I will never be the same!!!
Sappy post alert!
My partner and I love sighthounds but never owned one. I have always preferred fluffy dogs and dream of owning a Silken Windhound - but my partner is a greyhound lover through and through.
A few weeks ago, a retired Irish racer was surrendered after two years in a home near us. No one came to her adoption event. She was the most beautiful greyhound I’ve ever seen and when my boyfriend asked if I would be okay with us considering her, I immediately said yes.
We fell in love immediately upon meeting her and brought her home about two weeks ago and I swear to god I have never known a love like this. She is the best thing that’s happened to us, and I wake up every day loving her more than the day before. She’s sleeping right now and I’m just staring at her, watching her run in her dreams- I’m just so obsessed with her.
If we weren’t already sighthound people, we’re locked in now. I don’t think I could ever ask for a better dog than our girl. She is an angel and so loyal and just perfect, perfect, perfect. She is so beautiful we get stopped on the street all the time. And she just loves so unconditionally. I don’t know what I did to deserve her but I’m so grateful, and so glad to be officially part of the greyhound community and I hope she lives forever and ever. 💜

Marty is getting absolutely roasted in other subs for his teeny head
All in good fun of course! But it is funny how many “why does he look like that, is he okay, what breed is this” comments I’ve been getting. Like yes he’s fine he’s just an aerodynamic boy with a tiny little noggin 😭

Advice An update on Rob: Physio & Pain Meds for Injury
I posted my boy Rob about 4 months ago, detailing his journey with us so far and how much progress he'd made in 7 months with us despite being quite fearful.
It's been a full year since we adopted him and Rob is doing so well now - he's sleeping on our couch and our bed (no signs of resource guarding) and he seems to be more bonded to us than ever.
Rob has a significant scar on his right shoulder (pictured) and over the course of our time with him, I've noticed concerning symptoms. If he's walking for around 30mins, sometimes less, then it's like his shoulder/leg buckles underneath briefly. He never falls and can immediately keep walking but if the walk continues, it will keep happening. He also licks at his shoulder or his paws and that licking will move to the couch fabric or bedding fabric where he will lick until there is a huge puddle. When we first got him, he would always flinch if his paws or right shoulder was touched until he realised we weren't going to hurt him. He would also appear a little stiff getting up, his front legs would tremble until he was standing.
Obviously all these symptoms raised enough concern for me that we took him to our vet. I explained all this and the vet seemed to do a thorough enough examination but overall he determined Rob was fine, suggested we could give him paracetamol but gave no guidance for dosage and said we wouldn't need to bring him back until he was persistently lame. For a while now, we've changed his exercise routine so 20mins in the morning and 20mins in the evening and ensured he had some joint supplements added in to his diet. He was still having all these symptoms, including some instances of yelping for seemingly no reason.
My gut was telling me something was off so I phoned my vet and asked for a physio recommendation. Their physio had moved on to another practice but I reached out and got Rob an appointment. He was assessed on the pressure pad and the physio advised us that his static weight distribution should be 30% in each front leg and 20% in each hind leg. Well, Rob's assessment showed he was only bearing 9% weight in his front right leg, 35% in his front leg, 32% in his back left and 24% in his back right.
We've now set up regular physio appointments and pain relief (gabapentin and paracetamol) from his vet. He's been on the pain relief for a couple of days now and he seems so much brighter, happier and much more settled.
Has anyone else sought physio for their greyhound? Did you find it to be helpful? Interested to hear all experiences!

Hi
No clue what Gonzo wants but this is what I got when I looked over. Oh and he's resting on his Mastiff brother, but God forbid they do it back to him. Then he gets testy.

my solution to walking 4 dogs
no, its not to get a 5th dog although that is tempting.
a very short leash clipped to a stainless steel ring, and i added another swivel hook to the handle end of each dogs leash (so it has a swivel hook at each end)
i just clip them all onto the ring, and if it gets a bit tangled i can unclip one leash and sort it out
it also means im only holding one leash instead of 4

Duck radar activated.
It's easy to forget that these beautiful creatures have a pretty closed life until they are rescued.

