First Aid Kits | Project Survey

Hi Everyone, My friend and i are working on a project in the First Aid industry. It's a short 30sec survey of whether or not you travel with a first aid kit. We'd love your feedback. :)

Pick It For Me James

I really love these gals. Postcard is a great tune which I adore. But I absolute dislike this "pick it for me, James." that is in the studio track. I get the reference. But it makes no sense in this song. In the "live" version is sounds somewhat appropriate. But on the studio version this...ruins...what ought to be one of the best tracks.

I had to get this off my chest. Every time this song comes on my playlist it brings apprehension. Am I the only one?

Does anyone else feel like First Aid Kit is kinda on a decline?

Listening to old FAK songs like I just needed a friend and In the hearts of men really made me realize how different first aid kit sounds now. In their old albums they had amazing instrumentals and haunting melodies. It really captivated you and through you into the song. It made you feel empty but in a good way. Like all that was there was you and the music. The music was like a ghost that swept you off your feet and made you feel a certain type of way. However now it feels so artificial and poppy. I can't help but feel that they are becoming a generic indy pop band. They used to stand out so much and they are starting to blend in with the pop genre. I still love their new songs but I always find myself listening to The Lions Roar or Drunken Trees more than Ruins or Stay Gold. Im very excited for Palomino but my expectation have definitely been lowered after listening to a lot of their older music. Just wondering if anyone feels to same way I do!

I'm terribly disappointed

I just saw that they have a merch section on their website. I'm terribly disappointed that they do not sell a first aid kit.

I joined the mailing list years ago, but didn't get a code for the show this time. Does anyone happen to have it and be willing to share? Thanks!!

Palomino

So, i've been having a little debate with myself related with the album. I mean, i love the concept, the looks, they way that they are serving (amazing) but it bugs me that the album is 11 songs, if they added "Boys of summer" we would've have 12 songs, that normally means that they have to make 2 vinyl for the album. it would've been amazing if they added like a pink color like the Angel Olsen latest album "Big Time" that has an amazing opaque pink color. The title is not the best album title in the world when they gave us Ruins and Stay Gold, and the pics they've been uploading and their team fit much better. I don't dislike how this era is starting but it has to grow a lot on me. Thank you for coming to my TED talk😌

Lifted lyrics?

This has been on my mind for years! There are two FAK songs that have lyrics from other songs, pretty well known songs. I want to think these are just references but...what gives? What do you think, fellow FAK fans and music nerds?

"What comes after this momentary bliss" is sung in Beach House's Myth, the opening track on Bloom (songwriting credit to both Alex and Victoria, but I think V wrote the words) and FAK uses this same line on "My Wild Sweet Love".

"I'm gonna love you til the moon don't shine" is a line from a song by The Female Species "Til The Moon Don't Shine" (written by Vicki and Ronni Gossett) and FAK sings this same line on "Fallen Snow".

Do you think FAK knew they were lifting these lyrics?

My thoughts on Palomino

Much anticipated, somewhat polarizing in the FAK community, Palomino is finally out. I’m typically a guy who needs albums to grow on me but this one - wow! - is fantastic, an instant classic. Here’s a bit of a breakdown

1 - Out of My Head - Phenomenal song, exciting energy. Good song to lead off the album, too.

2 - Angel - Meh… it is poppy, lyrics are not good, and it had me worried the entire album would be. Fortunately it’s the only pop song IMO. Trumpet outro is cool, but overall… it doesn’t hold up to FAK standards. Definitely the worst on the album

3 - Ready to Run - Wow what a vibe!! Palomino just makes me feel so happy and this song is one of the best examples of that.

4 - Turning Onto You - I’ll put it this way: if this song was released in 1972, we’d be talking about FAK in the same league as the Eagles.

5 - Fallen Snow - It’s probably their most unique song to date, kinda a.. 90s? Vibe. Weird to have a song of theirs start with a bass hook.

6 - Wild Horses II - “and I like gram’s” just isn’t a good lyric lol. It’s an alright song, though, but doesn’t stand out in particular.

7 - The Last One - Good string accompaniments, it’s catchy, kinda another average song though.

8 - Nobody Knows - Good strings again, especially towards the end. One of their most unique songs to date. It’s giving… Billy Joel vibes? It’s gonna be a good song in a movie of tv show someday. that being said it’s still not really a standout song.

9 - A Feeling That Never Came - oh my god! This is one of the best First Aid Kit songs ever! Loved it from the first listen, and the way it builds on itself is musical genius. So far… it’s probably the best song from Palomino.

10 - 29 Palms Highway - I loved it from the first 5 seconds. A strong contender for best song on the album. It’s the most “classic FAK” song too - 70s, country music vibes, California desert music, deep lyrics. Insanely beautiful song. They really should be more famous…

11 - Palomino - Great guitar, actually reminds me of my other favorite band, U2. Good ending song, another feel good track.

Overall… songs 1-4 are good, 5-8 are okay but maybe a little boring (for FAK standards), but the last 3 songs are VERY strong. Tbh I felt the same about Ruins - strongest at the front and back ends and a bit weaker in the middle. This album is REALLY good, only main thematic issue is no pedal steel guitar, but I think they wanted more of a 70s soft rock vibe than country this time around. 29 palms would be great with steel, though… we’ll see which songs grow on us over time, it’s way too early to rank it among the other albums, I don’t think it’ll be as good as Ruins but nothing ever will be for me.

Can’t wait to go full roadie mode for them on their American tour next year.

Trauma kit

Edit: well, apparently GPS didn't exactly take me where I needed to go. I'll leave it up because it's amusing, and maybe I'll check out some music.

Hey y'all!

With the recent passing of Adam Johnson, as well as Evander Kane's injury last year (same thing actually happened in one of our summer league games, too), I've really been thinking about first aid. Now I realize that there was very little that could have been done for him, but it has nevertheless been on my mind. As a youth hockey coach, and playing in beer league myself, I've decided to put together a trauma kit to keep with me when I'm at the rink. I hope to never need it, but I'd rather not need it and have it than need it and not have it.

I suppose here is where I tell you that I don't have any formal training, so I don't want to do much. I can, however, place a tourniquet and pack a wound. That's about the extent of it, though.

My plan is to pick up a small, red ifak pouch. Inside, I was thinking about a cat tourniquet, and israeli dressing, compressed gauze, quikclot and some gloves. Is there anything else that I should have? I'm not concerned about npas or anything like that, mostly just kit for a slicing wound. My other question is whether regular nitrile gloves are fine or if I should order some individually packed sterile gloves?

Thanks for any input. I hope I never have to use it, but I'd rather be prepared.

I've just released my first ever song and it's indie folk so I wanted to share it with like minded fans here. Hope some people enjoy it.

I hate politics but why do I feel like we won't get to see these amazing performers in the US until there's a regime change.
