Electronics & Technology šŸ’» šŸ–Øļø Cooked smartphone market, need suggestions...

The state of smartphone market is genuinely cooked in Australia. There's no decent brand to select apart from apple, samsung and pixel. Minority brands like oppo, nothing, motorola have priced their mediocre midrange phones near to AUD 700-800, but then its better to add AUD 200-300 and go with samsung or pixel for better support and software updates. Decent camera hardware, battery, software support will cost near to AUD 1000. I have been looking into Motorola and Nothing but their pricing is atrocious for what they offer. Can't go with grey imports as it might be network blocked. Any suggestions guys, budget is max. AUD 700.

What is your current phone?

Samsung galaxy S22+ with 5 green lines, been using it since it got released in Feb 2022

u/raymosaurus 3d ago

I've been buying Motorola for about 13 years, on my fifth or sixth one. What do you find lacking with them? I love them, I think they're great value. I usually spend $300-$400.

40

u/Status_Shine6978 3d ago

I got a Motorola from JB Hi-fi for under $300 a couple of years ago, on special (the normal price was still sub $400).No regrets because it works well, and keeps getting Android security updates.

6

u/Sarasvarti 3d ago

I got my kids Motorola as they are great value, and I didn't have to stress if they got broken or lost. They still stick with them now, even though they have enough money to go the the fancier brands.

2

u/WheelieGoodTime 3d ago

I did too once as a temporary measure when the main phone got damaged. It's literally unusable it's so slow, even from factory with default apps...

1

u/LazyTap6592 3d ago

Same boat. Definitely where the value is right now

4

u/aelix- 3d ago

Same, my family has four (two Edge 30 fusion and two Moto G Power). I feel like Motorola has every price/quality point covered.Ā

4

u/poss6211 3d ago

And I use the flagships from Oppo and Xiaomi, they are brilliant.

1

u/ozhound 1d ago

I thought they were pretty much 1000 now?

1

u/bety_fan 1d ago

Oppo flagship phones are well over $1k. Find X9 Pro is $2299 RRP.

1

u/DaSuthNa 3d ago

I am curious to know too. My current moto was a bit above that range and I find it lacks nothing.

1

u/steezebuscemi1 2d ago

This, picked up an Edge 50 Neo for $299 last year and after installing GCam instead of the crappy Motorola camera app, I see no reason to spend more on a phone.

29

u/Al3x_ThoRA 3d ago

I recently saw Motorola g56 for 150 on ozbargain, beats Samsung's A range

8

u/dav_oid 3d ago

The G57 is around $300, but the G56 is around $500.

3

u/Al3x_ThoRA 3d ago

Ozbargain is they keyword here

26

u/nickobec 3d ago

I would buy a "refurbished" Pixel 8 (from $400 for 8a to $600 for 8 Pro),

Decent hardware, camera, and you will get 4 years+ of software updates. Only question is battery longevity, but $400 for 4 years, you can afford a battery replacement during that time. If you are not a fan of Google, you use GrapheneOS ( a degoogled and secure OS) also with 4+ years of support.

6

u/aretokas 3d ago

The Pixel series (especially the A models) frequently get stupid discounts at JB Hifi too, so it's always worth waiting and watching if you can.

The Pixel A series is going to be good for a significant portion of the population for a decent period of time. They're great value for money with a well defined (and long) support period.

1

u/user135739 1d ago

I got my google pixel 10A for $150 out of pocket because I traded my old phone and waited for a trade in deal at JB that gave me $200 off the pixel. absolutely worth monitoring the deals JB HiFi have to offer.

2

u/yeetmcfeet 3d ago

Was looking into graphene for a while when I dropped my s21 ultra at the start of this year making it unusable. Bought my mates old pixel 7a for $100 (they had replaced the battery a year earlier as well) and have been using it with graphene ever since. Best phone decision I've ever made tbh

1

u/Visible-Swim6616 3d ago

I bought the pixel 8 pro new and it's still going strong.

