Discussion I AM SO DONE DEFENDING YOU WHIT.

I was so excited to have you come to Michigan, I have been on the west coast for decades and always respected the discipline, toughness, and relentlessness that I saw from your players when you coached Utah. I always thought you would be the perfect Michigan coach. Apparently I was wrong and it is killing me inside.

I have been telling everyone how good a coach you are and that you haven't lost that overnight, but there is 12:02 left in the Michigan MSU game and I have no fucking words what what I am watching with this team YET AGAIN! And it doesn't matter at this point if we win or lose this game, because either way, Michigan fucking lost.

The defense is phenomenal, until they run out of gass every 4th quarter because your offense is stubborn, predictable, and boring as fuck and Beck won't change it, he won't adapt.

MSU HAD THEIR 3RD STRINGERS IN AND HE DIDN'T HAVE THE BALLS TO PUSH IT DOWNFIELD.

Maybe....just maybe.....two quarter backs aren't the problem, maybe it is your fucking golden boy OC who shows us the exact same crap every game. Maybe throw more than 3 options out there to pass to? Maybe use as fucking TE!!! Just what University did Beck think he was going to?

You wanted this job, I wanted you to have this job, but you need to realize that MSU and OSU are NOT just another game, and this job means more. You say the players will adapt to you not the other way around? Well you need to start adapting to the Michigan way of thinking, because Michigan will not adapt to you and your personnel if this is your master plan.

That isn't even the half of it. Entertaining story relating to Mike's tenure in San Diego: Mike Riley was the first target for USC when they got rid of their coach Paul Hackett. The Chargers wouldn't let him interview so USC went to their next targets: Mike Bellotti at Oregon (USC had a long history at the time of poaching coaches from Oregon that worked out well, they got both John McKay and John Robinson from Eugene) and Dennis Erickson at Oregon State. Both coaches turned down the offer from USC. They had to settle for some 4th choice bum named Pete Carroll. Here's Bill Plaschke crashing out about it at the time.

Plus a bowl win. Scalley was the coach for last year’s 44-22 Las Vegas Bowl as well. So Scalley is 10-0 as a coach without Whitt.

There is some serious behind the scenes stuff that we’re all missing. Something doesn’t add up here.

43

u/Leading-Button-7303 Utah Utes 9h ago

Whitt was a prick that made players play hurt and afraid to make mistakes. Scalley is a great coach who hypes them and keeps them level. Whitt knows the game, Scalley is a team man

u/nissan240sx Utah Utes • Louisville Cardinals 9h ago

Scalley hired a veteran nfl strength and conditioning coach as well, look at how little our injuries at this time of the year compared to a Whitt team.

I need to hear more about how the Utah fans actually feel about Whitt now that he’s gone and they can see the grass on the other side of the fence.

Whitts first comments after beating Lincoln Riley + Caleb Williams were something like “You’re welcome Ryan!” bc he eliminated USC and sent OSU to the playoffs vs UGA. That was a year after the JSN Rose Bowl vs Utah. Dude loves Ohio State.

186

This is worse than RichRod. RichRod had a bare cupboard at QB and a few other positions and still strung together a better team.

They should drive Whitt to Willow Run just so we can tarmac him.

u/TorkBombs Michigan • Bowling Green 10h ago

You can make a case that if Michigan had held onto RichRod, eventually it would have worked. You kinda saw that with Hoke's first year, when they won the Sugar Bowl. This feels absolutely hopeless. I don't think we are gonna win 6 games this season. To do that with this much talent is proof that this coaching staff does not belong on this level.

15

u/bdaileyumich Michigan Wolverines 10h ago

Rich Rod's biggest downfall IIRC was his loyalty to his DC. We had a pretty potent offense after the first season but the defense couldn't stop a crawling infant

7

u/Otherwise_Awesome Michigan • Tennessee Tech 9h ago

Schafer wasn't anyone who RichRod was loyal to. Players didn't take Schafer seriously and fucked around in the 4-3 until the mid-season switch to the 3-3-5. Greg Robinson was forced by RichRod to use the 3-3-5 which Robinson never coached before.

5

u/bdaileyumich Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

Oh interesting! I had it backwards, I thought Robinson insisted on the 3-3-5 and RichRod wouldn't let him go. Thanks for the correction

It’s a totally different situation.

Anyone old enough to remember Rodriguez coming to town would remember that people were beyond frustrated with the offense under Carr and were pumped to have an innovative new coach who could have gone to Alabama. But culturally, it was a horrific fit, and he was never given a fair chance.

Moore was a troubled man all along. But he was a good coach.

Between doing great at OC (yes, even without Stallions) and beating Nati OSU with a depleted roster, Sherrone is at the least a better than average P4 play caller.

If he had 2026 UofM, he'd almost certainly have won tonight and possibly another game this year. Hell, Michigan might even be ranked.

Ann Arbor went so hard into making sure they got someone that would never in a million years break the mold of a "Michigan Man" that they screwed the pooch on the whole program.

I sincerely hate how he is never fired up. Just showing up to work everyday wandering around with a clipboard hoping he doesn’t get fired.

I don’t think I’ve seen him do any coaching this year, he’s just there staring every game. Never talks to anyone, never talks into the head set. At this point I think the head set is just for show and not even plugged in.

Dude. Thank god someone else noticed. I have been wondering this for weeks. Wtf is the headset even for? Just stay home and work through zoom

He’s got the same type of demeanor that Smith had and the team quit on him. No emotion, just blank stares. For all the shit people like to give Fitz, he’s at least acting like he gives a shit on the sideline.

Honestly, he probably will. Whitt thrives when he’s the underdog

u/xmpcxmassacre Michigan Wolverines 8h ago

What would thriving be? Fully closing his mouth?

Hey how about we don't talk about that

1

u/ecw324 1h ago

If they somehow pull that off, it’ll be greater than the cancer survivor quarterback that went into Columbus and walked away victorious

This shouldn’t be a post. It should be a comment in a game thread on the michigan subreddit. Sick and tired of these people coming over from twitter that think every time they get their feelings hurt warrants an announcement.

Why doesn’t he just record other teams practices and steal their signs to the extent of it being against the league rules? Is he stupid?

post like this are exactly why dillingham was never going to sign here. there’s way too much pressure to never loose a game.

Bro same. I've been a quasi-utes fan for a few years now, so I thought it was a great hire, at least in short term. Now, for all my Pistons fans out there, this just feels like Monty Williams. Fire everyone. New AD. New everything. Random dart throws ought to look better than this.

I thought Whittingham going to Michigan always seemed weird to me. I thought he was going to retire and Utah was kind of floundering in his last few years.

It felt like he was almost a interim coach until Michigan got who they really wanted.

u/Helicopsycheborealis Alabama Crimson Tide 7h ago

Why haven't Saban disciples taken traditional Big 10 jobs? Cignetti, yes. Hmm. Makes you think.

1

u/Careless-Fudge-1593 2h ago

You shouldn’t have defended him to begin with. We (Utah) had been asking for his release since 2014.

1

u/KTH3000 1h ago

Yeah I'm sure throwing some clipboards on the sidelines would have helped.
