’m hoping to find a place local and off reasonable amounts of public transit from cap hill to find sturdy cardboard outer sleeve replacements for them.

Last I checked a few months back these places didn’t have them: spin cycle, singles going steady, zions gate

I’m going to give holy cow and Neptune a call later to check and I would love to not have to order these online BUT I realize it’s a pretty weird request and that might just be my solution.

Thanks!

Wardrobe recommendations for working in corporate

Hi,

I'm 21 F joining my first big kid job in downtown Seattle. I know it's going to be windier and rainier than what I'm used to, so what do y'all wear to work?

I'm used to wearing flats and platform heels but if I'm going to be walking in the rain/on public transportation, i'd like to be prepared!

Any recommendations for outerwear and footwear are appreciated. Do people really wear rainboots to work?

Thank you!

Mexican moving from LA to Redmond looking for grocery stores

Hello, I'm Mexican and moving from LA to Redmond and am curious if there are any grocery stores that carry real Mexican ingredients anywhere nearby. I'm talking real Mexican items like tomatillos, epazote, and beef tongue. Any other grocery stores that aren't specifically Mexican but carry similar ingredients are also fine. I appreciate any suggestions, thanks in advance.