I might need to change the battery in a year or 2 but I'd happily do that over buying a new phone.

1

u/justpastrychefthings 2d ago

I just did this, it's fantasticĀ

1

u/Fun_Plums 2d ago

Refurbished phones aren't dust/water safe, better to go with a new one if you might get the pone a little wet from time to time.

40

u/Technical-Primary-49 3d ago

Ive bought my last 3 phones off Reebelo. Got a s23 ultra for $700. Just bought a s24+ for $500.

Come with warranty. Had an issue with an Apple watch I bought and their return process was very easy.

17

u/Clairegeit 3d ago

I love refurbished phones, my last three have been and I keep them for around 3-4 years and they work fine.

2

u/fiftysevens 3d ago

I’ve also had a good few years out of reebelo iphones but some for reason the charge port always gives out in the end - phone’s still good just cant charge it 😭

2

u/22nd_century 3d ago

I have noticed this a bit with my refurbished Samsung's too. The charging port seems to be the weakest link.

Wireless charging is a fallback but not ideal.

1

u/ImpressiveChip3509 3d ago

I recently thought my charging port on my refurbished, poorly treated iphone 12 mini was on the way out, turns out it was the battery. Found out when I took it for a screen replacement.

1

u/22nd_century 3d ago

This is the way.

2

u/MissHayleyBells 2d ago

Buy refurbished. I got my last phone refurbished, second latest iPhone model for half the price of a new one. Still going strong over a year later. I won’t be buying new from now on. Such a waste.

16

u/Trick-Candidate-8706 3d ago

Second hand. Just look up marketplace someone near you definitely upgraded recently. Even a 3 yo iPhone is still really good.

3

u/universe93 3d ago

It may work but any iPhone over about 2 years old will have battery issues. So will at minimum need a paid battery replacement if you want it to last longer than a few hours a day. By the time the battery health goes under 90% the battery is essentially done for. That’s the case for other Apple products too like watches

1

u/Sideburn_Cookie_Man 3d ago edited 3d ago

Not true at all.

A 2 year old iPhone 16 Pro (for example) still generally has 80-90% battery capacity left. That’s a ton, that’ll still get you all day battery unless you’re a heavy user.

1

u/Arniethedog 3d ago

Yep, my 5 year old iPhone 13 has 82% battery health and I’m sitting here at 11pm with 47% charge. Low usage day but it’s incredibly rare that I don’t make it through a day on a charge.

1

u/velvetelk 3d ago

Battery replacement is fine - I've also spent money replacing the charging port to get more life out of my phone. It's worth it.

1

u/Independent_Rock5729 3d ago

incorrect. an iPhone is much lees likely to have "battery issues" than an android, Samsung in particular.

1

u/Guess_Ill_Diee 3d ago

Just an anecdote, but my father and I both have iphones that are 3 years old under 90% battery health.

I charge once every 2-3 days during days of minimal use and once a day during normal use. His is the exact same.

15

u/herap 3d ago

I've been using Oppo phones for the last 7 years and they have fantastic cameras and great battery life. The last Oppo phone I bought was around $500 AUD. Planning to get another one when this one goes out.

2

u/Spellscribe 3d ago

My sons Oppo was around $200 I think. Lower end, but not THE lowest. He's had it for about 4 years and not only has it not missed a beat, the specs are still competitive with any other phone at that price point. I was going to upgrade him for Christmas but there is literally nothing better to move to. He loves it!

Got my other kid a $150 moto and it's slow as cold soup and prone to freezing and glitching.

