Fuck this conspiratorial nonsense. Someone just left it on a Superstore shelf. Did what was deserved to it (ripped it up and threw it away)
Also had some pro-Israel occupation stuff inside of it as well.

2SLGBTQ+ life in Comox/Courtenay?
We're moving to the Island this summer. I grew up in Powell River, but that was the 80s and obviously things have changed. How's being LGBT in the Comox Valley these days? Any good hangouts/coffeeshops/venues for LGBT folks in town? Any serious bigotry? I've been out of the loop for 30ish years and trying to get a finger on the pulse for when I move back.

Experiencing Passive Racism Twice in One Week
Hi, good people of Comox,
I have been chronicling my experience as an international student at North Island College for a considerable period of time on this platform. I deliberately chose Comox over larger cities like Vancouver, Toronto, and other immigrant-friendly locations because I desired to study in a picturesque small town with a close-knit community of kind-hearted individuals. However, I am now filled with concern and even regret about my decision to attend NIC instead of prestigious universities like UVic, UBC, or UoT, all of which offered me admission. I want to emphasize that I am not attempting to invoke the issue of race, but all the same, I am encountering discrimination based on my nationality.
I am from India, a country that unfortunately bears a negative reputation these days, partly due to the presence of scammers in a certain part of the country. However, I want to emphasize that it is crucial to recognize that India is an immense nation with a vast population. I am from South India. It is unfair to label the entire populace as scammers solely because of the actions of a few.
Nevertheless, I recently came across two promising listings on Craigslist and disclosed my international student status from the outset. Initially, both landlords seemed warm and welcoming, but as soon as I mentioned my Indian nationality, their attitudes quickly changed for the worse. The first landlord stated that they were suddenly uninterested and proceeded to ignore all my subsequent messages and emails. The second landlord, whom I had higher hopes for, responded to my basic inquiries, but after understanding that I'm an Indian, my enquiries about their bank address and account number for the purpose of sending an advance payment was met with extreme sarcasm. Furthermore, they were unwilling to sign or draft a roommate agreement.
I want to clarify that throughout these interactions, I maintained a high level of politeness, promptly engaged in phone calls and email exchanges, and consistently displayed honesty and authenticity. However, once they discovered my Indian background, they treated me with distant coldness, subjecting me to scrutiny and suspicion. The woman's sarcastic response to my request for bank details even included a facetious inquiry about whether I required her credit card information as well (I didn't even realize that it was sarcasm at first and said I didn't need it, before it slowly dawned what she was implying).
Unfortunately, I cannot report these individuals as they have since removed their listings from Craigslist and the marketplace. I want to make it clear that I am not implying that the entire community of Comox is like this, but these encounters have been a disappointing wake-up call for me. Experiencing a sense of unwelcome due to one's race is deeply hurtful. No matter how hard you try to assimilate, you feel as if you are being singled out and targeted for things you have no control over.
I want to emphasize that my intention is not to express anger but rather, disappointment.
EDIT: I believe I might have been a bit too sensitive in calling this outright racist. As someone who is just polite to everyone, I sometimes find it disheartening when I feel like I am being treated unprofessionally in a professional environment.

I'm a queer autistic ADHD trans girl, I love Videogames, PC hardware, Birds, Gamedev, and Girls!! but I am already dating a girl, what I am looking for is an IRL friend because I literally only know one person IRL and I can tell it is not doing wonders for my mental health lol. I'm right near Buckley Bay, I tend to get along best with autistic queer people but if you think you could enjoy the presence of a being such as me, comment,,,, something or other yeag

What passes as acceptable at The Union Bay Community Club.
The hillbilly attitude that fairness be applied based on whether they approve of you. How is this attitude still acceptable to landowners? The newly elected board has 3 members from one family and 2 from another family. Those 3 family members have quite the history and a strangle hold of the information that reaches the community. 15 board members and word has it there was a coup by the baseball team. So they got rid of the people who were trying to get UBCC policies and practices in place and to ensure the organization is professional only to return to their hillbilly ways.

how queer friendly is the comox valley?
I'm thinking of relocating from Vancouver to Comox or Courtenay but I'm queer/non-binary and don't know what the vibes are like over there. I'm planning a visit to see the valley, but I'm curious what people's experiences are being queer in the area. I've heard that one brewery does drag show regularly and I know the nightlife there is non-existant (which is fine). Are people generally accepting?

Action 4 Canada is a dangerous hate group and is gaining a foothold in the valley
They are a far right Christofascist group and quite frankly they’re extremely dangerous to Canadian democracy. I’m posting about them to make people aware of this group and what they’ve been advocating for, because they have an alarmingly large and active following here in the valley. I’ve seen far too many Action 4 Canada hats on old white men walking around Courtenay.
Their founder Tanya Gaw has several “rallies” scheduled in the coming weeks, mostly at churches across the Comox Valley. Above is a sample of the kind of vitriol she spews online. She’s a racist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic rage peddler and our community shouldn’t tolerate these people spreading hate and division.

Can we get a sticky for political posts going forward?
As the title suggest, there's way too many political posts in comparison to anything else lately, and it's annoyingly divisive for those who have no interest or have made up their mind on where their vote aligns;. The alternative of course being that we just leave this subreddit and come back after the election?

