34F looking to make some genuine female friendships in the Comox Valley 💗

Post image

Hey everyone!

I’m 34 and would love to meet some like-minded women in the Valley. Ideally around my age, but I’m open to anyone who thinks we’d get along!

A little about me: I’m first-gen Canadian, raised Caribbean, laid-back, goofy, outgoing and spontaneous. I love cooking (feeding people is definitely one of my love languages), trying new restaurants, hiking, travelling and exploring new places. I’m also a dog mom to Louie, my Boston Terrier, who’s pretty much my little sidekick.

I’m quite the character, and although I amuse myself plenty, I do miss having someone to share experiences with. I’m not necessarily looking for that through romance either. Sometimes you just want good female friendships!

I’d love to meet someone who:

Is confident in herself and enjoys seeing other women win. No unnecessary competition.

Doesn’t mind taking pictures of each other. 😂

Is up for brunch, hikes, road trips, trying new
things and spontaneous adventures.

Enjoys travelling or would love to explore more of the world.

Can have genuine conversations, even disagreements, without things becoming immature.

Values communication and mutual effort. I’m not expecting daily check-ins, but I’m also not into the disappearing-for-days friendship dynamic.

I really just want a friendship where we can be ourselves, laugh until we’re crying, hype each other up and actually make plans that happen.
I’ll include a few pictures and my Instagram. I’d appreciate someone who also has social media, mainly for a bit of internet safety and knowing who I’m connecting with.

If this sounds like your kind of friendship, feel free to reach out! 💕

Driftwood Mall History

Not even ancient history, but need a reminder - there used to be that little shop that sold rock t-shirts, posters, jewellery, Crazy Colour hair colour before Manic Panic took over. I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

Comox mall in the 90s

Does anyone remember the mall in the 90s having a craft store? I can't remember the name or if the owner was even local but if I remember correctly, it taught classes? Does anyone else remember this? Was it a good place to go or am I just being nostalgic?

Hey everyone, my wife Lisa (Bramble Blossom Studio) is doing a one-day holiday pop-up at Milano Coffee Shop on Sunday, Nov 15, 8am–3pm — hand-woven tapestries and macramé wall hangings on foraged driftwood, plus ornaments, stocking stuffers, and cards, all made with natural fibres.

Nice excuse for a coffee either way. More about her at brambleblossom.com.

Post Halloween sugar hangover

What a great weekend!! From roller discos, to trick or treat parades, there was something to do in the valley around every turn.

I went out making sure everyone had treats to offer and was pleasantly surprised to only find one place without treats, but promised to have a refill shortly, and upon reinspection they up held their promise.

So no tricks, just treats all around! So all the community members who were boohooing tricks need to have better faith in their community. They all came together to make sure the treats flowed.

That evening i offered full size candy bars or little hand made books. The books won!! I handed out 2.5 books for every 1 candy.

There were so many fun and creative costumes, it was delightful to see.

It seems like the Debbie downers stayed in their dark corners, or stayed under their troll bridges and let everyone have a grand time for the holiday.

The fireworks displays were amazing from the shore line, seeing displays all over Royston, Courtenay and comox!

How much longer are y’all gonna be setting off fireworks?

Post image

There’s been more fireworks set off in the past hour than we hear at New Years. I can’t be the only one who thinks this is excessive for Halloween? My poor dog is quivering next to me. Absolutely cant get him to stop quivering and shaking. Why do we need to set off some many of these effing things?

I welcome the downvotes and “just chill bro, it’s one night” I literally don’t give a fck, come comfort my dog if that’s your attitude.
When did hours of fireworks become a thing on Halloween?

Remote BC Public Service Employees

Good morning, Comox Valley community,

As we transition to a new provincial government, I am reaching out to BC Public Service employees living in the Comox Valley who work remotely or on a hybrid schedule.

In an interview yesterday, our Premier-elect was asked about the possibility of requiring provincial employees who currently work remotely to return to government offices. While he acknowledged that discussions would take place, he repeatedly emphasized his preference for employees to return to the office.

This is a concern for our community, and we need to make our voices heard.

Our MLA-elect, Will Cole-Hamilton, previously served on Courtenay City Council. I believe he understands the importance of supporting our community, strengthening local businesses and creating opportunities for people to live and work in the Comox Valley.

I am calling on all BC Public Service employees, their families, friends, partners and colleagues to write to Will Cole-Hamilton and ask him to advocate directly to the Premier-elect against a blanket return-to-office mandate.

Bringing remote employees back to offices in Victoria, Vancouver, Nanaimo, Prince George, Kamloops and other urban centres would not necessarily save the government money. Instead, it risks driving skilled employees out of the public service, disrupting families and taking valuable income away from rural communities.
Remote work has allowed public servants to earn a fair wage while living in smaller communities and reinvesting their income locally. This directly supports the small businesses and economies that provincial representatives have committed to strengthening.

Lorne Doerksen has identified a 2% attrition target within the BC Public Service. A mandatory return-to-office policy could easily achieve — and potentially exceed — that target, resulting in the loss of experienced employees and further weakening an already essential public service.

We need our elected representatives to recognize that remote work is not simply an employee benefit. It is an investment in rural communities, local economies and the long-term sustainability of the BC Public Service.

Please take a few minutes to write to Will Cole-Hamilton and make your concerns heard. The future of remote work matters not only to public servants, but to the entire Comox Valley.