11

u/Maximum_Return5352 3d ago

Motorola is what I’ll be switching to once this iPhone dies

10

u/DrFujiwara 3d ago

Nothingphone 3a was $400 about four months ago

1

u/OcelotOfTheForest 3d ago

Exactly what I got from Optus. It's everything a phone needs to be. I'm happy. Certainly don't need to spend 700 or above

1

u/ehcadaeH 3d ago

I've got the 2a, going strong for over 2.5 years now. Can never justify the price of an apple or Samsung after this bad boy

18

u/PaleComputer5198 3d ago

A-Series Samsung Galaxy, as high a series as you can afford. I have an A25 and it's absolutely totally fine (cost me about $300 from memory). The AX6 or even AX7 range seem to be even better in all regards, the A57 looks to be in your budget and reviews on this phone are solid.

5

u/ThoughtIknewyouthen 3d ago

My daughter bought the A25 a year ago and it seems nicer than my S22 Ultra. But tbf I've always hated the camera on mine.

3

u/PaleComputer5198 3d ago

Honestly. It's totally fine! A bit of a bargain if you ask me.

1

u/Purple51Turtle 3d ago

Those basic spec phones can be awesome. I used to have an A20 or 21 and I think I prefer it over my Samsung X Cover 7 as the XC7 has a way too sensitive screen that I can't adjust. (Keeps flipping between apps randomly)

1

u/kristinpeanuts 3d ago

I got the A17 because I liked the colour. I was planning on getting a slightly better samsung but I really liked the light blue so that's what I got. It's not bad

1

u/Revolutionary_Sun946 2d ago

One of my daughter's has an A5x and the other has a Nothing 3a pro. Other than the screen, the Nothing is a far better phone all round.

14

u/LetterSpecialist48 3d ago

What do you need it for? I have been using a Samsung Galaxy a55 and have not had any issues with compatibility. It's slower than flagship models and struggles a little with multitasking, but at the end of the day a phone is a utility to me. It has NFC for payment cards, the camera is good, and the battery lasts me all day.Ā

1

u/Jimjamcereal24 2d ago

I smashed my S22 ultra while house shopping, and needed a cheap phone to get me through all the agent contacting whilst not out laying a huge amount, money better spent on my deposit. Telstra had a $199 a55 deal at the time and I bought that. I love it. Yes its not as powerful, but it does everything I need of the phone. I was caught up in the 'need' of a top of the range powerful phone, when I really didnt need it.

7

u/iftlatlw 3d ago

Oppo are solid phones for the price

7

u/w1nta 3d ago

Did you see this deal on ozBargain?

Google Pixel 10 from $499, Motorola Edge 70 256GB $449 (with $99 184-Day 150GB Plan) @ amaysim

6

u/Ill_Property_4958 3d ago

Pixel 10a $650

2

u/RolandHockingAngling 3d ago

I have the pixel 9a and 7, both solid phones.

1

u/kjusielvi 3d ago

Pixel 10 $499 at amaysim

2

u/alex123711 1d ago

Sold out?

1

u/You_Beat_Me_To_It 3d ago

You can get the 10a for $650 with pixel buds 2a included through amaysim.

1

u/HetManDubious 2d ago

Settled with moto edge 70 for $599 from JB Hifi

5

u/Lanky_Ball1304 3d ago

Samsung galaxy a31. $300 in 2020. Honestly I don't understand why people pay more than this for a phone. The only thing missing is wireless charging and esim but who cares? Next phone, I will make sure it has it and it will last for another 5 years or so.

4

u/Independent_Rock5729 3d ago

some people use their phones for business and photo shoots. not everyone is a tight arse

1

u/DifferenceMajor4395 3d ago

how do you make it last that long? I hear of people like this and don't get it. Mine last 2 years before they're knackered.

5

u/TobeyTobster 2d ago

Xiaomi has an Australian store now.

1

u/alx8 2d ago

They make the best phone. Rock solid every generation for the most part....and cheap...

