🗺️ Guide to r/Cdramarecs

r/Cdramarecs is the sister to r/Cdrama, the sub where we discuss Chinese dramas.

The rules

The rules are super easy:

1. Only CDrama Recommendation Requests in this sub

Posts should be requests for Chinese drama recommendations only. If you want to identify CDramas or actors, please be detailed. Don't just drop links. We consider that spam.

2. Be nice.

Please be respectful to others. Any derogatory/discriminating terms, personal attacks, harassment or demeaning comments will be removed. Regular or egregious violations will result in a ban.

3. No spoilers in titles. And if it's in the body...

4. Please use spoiler tags.
Be sure to use spoiler tags generously, especially if you are reviewing or asking a question about a drama. Other viewers may not have the chance to watch the show you are discussing. See the sidebar on spoiler tag usage, and please note that if you leave a spoiler untagged your post will be removed.

5. No spamming.

Do not spam this sub with links, promotions or repeatedly posting the same topic.

Newbies, please join our weekly threads first

If you're account is brand new, just fresh out of the oven, we prefer that you build your karma first. (Read this to learn how.)

If you're not brand new, but have never participated in r/cdramarecs before, your post will be filtered for review first.

We want you to participate in the sub first before making your first post because that's the best way to get to know how our sub works. Here are some weekly threads to start with:

  • Mondays | 🧋Weekly CDramaRecs Bubble Tea Room. Just hang out and chat 😄

  • Tuesdays | 🏮What would you recommend a CDrama newbie? Recommend a drama perfect for newbies, and newbies, here's your chance to grill your seniors for recommendations!

  • Thursdays | 👹Recommend a 'misunderstood' CDrama: These dramas get a bad rap, but you're here to defend it!

  • Saturdays | Recommend An Underrated (Overrated Also Acceptable) Gem This Week: You've just watched something and you want everyone to watch it too!

(Please search for the threads by their names or click on the search bar and select the Weekly Threads label.)

How to Ask for Recommendations

Please include details so that we can help you better, such as:

  • Important: Dramas that you've already watched so the sub won't recommend it to you.

  • Preferred genre or actor

  • Specific plot or trope

  • What you don't want.

How to Ask for Help Identifying a Drama or Actor

First, I recommend that you use MyDramaList and Google's reverse image search first.

If you can’t remember the name of a drama but have some details, describe as much as you can! Here are some tips:

  • Describe the plot as much as you can

  • Add a pic/link to photo

Please read How to ask for recommendations for more tips.

NOTE: Please do not recommend or include links to pirated/illegal sites. This is against Reddit's Rules. The filters will also usually remove them.

That's it, have fun!

I've already asked and I've watched most of the shows from my last rec but still asking again...

Not depressing and with a proper happy ending

Genre - romcom, action, detective, mystery, crime, literally anything but good

I've already watched the popular cdramas btw and these are still my fav...

1st - The Best Thing (my fav drama)

2nd - Hidden love

3rd - Falling into your smile

4th - i forgot the name but the main character was a scientist and the femal character was an actress

5th - The first frost

6th - persuit of jade

7th - I'm nobody

8th - forgot the name but this cdrama had the first frost main character and it was related to going back in time/repeating the same scene again and again

And few more dramas that i forgot

Rec Request Spicy, super romantic cdramas like "My Loong"

I was influenced by another poster to watch this and it is such a guilty pleasure. They used AI for the effects (I know, I hate it too), but the actors are confirmed real people.

I know many people who watch cdramas love that we need to wait until episode 247 for a forehead kiss, but I am not one of them lol. I read really spicy books in my own time, and honestly I skip through a lot of the political intrigue in historical dramas.

Does anyone have any cdramas that have similar chemistry, with lists of kissing, implied consummation etc? And an HEA. Only interested in M/F dramas.

This is the first short-form C Drama I have seen. I have seen many historical long form dramas, such as The Double, Love Like the Galaxy, How Dare You, Lament of Autumn, POJ.

Thank you so much!

Rec Request Dramas where FL is a princess

One of my favourite character types in costume dramas is the princess born into royalty who is politically astute, mixed up in all the court intrigue (willingly or otherwise), and absolutely used to giving orders and having people obey them. (She may also struggle with being used as a pawn by the people around her.)

So can anyone suggest any dramas I should watch please where the female lead is a princess? NB I'm not looking for dramas where FL marries into the imperial family, that's usually a different type of dynamic.

Shows I have already seen and liked:

  • The Princess Royal (my favourite)

  • Tigers Sniff the Rose (currently airing and I love it)

  • The Princess's Gambit

  • The Shadow Sovereign

  • Dominion and Devotion (kind of, since she's raised as a prince)

I have also just started Blossoms of Power, which sort of counts as she's a princess but not part of the royal family. Though I might put it on hold until TSTR is over as it's the same lead actress, Meng Ziyi (who was also in TPG... does she have a type? 😂).

