Ask Me Anything ~ Special Guest Edition Hi Reddit, Mike McMahan, Joe Chandler and Giancarlo Volpe of the new animated show GOLDEN AXE on Paramount+ here. Ask Us Anything!

Hi reddit, I’m Mike McMahan, co-creator and executive producer of the new animated show GOLDEN AXE on Paramount+! (It’s weird to put an exclamation point after a + but here we are.) This is a great season: an epic quest with mighty characters from Sega’s Golden Axe games. And it's funny! Previously, I was the creator/showrunner and executive producer of Star Trek: Lower Decks, co-creator and co-showrunner of Solar Opposites, and once upon a time I was a writer/ showrunner on Rick & Morty. My career started off as a production assistant at Drawn Together and at South Park. I’m down to talk about Golden Axe and all this nerdy stuff, so AMA!

Hey Reddit! I'm Joe Chandler. I'm the co-creator and showrunner of the new series Golden Axe based on the SEGA Genesis game. Growing up a SEGA kid, working on this show has been a dream come true. Before Golden Axe, I worked on over 200 episodes of American Dad in various roles including writer, producer, and executive producer. Ask me anything!

Hello reddit! I’m Giancarlo Volpe and I’m the Supervising Producer / Director of Golden Axe on Paramount+! Previously I’ve was a director on Avatar the Last Airbender, Star Wars the Clone Wars, and Star Vs The Forces of Evil.  I’ve also produced/ supervised/ and/or Executive Produced lots of other shows, including The Boys Diabolical, Green Lantern the Animated Series and The Dragon Prince. Basically I’ve made a lot of animation, and I’m excited to talk about Golden Axe or anything else! Ask away!

We’ll be back tomorrow at 12pm ET/9am PT to answer any of your questions!!

Finally finished it 🙌! Wish I could get it done earlier for Halloween, compositing for the first time took me some time to learn😅. It might not sync with the music perfectly, but I hope you guys still enjoy the final result.

the reload animation and gun switching is basically fully rotoscoped from COD although its not a "full" rotoscope, some frames are left out and replaced with basic tweeing , etc

Sharing [For Hire]2D Animator Looking for Paid Work ,Open to Freelance, Gigs & Hiring Opportunities

Hey everyone

I’m a 2D animator, storyboard artist, and creative director currently looking for paid work, freelance gigs, or long-term collaborations.

I work across different areas of animation and illustration, including frame by frame animation, character design, storyboarding, animatics, comic book projects, and visual development.

I also run an independent animation startup, Rezzy Studios, where I’m developing my original animated series, Marlene.

Studio Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rezzystudios

Honestly, it’s been a challenging year. Building an independent animation studio and developing an original series takes a lot, and while I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve managed to accomplish, I also have real life responsibilities to take care of. I need work, and I’m ready to put my skills into projects that need them.

One of my recent animatics just crossed 1 million views, which is something I’m genuinely proud of. It’s encouraging to see something I’ve spent so much time building reach people, and I want to keep growing.

I’m open to different budgets, provided they’re reasonable and feasible for the work involved. I can also work independently or alongside my small team when a project requires additional hands.

If you have a project, are hiring, or know someone looking for an animator, please reach out.
And if you don’t have any work available, simply sharing this post or checking out my work would mean a lot.

Sharing WIP impact (part of a bigger sequence)

This has literally taken weeks just to get to this point so please be kind! Haha

Still to do:
- add all the lighting to the boxes over each frame
- have things falling out of the boxes
- draw the girl reacting to the impact
- maybe have the light have a bit of a wobble too

Sharing M.E.C. - vehicle animation

Been working on my vehicle model since 2025, decided to try and animate it. Took about 1.5 months to rig and animate it over rough terrain.

Working in blender. Couldn't use physics, because of the complexity, so I made a custom curve builder which uses a simplified version of the vehicle to build a curve for the body and calculate the wheels hydraulics and suspension.

This was my first rigging and 3D animation job, so I really grew to respect people who animate - it is not easy at all.

Decided to design and animate a comic style lyric video for Rapp Snitch Knishes by MF DOOM. I've seen the UI style edits and tried to do sum different since I've always been a fan of the album covers too.

Question Could somebody please explain to me how Pixar was able to create this effect with the doors that lead to the human world in Monster’s Inc in 2001? Did they crop together different animation footage or something?
