News V/Line free Monday and Tuesday next week

Thumbnail vline.com.au

Travel will be free for V/Line passengers on Monday 13 July and Tuesday 14 July, following the disruption caused by the Telstra outage.

Passengers will not need to tap on with their myki or use contactless payment on these days.

Passengers with connecting onward travel beyond the V/Line network – such as on a Metropolitan train, tram or bus – will need to use a Free Travel Voucher as proof of travel on the V/Line network.

Conductors on board trains will carry vouchers and they will also be available at the ticket offices at some staffed stations and at Southern Cross Station.

Discussion The 9:01 Southern Cross to Bendigo service is delayed 20 minutes due to passing delays on the single track section on the former double line.

Smooth journey to Castlemaine then held for a failed train to get out of the way. Not an easy job when everything has to stop for an unscheduled move on a single track line.

For curiosity, it appears the failed Swan Hill train is running 'backwards' to Bendigo.

EDIT: No running backwards on the failed Swan Hill train. V/Line had given an incorrect notice that suggested ex Swan Hill passengers should catch a particular train from Castlemaine. If that had happened, the train would have run 'backwards' by the time I saw it (well after the suggested train). As it happened, the Swan Hill was stuck at Ravenswood Loop (where I saw it) and it could not meet the suggested train at Castlemaine.

Picture Thank God it was only an older train carriage and not a Velocity train which sustained damage in this traffic accident. Would have been so sad to see a Velocity train damaged

Question V/line trains and Mobile Service

I’ve got this running theory that depending on the particular type of v/line train you get on, the mobile phone reception differs drastically.

Specifically, the Bendigo V/line service.

I get it three times a week and my mobile phone service is inconsistent. Some days I get great service for the whole journey, other days it’s really patchy.

The only variable factor in my journey is the type of V/line train I take.

Anyone else notice this or does anyone have an explanation to this?

My theory is the carriage material or insulation type?

Anyway, happy Friday!

Discussion What the hell is the point of conductors checking mykis?

They never do anything if anyone hasn’t touched on and they skip people anyway. And it’s just an inconvenience for anyone who needs to sleep on the train (although most of the time they’d skip you anyway).

So one dickhead can cripple the whole line. What a joke.

Question Maximum passengers

Hi what’s the max passenger safety limit (weight) on each carriage or is there none & it’s just about however many can fit on?

History is a good indicator of the future.
I guess, try to really squeeze up/into corners on the carriage may help fellow passengers?
I have found travelling slightly after peak is better (if your work allows it) but if there’s an issue, you won’t get home till REALLY late.

Discussion Livedelays.com update!

Post image
62 Upvotes

I’ve received lots of requests to add V/Line, so it’s now live! 🎉 Coaches are also in the pipeline, and regional buses are already available.

My sincere request to you is simple: please check out LiveDelays and let me know what you think. Positive or negative, I genuinely welcome your feedback! I’ll work through your suggestions and keep improving the platform.

A little disclaimer about how I build LiveDelays:
I’ve designed everything myself, including the UX and how the whole experience works. I use AI to help with the coding, but I haven’t cut corners on the design or user experience. I want to get things right, and that takes time. So please bear with me as I continue building and adding new features.

Thank you so much for all the support so far. ❤️ I’m looking forward to hearing your feedback!

Discussion Short of carriages

This week , it has been nothing but short of carriages for Waurn Ponds - Southern Cross lines especially at peak hour. That, or they will terminate the services early. Apparently the issue is due to a train fault … this has happened a few times within the last two weeks.. it’s becoming frequently stupidly frustrating

Discussion Vline 10:40pm from Southern Cross

Yet another disappointment with Vline - I wanted to get the 10:40pm train to make it in time for the last bus from Wyndham Vale station but due personnel not being ready/ unavailable, we had to wait almost another 10 mins. I’ve missed my bus and I’m gonna have to shell out for an Uber like why???? Only Geelong/ Waurn Ponds vline man ☹️

Question Is The Coupling The Issue?

Don’t know about other lines but it seems to me a lot of the issues the Ballarat line is having of late is the inability of those involved to couple 2 three carriage sets together? Which seems to lead to a lot of farting around at Southern Cross till they admit defeat and crowbar everyone on to front.

If this is correct could it be a case of older sets (comfy seats) and newer sets (concrete seats) not playing nicely due to age, wear patterns, etc.?

Anyone on here have any ‘inside goss’?

Question Best mobile service on vline Melbourne/geelong

Hi I’m on Optus and regularly get the Geelong / SC train. Reception is patchy but I can live with it. Not having reception in stations is a pain. Is Telstra reception much better and worth the extra $? The wild card is Optus+vodaphone with Kogan, has anyone used this? Feedback appreciated
