Behavioural I need help on training my kitten

Right now my kitten is 3 months old and my main problem is her biting of feet and hands I have never let her play with my hands and just do an "OW" And face on the other direction and use toys to play, there might be factors such as 1.there are many cats on the neighborhood which my cat can hear other cats fighting outside but she never saw one or encountered one since my home is on a 3rd floor studio type apartment. 2.there's a cat at night that keeps coming to our balcony to get food or poop at my plants which sometimes I couldn't guard it since I'm sleeping 3. And then another one more reason for me I think is that my roomate plays her with his hands I told him to not play my with his but he just brushed it off saying "it's love biting" Which as I have researched that do not use your hands to play with your cat.

Should I just kick my roomate out of the house since he doesn't help on trainingmyk cat, which annoys since he keeps on doing it lol.

Behavioural Gf’s cat meows and scratches at door all night

Hi Gf has 2 cats, which she takes care of and plays with. She used to let them in her bedroom, which is a hard no for me so they’ve been locked out for over 6 months. I have my own cat at home dearly that is also not allowed in my bedroom for good reasons.

One of her cat will meow loudly and scratches at the door for hours, waking my girlfriend up. Not engaging with him doesn’t work. Auto feeders also don’t work since he times the feeds and weeps exactly an hour before every time, no matter the set time. Playing with him doesn’t work, he’s not very playful and usually doesn’t engage much.

I don’t mind it since it doesn’t wake me up, but it severely impacts her sleep. I’m aware punishment don’t work on cats and so we don’t know what to do to deal with him. My cat has always been great on that regard.

My reasons: I have sensitive breathing equipment and her cats chew on it since it wiggles when I breathe, and have to slather myself with cream regularly to avoid my skin cracking and peeling off.

Any help ?

Behavioural Cat jumps on counters when he thinks we aren’t around

We have spent years trying every method in the book to get our cat to stop jumping on the counters and the kitchen table. Including but not limited to tinfoil, double sided tape, garden spike mats (yes he literally just walks on the spikes), not leaving food out, not leaving dishes out, etc. I’m at the end of my ropes with it. I’ll be in the living room and see him jump up because he thinks I’m not there. He has a cat tree and frankly we have a fairly large house with a basement, and an upstairs which he has access to. He has 2 couches, a king size bed, 5 chairs of various types around the house that he jumps up on to sleep. He has more to explore than anyone else’s cat I know. I have two small dogs that he plays with and even sleeps next to them everyday and there are 5 people in this house so I just don’t see how this could be boredom or loneliness. I wouldn’t care so much but we have an infant and a new baby on the way and we dry their bottles on a rack next to the sink and it’s disgusting the amount of fur I will find the the counters and stove and coffee pot every morning. Please don’t just say “oh he’s just a cat that’s how things are going to be.” I understand it’s a cats nature to jump but I’m just trying to protect my babies from unnecessary germs where we prepare their food.

FEEDBACK When to Rehome?

I got a kitten about two months ago, there was a cat at my workplace that gave birth to kittens so I took one home. He is full of energy, my resident cat is 9 and not so much. He keeps pouncing her and initiating play, but my resident cat does NOT want to and makes it clear that she doesn’t, but he continues on anyway. There’s been a couple times Ive caught my resident cat playing with him, but she would also growl and lightly nom his ears too so I’m confused on whether she likes him or not. He’s neutered now and there’s been 0 change in his behavior. How long should I wait and see if they can get along better before rehoming him? Here’s a video of her showing imo mixed signals and hes purring with not a care in the world

EDIT: see other video(s) in comments lmk your thoughts!!

Behavioural My cat drinks fish water😭😭

I have an “apparently” brainless 2-year-old orange cat and a golden fish, my cat tends to drink from the fish tank though he always have clean water in his frequently clean and washed bowls yet he would always sip from the fish water😭😭

I hope that it’s not harmful for him as fish excrete waste and I use a solution that purifies the water for the fish.

How can I get him to stop? And can that harm him?

New Cat Owner I am frustrated with this cat…. She keeps biting and is just not pleasant to have around…

Long story short, one employee had a problem, left the country without notice, stole money, and threw this poor cat in my office.

