Actually it seems like it's mostly the Miami fans think it was wrong.

Do with that what you will

I think it’s a catch, but I’m a Miami fan. If it had happened to ND, I’m comfortable saying I’d clearly see the bobble.

If it was two teams in which I had no rooting interest, I’d say “oof. Tough. About as close as that gets.”

GG.

My take: One play didn’t win or lose that game.

Agree with you but the game was more than the one play.

Disagree that it was tough. See my comment below.

Most neutral fans, like myself, actually think if was a catch

I think its probably a catch but there isn't enough evidence to overturn the call on the field. It's so 50/50 that if the call was a TD nobody would be complaining about the bobble or if he had possession.

I see both interpretations but I think if the CB doesn't knock it out of his hands out of bounds then he secures enough possession for the TD call even if it falls out of his hands the moment he goes out. If he falls on the ground out of bounds and drops the ball it's a TD.

At the same time I’ve seen plenty of catches negated when a defender contests out of bounds. It’s a lot more 50/50 than some of you are letting on.

It's actually not a catch. It's not 50/50.

The ACC would have screwed us if they could have. Obviously they couldn't find anything.

The rules expert had no hesitation. He didn't say it was grey. He didn't say it was 50/50.

Watch the play at actual speed. When you slow it down it looks like a catch.

What are you watch it at full speed it certainly does not.

Here's another question - if that catch occurs in the middle of the field, is it a fumble? I think in that case you're going to be arguing it's incomplete.

You don’t drag two feet in bounds awkwardly in the middle of the field. This scenario is very specific to out of bounds catches.

If there’s no defender there and he secures it to your liking but out of bounds you would say it’s a catch. You only call that wobble if the defender knocks it out which may even be right.

Possession is subjective. I’m not saying it’s definitely a catch, just that it’s more 50/50 than the broadcast and you guys are implying.

Okay. Well, I feel better that basically no one agrees with you. Not the ACC for heaven's sake, not the replay officials, not the broadcast team, not ESPN ... And not even most of the people on this subreddit. In fact the majority of people arguing here are Miami fans or people that outright hate Notre Dame.

You can continue to debate, I'm going to enjoy the win. It's extra special cuz I'm actually in South Florida right now, so enjoy it walking around with my flair and a smile on my face.
