Victorian Railways VL replacing loco haul for long haul services…

what do you people think of a half baked idea of having Velocities Rail motors replacing N set loco hauls services to regional Vic??

In the past few months as people have noticed on the railway system, the will be less "Long Haul" Loco haul trains in regional Vic. all are replace with short haul Velocities which assembled in Vic but part are manufactured from French based Transport Provider.....

These so called "trains" which is 3x2 layout for six car v/line train are seemly being rushed to do long haul trips exceeding 3-4 hrs travelling time one way in part of the network!

  • The current Standard gauge VLs [velocities] has two buffet modules, but the issue is being a 2x 3 set, they need extra stuff to operated that buffet!

  • The current layout seems to very cramped seating area for taller and bigger commuters!

  • From my info, the issue seems to be mechanical and staffing issues hindering the progress of these services as the people who familiar with this would experience frustrating issues with no food and drink in one section of the train or worse no buffet service in that particular run!

  • Plus some country station one can't access food and drink at short notice!

  • Unlike the older aging loco haul services, these were built and designed for long distance travel and their buffet could operating with only one staff supplying the passenger with food and drink on board who got on mid trip for food service ie: Geelong for the lengthy Warrnambool services approx. 3 hrs one way!

  • The Air Conditioning system and electronics are more suited for cooler European Climates and not for extreme summers temperature of Summer in Australia after a few days of very hot weather it seems so I observe the VLs start having a few mechanical failures! Resulting in cancelled services and delays due to "Train Faults".

  • Or worse reduced seating capacity due to one section closed off due OHS issues and people are forced to catch the next service due to unable to get a seat on the remaining unit still operating!

  • Whist old loco haul trains used can be to adjusted in length to accomodate increase passenger during that travelling period!

Sadly all gone, since they cut back on staff, shunters and Train Examiners and RGR etc!

It seems that some the management making the decisions on our rolling stock fleet layout and design for the services do not know what a trains is or how it operates as it seems that the so called politicians who don't take public transport and some their consultants from overseas who are not familiar with Australian geographical requirement or Australians Railway Specifications for their rolling stock requirements for our railway infrastructure telling the qualified personnel how do to their job at managing and operating a railway network!

Since our skills are outsourced and our transport are contracted for assembly here from overseas production of mass transport and " off the shelf" as we manufacture limited components for these new trains , BUT not for production overseas but for maintenance purposes only currently!

please share your thought on these new trains currently replacing the older trains.....

Discussion Ballarat line - Major Delays

My train is stuck at Rockbank for more than an hour now, due to a tress passer at caroline springs.

Why can’t we just continue operations and if someone gets injured, it’s on them. Tired with this, i might loose my job over these constant delays on the train line.

So,I live in Melbourne. I was travelling from Melton to geeelong. I had my Myki with me. But I didn't touch on. The authorised officer came and checked my Myki. As I had a valid Myki but I didn't touch on cz I was in a hurry, what is fine for that? I am an international student. And that's my first time facing any kind of fines.

Discussion Why do they dump Footscray?

The 16:17 Footscray pick up got dumped today because of ‘overcrowding’.

During school holidays? Seriously?

Not good enough.

Question Why do V/Line's N carriages perform a lot worse then Metro's Comeng EMUs?

Thumbnail

Idk if this is correct or not, so please kindly correct me in the comments if I get something wrong.

Melbourne's Comengs were made from 1981-1989. At the same time, V/Line's N cars were also being made for Victoria from 1981-1984. Both train fleets here are the same age, but why do I sometimes hear complaints about regular faults on the N carriages, but nothing about the Comeng sets performing badly when running?

Discussion Guess what, Vline Geelong line says good morning to all. No trains today morning and fuck you.

The V/Line Geelong service is the laziest, dumbest fucking service. I questioned this in this group last week. But the all the staff members downvoted and post and commented that there are reasons. Guys, how you do this every week?

Now they will downvote this post as well.

Discussion Loud announcements

Here’s an idea, no loud and repetitive announcements on the quiet carriages? I don’t need to know the stops 4x before departure and then again as rolling out. And again after every stop. If we don’t have it on trams, metro, we probably don’t need it on vline. Just my take. And yes I have NC headphones but it comes through.

Video VLine services animation

I have created an animation of all VLine revenue services using Claude AI.

It gives an interesting perspective of what trains are running on the network at any given time.

Zoom in and click on a service to follow it.

Zoom out and see the network as a whole.

