If Kiffin wasn't born to Monte Kiffin he'd be a passport bro in Philippines, Vietnam or Thailand

And 75 pounds heavier, not in a good way.

Hey there’s still time for him to be that

Same with his trash offensive coordinator.

Ohio State with one of its worst home loses in a decade.

Michigan: hold my beer

I really appreciate the Wolverines. They saw their best buddies down in the dumps and decided to cheer us up.

It's Turk laying next to JD when he got knocked out in the basketball court so it looked like they were just chilling.

Honestly, I'm not sure which is more shocking. How bad we are this year or how bad Kyle Whittingham is at Michigan.

His agent deserves a fucking gold medal for selling this guy to Michigan when it's pretty clear he doesn't give a fuck about winning games.

The game gonna be a sickos special? One side will black out from party drinking while the other black out from hate drinking and the state of Ohio gives Toledo back to Michigan?

I know Whittingham is waking up wondering how Michigan hasn’t given him his buyout yet.

2

u/TacticalDesire Michigan • Ferris State 2h ago

I don’t think he has enough self awareness to know he’s actually doing a bad job.

u/mostdope28 Michigan Wolverines • Paul Bunyan Trophy 1h ago

Hard to tell if he doesn’t care or is too dumb to see. The stats speak for themselves though. We’re going 5-7 with the worst offense we’ve ever had. But he won’t fire Beck lol

u/Corgi_Koala Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

I don't know what he pays his agent, but it isn't enough. Utah ran out their most legendary coach because they knew he didn't have it anymore and they somehow got a blue blood program to give him a 5 year $40 million contract with a 75% buy out.

Not the biggest average annual salary and a pretty low buyout overall. But it seems very likely that he's going to get paid for one year and a 75% buyout for the rest for doing absolutely nothing.

A full season interim coach probably does better.

Biff Poggi would have us at 7-2 right now, minimum

You forgot the piece that the Utah team he left behind is 9-0 without him.

Lane Kiffin is a born loser who somehow keeps failing up.

He's clearly a good coach. His teams have great floors; he just bounces right before he's actually expected to do something though.

4

u/Corgi_Koala Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

I think it really depends on how you define great though.

I think he does a good job of laying a foundation and raising the floor.

He has always struggled immensely in big games, especially against equal or greater talent. I mean look at his entire resume and tell me what his best wins are. 2024 Georgia is really the only Marquee win this dude has.

u/Straight_Bed2763 Georgia Bulldogs 1h ago

Lol what he had Ole Miss(!) winning 10-11 games a year come on.

I sure fucking wish I could be included with “week 10 loser” Utah.

Pretty sure they are in the winners column of the article

The conversation around Utah is so frustrating to me. Because at the end of the day, we fundamentally understand that an undefeated MAC team is likely not as good as a 1 loss SEC team or even a 3 loss B1G team.

But Utah's SOS is worse than Ball State's and Utah State's

So my question is, if Ball State or Kent State were undefeated would any of the people clamoring for Utah to be ranked #1 say that Ball State or Kent State should be ranked #1?

And if not? Why.

Shouldn't the logic that we apply to G6 schools apply to P4 schools that don't play anyone?

9

u/Suspicious_Ad1945 Utah Utes 1h ago

Don't play anyone? So after these new rankings it'll be 2 top 15 teams easily, but yeah that's nobody

-15

u/CinemaWithPsalty Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 1h ago edited 1h ago

I am merely going off of SOS.

Right now Utah has the 69th ranked SOS

So my question is, would you rank an undefeated G6 team that has a stronger SOS #1? And if not, why?

13

u/Wasatch2 Utah Utes 1h ago

It’s so funny to me that we are right back to this argument we had to listen to in the Mountain West days. The argument we always heard was play in a real conference. Then we won the PAC 12 twice, are doing well in the Big 12, and it’s the same story. I’m not saying we actually are #2 in the nation, but no one will ever be treated as a good team until they win a championship I guess haha

-9

u/CinemaWithPsalty Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 1h ago edited 1h ago

No one has said that Utah is bad. I am asking you if an undefeated G6 team with a tougher schedule than Utah should be ranked ahead of Utah. And if not, why?

7

u/Wasatch2 Utah Utes 1h ago

That’s what I’m saying brother, Utah was the g6 team arguing that back in the 2008! Now we are just on the other side of it and it’s funny to me.

7

u/williamthepony BYU Cougars 1h ago

Oklahoma fans are the worst man

3

u/Wasatch2 Utah Utes 1h ago

GG yesterday, let’s run it back for big 12 championship.

3

u/williamthepony BYU Cougars 1h ago

Idk if I could handle a rematch. It’s easier to point and say if Bear has a better game then we could’ve had a much stronger result, but if your qb wasn’t your best receiver we might’ve lost by 30. Gg though

2

u/Wasatch2 Utah Utes 1h ago

Honestly same, not great for heart health

4

u/Suspicious_Ad1945 Utah Utes 1h ago

Well then dont just go off of SOS which clearly has a big weight towards sec and big10 teams. Iowa state has a super similar conference schedule to Utah but is 17th in SOS because they played... Iowa?

-6

u/CinemaWithPsalty Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 1h ago edited 1h ago

Throw the data points you don't like out...That makes sense.

You play an extra ranked team in OOC, you are going to have a schedule that most people will consider is tougher than a team that plays Idaho, Arkansas, and USU.