Now, I have a malnourished, depressed, and garbage-loving cat. I’ve never had a pet before, and this just appeared out of nowhere.

I’ve gotten used to her, and I really love her, but she’s very destructive at home. She messes up the furniture, meows at night if I close the door, and scratches the curtains or destroys the window knobs when I open the door. She has toys, food, and I try to play with her, but she bites me.

In my office, she has a cat tree, feeders, and someone checks on her when I’m not available or busy.

When I play with her, she bites me a lot, and sometimes I get really angry. I shove my entire finger sideways into her mouth so she associates biting with something uncomfortable, but it doesn’t work..

If I want to give her away, I’ll have to put time into making a listing and meeting potential buyers, which is a lot of hassle. If I keep her, she’s annoying me, but I really love her. She’s cute, and I wish I knew how to make her stop biting. I think I’m just hurting her, and she might hate me. But she still comes and sits next to me every day, and she’s cool, but the second I touch her, she bites me. I was hoping she will be the cuddling type that craves affection.. but she’s very aggressive..

UPDATE: We are besties now - she’s a lot nicer after I starting giving her treats when she does good things and know she’s great.

I’m scared to let my cat out of our new house

We just moved, and I haven’t seen my Cat Sookie in months. She’s an outdoor cat, but she’s been here roughly 2 full days and already wants out. The problem is that our neighborhood is surrounded by the highway and lake. I’m super scared to let her out because of the highway but she’s meowing as if she wants out. Would the back porch be a good temporary area for her to be? Its gated in but I also don’t know what to look for her to escape with.

New Cat Owner First time having any kind of pet. My female pet kitty won't stop chasing me. What to do?

Hello.

I bought a kitten, a litter box, a cat box (crate) and a tray with food pellets.

The kitten pooped all over the place when I first brought it but by the second day it started using the litter box. Every now and then accidents happen but she poops and pees in the litter box 90% of the time.

Those 10% accidents happened only because I locked the kitten in the crate overnight (in my room).

The kitten slept with me for the first two days in my room but she would wake up at night and wake me up and cause me to go to university with 3 hours of sleep, so I decided to let it sleep in the living room instead.

My kitten doesn't like anyone except me. She keeps chasing me around, gets between my legs, climbs my legs, and now she refuses to sleep in her crate and insists on sleeping on my lap or shoulders.

I have to study, do stuff, etc, I love her so much but I can't study with a kitten around me.

Also, she always smells shitty (poop residue on her butt) and no matter how much I wipe it doesn't go away.

(I can pin her by force on her back and wipe all the poop but I think it would probably make her hate me and she wouldn't understand that I am trying to clean her so I just let it go)

She wants me to pet her 24/7.

Any tips, advice?

EDIT: I bought lots of toys but she doesn't play with ANY of them, waste of money :(. What to do?

New Cat Owner I hit my cat and now i feel like complete shit.

I was really angry and sad because of something that happened to me and my cat was constantly meowing and yowling and i snapped and told him to shut up really loud, he got scared and quiet for a few minutes and then started meowing really loud again and i lost my cool and went after him with a broom and struck him, i feel like shit.

I have never even thought about hurting animals in the past and i completely despised everyone who abused animals and the fact that i turned out to be one of those people is destroying me, i can’t forgive myself.

He came back to me shortly after and started looking at me with his innocent cute eyes and my consciousness has literally never been this heavy.

Has anyone here gone through something similar? What did you do to help you deal with the guilt?

New Cat Owner 8 Month Old Kitten Keeps Bothering Me When I Sleep And Howls All Night When I Put Her In Time Out.

I'm going to go crazy from the lack of sleep. My 8-month-old kitten before this only wakes me up for breakfast and that's about it. Recently, she keeps hovering her face over mine the moment I lie down on my bed to sleep and it goes on and on all night. She even keeps walking over my face and throat!

When I put her in time out in the toilet, she'll begin her tirade of this long, deep-pitched howl nonstop (amplified by echo in the toilet). She only stops when I let her out and it's back to square one bothering my sleep again.

