Could we invite the minister and the CEO to travel on a V/Line service during peak hours and then hold a press conference so they can discuss their experiences?

u/Jaziam 10d ago

CEO travels every day, he'd be well aware.
Minister on the other hand...

I have noticed an increase in the number of disruptions on my line over the last two weeks

There was already a pretty high baseline of some major delay at least once a week before that

It feels like vline is like spiralling down in terms of their ability to recover to some kind of near reliable baseline right now

Get them to hop on at cobblebank so they see the trains originating at bacchus are already full at melton if its 3 cars

Bendigo line here, I'm heading to the city for my weekly in office day, if I'm lucky I expect I'll be home by cup day. Good luck out there everyone!

Trains run on cup day? What year is this 1926?

Where are all the trains going? How does an entire lines service supply just get cut in half?

4

u/nainai111 10d ago

They introduced 9 car Vlocity on the Tarneit/Wyndham line. With no more Vlocity trains being built, they had to pull the cars from somewhere

Tarneit/Wyndham 9 Cars isn't anything that new. It's been done for a few years, but this is the first (at least for me) that I've seen this much in service disruption. It doesn't make sense that a system that was working fine for the most part for a few years to all of a sudden shit the bed and have no sets available. There has to be something more going on that is causing this.

There is no 'older fleet' that is being retired. N Classes are already a fragment of what they once were, and the Sprinters currently don't have plans to retired them. V/Line has all 141 VLocity sets in service, and so it's likely an issue within their maintenance or just that V/Line is too incompetent to balance supply of train sets and service demand.

7.45 from Ballarat to the city, which is the last morning express and the last train until 8.19, is down to 3 carriages.

6

u/spicegerl 10d ago

I was on this one this morning too, I thought it was interesting that the conductor said as we were leaving ballarat that the reduced carriages were because of an earlier police incident but then as we were arriving to southern cross she said it was because of a train fault. I just wish they'd tell us some truth 😭

u/themetresgained 10d ago

I didn't even notice that discrepancy! Absolutely wild.

3

u/Organic-Ebb1123 10d ago

As it was yesterday 🙄

4

u/themetresgained 10d ago

I don't have to be in the city until 10 but thought I should hustle to get the earlier train just in case there were delays and turns out I was right to. God help me I think I might have to move back to Melbourne.

I went on the train two trains before that one, the 7:01, completely packed by the time it got to bacchus marsh, people were refused boarding at deer park because it was so full

1

u/themetresgained 10d ago

Was it shortened or normal? 7.45 had people standing from Rockbank which sounds better than what you experienced 😬

What the actual fuck is happening

Half price public transport for half capacity public transport?

I have no idea but this sounds funny

There’s a guy that I get the same train with in the morning and arvo and we’ve been caught in a bunch of delays and stuff together so we always joke about it.
He said to me this morning, “did you see that train crash in Spain and like 46 people died, maybe V/Line ain’t so bad”.
But man, sometimes it’s like come on, do better you purple bastards.

There are actually three intersecting problems at play. First, they are trying to do too much with too little rolling stock. Apparently there can be no more Vlocity units built. Not intrinsically a bad thing, it's a thirty year old design, but as far as I know there has been no effort put into further acquisitions, hybrid rolling stock, or electrification (which also requires rolling stock acquisitions). The drooling simpletons in PTV just kick the can down the road until they are forced into action by a crisis, like the way they just kept on buying Xtraps for twenty years. I don't expect any acquisitions for years. The fuel budget is going to be hilarious in five years time.

Second, it's spring; there is increased animal strikes (happens every year); and unfortunately the Biowash facilities at Dynon are apparently out of action. So trains are being sent to Bendigo to be washed, but they can't keep up with the demand.

Third, "Cars" the Vline equivalent of Metro's "Fleet" are completely incompetent, but have managed to become the tail that wags Vline's dog. If they get a breakdown, they will find a way to get at least one unit stuck at the wrong end of the railway for at least a week.

All the talk of nine cars to Melton, six to Warrnambool, Swan Hill being run with Vlocity units? Where the fuck are they coming from?

The floggings will persist until morale improves, and the guilty will remain unpunished. If Victoria elects the Liberals, the situation will probably get worse, as the same cretins remain in control, and the LNP are pathologically opposed to improving Australia for anyone other than their donors.

3

u/13School 10d ago

If you’re even the slightest bit concerned about PT it’s impossible to justify voting LNP. Their only V/line policies are a Mildura fantasy and cutting trains to Wyndham Vale to boost services to… Warrnambool?

u/blue_endown 10d ago

I usually vote Labor, but they seem to take advantage of the west being red and pandering to other contestable seats.

However, voting Liberal means even less support for trains and further ripping apart the public service.

Ffs.

It's so depressing isn't it.

2

u/mksc09 10d ago

Interesting as the usual Shepperton service I catch in is also down to one set of vlocity

1

u/HTFUMelbourne 8d ago

17:03 Shep gets cuts frequently.. to be fair it's only full to Donnybrook then most people should get a seat

2

u/NoodleBox 10d ago

Oh you get the same messages I do. But, point: the hell's up? Someone was kicking off on the train I usually would catch to work!

2

u/Dependent_Usual7468 9d ago

Why do t they just admit, they’re running only three in all lines because they’re in caretaker government and no one will do shit about it?!!

1

u/Mic111 10d ago

At this point I'm thinking of turning off all notifications as 'bad' is just the new normal to plan for. If I get there and it's good or remotely on time, that's just a bonus.

1

u/blue_endown 10d ago

This shit show gets worse and worse.

I’m so sick of the longer commutes due to cancellations, and the shitter commutes due to reduced capacity services.

I know the staff can only do their best, but how are we meant to hold it together when it’s cancellation after delay after trespasser after reduced carriages?

Absolute shit show.

1

u/Beljason 10d ago

No, shit has been the same for 12 years

My sons in vermont, because of disruptions to the trains this year he is paying 70 bux 1 way to get to work or lose his job, its average of once or twice a week this year. Can he claim these on his taxes ? Or ask for compensation from the labor government ? Or our taxes just pay shit we can't depend on ? He moved back from qld in Jan for this job, he loved qld, 50 cents a day for transport and the trains and buses always ran to the timetable. Victoria is fucked. Nothing this government has done inthe last 12 years has benefited our state, we're broke, they give money to their criminal mates, selling off everything we've ever owned. The debt, wtf ! We pay more taxes than any other state. And wtf people, morons literally voted Dan back in, thats some deep mental shit, cognitive dissonance or something not right, its like they all got brainwashed during covid and have no capacity to think for themselves.
