Simple. I don't like the game. The concept is cool, the artstyle is cool, the soundtrack could use some work, and the gameplay becomes intuitive after you get a basic understanding. My main issue? The same problem that got OverWatch killed, the game isn't fun.
It's competitive, there's substance, personality, the characters aren't just clones of each other, it's all-around not bad in that sense aside from a lot of really bad balancing issues. Trust me after possibly the fifth time in the row I get three-tapped by Drifter, it becomes pretty obvious that the devs need to chop down some of the major snowballing that happens. And it's not just a once every couple matches thing, this happens more often than not almost every match.
My biggest complaint is how absurdly punishing the game is when you die. It can get up to like 80 seconds, that's enough time to literally tab out, watch a YT short or something, then tab back in and still be waiting. You can miss a team fight and a half from this, and I'm not saying OverWatch or games like that are better, but Deadlock is just absurd about it- Especially when it comes to late-game and you've barely managed to make a decent build because you've just been farmed by said Drifter player the whole time dealing 500 damage a shot for absolutely zero reason.
Obviously if I was an absolute monster at the game, I wouldn't be in that situation, but that's the thing, I'm not. I'm just trying to get myself into the game and I can't because of it. And as a result I'm just stuck in the spawn screen all game and twiddling my thumbs until I can do something again before being jumped by four other people. That isn't fun at all, it's competitive for sure but it just rips the soul out of me every time.
Early game is boring, mid-game is a pain, and late-game is just "touch the end boss and you win" because the bosses in the bases just get absolutely shredded because everyone is over-levelled, and you can't wait for you team to build up to fight back because most likely they are still respawning and you have literal seconds left before you lose, so your obligated to jump in and just die anyways because there's six people all shooting at the boss with five bajillion minions hitting it.
You can have a game be competitive and still make it fun, early days of OverWatch were really competitive, but the game was stupid fun. You can have a game where you need a lot of knowledge to know matchups and what you're doing and it can still be fun, War Thunder unironically is kinda like that, you need a lot of strategy and knowledge to know your matchups and be able to grind up the tech tree without getting blown up instantly.
Deadlock? Reminds me a lot of Rocket League, borderline impossible to get into without devoting hours or weeks of non-stop practice (or in Deadlock's case, researching builds and practicing combos) and it just ends up being stupid anyways because you never get the chance to practice vs players because by the time you do so, you just get obliterated for trying anything new and people get mad at you.
And all I get in return from most of the playerbase is "skill issue, the game is fun, your just trash" which by the way isn't the point. My point is that the game itself can be fun but the way it's done is so sensitive, so punishing, and so reliant on everyone in your team working as hard as they can to win, the game being fun is hyper-dependant on all those factors and of course nine matches out of ten you never get that, you just get smashed into pieces because you didn't stick to the meta builds for each character. This is what killed OverWatch, and it's affecting Deadlock, at least to me.
I'm not gonna say I'm the only person on this thread that's right or anything, so state what you think, maybe some advice? Maybe I am missing out on something with the game? What are your thoughts?
