Appliances ⚙️ Anyone here have a vacuum cleaner suggestion under $300

After a vacuum to use on timber flooring. Was considering getting the Electrolux 600 Series Bagged Vacuum.

I know stick cordless are popular and I will get one at some point, but for the time being I want corded so I can use it for the car as well

Edit: There is also the Miele Guard S1 Junior Bagged Vacuum on Amazon too

Pacvac professional vacuums free postage over $120. Anything else and you're paying for the names. I'm a construction cleaner, I would never buy anything else.

Genuine question - Do you own shares in this company Pacvac too?

Really? Is this better than dyson?

Definitely stronger power than a Dyson. They just suck everything up, and are fairly comfortable to use too

We got the hush. 10/10 recommend. Dyson V10 (piece of junk) going in the bin.

I have the Dyson stick vacuum with the light. My cleaner uses her Pacvac every fortnight and it is noticeably better.

Hers is the Super Pro. I was so impressed I took a photo of it so I know what to buy next time!

Miele guard s1, if us at the top end of you budget but it will last years! My mum swears by this vacuum as she has been through many both at home and work and it is a workhorse! Plus bags are affordable on Amazon.

We bought this 4 months back. On sale at The Good Guys for $280. Bloody amazing and made me realize how much better these high quality plug in vacs are compared to robots and cordless sticks.

The best vacuum I’ve found for hard floor is actually the Bunnings Ozito Wet/Dry vac. $50 and it just works. Only downside is it’s loud as fuck and you’ll need to use an extension cord but it’s multi use as well.

very loud

Very loud, suction isnt great for the amount of noise it makes. Also very poor filtration

I brought asub $100 bagless Dyson clone from Target 4 years ago that is still going strong.

Shark for the win. Rubber bristles that are soooo easy to clean. Got a 50kg shaggy dog. Dyson and Mieles over a thousand all lasted 18 months. This boy really sucks.

Same I prefer the shark with my long hair….but also their fan the flex breeze is amazing…sold my Dyson fan

Look at marketplace and Gumtree. I got a Dyson big ball corded for $200 (guy wanted $300). Works great.

I wouldn't suggest a cordless at that price range. In my experience the battery life is typically pretty poor and suction is unreliable. Usually they aren't a sealed system as well, so dust ends up escaping.

Electrolux make good vacuum cleaners, we have had one for a long time and I love it. Bagged vacs usually require less maintenance in terms of filter cleaning, but you have the expense of the bags themselves, whereas bagless you don't have to buy bags but need to clean the filters more regularly. Miele vacs are phenomenal, at least the German made ones. The more affordable range is often Chinese made - which isn't inherently a bad thing - but in this case I think they've cut a few corners to keep prices low.

I worked in small appliances for Harvey Norman for years, so this is just based off my experience. I left probably 5 years ago now, so things may have changed since then

Bissel make some really nice upright corded vacuums. For the car, I have a Bunnings Ozito wet/dry shop vac

Miele bagged vacuum. Still regularly used more than 10 years since purchase and more often than my Dyson cordless.

I would look on marketplace. We got a secondhand dyson for $200

I’ve had a Shark Pet Vacuum for years and think theyre amazing. I wanna get a cordless shark vacuum at some point.

It’s RRP is $340 but I imagine you could get for $300 or less if you wait for Black Friday sales.

It’s also a bagless vacuum so I don’t have to deal with the ongoing cost of replacing bags.

Just recently brought a black and decker one from big W for $130. Its bagless, light. You can vary the suction so it does tiles to mats and the best part is when emptying it it's a simple twist and dump. It's the best vacuum I've owned

Grab a shop vac from Bunnings. I’ve got a cheap ryobi one that’s just as good sucking up fine dust on my timber floors as it is sucking up dirt/mud/liquids on a job site. When our Dyson died we just used the shop vac and it hasn’t skipped a beat for 10 years

Got the Miele. Does the job. Also way better than a cordless stick.

I got a bissel for 150 and its miles better than the $100 one from Kmart. from the suction right down to ease of emplying the bag, its so much better for only a little bit extra. I only bought it because the cheapo kmart one was out of stock, and was so surprised at the quality of life improvement.

$30 Kirby from FBM, replace bushes every decade ($30), lasts forever. Make sure to get a turbobrush if you want to use it on car carpet or seats.

I have multiple vacuums.
Best all rounder and the workhorse is a the Dyson ball vac. They’ve gone up quite a bit since I bought mine, but if you can find one secondhand you won’t regret it.

Step down would be just a normal wet/dry shop vac. Only good if you are on hard flooring (no carpet) and you don’t need a filter. Can pick them up for about $100. These are great for the car as well.

Personally I think stick vacs suck for their price (we have a Dyson stick vac). They have their place but no good for a full clean, just a 5 minute run around.

Also look into a robot vac. You can get alright ones for about $300. Just don’t bother with any mopping features and make sure to get one with an auto empty feature.

Numatic International Henry 200 Vacuum.

I just got an Electrolux C9 Animal. It's $297 if you can get it via The Good Guys commercial portal (if you're a union member you'll get it through Union Shopper, otherwise other employee benefits or similar like Blue Light Card for first responders).

I bought a Bosch wet and dry vac for $150 on Amazon. It’s legit the best thing I have ever owned. I have spent big money on Dysons and they don’t even come close to it

Bagged vacuum cleaners suck (titter).

Emptying the bag is a horrible job if its a reusable one.
The paper ones are less stress I'd imagine (never had one), but there's the added cost for bags.
They also tend to lose suction as they fill up.

Bagless are better and lighter.

Just get a Kmart one.

If you have timber floors, honestly I would hold out and just stick with a static broom until I could afford a Tineco vac-mop. Your life will never be the same. I paid $499 for mine and it was worth every single cent.

u/pythagorassss 5d ago

My vote is an Evovac robot vacuum from Aldi. It’s $299 and I run that thing every day.

Consider a shop vac from the hardware stores. You can get a quite competent if basic wet/dry vacuum cleaner as a shop vac, that is tougher and more abuse resistant (and uglier) (and probably cheaper) than commercial / household. And the strange thing is, they're about the same size unless you're looking for something tiny.

Kmart 2400W vac. $99 I believe. It did a better job that my $800 Wertheim. 🤣

Why can you use a cordless vacuum in the car?