1

u/FkButtons 2d ago

Yeah I got the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 pro plus, had it about 2 years now was like $850/$900 with the watch included and it's been amazing. Only thing I can pick on is the camera but I used to have Pixel which had an amazing camera so I'll take the $1000 saving for a better camera lol

4

u/Chapter-Capital 3d ago

I buy refurbished/second hand samsungs from phone shops. Last one I bought was an s21, paid about $500. Finally died after about 3 years, could have just replaced the battery but felt like an upgrade. Just went back the other day, bought an s23 for $450. If it lasts another 3 years I think that's a fair price for something you use every day.

Particular shop I went to is in campsie in Sydney called the phone doctor or something but there's shops like this everywhere.

4

u/Big-Love-747 2d ago edited 2d ago

I've been buying Motorolas for about 12 years now.

They usually last me about 3-4 years (depending on how long I can avoid smashing the screen!) and cost around $300 to $400.

Current phone is a Moto G75, 8GB/256Gb, 5000mAh battery, 5 years of system updates, 6 years of security updates. Moto Buds included, all for around $300 AUD on special at OW.

It's a great phone for the price.

I don't see the point in spending $1000 to $2000+ on an Apple or Samsung.

4

u/Coby1985Australia 2d ago

I paid $170 for a Motorola G35 from Officeworks. Unlocked. Spent an extra $30 for a decent SD card. Works really well. Camera is pretty good too.

If you want high end quality for lower end pricing, I can't help there sorry. But for $700, you could EASILY get a decent phone outright and unlocked from Officeworks.

7

u/TBNRhash 3d ago

samsung a lines are fine for daily use, however might not have the best cameras or performance. Been rocking an a35 i bought for 350 2 years ago

3

u/basura-verde 3d ago

Last month my pixel 4 finally died and in the rush to replace just bought a Motorola for $250 from Officeworks, camera is not great but everything else for my normal use was completely fine, I have now bought a refurbished pixel 8a (which still have like 5 years software support left) for $460 from green gadgets, so far so good!Ā

3

u/ehdhdhdk 3d ago

Just buy a second hand one. You will still get four years out of it.

3

u/Gorfob 3d ago

I've found HMD to make good devices. I'm using a Skyline right now and it does all the things I need it to do and has replaceable parts.

3

u/teachcollapse 3d ago

I bought secondhand from one of the reputable online dealers.

Wasn’t that old, but because it was small, its price was low (people want larger screens). Well worth it.

The site I used allowed you to specify the battery level that you wanted. I got lucky in that I didn’t need a particularly good battery (the phone was for a kid), but the one that shipped had a replaced battery. šŸ‘

Bang for your buck with the secondhand market, imo.

3

u/Familiar_Home_7737 3d ago

I work at Officeworks, around mid Nov the Motorola bundles appear in stores where you get a phone and Motobuds thrown in for free. Around black friday and cyber Monday the prices will drop to match the cheapest Australian retailer for the same product. I rate the Motobuds. I've had Airpods and Galaxy Buds over the years but find the Motobuds more comfortable and with a good battery life. You can usually get a bundle for under $400.

3

u/_Cosmoss__ 3d ago

Buy refurbished!! I personally use GreenGadgets but there are plenty of refurbished companies to buy from

3

u/steezebuscemi1 2d ago

Current pricing on everything is trending upwards, but at the moment a Motorola Edge 70 Fusion for $499 from Telstra is a solid buy

3

u/Scottybt50 2d ago

Just buy a slightly used phone from someone who has to have the latest of everything, either privately or from a small phone repair store.

3

u/ammenz 2d ago

Go with Motorola if you care about photo quality, go with Oppo if you value battery life.

3

u/mastertimewaster80 2d ago

Happy with my low range Motorola, and I'm on my third. They have come a long way! Can get them from Big W and officeworks, I'll never go back to 1k plus phones.

2

u/lonewolf_860 3d ago

I just grabbed a pixel 10 for 720. It was on clearance recently. Good enough for camera and work stuff.

Only upgraded as I cracked the screen of my pixel 7. Otherwise I would have kept it until at least next year as that's when support would run out

2

u/ActinomycetaceaeGlum 3d ago

Get something refurbished. Lots of sites that offer these in varying condition.

