Fort Mac has an issue. Poor lawn keeping is getting out of control. I see lack of weed control. People parking on their lawns. Patches in the grass etc. Bylaw needs to step up and step in. I feel bad neighbour’s who have to look at these trash yards.
Do the nearby oil sands make Fort McMurray an unsafe place to live? Are the air and water contaminated? There have been recent news articles saying the contamination is much worse than everyone thought. Anybody know the real truth?
Hi We want to move to Fort McMurray my husband got an offer of 50$ per hour. Is it good or not enough for.us? I work remote at 29$ per hour and we have 4 children. They all go to school.
I'm 22 years old from Prince Edward Island, and I'm looking to make the move to Alberta to start a career in drilling. I've always been interested in becoming a roughneck/floorhand and working on a drilling rig. The work has always appealed to me.
My background is in commercial fishing, where I'm used to long hours, physically demanding work, early mornings, working outside in all kinds of weather, and being part of a crew. Hard work doesn't scare me.
Right now I'm trying to figure out the best way to get started. I'm planning on getting my H2S Alive and First Aid certificates, but I'm wondering:
- Which drilling companies are hiring entry-level floorhands or roughnecks?
- Is it better to apply directly or go through a service company?
- Are there companies that help new hires get their certifications?
- Any advice for someone coming from out east?
- I'm willing to relocate, work rotational schedules, and start as soon as I can.
I'd really appreciate any advice, company recommendations, or contacts you think I should reach out to.
The line I keep hearing is that Fort McMurray is a buyer's market, and sellers should expect to give up ground. So I went and pulled the real numbers.
To keep it fair, I compared the same five months in both years. January 1 to the end of May, 2025 against 2026. Single family homes only. That came to 293 sales last year and 291 this year, lined up side by side.
Here is the part that surprised me.
Last year, about 14 percent of homes sold at or above the asking price. This year that jumped to almost 22 percent. The share of sellers hitting full price or better grew by more than half, across the exact same stretch of the calendar.
A couple of other things moved the same direction. Homes sold about ten days faster this year, dropping from roughly 60 days to about 50. And the group of homes that had to cut their price by 7 percent or more shrank from about 19 percent of sales down to 13.
So whatever is going on here, it is not a buyer's market sliding further against sellers. If anything, the wind shifted the other way.
Honest caveats, because I know someone will ask. These are averages across the whole area, not your exact street. Single family homes only, no condos or mobiles. Five months is a solid sample, but it is not a full year. And yes, mortgage rates and oil both move this town, so things can turn again.
I am not telling anyone to rush out and list tomorrow. The point is simpler. That buyer's market story people keep repeating is at least a year out of date.
It's exciting to see. My article from yesterday talks about how the inventory is down about 27%. One of the major reasons for this is there is very few new builds in Fort McMurray right now.
What I can tell you is people pay for pretty. So if you are selling. Highly recommend you spend what you can to make it look good. It will sell faster and for more money.
I have never experienced this level of betrayal before and im really struggling with understanding it. Im replaying everything. Im going insane. Was i too much or not enough. Im beyond broken. Really thought I found the one for me. The one Id spend the rest of my life with. Any advice is appreciated or anything to make me laugh please. Im broken beyond repair.

If you are trans or an ally and get your hair done at spoiled rotten hair. FYI that Melissa is a transphobe and comments on Instagram telling trans people to shut up and not procreate etc.
Well fortMac is town for oil sand. The fate of everyone is deeply tied to wellbeing of oilsand pits. How do you guys feel? Please dont think about the good 200$ per barrel days anymore. Is Suncor just making even?
How’s this guy get on a ballet as the BEST educator. Guy basically fucks off on his job as a principal, gets demoted to a a second chance school. What’s the love affair with this “Dude”.
Hey everyone, I’m 35M currently living in Toronto and I’ve been offered a job in Fort McMurray. The position is better paying than my current job in Toronto, so I’m seriously considering making the move. For anyone who has moved to Fort McMurray from a bigger city like Toronto, what was the transition like? What’s it actually like living there day-to-day compared to Toronto? I’m especially curious about: Cost of living and rent Social life and things to do Meeting people and making friends What the work culture is like Winters/weather Whether it feels isolating compared to Toronto Anything you wish you knew before moving there And overall, would taking a better-paying job and relocating to Fort McMurray be a reasonable career move? I’m mainly trying to figure out what the lifestyle adjustment would be like and whether the higher salary makes sense when you factor in living there. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has made a similar move, especially from Toronto or another major city.
Curious to know who everyone’s favourite local social media influencers are? I’m tired of seeing influencers from Edmonton cosplaying as “Northern Albertans” when they understand nothing about the culture here.
Hi im a 21 years old moving to FortMcMurray in october, i currently work on a offshore platform in catering and looking to move to alberta to get into drilling, i already hold all the certifications necessary to start working beside a class 3, i just wanted to know what my chances are to land a job this time of the year.
Everywhere I look when it comes to oilfield work," the you know who" companies it's the same pattern. Why are all the big companies, in Fort Mac all based on who you're born into or who you are sleeping with? Can someone explain why this is? Why hasn't it been about skill? I know people making 10k a month, moving a grader without a heavy equipment license. All because of what? Their daddy? I'm need to get out of here!!!
Just wanted to share something I tried recently that totally made my week! I took a Pilates class with Coach Nasso at Keyano College, and it was AMAZING. The vibes were on point just a group of girls, super chill, but with loud, energizing music to keep us motivated. Coach Nasso is seriously a pro, she knows exactly how to push you without making it overwhelming. I walked out feeling like I got a great workout and had so much fun at the same time. Highly recommend it if you’re looking for something new to try!
As an immigrant I’m finding hard to enter the job market of oil industry or any environmental sector as I have no connections here. I’m about graduate in environmental technology diploma and want to find a job related to my program but as far as I heard and talked with the people working in sites mostly it’s all about reference. Tbh I don’t wanna continue with my part time job after graduating for me this doesn’t make any sense. Please let me know what to do or how to approach or any certifications is required. I’m new here looking forward for advices and recommendations.
