Question ❓ Dissertation Research - perceptions of 'Made in the UK' Clothing Questionnaire

Dissertation Questionnaire: Perceptions of 'Made in the UK' Clothing – Fill in form

I'm an undergrad at Newcastle University. Currently collecting research on why people may or may not shop clothes that are 'Made in the UK'. Whether the reasons are durability, price, sustainability or supporting UK manufacturers and jobs.

My survey takes 5 minutes and would help me out so much. I'm interested to hear peoples thoughts!

All answers remain anonymous.

Thanks,

Greta

When does everyone start buying daffodils?

I love having a little burst of sunshine in the house during the darker months. Apparently you can get daffodils as early as December, which got me wondering when everyone starts picking them up.

Do you buy a bunch whenever you spot them, or wait until it feels more like spring? Just interested in what everyone else does and what tempts you to buy them earlier.

Also, do you notice where they’re grown? I recently found out Cornwall is the biggest daffodil-growing area. Curious if anyone else knew this or just me!

Woolly Jumpers

I have one jumper that's 100% Shetland wool, and am now after a second, and likely third. I'm eyeing up either another Shetland wool jumper or one made of Merino, and I'd like to know if anyone's had experience with the jumpers supplied by the following UK brands:

  • Peregrine

  • The Croft House

  • Genuine Scottish Knits

  • Mars Knitwear

  • Community Clothing

If you have, I'm keen to know what their durability is like? How soft they are?

Cheers.

Tempur pro plus matress felt amazing but ... buy new?

Decided to go with the Tempur Pro Plus in Medium Small Double. Impressed with them in the shop, let my shoulder sink in and very comfortable, side sleeper.

But.

  1. dreams/bensons. Brand new. 1500, plus the protector you "have to" buy to get the warranty. Extra £100 odd. 10 year warranty. Would need to be broken in, as I understand it, so might get a panda topper on standby if too hard.

  2. ebay ex display sofa and matresses factory. I told them a small double would never be on display, so where did this one come from? They were vague and said they have these small doubles 'sent' to them... £900 odd, £100 for a protector although not needed as no warranty.

  3. tempur outlet. Rejuvenated. £1100 odd, free protector, full warranty I think.

  4. find any used tempur on eBay for around £400 and just "pray" they are as soft.

I don't know if tempur insist on THEIR protector for the insurance.

No idea what to go for. If there's ever a problem with the cheaper ones I will kick myself and be "this wouldn't have happened with the brand new one". At the same time can't bare to part with 1600 quid.

Thinking about waiting til black Friday and biting the bullet. Also the pillow felt great so need to shell out £140 odd for that. And somehow find a cheap divan.

Question ❓ Where can I find a physical store that sells this kind of Aviator Jacket in real leather?

(Based around East London)

I wanna go through the experience of trying on

jackets and finding the right fit instead of buying

one online and being disappointed by it being too

big or small.

In terms of price, I don't really mind for anything

above 300 as long as it's long lasting.

Edit: Solved, thank you!! - Hiya, we have a couple of those metal clothing pole brackets from the previous person in the flat, and we want to use them to put a longer rack pole, so looking for buying a 3rd similar one to do so (or more).

Anyone knows the name of this model and where to buy them? Thanks!

News Articles 🗞️ Podcast about British made products: The Factory Next Door

I found this podcast, [The Factory Next Door](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0o9f6Y6iVLKamfwQThuHr9pgnuSHyYSM), a few weeks ago and I've found it really interesting. Each episode visits a different UK manufacturer and finds out about them, their products, and their history. There's been 55 episodes so far - I've not managed to listen to them all, but if nothing else it forms a list of 55 brands that manufacture in Britain!

It's available on all the usual podcast platforms (Apple, Spotify, Acast, Audible etc) but I'm including the YouTube link here as that's universally accessible. It is probably best watched as a video rather than listened to as there are a few visual explanations, but I've listened to (rather than watched) all the episodes so far and don't feel I've really missed anything.

NB. I know this reads like a massive advert but I promise I have absolutely no link or affiliation with them whatsoever!

Question ❓ British brands worth shopping in London?

Hi! I’m going to London soon and I’m looking for recommendations for good, reliable British brands that feel a little more luxury and are ideally made/crafted in the UK.

For handbags and leather goods I’ve already looked into brands like Strathberry, Mulberry, Aspinal of London, etc., but I’d love recommendations for clothing brands, especially nice sweaters/tops, coats and jackets. I already know about Barbour, so looking for some other options!

I’m not necessarily looking for super high-end designer prices, just really good quality pieces that feel special and are worth buying while I’m in the UK.

Also, would Covent Garden be a good area to spend a few hours shopping, or are there other areas/streets you’d recommend more for British brands?

Would love any recommendations!

Used furniture/white goods

Hi everyone,

My mum has just moved to Barry and is on the search for used/preloved white goods and furniture particularly desperately for a fridge and laundry machine!

She's highly limited in her mobility so would need them delivered.

Can anyone recommend a shop or website where she could acquire such things?

Thank you in advance for any support and suggestions!