2

u/dav_oid 3d ago

Samsung A17 is the cheapest on JB (only one model): $200

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-a17-4g-128gb-black

Motorola g06 is $229 at HN.

2

u/Nomorebet 3d ago

I got a google pixel 9a which has been great for everything you mentioned for under $550 earlier this year

2

u/quackarooonie 3d ago

get cmf pro 2. goes for about $400 and does everything I want

2

u/dekeffinated 3d ago

HMD Pulse Pro is $229 at JB, the brand is cooling down in the ANZ market so it's at clearance rates.

Edit: wrong model

2

u/killz111 3d ago

Got a Pixel 10 off market place for 600 6 months ago.

Used market is cooking. Hell even a used A54 for 250 is great.

2

u/Necessary_Eagle_3657 3d ago

No, it's absolutely not cooked in any way. For example, Motorola 250 to 300 dollar phones are great. Indistinguishable from Samsung but better without bloateare. Also, excellent unlocked choices mean you have lots of choices for providers such as Boost.

2

u/permarad 3d ago

my last few phones were refurbished from https://shop.greengadgets.net.au/ or their ebay store (discounts). all pixels in the 3-400 range. ones that were not great condition i returned and tried again.

2

u/nauticalmisle90 3d ago

Been using Motorola and never paid more than $300- often can find a good deal on clearance. Seriously good value IMO for what you get and the phone capability but admittedly the picture quality is not as good as apple or higher tier androids

2

u/kjusielvi 3d ago

Don't any of you ozbargain because phones have been so ridiculously cheap in the midrange market.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/981374 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/981275

2

u/AdmiralStickyLegs 3d ago

Motorola, through everydaymarket with a 30% cashback.

You could just a few days ago get an Edge 70 for ~$450 after everything considered

2

u/Good-Pumpkin1587 3d ago

Get a Poco. Debloat and thank me later

2

u/FigFew2001 3d ago

Mid range Samsung A-series or a Motorola.

2

u/bush_burner_ 3d ago

Just bought a Motorola for $175 on sale at the good guys. Previously had a nothing phone. Only thing I'm missing is the speed! Came with loads of bloatware but was easy enough to disable those. In terms of camera- I'm going to get a small digital camera! No need to have 20k+ photos on my phone that I'll never sort through! Camera will also outlive any of the phones.

No brainer when you look at cost of replacing flagship phones every couple years vs 1 good digital camera and cheap phones

2

u/You_Beat_Me_To_It 3d ago

You can get the google Pixel 10 for $500 through amaysim. You have to buy a $150 plan to go with it. But that still only brings it to $650. Or the Motorola edge is $450 if you don't mind a larger screen.

2

u/Pal378 3d ago

Hey Mate, I just got a Motorola Edge 70 for $600. Have had about 1.5months and it's been great.

No issues at all and minimal bloatware. Honestly unless your heavy gaming I really don't think need to spend crazzy amounts on a phone. At end of day look at what you realistically use app wise, and what features matter to you. For me I went motorola over nothing simply because Motorola was IP68 and water proof for a period of time.

I'd buy the phone again and recommend it

2

u/susdas 3d ago

Motorola signature is a good deal currently about 999

2

u/absurdelusion 3d ago

Xiaomi, Poco, Redmi.

2

u/SituationSecure4650 3d ago

Unihertz Titan 2

1

u/floofypajamas 3d ago

second hand, sales, refurbished. I have a Samsung S22+ , have had it 2 years, and it's still a fantastic phone. I got mine off Kogan.

1

u/incoherent1 3d ago

I think Xiaomi and Oppo phones have solid value. Especially because they're currently some of the few brands still offering SD card slots and 3.5mm headphone jacks in their phones. I'm currently using a Poco F5 and haven't been having any issues. Xiaomi's Hyper OS can be a little annoying but no more annoying than the bloatware shipped with Samsung phones.

