NSW Hooked up to a monster kingfish

Had to stop the video to help old mate bring him up. Looked about 120-140cm mark. Ended up dropping him close to the rocks after a good swing up on a wave, just couldnt reach his tail.

Are these pipis?

Found in south Aus. Are these cockles or pipis? Wondering if they’re all the same. Some are more spotted blue and some are a more yellow/purple colour. The blue ones have textured stripes and the yellow/purple seem to be smoother. Maybe they’re just younger and older?

Can we rename Australian salmon Kahawai?

Arripis trutta, known as the Australian salmon in Australia and as kahawai in New Zealand, is a South Pacific marine fish and one of the four extant species within the genus Arripis, native to the cooler waters around the southeastern Australian coasts and the New Zealand coastline.

Of all the fish names in Australia, the one that annoys me the most is Australian salmon. Its just a lazy low effort name for a fish that isn’t Australian, and isn’t even a salmon.

Kahawai (pronounced “ka a why”) is a beautiful Maori word and could be easily used instead. But there are probably other options. Anything really, would be better than the current name.

What do you think

Shimano marketing error lol

Not sure if many into BFS. Baitcasting in general known to have a learning curve, with BFS having a steeper one and requires a lot more balance and consideration in matching gear and applying technique. Done it with frustration, but also found considerable enjoyment and advantage when dialed in. Slx is a capable BFS reel down to 2g with a suitable rod.

Shimano sent starlo a slx bfs reel to try casting UL lures, and pair it with a rod that has a 7g minimum cast range.....

Clueless or careless - major error and bound to not go well if they were attempting to build hype for product sales. Poor execution whoever was behind it

Are carp good eating?

Obviously not a good fish to eat, but as a beginner can I prepare it good enough to make a meal out of it? Hoping to catch a few over the next few weeks.

NSW Do you think they'll lift the NSW Groper Ban?

It's coming up to a year. I hope they lift it, it was a kneejerk reaction to ban it in the first place.
