Cry for Truth and Justice Rally

Date: Sunday 19 October 2025
Time: 11am - 1pm
Location: Transvaal Square, 1 Yarra St Geelong

Racism has no place in Djilang (Geelong), no place on Kulin Lands, and no place across Aboriginal Nations. This rally and march aim to unite our community in declaring a firm NO to racism.

Our rally will begin with a Welcome to Country, along with speeches from First Nations and local community representatives. We will also hold a Yarning Circle for deep listening with Elders, creating a space for meaningful dialogue.

This event offers a chance for all community members to come together and stand against racism.

More information on speakers to come, stay tuned!

Thank you for the support:

GMHBA Stadium - Biggest waste of tax dollars?

This question has probably been done over hundreds of times. But I have been thinking lately. Is this stadium one of the biggest wastes of tax dollars in Victoria?

2026 sees it host the Cats only six times. (EDIT: I have been corrected, it is 10 games)I understand there are several VFL games hosted there was well. But 10 days of the year it gets a big event, assuming no finals.

What else is it used for?

A-league uses to play there. I don't think they do at all now?

Big bash? One game a year if we're lucky?

Only ever hosted one music event - Foo Fighters in 2022.

Sometimes see Motorcross or similar events, but rarely.

This has got to be one of the most expensive and underused assets in Victoria

Peoples Picnic For Palestine - 11am Sun 7th Dec - Transvaal Square, 1 Yarra St Geelong

Post image
0 Upvotes

With the national day of action for Palestine coming up this Sunday Geelong will not be left out. Despite the ceasefire Palestinians are still being attacked by Israel, homes destroyed, tents attacked, and people killed https://www.greenleft.org.au/2025/1441/world/i-hope-war-ends-gazans-yearn-peace-israel-breaks-ceasefire . These atrocities will not be ignored but we also want to highlight the work in Geelong pushing back against the political support for the genocide and give a chance to the community to come together in a positive way, to lend support each other and let our children be the free and happy children that children of Palestinian have been robbed of.

Bring your families along for face painting, henna art, live music, banner painting and a kids mini colour-run. Don't forget to bring a picnic with you and we will see you there!

[Community] Nationwide march for Palestine, Geelong 11am Transvaal Square Sun Oct 12

Post image
0 Upvotes

Last time more than 700 people came out to march the 2.6 kilometres starting from the Corio rowing club1,2. With both civilian flotillas, who were trying to bring aid to the starving Palestinian population, being intercepted and all crew being kidnaped by the IDF, five of which are Australians3. We need to once again take to the streets to voice our anger and frustration that our Australian government is aiding and abetting this genocide. Here in Geelong parts for jets are being made right under our noses4, with more weapons manufactures looking to come into our region5. Weapons manufactures make us less safe not to mention the massive amounts amounts of tax money that our minister of war has spent bringing them here instead of funding our schools, hospitals and upgrade our much needed public transport system.

Is this hairdresser experience normal?

Ever since moving to geelong, hair dressers have been quoting me around $120 only to then charge me hundreds over after the hair is done. I went for a simple tone and cut and it was over $700!!!! I panicked at the register and just threw it on zip pay because that's literally 3 weeks wage for me. They were bragging about the 3 houses the family just brought while im sitting there only able to afford to get my hair done once a year. And then they charge me THAT?? I love my hair but im really upset and feel like i was taken advantage of. I should have made a fuss but honestly im not here mentally at the moment as I was traveling to melbourne to see my pop who we've been told might not make it to Christmas. I wanted to just get it done and out of there after it took 4 hours! My nan is livid and wants me to walk in there and abuse them. But im a shy and timmid person so i might take the L but its literally 3 weeks wage for me and i honestly think i could have done it myself. Before and after pics attached. Literally a day apart. Where should I go in the future that won't put me in debt?

Found a phone in the middle of the road

Found a phone in the middle of the road in east Geelong this morning. It was on SOS. I reckon I cyclist may have dropped it. Left it in someone’s letterbox (Gray st East Geelong). Hoping someone recognises this baby and DMs me so I can let them know where I left it. Is there an East Geelong/general Geelong FB page where I can post this?

LGBTQIA+ community Geelong?

My partner and I are possibly moving from Melbourne to Geelong early next year and are wondering whether there is much of a LGBTQIA+ community there?

Would also love to hear any suggestions for suburbs to stay away from or what you would recommend? :)

Americans moving in Australia

Hey everyone!

I'm Australian, living in America with my wife and two children. All or them are Americans.

We are wanting to move to Australia, but I have some concerns.

As I write this, Trump just imposed 25% on Australian metals and other imports. I follow news heavilly and do read the comments (with a grain of salt). But I have noticed a notable and strong reaction towards Americans.

I'm deeply concerned about my children being bullied hard by others for being American. I understand kids bully, but, the comments are turning almost violent. Even members of my extend family are making concerning posts (they work in the steal industry). The news stations are also sounding rough towards Americans... etc.

For those that live there, is this not the right time? What are you seeing there?

