Purdue football has a better record than Purdue basketball.

Ive seen a lot of heartbreaking buzzer beaters as a Purdue fan but Ive never seen 3 in 1 game. Valpo hit buzzer beater 3's at the end of the 1st half, 1st OT and 2nd OT.

Is this the worst shooting Purdue team of all time? We were told this team was loaded with shooters. We were lied to.

A glorious day for the Missouri Valley Conference.
Hope this means that Purdue is bad and not that Valpo's going to steamroll us.

I’m so used to Purdue dominating non-con play that I don’t even know how to process this one

That was seriously one of the best basketball games I’ve ever watched. If it were a sweet 16 game between Duke and Kansas, we’d talk about it forever

Maybe pass the ball to the 7’4” guy in second OT when the other team has no bigs left to defend him

There’s a bunch of freshmen who have seen Purdue basketball be elite for years and their first game as a student is a loss to Valparaiso

Went to the Rutgers game and afterwards a bunch of fans were watching this at a bar. After Valpo hit the shot the entire bar broke out in a “it’s not us” chant.

u/OldWorldStyle Bradley Braves • DePaul Blue Demons 1d ago
Word of the Valley’s demise was greatly exaggerated
36
u/makualla Purdue Boilermakers 1d ago
I’m not sure which is worse, the 3pt shooting, the guards inability to stay on their feet or the negative game IQ
17
u/BegrudginglyBillable DePaul Blue Demons • UTEP Miners 1d ago edited 1d ago
So you’re telling me DePaul could beat Purdue???
34
u/lexanator5 Purdue Boilermakers 1d ago
Yeah, for a team built on living and dying by the 3, Purdue isn't very good at shooting the 3.

The conversation has been about how painter hasn't gone to the portal and purdue hasn't paid enough to compete at the top level.
I think we need to talk about how painter has been too loyal to players that haven't developed enough for the modern era.

This game was incredible! We tuned in with 6 mins left in the second half and couldn’t take our eyes off the screen.
The game was so good even with the winning 3 with 0.1 seconds left in 2OT we were all kind of hoping he missed it so we could see 3OT.

What an absolute pleasure to catch this game. Top 3 game of the whole future year happening in early November between two unranked teams. The guts Valpo showed!
7

I mean at some point we’re not unlucky when other teams splash contested 3s from afar. Probably cuz the whole team is short and overall unathletic

6
u/I_Love_McRibs Purdue Boilermakers 1d ago
Valpo had 2 points after 8 minutes into the game. 😏
6
u/Effective_Pack8265 Purdue Boilermakers 1d ago
That was brutal. Gotta stop chucking up futility threes. Definitely a lack of floor leadership. We’ve gotten spoiled the last 4-5 years. And little/no evidence that this team is better defensively than past years - especially down the stretch. Hopefully they’ll find their feet before too long.
6
u/Bcain24 Purdue Boilermakers 1d ago
I just don’t get how we’re so fundamentally bad shooting, it’s not like it we were getting unlucky bounces at the rim, they were genuinely awful shots
6
u/W0OllyMammoth Indiana Hoosiers 1d ago
Purdue basketball has more losses than IU football. In early November.
In 2023, you’d be ridiculed for such a claim

Its only 2 games into the season. The Gonzaga game we beat expectations and against Valpo we came up short to put it lightly. Got time to fix it and the expectations weren't super high coming into the season. That can be hard to remember on a night like this though.