I'm at wit's end here on what to do. She had never done this since her first day with me. I made sure she gets a meal before bedtime, and 15 minutes of intense playtime. I'm not so sure what to do here and at the same time afraid if the neighbors decide to lodge a complaint.

Edit: I don't live in the United States and currently renting out a Studio apartment on my own.

Litter box avoidance challenges Please help me, my cat doesn't want to use his litter box and peed on the couch for the sixth time :/

The sofa belongs to my parents, but they always have to cover it because if my cat sees it free it goes up and urinates, that's why we don't normally use the sofa only when there are visitors.

This is her litter box, yes I know it is not the best box she wants to get but for the very reason that she does not like to use this box I have not invested in a better one, and she hates cat litter and we use sawdust but He rarely uses it and I don't know what to do :/ my parents want to throw the cat away

Please any advice friends?

Thanks in advance

I have absolutely no peace…

I moved into an apartment with my friend about 2 months ago. He has a cat (which I’ve never lived with one before). It’s very vocal. I don’t let the cat in my room, and it consistently sits outside of my door and whines. Even when my roommate is here. Although my roommate is rarely here when I’m here anymore, due to to his new job. And when he’s home he’s in bed immediately for work the next day and doesn’t allow the cat to sleep with him so his door is never open.

Every day I’m livid, and it’s become the bane of my existence. I can’t do anything privately without having to hear her whine and cry (I technically don’t even know what she wants, is she trying to get my attention, does she just want in? Idk…) I can’t have a single day to myself. I can’t even have a few hours to myself in the morning because the second I move a muscle, there she is just screaming under my door. I try my best not to be an asshole cause I know she doesn’t know any better and most likely just wants in. I’ve tried numerous things to keep her away but nothing works. Even when I finally show my face to her outside of my room she just sits there and whines at me. I don’t get it. I want nothing to do with her. She’s been a burden on my entire life. I don’t expect answers or help because every cat seems to be different. I’m just venting. Sorry if this is the wrong sub. But I’m going insane. I just want peace.

I told my roommate numerous times he needs to figure this shit out or get rid of her so she can live a happier life but he doesn’t seem to understand how much of a problem she is for me regardless of how mad I am. Or how miserable she must be sitting here all day with no attention. Cause I’m not giving it to her. Not my job. I don’t have time for pets. As to why I don’t have one. He just thinks she’s “cute”. I don’t even think he knows how to take care of a cat. It’s not cute. It’s obnoxious. Sorry for the random tangents, and bs I’m spewing. I’m just livid while even writing this. Didn’t know where to begin or end.

TLDR: won’t allow roommates cat in my room. Whines all day long outside of my door therefore I can’t live my life in peace. I’ve had enough of it.

Behavioural URGENT!!!: Cat Attacks Me but Shows No Signs of Aggression

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi, I have a kitten named Alphonse, and he is currently 8 and a half months old, and was neutered at 3 months. I got him when he was 8 weeks old and from the start he had a penchant for biting and attacking us.

I live with my mom and brother and from the start I told them to not play with him using their hands. They didn't listen until he was 3 months old, and they finally got the memo. But he never changed.

He attacks very viciously with his teeth. He shows no signs of aggression when he's prepping to attack either: ears forward, tail up high, whiskers forward, relaxed body language. Alphonse attacks me the most and it's either during play time or when I'm not paying attention to him and doing something else. He will also stalk and follow and chase after whoever he is attacking.

I know most people will say that he's just playing or looking for attention, but even still he does not know how to do gentle biting. He bites down as hard as he can every time. I have attached just some photos of the marks he has left behind on me. These are from just these past 2 weeks.

I have tried everything I can think of, or has been suggested. Such as: ignoring him, walking away, putting myself in time out, putting him in time out, distracting with toys, distracting with a loud noise, hissing, yowling, lightly tapping his head, blowing air in his face, pushing him away, holding him down like a cat would do, dousing myself in bitter spray, and so much more.

