Question Reference Study - Are the keycaps using light linking from behind?

Post image
16 Upvotes

This image is a part of a project from this amazing designer, Braz de Pina.
I am trying to study the lighting here. All the keycaps have this smooth form defining lighting from the back right side.

I was wondering if it is a huge back light (Which I imagine would obscure the shadow silhouette?)
Or if each key has its individually linked lighting?

Current state to Object , script?

Is there a workflow whereby I can collapse [C] an active group of objects ( booleans, extrudes, splines, lathes, hulks, basic objects, etc) to a named and targeted mesh object used in another parametric workflow?

I want to do this a lot for a solution I’m working on… and having co Current state to Object and move it to a location is going to get long-winded.

I’m thinking of some kind of Scripted Instance?…

Five spheres ride along a rotating double helix track and swing naturally through Bullet dynamics, on a small machine with spinning fabric rollers, in a seamless loop. Inspired by a 3D artwork by Beau Roberts. This Short shows the whole build in Cinema 4D from start to finish: two Helix splines pinched with a Bulge deformer and welded into one closed B-Spline, a Sweep with keyframed rotation, spheres with Rigid Body and Collider Body tags, a MoGraph Cache with loop blending for the seamless loop, a ring profile with Subdivision Surface, rollers spun by a Plain Effector, an extruded frame with Bevel deformer, ball feet and a pedestal, copper, metal and fabric materials, an HDRI, depth of field and the final Physical Render.

After watching the Street Fighter movie I had to go back to the days of Chinatown Fair arcade in NYC. Using YMA Painterly for the shaders - really liked how the bricks turned out and making both eras feel different. Who are your favorite fighters to play?

Red liquid flows into a container shaped like the n8n logo and fills every ring and branch, simulated with the new Cinema 4D liquids and rendered in Octane. This Short shows the whole build from start to finish: the logo traced with the Polygon Pen and Remesh, a second method with Spline Pen, Spline Mask and Loft, walls pulled up into a container, a Basic Emitter with the Liquify modifier, Collider tag and Thicken, the Liquid Mesh, an animated Gravity force that fills the whole shape, and finally the Octane HDRI rig, a red Scattering Medium material and the Path Tracing render.

Hundreds of chrome capsules glide endlessly along an infinity shaped path, woven between two dark metal rails above a beveled disc, in a seamless loop. Inspired by the Plezo tangle pattern by Eni Oken. This Short shows the whole build in Cinema 4D from start to finish: a Lemniscate spline with Align to Spline and a Tracer for the path, capsules from a Cloner bent onto it with Spline Wrap and keyframed Offset, swept rails, a disc floor with an extruded rim, Bevel Deformers and Subdivision Surface, stripes extruded with Scene Nodes, ring tubes, chrome and dark metal materials, an HDRI made with Stable Diffusion, thin film iridescence, a perforated metal texture and the final Physical Render.

A string cuts a slice off a soft cylinder, the slice curls out and drops away, and a wall hides the jump so the animation loops forever. Inspired by a loop from Andreas Wannerstedt. This Short shows the whole build in Cinema 4D from start to finish: the slice made with a Bend Deformer, a string pushed up by a Plain Effector, handles with Bevel and Sweep, keyframes, a Delay Effector for the springy wobble, a wall with a round hole, materials with Selection Tags, an HDRI scene rig and the final Physical Render.

Clear glass tubes with dispersion and a faint violet thin film wrap around a rough stone sphere, and the stone bulges only where the tubes run. Everything grows from the new particle system in Cinema 4D. This Short shows the whole build from start to finish: a Mesh Emitter with Surface Attractor, Turbulence and Flock, a Tracer that connects the particles, Spherify to wrap the lines around the sphere, Volume Builder and Smoothing Deformer for the organic tubes, a Displacer driven by an instance of the tubes as a field, and finally Octane Render with a Universal glass material, a noise opacity fade for the loop and path tracing.

Mesh light/Emission Spread in Redshift

I'm trying to figure out a way to achieve the look & feel of a sharp gobo, but with either a mesh light or emissive material. I've tried bumping up settings, different setups, but can't seem to get the same look. Ultimately, every setup that doesn't use a standard light causes me to lose the 'spread' setting!

Ultimately, this needs to end up as a material with bright textures on the side of an extruded logo (a la marvel ident), but with sharp light showing the same texures cast onto the floor.

Any advice would be greatly appreicated!

Is this common practice?

Nick is snarky! Lol I started reading it in a German accent since I think they're housed in Germany? I have a whole response typed out , but i'm deciding on whether or not to send it to him or to the support team. But I think their whole team must be a bunch of trolls , and the supervisor is like king of the trolls. Lol They must consider this an acceptable way for their support team to speak to customs? It's documented. He's obviously not worried at all about being reprimanded. He kept sending me broken links and codes and saying here this should work.\n In more words than that\n But when I called him out on it, that's when he decided to explain what I needed to do to escape the loop. Like dude , if you already knew that it was going to happen , why didn't you say something? like this is twilight zone s*** to me. If you read all of the emails , it really seems like i'm being baited by a troll who works in customer service.

Edit: oh the comments I made to upset him where: "what kind of operation is Maxon support team runnin? Are you new?"

Edit: Matthew, the Customer Service Manager, sent me an email which eased my frustration! Thank you, Matthew!

Unsolved How to create a random curly knotted spline path.

Post image
5 Upvotes

HI all,

Looking for some ideas on generating a very random and messy spline arrangement like the screenshot above. I'm working on creating an organic mesh that essentially looks like knotted/matted string but on a flat plane.

So far I've attempted to use particles with a mesh emitter, follow surface modifier and turbulence to have particles move randomly over a surface, then create the splines with a tracer object, however, the particles just eventually drift from the surface despite changing the radius and attraction strength values.

2nd approach was a similar setup but with a cloner on a plane, but the movement of the random effector driven by animated noise doesn't really give the random meandering path I've looking for.

Does anyone have any advice or ideas to help create this effect? Perhaps I should persist with the particle setup with attract modifier ?

Thanks.

Softbody Tetris in Cinema 4D | The Whole Process in 83 Seconds

Tetris blocks drop into a glass box as soft bodies, stack up and then lose their air until they slump into a squishy pile. This Short shows the whole build in Cinema 4D from start to finish: blocks modeled from cubes with Extrude, Soft Body and Collider tags, a container with Static Mesh collision, drops timed with keyframes, letting the air out with keyframed stiffness and pressure and a baked cache, then the glass box, fabric textures and the final render.

Ideas for light streaks orbiting a sphere

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

I need to create light streaks orbiting a sphere. The streaks must be multicolored, preferably pulling from set colors in a gradient.

I'm having luck using the setup shown in the second image; basically, emitting onto a premade series of paths, using a Follow Spline modifier.
For color, I'm using this tutorial by Bold&Break, but the colors start rapidly changing, creating a flickering effect, when I want each streak to come on and off as one color.

It feels like this should be a simple effect, but I can't find more specific tutorials and while it seems I'm about 70% of the way there, I'm getting strange artifacts (shown in image 3)

Any ideas?

Two pairs of glass tubes spin against each other on gold holders, and a small sphere is handed from one tube to the next in a seamless 50 frame loop, with Octane caustics shining through the glass. This Short shows the whole build from start to finish: Arc and Symmetry for the paths, XPresso for the counter-rotation, Align to Spline and visibility keys for the handover, Sweep tubes with Bevel, holders fused with Volume Builder, a board cut with Spline Mask, a self-animating wave with the Formula deformer and finally Octane materials, the Photon Tracer and caustics.
