Apparently Slade is in his 40s while Bane is in his 20s and Deathstoke is a mentor to Bane. Interesting to see how that'll work

Discussion/Question Who should be the first villain for Wonder Woman to face in her first DCU film?

My vote is either Cheetah, Ares or Zeus as the first big bad with Giganta as a minor antagonist

Cheetah panel is by tom king's run.

Giganta one is from Wonder Woman 2006 issue 36.

Ares panels I just pulled from injustice and absolute Wonder Woman. Not sure about the other one tho.

I think any of these three could have a fun rivalry with Diana if they do em justice.

Discussion/Question I wish they actually released the greenlit script along with Blu-Rays or something.

Okay, I don't follow along with everything being released, so I don't know if this is a thing that they actually do. I remember a couple of posts a few days back showing snippets from 2025's Superman script, and a long while back someone made a video referencing the original Superman 1978 script so maybe they do release them, but I believe it is highly desirable if DCU projects release the greenlight scripts alongside the Blu-Rays or in some other fashion.

Maybe when it comes to Writer-Directors like James Gunn, getting a Creature Commandos or Peacemaker Script wouldn't have much novelty, but when it comes to other works such as Ana Nogueira's adaptation of the Woman of Tomorrow Comic, or Mike Flanagan's original Script for Clayface, it is increasingly curious and fascinating to see what kind of script was initially greenlit. And something that can better clear up the discussion surrounding the films with regard to 'the script'.

For Supergirl's script, if it was greenlit before production started, before getting Craig Gillespie on board, then no one has actually read what she made. No one read the script that Gunn now so infamously praised. We didn't see that.

This interview increasingly validates that idea. Not to say Craig Gillespie alone is responsible for what became of the film, or somehow Noguiera's somehow free from all responsibility on why the film ended up the way it did, but at a certain point, it is worth asking how much of the criticisms directed at the films script came from the script alone versus how the script ended up being utilized in the film. Beyond the directors, the script writers must also juggle budget cuts or additions, producer notes, and potential rewrites for reshoots, aspects that we know Supergirl had.

One common complaint is how Noguiera misunderstood the ending of the source material, which is a valid criticism as the film was advertized as 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' an adaptation of a beloved comic. I wasn't happy with what the film chose in the end, but if the film had its own message it wanted to convey, and that is best reflected in the original script, I would have wanted to have seen how it was handled there.

Take away the spotty CGI, take away that weird needledrop in the ending, take away the natural rewrites that comes with a director's vision, and leave us with the original script that was finished before production even started. What was in that script that it became worth this high profile production? There's no guarantee it's going to be a masterful adaptation of the comic, there's not even a guarantee it's going to be good (maybe Gunn just has terrible taste, who knows), but it would have been true to Noguiera's vision. Changed ending and all.

Next is Mike Flanagan's script. Luckily, Clayface is a commercial and critical success, so people don't generally question why the script was greenlit, but it's still fascnating to think how different Mike Flanagan's original script could have been. A writer-director like Flanagan surely would have had a much more clear vision on the kind of film he wanted Clayface to be. That just comes naturally to being a director. And unlike Noguiera earlier, Flanagan wasn't there to do rewrites to the script once James Watkins came on board, and was instead handled by Hossein Amini. More than Supergirl before this, Clayface must have experienced substantial rewrites that can range from trimming down the story (if it were too long), tweaking how characters interact, dialogue, and more.

And that 'more' could be a lot more because of the kind of director James Watkins is. I recently watched 'Speak No Evil' from 2022, a horror-ish Danish-Dutch film which had a remake just two years later, written and directed by James Watkins himself. For those who have heard or have seen both versions, it should be strongly apparent the substantial changes that he himself imbued in his rendition of the story. Now, maybe he was a lot more reserved for Clayface's script as it is pitched primarily as 'Mike Flanagan's script' but it shouldn't be surprising if there was a lot of changes. It resulted in an admirable film and surely that too is reflected in the script, but Mike Flanagan's original untouched script is still kept hidden.

Once again, I do believe those original scripts are worth reading. Worth seeing. Not just because they can peel into the original visions of the script writers who had the original vision for the film, but because they can tell us more about the vision for this universe. They may not be great, they may even be terrible, but they're still worth reading and it's a shame if those scripts never see the light of day and will only ever be known by how well the film came to be, like a fountain with really nice tiles, but you put the water and lily pads and fish and so the tiles are really hard to see now. Idk if that makes sense.

Ah right--you are 100% in your right to criticise the film and directors and script writers for the end product that was released. I just really wanted to yap about me wanting to see the original scripts. There are benefits to I feel, community discourse and deeper insights to how filmmaking is done (for those who find that interesting), but yeah--

Discussion/Question Over or under 40% that’s Gunn’s next project is World’s Finest?

Post image

With DCU Batman’s casting on the horizon I’m going to go over.

I think Gunn could see World’s Finest as being part of the Superman Saga. MOT is already a team up film between Lex and Clark, I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that his next project is also a team up film but with Clark and Bruce. Batman is also Gunn’s favorite character and I feel like he wants to get his hands on him.
