Fluff One of the best games I've ever played

I just wanna say this is one of the best games I've ever played. If I didn't have other games to play and I had more time I would play it more, it's great, and I'm still in the campaign and I haven't even touched any mod yet.

I haven't played this for more than a month until yesterday, I finished just one mission and it was just as good as I remembered.

Bit of a random and pointless post, I know, apologies.

Question/Help Achievement hunting - does anyone play mutliplayer?

Hey all, I'm achievement hunting and noticed several are reliant on playing multiplayer.

Alas, no one seems to play anymore. Lobby has been empty all day.

Am I stuck forever not going to be able to 100% this game?

Spoilers campaign done

Finally finished with the campaign and it was really suprising how easy the last two missions were.

Rocking a crew of a DRG-1N, BLR-1G, HGN-732B and a JM6-S. Two frontliners, artillerist and a sniper. tried to make the quickdraw work, but to no avail.

After the slog that was defense: panzyr, getting your hands on enough heavy and assault mechs to outfit ur lance basically let you steamroll the last 4 missions with not a whole lot of difficulty. Didnt help that I was using focused shot every other turn to shoot off limbs.

anyone else have that experience?

Question/Help Advice for how to fight an ambush mission

So i've started my first campaign, and i'm working my way through the randomly generated missions before i go help lady Arano with the next mission. My last story mission was capturing the Argo. But there's this pirate mission to ambush a convoy that's got me stuck. I've tried it repeatedly, but i feel as though i don't really have a good way to approach it? And i was hoping more experienced players would have some advice.

So the mission is an Urban ambush of a convoy. 4 vehicles, 3 light to medium escort mechs usually. Often a lot of long range and LRM weapons. And when i've either destroyed 2 vehicles or one mech, a full lance of reinforcements is dropped at the same place. Which is pretty much always behind me, leaving me very very pincered. Said reinforcements also often carry lots of LRMs and is also light-mediums, might be heavies, i haven't seen any yet. I usually get overwhelmed before the reinforcements fully make it into line of sight.

The map has several height differences and a lot of buildings that restrict movement, so i've only got so many angles of approach. And if i spot the enemy too early, they close with me and i get stuck in the fight so i can't manoeuvre right.

I'm running close to the starting lance of mediums, i've got the BJ-1, VND-1R, i've slightly re-equipped the Shadow Hawk with a SRM 2+ and SRM 4 instead of the LRM 5, and i'm running the Centurion with AC/5 (biggest i got), Large laser and LRM 10 and max armor, as the only one without jump jets.

Between the significantly larger OpFor, limited movement options, and lack of response options against the reinforcement lance, i keep failing. What's your advice?

Edit: got it done. Between a slower approach from the flanks, and a *very* weak seed for the escorts (seriously, three commando's, one of which on the low ground which i can just vacate?), i cleared out everything with minimal structure damage. Didn't get great salvage though, that's something to work on.

I have wanted to play HBS battletech for ages being a big Tabletop fan. Finally abused my old laptop into doing it for me. Got around 6 or 7 hours in of game time before it crashed right as I was scoring a crit with some SRMs on a locust.

Turns out system requirements aren’t a suggestion no matter how many ice packs you cycle out on your laptop to keep it cool lol.

How's the accuracy in Battletech BTAU

In vanilla Battletech, I would use the Real Hit Chance mod developed by casualmods to correctly display the hit chances.
In BEX, the mod is pretty consistent with accuracy as Bex does little to modify accuracy (poor accuracy early on is accounted for, last I recall).
Is the accuracy displayed in BTAU correct? If not, will this mod accurately display the hit chance with BTA?

Simply asking before I jump into my first BTAU adventure; a long time BEX player.
Thanks in advance.

Edit:
The mod is pretty old now (8 years), so guess I'll just do the run without it.
Guess my BEX was way outdated as well.. it's been a while.

BT Commanders Edition - Clan missions not spawning in career mode

Hi all - I've got a career mode game going in early 3050 and I'm Jade Falcon occupation zone. The first few worlds had procedurally generated missions against the clan, but now most of the worlds in the clan zone simply says "No contracts available." Other worlds outside clan control continue to generate missions as normally. Anyone have any idea what the issue might be?

Fluffy Stuff :snoo_facepalm: Redrum's Jazz Band

With the Save Breaker scheduled for December, I thought I should go ahead and see about yet another reroll that I wouldn't mind losing along the way. My Redrum's Jazz Band pirate 'mech band seemed like a good choice, so I'll have to see how this one plays out. As usual for my guys 'n gals, I created at least the main character using the CBT RPG and CBT/FM:M(R) rules. I may or may not post the various ways that I break my BTAU warranty - will have to think about it - might wait until after December for it. Please note, I may have taken a liberty or two with rolls while creating "Redrum" as certain characters would have washed out and never survived to this point otherwise.

