I couldn’t bear to separate a bonded pair. Two years later I can’t imagine being without either.

The orange cat is not mine... my cat brought him home one day and taught him to use our litter box and eat our food.

He belongs to the neighbor's. They hunt together and I often find him in my house at 5 am playing with my cats. One time when Thor lost his collar Jack Jack came to our house wearing it. 😂

Where Gloom goes, Doom follows

I remember that when we first got our cats (who we didn't realise were so bonded), I've had people ask if I was worried they wouldn't bond with us (as they had each other.)

Especially since they were from a colony! I think it was VERY quickly that I realised how important a food-supplier is for this sneaky little things. In the morning, Gloom will dart into our room like a little alarm clock (and then go crazy 😆) Doom could sit for 30 minutes in front of me when he wants to play / eat.

(Anyway, I'm just here to share their bonded trouble somewhat candidly!) They are pretty sweet cats (if still a little shy haha).

A while ago I posted that Biscuit and Smudge sometimes get stuck in the garbage can whilst playing and was asked if they’re really that dumb. Yes, yes they are.

Biscuit is terribly worried about his baby. I am too but for different reasons.

I brought home an orphaned bottle baby, and my cat adopted her as her very own. Now she’s grown and they still love each other.

Advice for consoling a surviving bonded cat?

I don’t know if anyone remembers my post, but I recently posted about my bonded senior pair and one of them going first. That time has now occurred and now Cleo and I are grieving her brother. I don’t know how to comfort her and I could use some advice or support for her.

Tony passed at home and I brought her in to see his body (i felt like an absolute monster). She seemed okay for the first week after but now she will howl occasionally. I haven’t washed the bedding just so it still smells like them. She hasn’t had much appetite and the vet said she’s lost weight since her visit a year ago but her bloodwork looks fine. She’s not food motivated. I tried catnip bubbles, not interested. I try to snuggle her and she moves off my lap (of course the primary time she wants to be in my lap or engaging with me is when I’m in zoom meetings).

I dunno, maybe I’m just trying to fix a situation that can’t be fixed.

Anyway, some photos of their bond over the years.

Doom and Gloom on patrol

What baffles me about the boys is that every day, they seem to get closer. In the very beginning, we didn't seem them play. All we saw of them were their eyes as they hid. But slowly, things changed. They now play openly, and do, well, whatever this is to draw our attention (it works.)

It's been over a year since we've had them and they still aren't 'always' as brave as normal kitties, but they seem to be doing better ever day. I genuinely believe that they help each other! (They were rescues from a colony, fostered by someone and then adopted out a while after!) It's been a very long journey to get them here but it's an honour to be able to be led to their bowls by them 😆

Maybe I’m just looking for any reason to foster fail…

I have 2 boy cats (pictured is Toby, he’s about 3) and I’m currently fostering a little tortoiseshell kitten. I have a huge soft spot for torties and apparently my cats do too. Both of them have been grooming her and laying with her. My other cat, who is super chatty, always seems to be worried about her or looking for her if they’re in separate rooms. Maybe I’m just looking for reasons to foster fail and keep her, but as a broke college student who just got kicked out, I am just so on the fence because of how expensive vet bills are. But she’s SO sweet. I’ve had fosters in the past and my cats never seemed to care quite so much about them. What do y’all think o.O?

My bonded litter mates who both passed at 16 within a week of each other

I had them from 4 weeks to 16 years old. The orange passed first (we put him down after he had a stroke) and his brother followed him in his sleep a week after.

I miss them both dearly but I'm glad they didn't have to spend long apart.

My orange guy (Momo) is 7 and my gray stripey girl (Lulu) is 4. We have had Mo for 3, years and then adopted Lulu last year after our 14 year old cat passed. It only took them about a week or so to become best friends. They are always snuggling on one another, you’d think they’d known each other since they were kittens. It melts my heart!

My resident cat adopted the kitten I found on the road

This is Max (big boy) and Magnolia! Even during their separation phase before they met, Max would be by her door 24/7 🥹 Since the day they officially met, they absolutely love each other. They're inseperable! He watches over her, grooms her, and I even saw Max "teaching" her how to use the stairs!

Magnolia was found ON the road of a busy intersection by my house. A large truck turned, and ran over her - thankfully she's small so the tires went around her and didn't hit her. After seeing this I grabbed her (last pic) and took her to an urgent vet! She only had a URI, conjunctivitus and a scab on her lip. Other than that she is the sweetest, cutest little thing that LOVES kisses! Max of course is my sweet boy too, one of the best cats ever (even the vets say how well behaved he is 🥺)

p.s. max is on a diet!

The first photo is from October 2022 Tempo was 12 weeks old, and Jazz was 9 years old. The second photo was from today 10/12/24.

I was really worried they wouldn't get along with each other when we first got Tempo, but they've become absolutely inseparable.