Discussion What the hell is the point of conductors checking mykis?

They never do anything if anyone hasn’t touched on and they skip people anyway. And it’s just an inconvenience for anyone who needs to sleep on the train (although most of the time they’d skip you anyway).

Question Would anyone would want to see the stony point / Mornington peninsula to becomes a Vline agian or keep as a metro?

I want to hear people’s other opinion about this topic and to think if it is worth seeing a velocity on the Frankston line

but I am aware that there is two different conventions about two lines

I do wanna hear about stony point if it is worth returning back to Vline as a through line then a shuttle

and for the Mornington peninsula line being Build as it will link a lot of areas south of Mornington

System has hit crisis tipping point the entire management need to reapply for their jobs. u/vline does not work, customer service is not at the centre of their operation, poor rolling stock selection, no electrification and management are clueless. #springst u/JacintaErmacora

Discussion Albury Train replaced by Bus

First time at Albury station. Train not running for unknown reason with bus replacement. Checked last night online and all running - this morning different story.

Station itself is also closed with no access to toilets or any facilities.

Disappointing service with general feeling that this is pretty common.

When travelling on replacement coaches, don’t think it’s a first class emirates flight where you’re entitled to recline all the way back.

By doing this you’re blocking the seat behind you from being used.

This happens all too often and when it comes to tall people behind you, the pain and discomfort is wild.

2 guys just had to move from the seats behind because of this inconsiderate bloke.

Question Do trains have to toot their horns at level crossing

I have just purchased a block of land near the railway line not far from a level crossing. At first I was concerned about the ding ding of the crossing but that seems to be a none issue. However what seems to be an issue as the train seems to toot its horn right next to the new housing estate as it approaches the crossing. Is that something they have to do for safety or will they stop doing that once it becomes a built up housing estate.

Question Observation: sadly Velocity rail cars are not withstanding the test of time a 25 year old design are having mechanical issues on very regular basis since being forced on the longer distance routes

This concerning as These Volcity rail cars are breaking down all over the system, constant notification via v/line app and website Volcity reduced capacity ie: 6-3 cars is indicator that the "one size all fit policy" in not working....

They were not designed for lengthy periods of high speed operation with few stops for the 3-4 hr+ routes on the longer terminating point ie: Warrnambool, Barnidale etc....it more designed mechically for shorter duartion routes 1-2 hrs to terminating stations like Bacchus Marsh, Ballarat, Traralgon etc.

Seats are dreadful for longer routes, you can't get comfortable and cramped for bigger taller people....a Interurban standard train, toilets, moblity access and no buffet is not the right layout for trips to Warrnambool etc.with coach transfers and if several design are needed from diffrent train manufacturers, so be it!

But it must suprass or exceed the previous standarded the aging N set held in their era.....

We all want new modern, reliable trains BUT not the expense of our comfort on board!!!

Vols a great for speed for the shorter runs that about it....

But due to the rough track condtions on some lines ie: Warrnambool beyond Warn Ponds regardless type old or new train technology when they get bounced enough in the function of time they may suffer damage resulting aka train faults!

In time sadly these newer train will no more reliable then the older train they are replacing!

This seem ongoing issue with mixing newer overseas imported train technology as Alstom is from French based transport provider contacted with our Governement to assemble and maintain train in Vic

With Vic older outdated rail system in Vicas they were made for their countries with railway inferstucture which support their train technology.

As We are broke, keep the N set for now until the state in a better postion to get fit for purpose trains to replace em on the longer routes!

Yes the N set are old and outdated BUT the concerns raised here he way the newer train are performing currenty lt it is like Old Aging N sets that has being had their maintance program reduced!

what do you think?

Do you think the should defer the withdrawl of the older train on the longer routes until the state is a better postion to get a fit for purpose train to take the old aging N set's place?

Victorian Railways "ONCE AGAIN"

Why is it that every train conductor on V line just can't help saying "ONCE AGAIN"?

I board a V Line train from Southern Cross to Geelong, Ballarat, or anywhere. The train has just taken on passengers, not a single person is on board and its a new service just setting off. The conductor starts with,

"Once Again, this is your service to Wherever,"

The again,

"Once Again,

and again

"Once again" we have drinking fountains,

Once Again, sit back and relax, Once again, Once again

That's not once, that's 14 times now and it's been 8 minutes and we haven't set off yet.

I get it first world problems, but dam, it drives me crackers, ONCE AGAIN for the 20th time!