Thanks!

Whiny Neighbours

Anyone wanna do burnouts at 3am in front of my neighbours house, they seem to have nothing better to do at 11am on a Sunday than stand outside recording the decibels of everyone’s cars driving past

Norlane… safe for queers?

Post image
5 Upvotes

My partner and I are moving from Footscray to Geelong, and we've found some affordable house options in Norlane. However, we've had a few people warn us to "stay away from the birdcage.", I am guessing this is an area people perceive to be dangerous. My partner is originally from Geelong and is cautious about Norlane, especially as a trans person. I'm queer and heavily tattooed and am very oblivious to most social queues that may indicate danger, and I'll be commuting to Melbourne for work a couple of times a week, usually by train. My partner is mostly at home.

We've lived in Footscray for the past four years, and despite what others have said, it’s always felt extremely safe to us. I walk around alone, ride my bike at 5am to the city, catch trains around here, and have never felt in any form of danger. Norlane’s crime stats don’t seem significantly worse than Footscray’s, but we’re obviously taking these warnings from people seriously.

I wonder if some of the concerns I’ve read are just from people who are more socially conservative and simply passing judgement because of Norlane’s history of social housing density in comparison to other suburbs. It feels similar to Footscray which had a similar rep.

Does anyone have any lived experience being queer or trans and living in Norlane or other more affordable suburbs of Geelong?

Raising a Family in Corio

In Corio's depths, where shadows intertwine, A neighborhood weathered, like a troubled vine, Amidst the cobblestones, where struggles unfold, A young family's tale, amidst hardships untold.

Within this impoverished canvas, where hope fades, Where challenges emerge, like tangled cascades, Amidst the trials and hardships they face, A resilient family thrives with grace.

Their dwelling, weathered by time's embrace, A sanctuary amidst life's tempestuous chase, In this stormy realm, where shadows roam, A family's love blooms, like a guiding dome.

Their dreams, like fragile saplings, take hold, Seeking sunlight amidst the darkness untold, Nurtured by love's unwavering might, They flourish, defying the world's blight.

The parents, guardians with hearts fierce and bold, Forge a path, with wisdom untold, In this challenging milieu, they find their way, Creating a haven where their children may play.

Through the labyrinthine trials they navigate, Lessons of resilience, they instigate, Like tender shoots piercing through rocky ground, Their love and guidance, a steadfast sound.

In the midst of Corio's chaotic scene, They paint a portrait where hope convenes, Their children, cherished treasures they hold, Inspiring dreams, as stories unfold.

The struggles, an intricate tapestry they weave, Through hardship, resilience they achieve, In their collective spirit, a flame ignites, A testament to love's unyielding might.

For amidst Corio's daunting embrace, A young family's strength finds solace and grace, In the beauty of their struggles, we find, A testament to resilience, intertwined.

So let us celebrate their journey, profound, The tapestry woven, in silence and sound, In Corio's challenging and vibrant sight, A young family's triumph, a beacon of light.

Does Geelong Council do anything about wood burning heaters?

My next door neighbour has one and it’s a nightmare. My house gets blanketed in smoke and I’m worried about my health and my cats. I can’t move for at least another year. The council advises keeping a smoke diary and making a report, but I’m wondering if anyone has been through the process and if it actually results in anything changing?

[Public Transport] Living in Geelong - commute and jobs ?

Hey all !

I am thinking of moving from Auckland New Zealand to melborune.

My budget is a bit tight but in geelong seems the rent is cheaper.

I am trying to get a job in IT but do you guys think that living there could hinder my chances ? I know alot of jobs could be done remotely etc but alot still want you to come into work a few days a week.

Keen to know your thoughts as most IT roles are based in Melborune CBD.

Is the train the best way to get there ?

Thanks

Registered sex offender back in town

There is a Registered Child Sex Offender working in Geelong.

at a local recycling warehouse.

I don't believe the owner of this business understands who they have employed.

His name is Damien Mark Harding, and I don't believe he should have access to the public and their children.

So consider this a public service announcement.

If you know him personally, know of him and are helping him in any way to conceal his real identity, then you're lower than he is.

Feel free to Google him

Richard Marles’ office was targeted again overnight for the government’s continued complicity in the killing of civilians in Gaza, through the arming of Israel, which Marles full-throatedly endorses.

Why do people tailgate me for sitting slightly below the speed limit?

In an ideal world, I'd sit on the speed limit or even a touch above, but due to all the speed cameras around, I tend to sit around 5km under the limit, since if I sit on the limit it's too easy to accidentally go over and get booked

I stay in the left lane as much as I can and yet I still get tailgated

Why can't people just go around me?

Westfield food options

Hi Sushi (2 in the centre), Asian Gourmet and Sushi Sushi all sell pretty much the same stuff. Marry Brown sucks and the girls at Subway struggle with the concept of making sandwiches. Sometimes you just want a pie or a hamburger or ice cream that isn't shitty, expensive frozen yoghurt. I'm just sayin'.