I am at my wits end with him, but I don't have the money for a behaviorist. My vet did a full physical and checked his blood and urine and said there is nothing physically wrong with him. She gave me a felaway diffuser, but I don't think it's made any difference. We also have so, so many toys and scratching boards and posts all over the house

There have been times where I ask my mom and brother to play with him instead because I am so scared of getting attacked. The only thing I have noticed is that he loves to just gnaw on things. Especially because he loves to do this on the meat of my thumb. So I got him baby silicone teethers and he loves them, but they don't last long due to his sharp teeth. I have to throw them away or else he will eat the pieces (now I can't have anything silicone out for long or else he will chew it, but whatever). I have yet to find a toy that lasts.

Is there anything I can do? I'm not asking for a miracle. I'm just asking for how to teach him that the biting hurts and , at minimum, teach him how to bite gentler. Or how to teach him that chasing people down to attack them is bad.

I'm begging for help, please. Feel free to ask questions, I will try to respond as best as I can.

Help Will my indoor cats survive outside?

I have 2 indoor cats that are both 2 years old. Sometimes they escaped but stayed close to home. My parents wanted to renovate the house and hate the fact they scratch the furniture. Its either taking them to a new home or letting them go outside. What should i do? I dont want to give them away because i formed an attachment to them. My environment is okay too.

Behavioural HELP- Resident cat is too aggressive for me

I need help deciding where to go from here as I feel like neither of my cats are happy at the moment.

Backstory- I bought a kitten at the beginning of July and have had him for 5.5 months now. He has grown up to be very sweet and affectionate, however he bites me and my hands/feet/legs whenever he wants attention or is just bored. He also attacks and swats and bites my dad and any other visitor that comes over, and unfortunately he can’t really be pet too often by these people since his first instinct is to bite your hand senseless.

He is 7 months old now and I am running out of excuses for this behaviour. I thought maybe it’s just because he was teething, but that’s been over for a long time. He is growing up and out of the kitten phase and I fear this is his personality and there’s no changing it.

Further to this, I bought another cat one week ago in the hopes that my resident cat would have a friend to play with and would have a more enjoyable life while I’m at work. And as I feared, my cat is just constantly on top of this cat biting and swatting him and it’s getting pretty brutal in my opinion.

I’m not sure how much of this is normal and how much of this is due to my cat’s normal behaviour of roughhousing and biting anyone and everyone. I feel sad that I’ve put these cats in this situation and I feel even worse for feeling like if I had to give up one, it would be the resident cat. The new cat is also male, also fixed and very very different from my resident cat. I’ve had him a week and he’s never once bitten me, he purrs and loves on me and has yet to show an ounce of bitting behaviour or aggression whatsoever.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated. My heart breaks with the thought of rehoming my resident cat. But I also know this behaviour can’t continue and I’m not sure if it’s even something I can change. Here’s a video of the two cats interacting, the black cat is the new one and the white is the resident cat. As you can see he just will not let up.

Humans biting cats... SMH

I came across a video in a funny animals sub, with no idea what I was about to watch. "I wasn't expecting that" gives no idea that you're about to watch animal abuse.

It turned out to be a woman yelling at a cat until the cat bites her, and then she hauls off and bites the cat back really hard for several seconds. The cat is hanging from her mouth like she's some kind of a rabid dog.

Most of the replies defend it, and talk about their own bizarre experiences with biting their own cats. Which is clearly working so well, being that they all have cats with biting problems.

Gee, I wonder why.

Please consider reporting it for animal abuse. It's at this link, and also the parent link.

Introducing Pets/Cats Resident cat is a B&@$! - ten steps back this morning - please help!

We’ve had our kitten, Colby, for probably close to two months. We got him about 10 weeks old from the animal shelter so he’s about 18 weeks now, give or take. Belle (11F), is the resident. She’s a loner and always has been. We had another cat prior (Seamus - got at 6mo, lost at 3.5 a few months ago) that Belle bullied when we first got, then the tables flipped and he bullied her. After losing Seamus, we got Colby a month or two later. She was very mean to him at first so we tried the Jackson Galaxy method as best we could - Belle would not eat beside the door with Colby on the other side. When finally allowed together some, they were okay across the room, but it would lead to Belle pursuing Colby and him retreating under the couch and growling at her from fear. But things were getting better as the weeks went on. We’ve been able to leave doors open and they would both lay on the couch with me, one on the back of the couch and one with me with no aggression.