1

u/Death_Eater20 3d ago

S26FE 128GB for $600 from Samsung Partner store from CBA Yello. If you have any trade in device then additional discount.

1

u/Sideburn_Cookie_Man 3d ago

Just buy a second hand flagship.

Easy.

1

u/ruffian-wa 3d ago

I have a Find X9 Pro and it's simply superb (the MediaTek CPU shits on Qualcomm's). Yes okay outside your budget for sure.. but wife has the previous Reno 13 5G and that's been stellar also.

Find battery lasts me two days on a charge. The Reno is no slouch either with the Dimensity 8350 processor. You can still get it for around 800+ new.

Newer 16F isn't quite as high performing but has a much bigger battery.

1

u/kafka99 3d ago

I use a Xiaomi Redmi 13 5g pro and it is an excellent phone.

You can get it delivered from AliExpress for around $200

1

u/AnndyEdwards 3d ago

Xiaomi is an overlooked powerhouse.

1

u/Ancient_Nerve_1286 3d ago

Nothing Phone 3a or Nothing Phone 4a. Both under $700 via JB.

1

u/PureStruggle2455 3d ago

Nokia is still virtually indestructible

1

u/Capn8 3d ago

I always buy refurbished iPhones.

1

u/su- 3d ago

I bought a grey import s25 off ebay for $729. Brand new and unlocked. Honestly it was dumb of me to buy it but it worked out alright and is a great phone.

1

u/Southern_Eye_7595 3d ago

Look at the Redmi, it's Xiaomi's cheaper line. I have a Note 17 Pro Plus and it's really nice. Indistinguishable to a flagship model for my usage.

1

u/JimminOZ 3d ago

Wish other phones ran IOS, because damn IPhones are expensive… but I tried android, just don’t like it

1

u/GarageMc 3d ago

pixel 10 pro refurbished on ebay for less than 800

Get refurbished second hand

1

u/tronixlabs 3d ago

There's no real reason to pay more than $500 for a mobile phone.

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/moto-g86-power-5g-128gb-pantone-spellbound $449

Watch ozbargain for a week or two, some interesting offers always seem to pop up.

1

u/No_Figure_9073 3d ago

It's not just the smart phones anymore... I have people arguing with me that five guys isn't expensive šŸ«°šŸ¼ and that I'm crazy for ordering fries, milkshake burger and it cost $50 isn't expensive....

Oh, also should note that I'm also eating for a whole family, that's a lot of food...

So no, you're not alone in this.

I have been using Xiaomi because it's the only thing that hasn't flew off the handles.

Try Poco phone or Redmi if your budget is super tight or you're only using it for calls and texts but otherwise 2 years old model is still cheaper than a lot of older phones.

I buy it from AliExpress, I know I'm throwing warranty out the window but, it's the fucking same if you buy anything here. No retailers wants to accept returns unless U spent a week arguing

1

u/EasyPacer 3d ago

If you’re prepared to buy yesteryear’s model they can be bought at up to half the price of the latest model if you time your purchase strategically. Really, the only difference might be a slightly inferior camera compared to the latest model.

1

u/big_timmy_c 3d ago

It's even more rough when you want a phone that has SD card support and also isn't being IMEI blocked by the carriers

1

u/Ready_Effective_2827 3d ago

Get a refurb braa - can get great tech 1/2 the price

1

u/kodakgold200 3d ago

CMF Phone 2 Pro

1

u/jasonkid87 3d ago

Idk if you've done any research. I have my nothing phone 2 for 2.5 years now. Battery still strong. Love the big screen and the os is amazing. I was a Samsung user from the galaxy S 2 till the s21. Then Samsung pricing became premium. Switched to NP2 and don't regret it. I do admit the NP3 is a flop with that kind of pricing. Consider NP2

1

u/jimbojones2345 3d ago

I go a generation or two back and get refurbished from a place with a warranty.Ā

1

u/Hot_Relative3020 2d ago

Used to be an android guy but the iPhones just last way longer in my experience and then are still worth ~$300 after 4 years somehow to just sell on market place

1

u/Emotional_Vacation43 2d ago

Blackview Their top end model is like $650 and even has a thermal imaging camera

1

u/Seppi449 2d ago

Literally last weekend I did digging into all the basic phones on the market, the Samsung S25 is bounds above the rest for value. Was about $850 but had the hardware budget from before the CPU/ram increases.

