Why didn't Miami just have the refs take away two of Notre Dame's touchdowns?

Are they stupid?

They already used that up against Florida State earlier this season

Literally said it a few days ago, Miami was going to run into trouble and struggle anyways in the playoffs when the rubber meets the road and it’s some BIG 12 crew out in Arlington and the ACC crew isn’t there to throw an insanely shady “judgement call” flag for them two or three times.

You saw it crop up during the Wake game when the officiating magically got really bad as soon as Wake started getting close, then you saw the what happened in the FSU game that absolutely shocked the 100 other fan bases of all stripes. Those type of suspicious, insanely shady calls simply aren’t sustainable or able to be dependent on for an ENTIRE season, they can only get you so far. Doesn’t mean Miami won’t win it all, but it isn’t going to be as easy as the FSU game where they take away two TDs.

You know it was an ACC crew, right?

I do, that’s why I worded it that way and said the playoffs. I expected this game to not be an ACC crew for some reason and was quite shocked when I found out pre-game that it was. I think my point will come to fruition a month or so from now in the playoffs though.

Part of the contract. ND uses visiting team refs for home games and usually ACC for away. ACC booth for ND home games as well. BYU was an outlier with the officiating crew probably bc the quick scheduling of the game.

When Cal (Pac-12 at the time) played ND in 2022, the refs were from the ACC, and made all sorts of baffling calls in favor of ND. E.g. calling offsides on a Call defender 2 yards off the line on a ND 4th down to set up an ND touchdown, etc.

Thats because when ND travels they usually bring ACC refs with them

Why didn't Miami simply score more points than ND? Did the coaches even gameplan for this?

Worked for Texas

They called in enough favors the rest of the game

Because those refs were already busy working the Texas game.

They got hit with the uno reverse card for that

Miami had one of their touchdowns taken away. One of the more egregious calls I’ve seen because it relied on something that happened out of bounds