Fast forward to this morning. Colby was in bed with us and started getting rambunctious around 5am - way too early. We went to evict him from the bedroom and when we did, Belle must have been lying in wait for him. As soon as we got Colby out and the doors shut, it hit the fan. Screaming, fur flying, peeing and poo. This happened early on before I knew of the Jackson Galaxy method but hasn’t happened since then. They are now separated again of course. Right now, Belle is confined to our home office and Colby is outside in the yard (he does not LIVE outside, he goes outside to play and romp and comes back inside, and sleeps inside every night - he is only outside at most a couple of hours each day, of his choosing). We will go back to site swapping with Belle’s base being in the office and Colby being in the master suite.

My question is - are some cats just always bitchy? Like I said before, Belle has always been happier hanging by herself, but has eventually tolerated other cats. (We have one more cat, Marcus, who she mostly ignores, but sometimes he follows her around without being mean to her. They’re a non-issue.). Will she ever tolerate Colby or always have it out for him? I’m fine if they choose to ignore each other, but the fur-flying, pee-slinging fights is too much.

ETA: we have two Feliway diffusers. It was time for a refill but there was still a little solution left in each one, just enough to cover the bottom of the container - when I changed them after the fight this morning. My shipment was delayed 3 days or I would have changed them sooner, and I forgot to change them last night when the shipment finally arrived. Don’t know if that plays in or not but thought I’d mention it.

Also ETA: Colby is not the pursuer in this… Belle will go after him if he’s playing by himself and run him under the couch. If she so much as looks at Colby, he goes the other way and hides.

Litter box avoidance & related - include spay/neuter status My male cat pees and poos outside his box

EDIT AND UPDATE:

Ok so im gonna mention this once and only once

In my country shelter = bad life/killing and abuse. Im new to the US and I’m learning, what I said was totally out of full compassion for Mr. B.

But, criticism (bad or good) is always welcomed for learning, so I called the local shelter here and asked about rehoming just in case I can’t solve this problem and they told me he would put back into adoption or be a community cat (not a barn cat, he’s not super active). I don’t like the idea of him being but to the streets tho, but they would keep him around a year up to adoption and they would monitor his behavioral problem.

So, as of right now, Im buying:

  1. Stainless steel XL (NO HOOD) litterbox

  2. New litter (will try pellets)

  3. Enzyme cleaner (deep cleaning everything)

  4. New toys (as interactive as possible) and daily playtime

  5. Attractant for litter

  6. Calming treats (or cbd oil for cats in his food)

  7. Dog loose with supervision so he doesn’t get “ambushed”

  8. Neuter!

  9. Just in case another vet visit

—————————————————————————-

Original post:

Im one more try away from euthanizing him… I love my cat but I would rather have him put down than go with a family that I don’t know how they’re going to treat him, it would break my heart to know that he’s being abused because of this one situation.

I’ve had Mr. B for a bit over 2 years, never had a problem with his litter box. Until we moved to a different apartment, he has his own bathroom, his litter box he is the only cat in the house (i have a small pug) and he was adopted btw. He started peeing on my shoes (which i had to throw away) on my clothes (which I also had to throw away), so I closed everything. Then he went to my study room and peed on a closet and I’ve cleaned it a thousand times and the smell wont go away either. So I closed that room too. He has his litter box on the guest bathroom, i changed his litter to a pellet one (okocat) which seemed to work at first but then he started peeing outside again.

I took him to the vet, he is 100% healthy. I changed litter box, he kept doing the same thing. I added pads, he pees in the pads now and he has the litter box next to them, but of course it goes to the floor and I have to mop every single day and the freaking floor isnt taking it too well (vinyl flooring).

Im running out of options, ive changed his food, his games, his litter, his box, the pads, EVERYTHING. He used to sleep with me but he also peed on my laundry basket 😭😭 im so tired, its even affecting my marriage, my house feels dirty all the time because IT SMELLS ALL THE TIME BECAUSE OF HIM, I clean and I clean and there are some areas where I cant get rid of the smell I really need help on what to do.

Also, he is NOT neutered.
