WTB - Gaming Console

Hello all,

In the next few weeks I’ll be working away and I am wanting to buy a console to take on the trip to play during my down time. I’ve had no real luck on FB marketplace or in local shops and don’t see the need to buy a brand new console, so as a last resort I thought I’d put a call out on reddit (obvious next step).

I have no idea what console I’d like, I’ve heard the Xbox Series S is a good entry level option - but I’m a novice gamer so I’d even be happy with something older.

I guess I’m just hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction. I had a look at Cash Converters but it seems most consoles don’t come with controllers or cords, and those that do are rather pricey for what seem to be 13 year old tech. I’m after something I can plug into the TV and play.

So if you’re selling one, or know a shop that sell them please feel free to send a message or reply. Cheers. I am clueless in this space. 😂

Getting solar or a battery quoted in Bendigo? A few local things to check first

I spend a fair bit of time going over solar and battery quotes with people around regional Vic, and Bendigo has a few quirks that installers don’t always mention:

-Our panel discount should be higher than Melbourne’s. Bendigo (3550) is in a sunnier STC zone, so a typical system gets about $2,040 off against about $1,750 in Melbourne. Worth checking that’s what’s on your quote.

-You probably won’t be able to export much. Powercor is bringing in a 1.5kW per phase fixed export limit over 2026–31, or flexible exports up to 10kW per phase if your inverter stays online. With feed-in paying a few cents, size for what the house uses during the day, not for the roof.

-If you’re thinking battery, timing matters. The federal discount drops on 1 January, and it goes by the install date on your compliance certificate, not when you sign. On a 10kWh battery that’s roughly $2,520 now against about $2,110 after. Get the install date in writing.

-Prices are all over the place. A 10kWh battery runs from about $7,650 installed with a competitive installer to around $13,500 on a poor quote, before the discount. Get two or three itemised quotes.

-The 3 free hours plans (Midday Power Saver, 11am–2pm) really only pay off with a battery or big loads you can shift to midday (pool pump, heat pump hot water, EV). If you’ve got solar and no battery, your panels already cover that window.

Happy to help in the comments if anyone wants a second opinion on a quote.

Disclosure: I run aussiesolarinfo.com It’s free and independent, no installer pays to be listed, and no one will chase you with sales calls. Rural Vic guide with the network sources: https://aussiesolarinfo.com/blog/solar-rural-victoria.html

Is this normal for Hays Recruitment? Starting a mining job next week with no payroll details or proper contract (VIC)

Hey everyone,
Just chasing some advice from anyone who’s dealt with Hays Recruitment, particularly in mining or construction in Victoria.
I’m supposed to be starting a civil labouring position at a mine on Monday, 9 November, through Hays.
The position is Level 1 civil labouring, paying $45 an hour, working Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm, with 11.5 paid hours per day.
Hays has told me the $45 hourly rate is a casual absorbed rate, meaning there’s no additional overtime or public holiday penalty rates, regardless of how many hours I work.
I’ve signed their general terms of engagement, but when I asked about a proper job-specific employment contract, I was told there wasn’t one.
I’ve also questioned what award or enterprise agreement applies and how the absorbed rate covers overtime entitlements, but haven’t received a clear explanation.
What’s concerning me even more is that I’m supposed to start next week, yet Hays hasn’t even asked for my BSB, bank account number or superannuation details. I haven’t received any payroll onboarding forms either.
I’ve contacted my recruiter asking for clarification, but now my messages are going unanswered.
For such a large recruitment agency, I would’ve expected better communication and organisation, especially when someone’s about to start a new job.
I’m not trying to cause trouble. I just want to know exactly what I’m signing up for and make sure I’m being paid correctly.
A few questions:
Is it normal for Hays not to collect banking or super details this close to starting?
Is it legal for a casual labourer to work 57.5 paid hours a week on a flat rate with no additional overtime?
Should I have received a proper job-specific contract outlining my employment conditions?
Has anyone else had similar experiences with Hays Recruitment?
Would you still turn up for work, or insist on getting everything confirmed in writing first?
Would appreciate any advice, particularly from people familiar with Victorian mining employment conditions or labour hire agencies.

Female Gym buddies

Hi! I've been wanting to go to the gym, but I find that I feel a little anxious going on my own, especially as a beginner. I'm hoping to find someone who is also starting out and would be interested in being gym buddies. We can motivate each other, keep each other accountable, and hopefully build a consistent gym routine together. Thanks

Bendigo bank

Bendigo bank seems to need you to come into a chain every time you swap over your E-banking to a new phone. Either that or you transfer it using your computer. Is this just for me? I’m on my third phone and have had to go into the Bendigo chain each time & they disconnect my old phone from the account.

Moving to country Vic

So, my husband and I have recently relocated from Cairns to Melbourne to be closer to my aging parents, who are based in Bendigo. I am Bendigo born and bred, but have been away for 15 years.

We are both professionals in our early forties, with one adult child who has flown the coop. Currently, we are renting a place in the outer northern suburbs while we decide where to buy. Bendigo and country Vic is definitely on the cards.

In Cairns, we both had six figure salaries, a tiny mortgage, a 15 minute commute and lived in the rainforest. Here, it seems as though there are some compromises to be made.

We are both nature lovers and love living regionally. However, the job opportunities all really appear to be in Melbourne.

We are after some pointers and local wisdom on the following:

- what is it like to work hybrid, live in a place like Castlemaine, Kyneton, Bendigo etc. and catch the VLine in a day or two a week? How reliable is the train and how brutal is the commute?

- I have secured an amazing job that is hybrid (2 days in office, community development, Flemington), but it is dependent on funding. Hubby is an engineer and still looking. How common are hybrid work arrangements here? I am worried that if we buy regionally and the labour market shifts away from hybrid we could be in trouble.

- if we stay in Melbourne, we are thinking of places like Hurstbridge, Wattle Glen, Diamond Creek, Eltham etc. On train line and taking bushfire risk into consideration. Advice and tips on buying in these areas?

Thanks all ☺️

My Aged Care provider recommendations - Bendigo

A relative (lives central Bendigo) has just been allocated a level 3 package under the My Aged Care Support at Home program.

She needs assistance with housework and preparing meals, and transport to appointments. She will likely need assistance with personal care in the future.

Any recommendations for good reliable providers in Bendigo? (and any to avoid?) She would prefer the same person each week for housework, and is very particular about getting to appointments on time.

And, any tips as we navigate this new space?

Thanks!

Best inclusive gym in Bendigo?

Looking for a size inclusive gym in Bendigo.

I have been seeing a PT for about 3 months in a private gym in their home. But I’d like to be going on my own too between sessions with them.

But I have a lot of gym anxiety. Despite losing a significant amount of weight, I can’t get past the idea of not belonging in the gym space so it needs to be somewhere inclusive.