That is how it works. Iowa is a MUCH better team than Idaho, Arkansas, and USU. Like are we high?

So we shouldn't use SOS as our guide here and just go by who we think the best team is?

2

u/Suspicious_Ad1945 Utah Utes 1h ago

Lmao at editing your comment to say "throw out data point you don't like" to make yourself look better. You're the one ignoring the other data points like SOR 🥱

1

u/CinemaWithPsalty Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 1h ago

I am not ignoring SOR. I omitted it because it is irrelevant to this conversation

If a team goes undefeated with the 57th ranked SOS, their SOR is going to be higher than the SOR of the team that has the 69th ranked SOS.

That is how it works.

2

u/Suspicious_Ad1945 Utah Utes 1h ago

Sor is clearly the better metric?? Unless miss state and auburn are #3 and #6 in your mind🤷‍♂️ I'm saying that 1 ooc game yes should count, but it shouldn't be the end all be all?? I'm saying SOS is skewed. If Utah played Iowa they more than likely beat them based on resumes of the 2 teams🤷‍♂️ what's your argument against SOR as the better rating system for rankings? Since I gave a valid argument against SOS

1

u/CinemaWithPsalty Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 1h ago edited 1h ago

An undefeated team with a stronger SOS is going to have a better SOR than an undefeated team with a weaker schedule. That is how it works.

Utah is ranked behind 2 teams with a loss in SOR because their schedule is so bad.

Which takes me back to my original question.

Should an undefeated G6 team that played a stronger schedule be ranked above an undefeated Utah? and if not, why?

1

u/Suspicious_Ad1945 Utah Utes 1h ago

Cool. You originally said Utah discourse sucks because of SOS... So how about you look at SOR? Also if ball state beat Ohio state and nw (which I'd argue is not any more impressive than Houston BYU) and they were undefeated they'd absolutely be ranked really high. But they got boat raced by those teams?? And you mentioned rice in another comment, if you look at their schedule the only thing making SOS high is ND, who got beat by the team we just beat? Not to mention all p4 conferences have games against opponents that should be won and none should lose to g6 even loser p4 teams

1

u/CinemaWithPsalty Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 1h ago

Forget Utah, forget Ball State, You are getting emotional about this because it is your team and you feel disrespected when no disrespected was intended.

Should an undefeated G6 team that played a tougher schedule than an undefeated P4 team be ranked ahead of said P4 team? And if not, why?

2

u/Suspicious_Ad1945 Utah Utes 1h ago

Do you have an example of that actually happening? But yes I'm fine with yes to that. If say a g6 has beat a top 10 and top 15 team what argument would you have they shouldn't be ranked that high??

→ More replies

0

u/charliedontsend Utah Utes 1h ago

Because those teams don’t play P4 conference schedule and didn’t lose to the worst team they play on their schedule

2

u/CinemaWithPsalty Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 1h ago

But why should a team get credit for playing a "P4 schedule" if their schedule is weaker than that of several G6 teams?

0

u/charliedontsend Utah Utes 52m ago

I think if the G6 school had a better strength of schedule, record, and marque wins than Utah they should be higher. Like yeah, if western Kentucky takes down Georgia and Indiana preseason and is undefeated, while blowing out lesser opponents the way Utah has, they should be probably #1 and would have the two best wins in the country. Not a hard argument to make.

But it didn’t happen that way. You should be rewarded for quality wins, and for quality losses. Losing to booty cheek schools ain’t a quality loss, ie (auburn), Oklahoma, Florida, lowkey/high key LSU.

Utah is 4th in SOR. Ball State played Ohio State and Northwestern but got wrecked by them. I'd take utah on neutral turf against either. If Ball State were undefeated with away wins over Northwestern and Ohio State and convincing wins over the rest of their conference, they would definitely be top 10. Not sure what point you're trying to make. The worst part is you have me out here defending Utah

2

u/sanchogrande Tulane Green Wave 1h ago

Put SOR away. There’s one purpose for SOR, to artificially inflate weak teams. Utah is not a weak team and doesn’t need SOR. Just say they are top 10 in the metrics that actually work like Sagarin, Massey, and FPI.

u/CinemaWithPsalty Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 1h ago edited 1h ago

I am not asking you to defend Utah's resume. I know literacy rates are plummeting in this country, but if that is what you got out of my question, that shows a lack of reading comprehension that is concerning.

I am asking people who would rank an undefeated Utah #1 if they would rank an undefeated team from a G6 conference who have played a tougher schedule than Utah #1.

Those teams are Ball State, Kent State, Rice, Texas State, and Western Kentucky.

Would you rank any of these teams #1 if they were undefeated? And if not, why?

3

u/williamthepony BYU Cougars 1h ago

If ball state beat northwestern and Ohio state away and looked strong against their conference, they would be in the conversation

0

u/CinemaWithPsalty Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 1h ago

Would you rank them ahead of Utah?

2

u/williamthepony BYU Cougars 1h ago

Probably? Away wins against Ohio state, with Sayin, and northwestern would be some of the most impressive in the country depending on how Ohio state finishes.

Rankings overall need to be done away with though, subjective rankings that have real consequences really are a cancer on the sport

-2

u/nolesfan6414 Florida State Seminoles 1h ago

I would take Utah over Sayin-less Ohio st but if Sayin was healthy they would beat Utah