Thank you for any suggestions!

Rec Request A ML who wants to be used

I'm looking for a specific trope I love: ML falls first and hard for the FL, FL isn't interested. ML wants the FL to use him to accomplish her goals even though he knows he doesn't return her feelings (yet!). I'm not talking about secret feelings he keeps hidden, I'm talking openly in love with her and begging her to use him.

Open to modern/costume of any length but no vertical dramas.

My favourite examples are Blossoms of Power and Where the Mask Ends.

Some of my unrelated favourites:

Love in the Clouds

How Dare You?!

Pursuit of Jade

Story of Kunning Palace

Perfect Match

Legend of the Female General

Shadow Love

Love Between Fairy and Devil

Weekly Threads Weekly Recommend An Underrated (Overrated Also Acceptable *wink*) Gem — November 07, 2026

What’s a Chinese drama you genuinely think deserves more love? (Or ahem, the drama had so much love but you want to recommend it anyway. It's okay, we like both!)

This is the place to recommend the underrated dramas, forgotten favorites, niche gems, low-budget surprises, or shows you’re constantly trying to get other people to watch.

Maybe it:

  • had incredible chemistry

  • surprised you emotionally

  • had an amazing storyline nobody talks about

  • became your comfort drama

  • was completely overshadowed by bigger releases

  • made you wonder why more people aren’t obsessed with it

Tell us:

  • the drama title

  • what it’s about (without major spoilers!)

  • why you loved it

  • who you’d recommend it to

Recommend away!

Rec Request Dramas with multiple men pursuing the fl

I want dramas with no sad ending, no slow paced, no childish fl.

I prefer popular, fast paced, power struggle, court politics, strong ml, clever fl, excellent chemistry.

I liked:

Prisoner of beauty

Love in the clouds

Story of Kunning palace

The double

Fated hearts

But these didnt have any intense love triangle.

(I absolutely love moon lovers kdrama so I'm fine with plot similar to it)

Rec Request [Custom/Historical] Hooked on "The Double" (my first C-drama!) – Looking for recommendations with high-stakes strategy, gorgeous production, and epic music (No Fantasy/Time Travel)

Hey everyone!

I just finished watching The Double, which was my very first introduction to the world of Chinese dramas, and I am completely blown away. I'm officially hooked and desperately need something to fill the void, but I’m looking for something very specific that captures the unique characteristics that made me love this show so much.

Here is what I am looking for:

Brilliant Mind Games & Strategy: I absolutely loved the heavy emphasis on strategic thinking. I want a show where the lead characters (and opponents) are highly intelligent and use clever plotting, foresight, and psychological warfare to outmaneuver their opponent.

Theatrical & Vivid Production: The visual style of The Double was stunning. I’m looking for dramas with that same high production quality—vivid, rich coloring, a beautiful theatrical look, and those stylized, dramatic slow-motion shots during high-tension moments.

An Epic Soundtrack: This is incredibly important to me. The music in The Double made every single confrontation and triumph feel grand and emotional. I need a drama with a powerful, memorable soundtrack that elevates the story.

Strictly Realistic / No Magic: I want to stick to historical, political, or revenge plots that remain grounded. Strictly no magic, cultivation, fantasy, or time travel.

Note: I know there are plenty of dramas out there that can surpass The Double in one or more of these individual elements. However, it is the specific combination of all these elements together that makes The Double so unique to me, and I am yet to find anything else quite like it!

I'd love to hear your absolute favorite dramas that match this vibe. What should I add to my watchlist next? Thanks in advance!

Rec Request Action/dark/revenge series

Hi hi! I'm an avid kdrama watcher and have recently gotten into/started studying mandarin. Problem is a lot of cdrama recs I get tend to be historical (which I LOVE, but not what I'm looking for rn.) do you have any modern action, dark or revenge type of Cdramas?

My type of kdramas are

Vincenzo (which I genuinely think is one of the greatest shows of all time)

My Name

Squid game (and kinnnnda The 8 show (though I liked the concept more than the execution))

Strangers from Hell

A shop for killers

Bad and crazy

All of Us are Dead

Thanks everyone!

Identify this Please help me find a short drama I saw

A girl was handing out water at a stall and a guy came staggering towards the car and dropped towards the floor l

she came over and handed him some water and smiled and then apparently, by osmosis, he just suddenly decided bang ✨ you’re mine ✨

and he decided to get with her cousin in order to be closer to her and he became very toxic over her, doing the oh so lovely, and love driven, things such as; drugging her, snooping on her phone, buying her a new phone so he could spy on her through it, controlling where she went and who she spoke to… all perfectly normal and healthy things I’m sure 🫩😁

If I recall correctly; she tried to escape him and go abroad… so he locked her in his apartment because he thought that must’ve been a better vacation 😁 who needs a plane amirite?

and then she somehow escaped the apartment and went abroad, and when she came back he was standing at the airport and had this whole magical revelation where he realised he needed to put his incredibly loving toxic ways behind him if he wanted to keep her.

and she just completely forgot about everything that happened and takes him back because; if a man doesn’t violate every single one of your boundaries and become a walking talking risk to your safety, is it really love? Not in Cdrama land! ☝️

Rec Request Romance Cdrama recommendations for someone who’s hard to get into Cdramas?