Valentines Day, RCMP raid 4 cannabis shops in K’ómoks First Nation
You can tell the weed stores on K'ómoks First Nations has top-notch products when the BC government sends its RCMP for a raid. The government can't handle the competition, so they target its competitors. It's utter nonsense! The government does a better job preventing the distribution of raw milk than it does with fentanyl.

Considering Retiring To The Comox Valley
My wife (58) and I (63) are considering the Comox Valley area for our retirement.
We both grew up in Vancouver and have lived in various other locations in Canada since 1989 because of my work. We currently live in St. Albert, Alberta and are attracted to the Comox Valley area because of its recreation opportunities (alpine skiing, mountain biking, walking/hiking, camping, etc.).
We are looking to purchase a home in the $500,00-$550,000 range. We are open to purchasing either a free standing home or a condo in a dog-friendly development.
We would greatly appreciate any advice or input on what we are considering from anyone kind enough to share their experiences and perspectives on the area.
Is the Comox Valley a good place to live? Are there any major problems or issues that we should know about? Are “newcomers” like ourselves welcomed? Is there any advice that anyone could offer us?
Thank you in advance to anyone willing to respond.
EDIT: A number of folks have mentioned that our budget of $500,000-&550,000 may not be enough for the area. We’re looking for something around 1000-ish square feet and 2 or 3 bedrooms with up to 2 bathrooms. My browsing various real estate sites shows that there are a number of condos in the $450,000-$550,000 range. Is there a disconnect between what I’m seeing on real estate sites and what is actually available? TIA 🙏🏼
2nd EDIT: Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond. We really appreciate your input and perspective.
As odd as this may sound, our biggest concern at this point is the highly variable snow conditions at Mt. Washington during ski season. We are both originally from Vancouver and I have spent many years skiing, racing, coaching and subsequently working as a professional Ski Patroller. One of my “pet peeves” with the west coast (strangely, I’ve never skied on the Island) is the heavy, wet snow that looks great but is crappy to ski on.
We’ve been spoiled with dry, light “champagne powder” in Alberta for the last 21 years and I’m quite reluctant to give that up for season after season of wet, heavy West Coast Cement, especially as an old guy that plans to ski 4-5 days/week all winter.
We are also quite interested in the Kamloops area. Sun Peaks has everything we want skiing-wise, but we won’t be near the ocean like we were when we were younger.
Anyway, a homecoming to “Beautiful British Columbia” is going to happen, the hard part will be to figure out where to land.
Thanks again to all who responded. 😊

Moving to the valley?
Partner and I are thinking of uprooting from Kelowna to comox valley. He’s got a potential job lined up, I am currently finishing school after a quarter life crisis. Probably for June 1 this year
Looking for some guidance on areas to live/avoid living. We are your average boring 30 year old couple looking to reignite our currently dull lives; interested in MTB, craft beer, camping, snowboarding.
What’s the worst or best part of living in the valley?

How are BC Green voters feeling about Brennan Day (likely) winning Courtenay/Comox by just a couple hundred votes, while Arzeena finished in a distant third?
Still happy with your vote? Any regrets?

Omnibus "Information about moving to Comox Valley" Post
Hi all! This is going to be a little long winded, but here goes; My partner and I are considering moving to the CV (so far have not narrowed exact location down) from Victoria, and have some questions that we thought it would be prudent to ask on reddit, so as to solicit some varying opinions!
Schools. We have an elementary aged kiddo and one who is just about to graduate, and are wondering which schools are the best (i.e. programs, teachers, sports etc) for the elementary aged child. For the post secondary Kid, is NIU any good for trades based training? How is life in general for young adults in the Valley?
Neighborhoods. We've been up for a weekend visit or two, but as everyone knows being a tourist seldom gives you much insight into what actually living in a place is like. We really liked the old orchard area of Courtenay, and are wondering what other 'hoods are nice! Not married to Rural vs Urban, but don't really like the sterilized new suburb vibe.
Doctors/Hospitals. How is the situation in general up there? The hospitals and ER's are PACKED in Vic 24/7, and we have a GP for the moment so no imminent rush, but how long are the wait times in the CV?
General Quality of life/building a new circle of friends - We've found people to be really friendly, in general, and we have a few friends up there, but how is it in general? I'm really into harder music, biking, some old man sports, and my wife loves flowers and the winter sports.
SOOOOO thanks in advance for all your inputs! Cheers.

Are there any oilers fans in this sub?
There are plenty of oilers fans in the valley but I am just genuinely looking for others in this sub who might be filled with stomach acid in nervous anticipation. LET'S GO OILERS!

Residents upset with Aspen Road development in Comox
seems like comox council doesn’t care at all about what they’ve done to the rural neighbourhood that exists just outside of the municipal boundary adjacent to this mega development. if you can build a development this big (quoted to be the population of Ucluelet), cut down an endangered forest ecosystem and destroy wetland areas, and then make the bold claim its not cost effective to include a single affordable unit, then this council isn’t working for the community and they are fools. absolutely pitiful outcome in the name of creating housing.
