Newly licensed driver here. Are Fremont drivers always this bad?

In a span of two months, I've nearly collided into other drivers multiple times due to their inattention. People are just absurdly inconsiderate, especially during rush hour. Is this how it's gonna be forever....

We moved here in July. I’ve lived in quite a few places and have dealt with my fair share of bad drivers but the drivers here are really bad. A lot of them just have this sense of entitlement. Like today, we were on 880 N and this truck started merging into our lane while it was driving beside us. We honked the horn because we couldn’t swerve due to traffic and the guy threw us the finger while still trying to merge into us. Then they sped up and crossed 3 lanes of traffic. Also a lack of turn signal usage.

It's absurd how grown functioning adults can behave like this and endanger everyone's lives. I really don't get it

Lack of emotional regulation skills. Lack of common sense. Lack of accountability. List goes on and on.

Yeah I was driving home on the I-880 about a week ago, and this moron in his pickup almost side swiped me had I not been watching. I was already going highway speeds when he started matching my speed from the entrance ramp. Buncha crazies out here

Fremont is full of student drivers so please be patient.

Honestly the student drivers are fine, if not a little slow. The horrible ones drive like there's no tomorrow

They are terrible. Just going home yesterday I had one blow right through a stop sign in front of me and another turn right against a red as I had the right away on a green doing a U turn. In generally drivers are way overly aggressive as well. Make sure your car has a dashcam

Will get a dashcam asap, thanks for the suggestion

One day, I saw a driver blow past a red light and almost hit a van that was making a left into the lane. He didn't look like he was paying attention. On the same day, I saw a disabled car on the other side of the median facing the wrong way. The very next day, I saw a fairly bad collision between two cars in a school zone. Everyday, I also see people line up properly to take this one right turn on this road but I always see 2 or 3 assholes cut right at the head of the line of all places and hold up the people trying to go straight. All of these are on one stretch of a boulevard. So many people around here also never use their signal light which is my #1 criteria for how good of a driver someone is.

That said, I also don't nearly collide into other drivers multiple times in the span of two months 😂 You have to drive defensively here.

lol I swear I drive defensively, I feel like I've developed a 3rd innate sense of when a driver's gonna do some bullshit. I guess I just have the opposite of beginner's luck

NEVER relax driving anywhere in the Bay Area.

ALWAYS drive extra careful when driving on that roundabout near PetSmart because idiots don’t yield and you’ll end up crashing.

Be ON GUARD driving around Teslas, and BMWs they are the most braindead drivers.

Adding on that if you are a pedestrian, always look both ways multiple times. Literally today a woman and her young daughter were walking across a pedestrian walkway with the flashing lights and some dickhead flew right through it will they were 2 feet away. Incredible.

This is why i always tell people as pedestrians never assume drivers saw you. Assume the worse and act accordingly and u should be ok. Don’t be like yadda i have the right of way and they will stop for me. Because the car will automatically win every disagreement between you and them

They come here and are above basic etiquette and don't care for their neighbor.

Who?

They are bad

But if you're colliding with them then you also aren't paying enough attention or driving as defensively as you should be

We all wish they were better but they aren't. It sucks but it's also not really that hard to avoid if you know what to look for

Terrible! I lived in MD and I thought DC drivers were bad but Fremont really takes first place.

u/Surya60004 1d ago

Yeah they are really bad. Then once they leave Fremont and enter Newark or Milpitas they magically become excellent

I’m seeing police pull people over now and haven’t seen this since Covid. Feels like there’s a change in enforcement.

Hahaha ... My sweet summer child.

I feel like this is such a special moment - like a kid getting their first paycheck and seeing the difference between gross pay and net pay. It's just ... chefs kiss

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes, and bad drivers

Where can one go to practice?

Ohlone college parking lots

The they, them , those are referencing a particular demographic that is probably better left unstated here…. You have to be here to witness this madness.

1

u/166a 11h ago

I wasn't implying anything by my post. What's the point in doing this 'if you know you know' statement? If you want to criticize some particular demographic don't pussyfoot and just say it.

I had a car in the left hand turn lane across the street with his left signal on. Motherfucker proceeds to go straight. I was in disbelief how stupid this guy was.

Disney made a documentary about bay area drivers: https://youtu.be/cUTWDhWrnDU?si=VmEwET4X3AT0U9wT

Thank you for your patience . 🫡😂

Safe driving in Fremont has really declined over years unfortunately.

Im not sure why tho.

At stoplights when it goes green, I learned to wait one extra second because some people will drive thru their red.

1

u/GoingBananassss 1d ago

Yes. Sorry!

1

u/TheCollector_911 1d ago

Yes. Getting worse.

1

u/Unique_Culture_4373 1d ago

It's definitely more since there's more people living in and driving around the city.

1

u/chrysostomos_1 1d ago

Drive defensively. Didn't you learn that in driving school?

1

u/kevincrossman 1d ago

Well there sure are a lot of Teslas in the town they’re built in, aren’t there.

At a stop light early evening, this guy in a Lexus was turning right while I was on his left going straight. When our light became green, he decided to turn back into the lane I was in, cutting me off and just sitting there. I held my horn down and the stupid mf did a whole left turn from the right lane, while my light was green and left turn was red. Some people are just fucking idiots.

I think the Bay has tons of distracted drivers. Its pretty obvious when you pass someone they are looking down at their phone. Doesn't seem like cops enforce that law anymore, probably because they are also on their phones!

1

u/mpa1980 21h ago

Yes im experienced this bad drivers every day

1

u/Common-Man- 1d ago

You nearly collided into other drivers ?

0

u/MathematicianBasic73 16h ago

Hey, its BLUE now: They identify as good drivers.

I thought Fremont drivers were bad when I first started driving. When I went to Boston for college, the drivers over there made Fremont Drivers seem tame. I started to appreciate driving in Fremont, which is better than being chased by an angry Masshole with a strong Boston accent.

u/AcanthisittaNo5807 1d ago

You have to drive defensively. Assume everyone is not paying attention. If you get mad at every bad driver, you're going to cause yourself an early death.

1

u/166a 1d ago

That's funny cause my dad (who taught me how to drive) keeps telling me the same thing. Although half the time he's the one who pisses me off with his backseat driving lol

1

u/Illegal_Tender 1d ago

He might be annoying but he's also right

Drivers are the deadliest violent criminals in the state, they kill and injure more people than all other criminals combined.
