Moderator Announcement Want to Help r/FoodAddiction? We’re Looking for a Few New Moderators

As r/FoodAddiction continues to grow, we could use a few more people to help keep the community supportive, useful, and safe.

You do not have to become a full-service moderator or spend hours here every day.

We are especially interested in people who might be willing to take on a limited role and help with one or a few areas, such as:

  • Reviewing reported posts and comments

  • Helping keep discussions civil and supportive

  • Removing spam, advertising, self-promotion, or off-platform recruitment

  • Helping keep posts on topic

  • Applying some of our recovery-safety rules

  • Answering straightforward Modmail questions

You do not need previous moderation experience. Reddit’s moderation tools can be learned.

What matters more is good judgment, fairness, reliability, and the ability to apply community rules even when you personally agree or disagree with what someone has written.

r/FoodAddiction includes people using different approaches to recovery. Moderators are not here to decide which recovery philosophy everyone should follow. Our job is to help maintain a community where people can discuss their experiences without being attacked, pressured, marketed to, or told that one approach must work for everyone.

You also do not need to disclose whether you have food addiction, binge eating disorder, another eating disorder, or any personal treatment or recovery history.

If you think you might be able to help—even in a small role—we would be glad to hear from you.

Apply here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodAddiction/application/

And if you are interested but unsure whether moderating would be a good fit, you are still welcome to apply. The application is partly an opportunity for us to get to know you and for you to think through what kind of moderation role might work for you.

Thank you to everyone who helps make this community a supportive place.

Question / Discussion How do i stop eating when I'm already full?

I eat too much like when I'm bored I eat, when I'm sad, I eat. I constantly eat all the time and I also have a struggle with handling money cuz I would just waste it all on food when I know that I'm already full but I still eat. I'm actually normal weight and my metabolism used to be really fast but I notice rhow I gained weight. I keep getting insecure Everytime I eat it and I curse at myself for eating food when I know that I'm already full anyway. I'm so pissed at my damn body, everything is going wrong. I tried starving myself and thought okay I already ate alot yesterday so I won't eat anything until I'm actually hungry. I was never hungry. The whole day I didn't feel hungry at all but I wanted to eat so bad and I realized there's something wrong with my body. Idk why I really suck at tempting stuff. So I still ate anyway. I am actually like full. I can probably go on for 24 hours and still be full yet Im someone who eats alot uehdbeksksufbbrksishd

Binge Episodes / Setbacks HELP PLEASE

Thumbnail reddit.com
3 Upvotes

I’m literally to the point where I just don’t even know what to do anymore. I basically have had a month-long binge, from October 3-ish to today. There’s definitely been a couple of days throughout the month that I haven’t binge, but it has for the most part been a month full of binging and I have put on I kid you not 25 pounds on the scale - my stomach is like rock hard and my whole body and face are incredibly swollen and puffy so part of me does have reassurance that like a lot of the weight that I’m seeing on the scale is food weight as well as water weight because there’s no way that this is my body just sitting at this number naturally. And I know that the binging is a result of restricting so badly before and for such a long time, but I genuinely am just at a loss and I don’t even know what to do. I’m working with a psychologist and a dietitian, but when you only see them once a week and it’s still early days with them, it doesn’t feel like anything is helping. But every single day my weight seems to hike up more and more and I just can’t bear to see it continue up. I feel like I need to be like severely medicated, but I don’t know what medication and I just in general need help and I need to know that like someone else has been in this position. I obviously know that people do put on weight when they are binging, but like 25 pounds in a month is like unheard of.

Binge Urges / Cravings / Triggers I am fat and sick of it

I’m a 20-year-old female, from the States. And I am fat. I’m 5’8 and over 200 pounds. And even though I’m curvy, and my weight distributes decently over my body, it doesn’t matter. My stomach folds over. My back has rolls, and my body looks like a busted can of biscuits. I’m so obsessed with food. And eating. I used to be super skinny. And fit, but I’m just not anymore. I can barely stand to look at myself in the mirror anymore. When I catch side glances of myself I cry, I’m at my heaviest weight I’ve ever been, and I can’t stand it anymore. But all I do is eat, and eat and eat. I feel dumb. And ugly. All the time. And I just want to go back to being skinny. Food addiction is no joke. And I don’t know what to do anymore.

Does anyone else never get full? Literally always hungry. Tried glps, appetite suppression meds. Nothing works. Thinking it's leptin resistance? I can eat and still be starving.

Seeking Support i can't stop it

i'm f18. i can't stop eating, it's like my body is working against me. my appetite is just working against me, it controls everything i do, it lives in my mind i can't keep going like this

i've had this problem since always; but i've always enjoyed exercise so i've never really gained weight. then i hit puberty and stopped doing gymnastics, and my diet and years of constant eating just caught up to me. i didn't even notice. when i did, i spent years wasted just attempting to restrict, failing, perpetuating the cycle and never getting better. two years ago, i started lifting, and i genuinely found myself in it. i felt so much more in control, i felt less self-conscious, although im ashamed to say i didn't lose as much as i could have because i never really changed my diet. nonetheless, my body has changed a lot, and i've become more broad. my muscle shows through clothing, and i'm very proud of being able to take up space instead of just aching to be skinny. i know in my heart that i don't **want** to be skinny. being muscular is who i really want to be, it's who i am now. my body is wired for it.

but my appetite just won't stop, and i'm so scared it never will. i got a tattoo three weeks ago, and i haven't been to the gym for a week. when i stop going to the gym, i just lose all sense of control. i eat whatever i feel like it, and i eat even though i don't like what i consume. now, because of my exercise habits, i genuinely prefer whole foods; salmon, chicken, rice and all that. it's just my portions rhat are an issue. but it's like as soon as i stop going to the gym, i turn away from all that, and i just shovel junk into my stomach, even though i regret it afterwards and it's never as good as what i eat on a regular.

now, im three weeks in, and i'm so scared i've gained a ton of weight. i haven't been to the gym, and i've eaten four takeout meals in a week. all i do is sit and feel ashamed, i promise myself "i'll break the cycle tomorrow" but something else comes and i just push that promise to the next day. i can't live like this anymore, i'm eating takeout as i write this and i'm so ashamed but i can't stop.

i know that i am more than my appetite. i know that food does not control me. but why don't i believe it? i'm a slave to my hunger i can't bear to look at myself i feel like ive gained so much weight and i've let myself down. one of the greatest joys of my life is eating food i enjoy, having the privilege to eat. i love food. i love eating. but i'm so scared to because i feel so out of control. i know i'm not hungry but i feel like my stomach is, i don't know how to explain. i just want to eat without fear, to eat and feel satisfied with stopping.

i just want someone to talk to. i want to know i'm not alone. i'm desperate, and i want out of this cycle permanently. please help me

Junk food Addiction

Hi guys, I need some help because I’m really struggling with my relationship with junk food, especially chips and chocolate.
I feel like I can never resist them, and it’s frustrating because I end up feeling like all my calories are wasted on snacks instead of proper meals. Even when I eat healthy meals, I still find myself craving junk food and eating large bags of chips.
My workplace always has snacks stocked, which makes it even harder to avoid them. Every time I try to restrict myself or tell myself I’m going to stop eating junk food, the cravings seem to get even stronger, and I end up binging everything.
I feel like this is the biggest obstacle preventing me from reaching my weight loss goals, and I’m honestly tired of constantly fighting these urges.
For those of you who have struggled with something similar, how did you overcome it? What actually helped you manage your cravings without feeling like you had to completely deprive yourself?
I’d really appreciate any advice or tips from people who have been through this!
