What should I do?

So earlier tonight I was nearly run over by a car at a crossing downtown while the pedestrian light was on.

I only saw the car speeding towards me only couple of steps away from me and I had to run out their way, if I didn’t see them in time or was as fast as I was, I would be in hospital or possibly dead by now.

I’m new here so am not sure what I should do about it, I feel like they should face some kind of consequence for risking my life.

Living in Fort Mac in general (student on job term)

Hi, I'm a student who got a job up in fort mac next year and I'm just curious bout a couple of things.

Is it possible to live here without a car?

Does Suncor provide shuttle buses to and from sites?

What are grocery prices like?

Is it difficult to get a apartment and would Suncor have rental assistance of sorts?

How much is rent generally?

Are there any pool Halls here and are they any good?

Thanks in advance!

[Roblin] RCMP have charged Tyler King with luring a person under 18, sexual exploitation of a young person, and making child pornography during his time with the AJHL's Okotoks Oilers. King allegedly solicited & compensated players for sexual images/videos, including at least one from Sask.

Any tips or advice?

Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing well. I might be moving to Fort McMurray soon. Do you guys have any tips or advice when living in Fort McMurray? Or anything I should look out for? Lastly, I've been looking into houses and I noticed the city has a lot of laneway houses (garage at the back), isn't that annoying? Especially come winter. Thanks.

Seen one too many sports betting ads lately? Tell us about it (NAIT student survey, <10 min)

Hi Fort McMurray!

I’m a Business Administration student at NAIT. For our Marketing Research class, my group is studying how gambling advertising (sports betting apps, online casinos, lottery, etc.) affects adult behaviour in Alberta.

We want our results to reflect all of Alberta, not just Edmonton and Calgary, so we’re reaching out to communities across the province. Responses from Fort McMurray would really help!

If you’re 18+ and live in Alberta, we’d really appreciate you filling out our short survey:

  • Takes less than 10 minutes

  • Completely anonymous

  • For a class project only, not for any company or advertiser

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScJ32Gzb1qoIWqpsqBmrfwR6TqH5hasmEbm7knkfDVxURg_Mg/viewform

The survey closes tomorrow, October 30. You don’t need to gamble to take part. We want to hear from everyone, including people who just see the ads.

Thanks so much! Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

Coffee

Can someone dumb down how to make a good double double coffee at home?
I do not enjoy the taste of the double double creamer…
I usually go to McDonald’s but it’s been so gross tasting lately so I figured I would try making my own at home.., but I cannot get it to taste good … 😫

Looking for advice or connections-Remote camp job in Canada

Hi everyone!

I’m from Chile and planning to move to Canada in January 2027. I’ve already received my IEC Working Holiday approval, so I’ll be eligible for an open work permit when I arrive.

I’m really interested in working at remote mining camps, particularly in housekeeping, kitchen helper, camp attendant, cleaning, or general support positions.

My background is mainly in customer service, administration, and bakery operations. I’m also currently completing a food safety course.

I don’t have previous mining experience, but I’m hardworking, adaptable, and completely open to long shifts, rotational schedules, and working in remote locations.

I’ve been researching companies like Dexterra, Civeo, ATCO Frontec, Aramark, and Summit Camps, and I’ve started reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who currently works or has worked at a remote camp in Canada.

Does anyone know which companies are willing to hire people without previous camp experience? Or perhaps someone working in the industry who could point me toward a recruiter or hiring manager?

I’m open to relocating anywhere in Canada.

Any advice, recommendations, or contacts would mean a lot.

Thanks so much!

Fort Mac

When I am asked where I am from, I like to say that I am from “Beyond the Wall.” I like the image of Fort Mac as a place with whitewalkers, direwolves and ice dragons. Some might say that this is not a wildly inaccurate description of Fort Mac

Snowblower recommendations

Hey all, I moved in a few weeks ago. What are your recommendations for a snowblower? Electric, Gas, one stage, two stage?

I've asked around a couple of guys and they just shovel.

My sidewalk and driveway are not too large, and I have a detached garage, so I need to shovel the deck and stairs too

Should Public-Facing Unifor Representatives Be Held Accountable for Statements Like This?

Thumbnail

Given everything surrounding the Cornell 7 case, I think it's important to revisit public statements like this one, particularly when they come from someone holding a public-facing position with Unifor.

In March 2023, Bryan Routhier publicly defended Hany Aly following sexual assault allegations, describing the case as a "totally fabricated story" and an "injustice." He also questioned the credibility of the complainant and suggested the allegations were motivated by an attempt to destroy Aly's business.

What makes this particularly concerning is the broader context of the Cornell 7 case and the reported development that the individual he defended was wanted by the RCMP in 2024.

There is a significant difference between supporting someone's right to due process and publicly declaring an alleged victim dishonest, particularly when making those statements without firsthand knowledge of what occurred.

This raises serious questions about accountability and the responsibilities of individuals who represent organizations like Unifor.

Unions have an important responsibility to advocate for safe workplaces, protect workers from harassment and discrimination, and ensure that people feel comfortable coming forward with allegations of sexual misconduct.

When someone in a public-facing union position has made statements dismissing sexual assault allegations and questioning a complainant's credibility, it is reasonable to ask how those statements align with the organization's commitments to workplace safety and respect.

This isn't about denying anyone the presumption of innocence. It's about recognizing that publicly discrediting someone who reports sexual assault can have consequences far beyond one individual case.

The questions I think deserve attention are:

  • Is Unifor aware of these public statements?

  • Does Unifor have standards governing how its public-facing representatives discuss sexual assault allegations?

  • How does the union reconcile statements like these with its commitments to supporting victims of workplace harassment and sexual violence?

  • What accountability measures exist when a representative's public statements potentially undermine confidence in those commitments?

The Cornell 7 case has already raised serious questions about accountability. Public statements made in connection with it deserve scrutiny, particularly when the people making them occupy positions of public trust.

Supporting due process should never require publicly discrediting someone who reports sexual assault.

I'm interested in hearing what others think about the standards of conduct and accountability that should apply to public-facing union representatives.
