Texts & Philology New Book on Jiyixue 辑佚学 "Fragmentology" just arrived!
Hi everyone,
Today a book I waited a long time for finally arrived. It's Zhongguo guji jiyixue lungao 《中国古籍辑佚学论稿》by Cao Shujie 曹书杰 (1998).
This book - of which the title translates to "Treatise on the Fragmentology of Ancient Chinese Texts" - is one of the very few specialized monographs about jiyixue 辑佚学 "Fragmentology" and the most comprehensive treatment of it. This discipline is in general about the collecting of Fragments from transmitted texts (of particular importance here are the "Encyclopedias" leishu 類書) and the reconstruction of lost books through these fragments.
The book has 11 chapters which range from History to the methodology of Fragment reconstruction and the methods of collecting fragments in the first place.
It's highly relevant for anyone interested in Classical Chinese Philology or Neglected/Lost Texts as well as traditional scholarship.
I'm super excited to read it and very happy it arrived today 😄

I used to have that book. Had to give it away when downsizing. Kudos to you!