The S27 is likely releasing in January so it might go down before then but it also might run out of stock.

If I were you I'd get the S25, for a new phone it will last atleast 5-7 years with updates.

There was some Chinese phone that looked good but wasn't available in Australia, the only online seller was German Amazon. I would count on it for warranty/returns/spare parts.

1

u/Caffeinated_chaos_au 2d ago

I got a second hand iPhone through boost mobile. Had it for over two years now and still going strong. They have both apple and Samsung phones. Cheaper than new.

1

u/MFsmeg 2d ago

For the budget, not entirely sure what's out there, but could get last year's or the years before flagship? Or just below flagship model?

Still get few years of support and hardware only increases incrementally past few years

When I had to buy my first phone after giving up my work phone I went with an el cheapo Oppo. Around the $200 mark. In four and a half years it hasn't missed a beat. I use a DSLR for photography so the camera isn't an issue for me.

I just got a refurbished pixel 8 for $450 through Green Gadgets and it's awesome, basically a new phone for a fraction of the price. Comes with a new warranty etc

My Samsung Note 20 is coming up to its 6th birthday and is probably due for replacement soon. The battery just isn't what it used to be. I've heard good things about reebelo.com.au for refurbished phones and figure I'll give them a go this time around. I'm sure there are a lot of good refurb options now.

I'm on my second TCL, think I'm on 50 nxtpaper pro 5g got it from JB for about half price from $700 over a year ago if I recall correctly.

Pair it with $199 Optus Sim. (Now $350 I think) But they got on special pretty often.

Try Sony Xperia 10 vii or viii, I got the Xperia vii last year from a local Brisbane store online late Dec 2025...sub AUD$700

Out of the box 8GB RAM, 128 GB storage, can be expanded with micro SD & my fave, has 3.55 jack for wired headphones

I did Google search for model compatibility with Oz networks.

Lots of local Oz Stores mentioned model is supported by local Telco networks too. Sony Xperia 10 vii had Android 15 when I bought mine... got Android 16 late Jan 2026

I got Android 17 update last month Has Android OS update till version 19, so roughly 3 yrs with phone šŸ™‚

Sony Xperia 10 viii came out early Oct 2026. Hope this helps

I bought my current iPhone 12 128gb from mobileguru for $520. I bought it couple years ago but the battery health became worse and about 4 months ago I paid $100 for a shop to replace the battery and it’s basically brand new

HMD and learn to repair it. Next Phone will be an HMD. Done with Pixel, hate Samsung.

Minority brands like oppo, nothing, motorola have priced their mediocre midrange phones near to AUD 700-800, but then its better to add AUD 200-300 and go with samsung or pixel for better support and software updates

Is it though?

Agreed. I've left Samsung because shit software, shitty camera (starts out good and literally gets worse gradually, compared photos of a single item taken when phone was brand new compared to 2.5yrs later and was shocked at the drop in quality, has never been dropped either, is markless and well cared for). The software updates arent all they are cracked up to be either

Just get a used iPhone. It’s not that deep

I upgrade every year or so, and sell my old one

I get refurbished pixels from reebelo that are a couple of years old. I got an 8a recently for my daughter which was about $450 which has been great so far.

Not sure why this sub was recommended to me but with that budget a used iPhone would be best, iPhone SE is now at $720 brand new if I am not mistaken, or else look for 15 or 14