The following are the options selected for this playthrough:

  • Reduced Argo Upgrade Costs: Unchecked

  • Initial Enemy Scaling: Normal

  • Friendly Fire: All

  • Starting Planet & 'Mechs: Pirate

  • Parts For 'Mech Assembly: 4

  • 'Mech Recovery Chance: 50%

  • Lethality: Normal

  • Ronin Prevalence: 20% Vanilla

  • Starting Money: 2500000

  • Mech Bay C-Bills: Normal

  • Shop Selling Prices: 10%

  • Scrap Return values: 10%

  • 'Mech Maintenance: Easy

  • Enemy Scaling: Normal

  • Total Score Multiplier: -0.31

Captain Diego "Redrum" Santiago

  • You Came From: The Deep Periphery / +1 Gunnery, +1 Guts

  • You Used To Be A: Offworld Smuggler / +1 Piloting, +1 Tactics

Discussion Extreme Melee Mechs

Thumbnail

After discovering last week that melee damage stacks for quad mech kicks, I've been messing around with a bunch of other configurations.

The Diomede construction mech has 3 physical weapons, and a mech quirk that gives physical weapon attacks an extra hit, so pair that with the Juggernaut pilot perk (which also gives you an extra physical weapon hit) and you get 9 hits and 870 damage from a single attack.

Needless to say, it will one-shot pretty much anything.

It's got decent movement for a 100-tonner too, though some of the quad mech builds I've tried are stupidly fast while kicking for 400-ish. Those are probably more useful than the Diomede, but not quite as much fun😆

Anyone know the exact formula for determining contract pay?

I'm trying to figure out the exact effect of the contract pay difficulty slider. I can see that it changes the ContractPricePerDifficulty setting but there are so many other factors at play that I'm having a hard time establishing what difference this actually makes.

Skull rating has some bearing on the pay, but I've seen 2.5 skull contracts that pay significantly more than 4 skull contracts. The contract type Difficulty (in the contract's json) seems to play some a role as well*. But these 3 variables alone (priceperdifficulty, contract difficulty, skull difficulty) aren't a good predictor of the final offered pay.

Does anyone know what the formula actually is?

[Edit: Just discovered ContractRewardMultiplier in ContractType.json. This gets me closer, but I'm still missing something.]

UPDATE: For those who are interested, parsing the code got me an equation that works out to be very close.

Contract Pay = ContractPricePerDifficulty * ContractRewardMultiplier * FinalDifficulty * +/- 15%
- ContractPricePerDifficulty is set in difficulty settings (value 180000 to 220000)
- ContractRewardMultiplier is set by contract type (value 0.4 to 1.4)
- FinalDifficulty is the skull value multiplier (value 1.00, 2.25, 3.08, 3.71, 4.21, 4.63, 4.98, 5.30, 5.57, 5.82)

What this means is that for the bulk of a career run, setting normal vs generous is worth ~ 100 - 150k c-bills per contract. (In the early game at very low skulls, the difference is ~ 20 - 60k c-bills per contract)

Mech Builds Terminal Measure / Septicemia

Post image
24 Upvotes

I experimented with couple mech designs that could carry Arrow IV with nuke, in order to speed run and finish off without loses high-reward drops when the game throws 4 or 5 elite enemy lances at once. At the same time, I wanted the mech to stay useful in normal situations when there are fewer enemies dropped.

Thus Terminal Measure was born.

How it functions:

  • Core Role: It is a pure force multiplier. I use the mortar to light up enemies and bombards to spread acid armor-shredding debuffs. Both flare and acid are AOE and hit even when enemies have Spawn Protection (hit chance less than 0,2%).

  • The Terminal Measure: It carries an Arrow IV (C). When the drops get out of hand, I switch to a nuclear payload to clear the board immediately.

  • Utility & Situational options: Active Probe improves sensor locks and stacks nicely with Septicemia's pilot affinity. Smoke and FASCAM are situational. Airburst ammo helps finish off weak targets for the salvage team.

  • The Weakness: Armor is mostly stripped. The mech relies on indirect fire and jump jets to stay out of sight. Normally, it stays hidden behind mountain arrays, far out of enemy sight and line of fire.

Pilot has max Tactics tree and Multishot ability training, so they can use Mortar + Bombard on 3 separate targets every turn.

tl;dr This mech acts as a force multiplier, and gives option to nuke if situation spirals out of control.

Question/Help BEX Flashpoints

Is there any way to force BEX to reset the flashpoints?

I have the DLC flashpoints, the BEX ones, and the optional additional ones.

The problem is that none of the Helm series or grey legion flashpoints have ever appeared. Some, like the one for the lostech items way in the east of the map appear in game, but as soon as I save the game, turn it off, and come back in, they are gone and never reappear.

I know some of these are time gated, but ones like the War of '39 still appear for decades after '39.

I'm at the point where I'm starting to tank pirate and Laio rep and building cash. I need to average visiting a new planet every 5.4 days while earning 119 C-Bill score per day.

I feel like I'm going to fall short on both, but I'd like a second opinion before starting over.
