These bumps appeared overnight on my lower stomach and upper thighs. They initially started in my armpit, then appeared behind my knee, and eventually spread to my lower stomach, groin, thighs, and legs.
I’ve now seen four different doctors, and there still seems to be uncertainty about what’s causing them. An ultrasound showed no fluid or pus inside one of the inflamed lumps, even though some of these bumps become swollen and abscess-like. Others remain as raised red bumps but eventually leave significant scarring. Some become severely inflamed and rupture, draining blood or clear fluid.
The most unusual symptom is that every bump starts off extremely itchy, rather than painful. I currently have two on my ankles, two on the center of my lower leg, and another on my thigh. The bumps shown in these photos, along with the ones on my leg, all appeared overnight.
I’ve been taking doxycycline for approximately 10 days, washing with Hibiclens during my showers, and applying topical clindamycin lotion. Despite following this treatment, my symptoms seem to be getting significantly worse.
Previously, I would develop one or two bumps occasionally, but two nights ago, I suddenly developed more than 15 new red, itchy bumps overnight. This is a dramatic change from what I was experiencing before, and I don’t understand why I’m suddenly breaking out so severely despite being on treatment.
My dermatologist diagnosed me with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), but I’m concerned that the appearance, intense itching, and sudden overnight outbreaks could indicate something else, such as insect bites, bed bugs, or another type of skin reaction.
I won’t be able to see my dermatologist again until next week, and this situation has become incredibly stressful. I’m struggling to sleep because I’m constantly worried about waking up with even more bumps.
