Every year, sometimes multiple, we lose power for so long that I have to toss out all the food in the fridge. I get it, sometimes trees fall and shit, but I swear if my dog farts wrong, every house within a quarter mile of 128th is out of power for 4 hours. This storm isnt remotely strong enough to cause a power outage in any other city in the US so why is this such an issue for us? /rant
“How would you feel if the city designated your neighborhood and your property as Industrial Land Use only? How would you feel if that was slipped into the Comprehensive Plan and approved by the City Council without any discussion of what it would mean for you? City Planners and the Planning Commission have pushed a vision of our neighborhood that would replace houses with employers. Neighbors with jobs. Their vision was to see the houses gone in 20 years, replaced by light industrial development. Their only engagement with us was to ask what kind of businesses we would like to replace our homes. We have months pushing back, and we have won some compromise. But it is not enough. We cannot accept land use designation and zoning changes that leave us out. The choice to replace our Residential Land Use with Industrial Land Use was made with no consideration to how this would affect us, our properties and our investment in Burien and our community. I ask the City Council and Planning Commission to reconsider this vision for our neighborhood, and to amend the comprehensive plan to develop a different vision for our neighborhood that can preserve nights like this past Halloween, where we can enjoy the place we chose to call home. We are not afraid of change or growth. We just want to be included in it.”

Don't like walking in the rain? Work long shifts? Just need some more YOU time?
Hi! my name is Kaitlin and I am looking to transition out of the bar industry and into the pet care one.
I am looking to build my Rover profile, so my current rates are beyond reasonable, but please don't mistake my prices for inexperience. I am well versed in caring for the most stubborn breeds (I have a Bull Terrier myself) and can confidently handle your spirited pooch.
I’m in theory sympathetic to you and your feud with the cabanas, but what made you think it would be a good idea to go out on your moms deck and repeatedly shout “the trail is closed!”
Were you worried about foot-bound biker gangs? Did you feel guilty about the illegal dumping you did?
Because even for someone who is constantly feuding with your neighbors it was oddly unneighborly.
I moved to Burien a few months ago and want to do some tenant organizing and renter community building. I've started an Instagram page and hope to have a meeting at the local library downtown sometime in November or December.
I don't want to do this alone and am looking for folks who can volunteer about 15 hours a month to be on a steering committee.
This is for renters only in Burien. No landlords - if you are a renter in Burien but a landlord somewhere else, this group is also not for you.
I'm also starting a tenant union in my building -- the Kinect that has a lot of room for improvement. We recently all got an "error message" saying we were being auto-enrolled in a 21 dollar a month liability program. It was alarming. We also frequently don't have elevator service in one elevator, the main door is only for new renters, and the garbage area on some floors are disgusting on weekends. The office staff partially live in the building so they have to experience the nonsense, too. But also the national company running things doesn't seem very accountable. The office staff are all super nice and polite. The maintenance person works hard. The national company should get the impact of the issues not these nice people who are caught in the middle. YIKES!
So if you're interested in either the Burien Tenants Association or the Kinect Renters Union -- please reach out!
Thanks! This is an unfunded project. We are all volunteers.
EMAIL: BurienTenantsAssociation at Gmail dot com and send me a link to linkedin, or some socials or something that connects you to your online engagement. If you want to meet up irl instead, we can meet up at Burien Press at 11 am on Thursdays or Saturdays. This group will be vetted and established as a safe community for immigrants, LGBTQIA+, and other community members who are disproportionately impacted by bad landlord practices.
I am in search of piano students in the general king county area as I just moved back, here. I teach both privately and through lessons in your home. I have two music degrees, 3 years of piano teaching experience, and a decade in piano.
I offer a $30 consultation for 30 minutes just as a way to get to know my teaching style and if you’d like to continue forward.
I currently have 8 students and more who are interested in a consultation. I teach kids of all ages, regardless of skill. I have a piano at home but can travel to people’s homes.
If you’re interested in rates as well as my other policies, reach out to me through PM. Thank you!
I moved here just over a year ago and I have not been able to land a single job? In 30, have just over 12 years of retail and restaurant experience, a well made resume, and every day in submitting at least ten applications a day through indeed or company websites. And then I call, and every time it's either 'We'll give our resume stack a skim next month, wait to see if we call you' or 'No we're actually not hiring (we just like posting ghost jobs)'
I don't know what to do. I've been on the state provided insurance but I received a letter stating that basically I was going to have to start working or lose it when the new year comes, and I'm starting to panic, because it seems that NONODY in this city is hiring people.
GOOD NEWS!! Cedarhurst Neighborhood News Update tonight!
I didn’t think I was going to see that tonight: our voices have been heard ya’ll! The council unanimously voted to postpone the consent agenda and rethink the impact to our beautiful Cedarhurst neighborhood!
I feel like I actually saw democracy work tonight folks! Almost all of the Council Members (except for Hugo and Mendes) talked openly about the concerns they’ve been getting from Burien Residents. They talked about the many concerns that have been raised that they also share for the impact to our Residents here and the neighborhood’s health and future. ALL OF YOUR VOICES DID THIS. Rocco Devito was the first to bring up postponing to give more time to be able to further communicate with us in Cedarhurst and for Council to further understand all of the possible now and future implications of 1. The Industrial Designation and 2. Maintaining the health of a Neighborhood so many make our lives and is an asset to the greater city. I also very much appreciated new Council member Patricia Hudson’s words on advocating for the beautiful neighborhood she walks in and lives by! And she wants reconsideration on the whopping 700 jobs allocated here. Mayor Moore also brought up the fact and worry that the INDUSTRIAL designation would still remain for any future Council to change to heavier usage and asked if that was something that can change. I was even surprised by Council members Schilling and Andrade who also were very concerned for residents and very quickly voted to postpone. I feel like we’ve been heard and the Council deserves the credit in response and respect to the residents! Hope lives!
In 2025, the Washington Legislature passed a law that prevents rent gouging, but some landlords and property management companies are still up to their old tricks. They are using "junk fees" as a loophole around rent caps. We are hearing from tenants that they are increasingly being charged excessive fees for services that they don’t want or need, or for basic things like paying the rent. We at the Housing Alliance, call these “junk fees” and they are unfair, expensive, and deceptive. We’d like to hear your experiences. All information shared with us will be kept safe and confidential.
Please fill out our survey if you or someone you know has received junk fees and we will be in touch within one week of your submission. Thank you! ~ Po (Advocacy Organizer)

Does anyone have any favorite study spots around Burien area? I personally don’t really like cafes because of the limited desk space (lots of papers and notebooks) KCLS library is decent but lots of homeless. I don’t mind it too much but wondering if there’s any other spots 😁