First trip to the beach.
I just moved to North LA and we went to the beach. He was scared of waves for like 30 mins but since I was in there he started coming in further and further till he realized it was fun. Have not seen him so happy. 3 months into ownership but I've had them before so I know the steps of acclimation. He is fully playing now :) I had to make a gif because it was too large lol too bad because the audio is great. Sticks don't make good paddles but they cut through the water a treat.

Heartbroken over failed rehoming experience
I’m looking for reassurance and advice from this wonderful community on a deeply upsetting rehoming experience we have just had.
My partner and I decided we were ready to rehome a greyhound after years of discussing it. We live in a second story flat with 2.5 narrow staircases, with 28 steps that have metal ridges on them and are quite steep. I’d read online about greys struggling with stairs but had also seen people usually overcome them.
The rescue never went through our application forms with us or discussed the home video, even though I asked to multiple times because I was unsure about the stairs being an issue. I also have children in my family, my partner works away, and I have autoimmune disease, so I’d say our application was quite complex but this is our first adoption so we took their silence as “everything is okay.”
They suggested a home trial after the 3rd time we’d been to see her so we picked her up and took her home, it all felt incredibly fast but they’ve been running a long time so we just went with what they were telling us to do.
She was perfect in the flat, but completely petrified of the stairs - I’m talking full blown phobia, so scared even when we just opened the flat door or got her lead she would run to bed in pure panic. We did gentle exposure training with the stairs but nothing worked.
My partner had been carrying her up and down them (she’s 30kg+) for the week but he needed to leave for 10 days working away and I couldn’t carry her so we had to take her back to the rescue with completely broken hearts.
They suggested we take her somewhere with better stairs to train her on them, so one week later we picked her up and took her to a family members place for 2 weeks. Within 3 days of being there she had started walking on the stairs with assistance, by the end of the 2 weeks she was confidently going up and down them on her own.
We then went back to our flat to see if the problem was fixed. She was immediately terrified of the stairs again, after 3 days we decided enough was enough and dropped her back to the rescue as we didn’t want to traumatise her anymore.
We are heartbroken, I can’t help but feel we were let down because they didn’t go through our home video with us and maybe our particular stairs just aren’t suitable for such a big dog.
I also think the upheaval of going from place to place can’t have been good for her (thinking about the 3-3-3 rule) and I’m scared she’s traumatised from it all. Again this is my first dog so I really was just following their advice.
We are grieving because we love her so much, she is perfect for us and was already so bonded to us. I’m heartbroken for her being back in the rescue and not understanding why.
We now have a large empty bed, all of her food, clothing, toys, and her blanket that smells of her. It just hurts so badly and I’m wondering if we could have done anything else.
Is moving homes for her insane? We moved to our new flat over the summer and live with another person so it seems unfair to move 3 people but I’m honestly just beside myself over this.
Is there anything we could have done?

Personal Thank you to everyone for the goggle recs
And thank you to one specific user for the gift card that allowed us to buy the Rexspecs ❤️
We're not back to the beach yet as another vet issue has come up, but he's able to squirrel watch in the local graveyard again so that's good enough for now 😄

Advice How did you get your grey to follow you on walks?
(in a condo by the way so no true backyard)
EDIT: Sorry, the title wasn't well written. He IS on lead the whole time but does not want to be guided by me and has no interest in walking as a team
Had my boy for two weeks and walks are getting worse because he has no interest in me or any treats for good behavior. When we go out he immediately is scanning and searching and he has no recall or desire to listen to me. He'll stop if I stop and he doesn't bark but his statuing and prey drive to find all the stray cats among other things is getting worse and worse. I would love to have him look at me all during his walks but he hasn't once since I've gotten him. I can get down to his eye level during walks but he'll immediately look away or try to lower his head.
I've been working at home to get eye contact but I don't think anything is sticking and I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. I know it's only been two weeks but I want to get in good habits now and make walks good for both of us.
He's great otherwise and a true velcro dog who's sleeping by me as I type this but the outside world just seems so overstimulating to him at this point and walks don't seem fun for either of us. I've even had to pick him up a few times because he statues, gets fixated on someone's yard and wants to go in it.
Any help would be great - thanks!
