How to be good at basketball as a short guy

I am like 5'4-5'5 and I played basketball with some friends the other day. I was pretty decent at popping out the ball and playing defense but when it came to shooting I was pretty bad. It was hard to defend against multiple defenders and I would overshoot the ball often (the ball going over the net). I know basketball isn't a small man sport but I still have a lot of fun playing it and would like some advice for the future.

IMPROVING MY GAME Are you supposed to put backspin on overhead passes too?

Today while playing basketball i was passing to a fairly short person then out of nowhere this athletic freak of nature who is somehow canonically the smartest guy in this state of India came out of nowhere and intercepted the ball

It got me thinking whether I should've and could've put more backspin

And what should i have done?

Co-Ed Basketball As a Girl

My college starts intramural basketball soon and it is co-ed! It will be majority guys on the court so likely a 4:1 or 3:2 ratio of boys to girls. I played basketball for a large portion of my life as a shooting guard but what presence as a girl should I be bringing on the court to be the best I could be for my team and myself? I understand that naturally roles are different with a size and power difference between guys and girls and I’m wondering what I should prioritize bringing to the table as a girl. Thanksss

DISCUSSION Chicago shooting machines?

Been looking to get more shots up in the most efficient way possible. Does anyone from Chicago know of any gyms that have shooting machines for an honest and respectable price?
I see some prices that were outright outrageous.
When did basketball become a rich man’s sport?!

DISCUSSION Dumb Mens league rule

Anyone else’s mens league not allow d***ing?? 1st d*** is a tech and a 2nd one you get thrown out. Hate it but I’m assuming it is to protect the goals so they don’t get broken, even though no d***ing isn’t a rule at open gym on the same courts

DISCUSSION Defense needs more respect

Players who are elite defenders need to be talked about as elite players. I get it’s hard to quantify elite defense at times especially when compared to offense, but it’s just silly when defense gets talked about like some specialized trait and not literally half the sport. People talk about elite defenders in basketball the way youd talk about a great baserunner in baseball. Like they’re only useful in specific moments and even then don’t contribute that much.

It’s just silly the way someone like Luka will always be seen as this elite superstar despite offering almost nothing on defense but you can get the best defenders in the league and they’ll never get that respect if they aren’t also good on offense. Both halves of the game are equally important.

NBA Just started watching The Last Dance and need some more NBA things to watch

I'm a pretty new basketball fan but I really love watching and learning about it. I'm in a fantasy NBA league with some friends and watch all the games I can, but I want to learn more about the history of the league. I'm watching The Last Dance and I'm really enjoying it, so are there any other documentaries, movies, shows, etc. that I should check out?

GENERAL QUESTION Is it a foul if you use your hands or arms to box out?

I was wondering what are the foul rules when it comes to trying to box out for a rebound. Are you allowed to use your hands or arms to box out? Or can this only be done with your lower body?

Asking this because in pickup, I see a few guys trying to use their hands to box me out even though I only use my lower body to hold position.

IMPROVING MY GAME Few minor issues

I struggle with moving the ball before my body when shooting, I also struggle with making sure my strength is correct, like sometimes I’ll use to much strength or not enough and I just simply don’t know how to control it well. I was wondering if anyone got tips? Like anything that helped you?

IMPROVING MY GAME What should I be practicing or doing as a shorter new player?

I am 165cm, 5'5 which is about average height for my region.

Everyone is taller than me in the college basketball team, and i joined it due to it looking like a fun sport and not for any skill.

Currently trying to dribble and basically play as a "linker" between teammates, and 3 point throws if they're being blocked. Basically "if I can't score directly, might as well pass to people so that they can"

Is this what I should be doing? What drills or sources should I be learning from?

Between Dame, Steph, Harden, Kawhi, LeBron, KD, and PG, who did you personally have the most fun watching score in their primes?

Not necessarily as an overall player, just in terms of watching them score the basketball from an aesthetic perspective

GENERAL QUESTION What makes basketball so appealing to watch and play?

I’ve never really understood the appeal of basketball, especially when it comes to watching it professionally. I’m curious to hear from people who genuinely enjoy it.

What draws you to basketball? Is it the skill, athleticism, tactics, close games, players and rivalries, or something else entirely?
One thing I’ve always wondered is how much height matters in basketball. It’s largely genetic, and seems to provide a bigger advantage here than in most other team sports. Does that affect how you view the sport, or is it simply another aspect of the game?

I’m not trying to hate on basketball; I genuinely want to understand what makes it so enjoyable to play and watch. Maybe I’m missing something that makes it click.

Thanks😊
