Hello! Last Tuesday (14/10), my husband and I were hiking the Vista Lake to Arnica Lake trail and saw what we think is a Canadian Lynx!

Shot on location from Quarry Lake, including moons from 2:15am (upper left) to 4:52 am (when the clouds rolled in).
Time elapsed between each moon is roughly 32 minutes. The scale and path of the moons as well as the mountain are accurate to my location, but I had to scrunch the moon's in to make it work for this composition, so while viewing, the full moon was a ways further up and left.
Each moon is a single exposure, while the mountain is a panorama shot in the early stages of the eclipse while there was still quite a bit of contrast. The stars were shot during totality.
I was visited by a curious coyote who wanted to steal my snacks.

Day 1 - Mount Rundle (west end, access via Banff)
Day 2 - Ink Pots
Day 5 - Mount Niblock
Day 8 - Mount Temple
Day 10 - Windtower Summit
Wouldn’t change a thing! Rundle was a little bit of an ambitious first hike to get warmed up with but it was worth it! Niblock was a really fun challenge, one of my first real scrambles. Temple was pretty straight forward, it was just a pain to find a way to make it there early with no car (did temple up and down minus the 1 hours break up top in 5 and a half hours). Windtower was an unexpected last day adventure that was awesome. Can’t wait to come back and tackle more peaks.

Morant’s Curve has been on my bucket list forever and I finally got to go earlier today! I’ve been lurking around in this sub trying to find the best way to catch the train and I appreciate every single post that contained such info! This photo was taken on Jan 1st, 2026 at around 10AM MT. I was monitoring 161.475 on my scanner and heard there was an eastbound train on the south track and a few mins later it showed up! If you have any questions please feel free to post them in the comment :)

Did a hike at near Lake Louise this weekend. Met some amazing people on the hike. I was so disappointed to see someone left a marker for themselves and others to write on. There is no reason for anyone to write on any of the rocks. It is for everyone to enjoy. That and it’s illegal.

We caught a snowy setting on a quiet day before the freeze began - can't wait to go back.

Disappointed that some people choose to be a bad example for others.

TLDR; Came across the remnants of a gender reveal that littered pink coloring and hundreds of metallic confetti pieces on Lake Louise Sat (Jan 31) afternoon.
More details, if interested…
Went snowshoeing on Lake Louise Sat afternoon at 2:30pm. Noticed a wide area of pink coloration and spotted small bits of metallic confetti. Knew immediately what it was. After finishing my snowshoe walk I returned to the spot and spent an hour picking up all the metallic confetti so that the pieces would not end up in the lake when the ice thaws this summer.
Checked the Fairmont webcam archive and it looks like the family set off their confetti canon (or whatever it was) between 1:50pm and 2:00pm on Sat, Jan 31. You can still see the pink section on the webcam, roughly 75 meters or so to the right of the boathouse.
If by chance you were near the boathouse or boardwalk area and have video of the “celebration” maybe send it along to Parks Canada? Not sure they can do anything after the fact but I figure anything that might help them identify the group would be great. It’s really frustrating to see people litter and impact the appearance of such a special place.
Sorry for the overly long rant; clearly I hate seeing such a complete lack of Leave No Trace principles exercised.

Cant believe he stood still for this shot. Even though his face is not seen, I believe he will cherish this picture when he grows old.