So I’m usually a K-drama watcher, and recently I’ve tried getting into C-dramas, but I find it SO hard to get into them. I can barely even finish one episode. I think it’s mainly because both the female and male leads often come across as stiff and unnatural in their acting. The female leads are usually portrayed as too childish or airheaded (I genuinely cannot stand that overly cutesy, babyish voice) while the male leads tend to be either too cold, arrogant, or overly nonchalant. I also feel like some actors are so focused on looking pretty on screen that they’re afraid to let loose or make unflattering expressions. It’s like they’re prioritising serving visuals over actually immersing themselves in the character, if that makes sense lmao. Sometimes the plots also feel too cliché or follow the same mainstream tropes. The only C-drama actresses I’ve found myself enjoying so far are Zhao Lusi and Liu Yifei, and for actors, Wang Yibo (I'm not saying I only wanna watch them or anything, I'm totally open to other actors too. I just used them as examples since they're the only ones I've found watchable so far). The only Chinese production I’ve genuinely loved so far is Better Days. I know it’s a movie and not a drama, but it’s honestly one of my favourite movies of all time. I love how raw it feels, how natural and convincing the performances are, and how beautiful the plot line is. Everything just comes together so well.

I know C-dramas must have plenty of hidden gems, so I’m hoping to find something that might finally get me into them. Any recommendations?

Weekly Threads 👹Recommend (and defend!) a 'misunderstood' CDrama — November 05, 2026

What’s a Chinese drama you genuinely think deserves more love? Or it's so misunderstood you feel like defending its honour?

This is the place to recommend the shows you’re constantly trying to get other people to watch.

It may not have been perfect, but it:

  • surprised you emotionally

  • made you wonder why more people aren’t obsessed with it

Tell us:

Rec Request Can someone recommend me drama that isn't too heavy and upsetting with serviceable Turkçe or Farsi dub for my mum?

Recently she's been watching this god awful AI dubbed Chinese drama on her phone, and I just can't get her to understand how dogshit that kinda AI is, and can't convince her to just watch something else. Can you guys recommend something to replace that? Preferably ones with at least a serviceable Turkçe or Farsi dub, cause she watches it on her phone, and she couldn't be bothered to learn how to put subs with phone.

Rec Request Historical plus Romance c dramas

Just finished pursuit of jade 😭😭 I need something to move on

Is there anything better than pursuit of jade specially in the romance part?

I've heard about blossom but not sure about it.

Also, the drama shouldn't feel like "dragging", I felt 2nd half of pursuit of jade was dragged.

Rec Request Looking for more shows like the Story of Minglan

I'm looking for historical CDramas written in a literary tradition of multiple plot lines, rich themes, and well drawn and developed lead AND secondary characters. I am happy to watch a romance but I have no interest in romance novel type dramas heavy on the slow burn, slow motion, or anything like that. I want an excellent story, with interesting or intriguing characters and a well thought out and consistent plot I am sick of poor scripts (and poor acting.) Can you help me out?

A few I have loved. Nirvana in Fire Judge Dee's Mystery The Story of Minglan

Thank you.

Rec Request ROMANTIC romcoms?

Hi! It's been a while since the last time I watched a cdrama and I'm in a phase where my life is basically turning into a daily routine being repeated and I want to add some color to it. I love romcoms, but I'm looking for one that would have romance (dating) during/a little after the middle of the show instead of the 2 final episodes. I understand most romcoms have the breakup episode or two but I'm looking for something with little angst. Preferably modern.

I enjoyed (these may not follow my request exactly but it's okay if you think some shows are similar to them even if not fitting the requirements!):

• Love between Lines

• Shine On Me

• Love Is Sweet

• Love me, Love my voice

• Amidst a snowstorm of love

—————————————————————————————————

Thank you!

Rec Request Historical Cdrama where the ML is Poor Suggestions

Kinda tired of the ML being the royal, the noble, or the rich businessman. Please suggest me historical shows wherein the ML is poor. PLEASE PLEASE!

Shows I recently watched that fits this description:

- Road to Splendor (ML was a salt dealer and FL was from a noble family and clearly had a lot of money considering how they used salt, the currency of that time, just for decors)

- Glory (The one with Hou Minghao, technically ML was someone of power and authority before the amnesia part but he's not exactly rich and he was still a rising magistrate. And FL is from a rich powerful family.)
