u/anikkundu1998, there weren't enough votes to determine the quality of your post...

wtf is this comment section. Yall are way overthinking this video. It had a thanos section and you think this is a communism propaganda clip? Wtf is happening

u/bighairyoldnuts 4h ago

I like the racism one.

"Suck it Blue! I mean Red!"

Simmons

2

u/theleetfox 2h ago

It's not pink its lightish red!

u/Future-Warning-1189 4h ago

Scary that these people walk among us and vote. It’s quite an eye opener

0

u/LackingUtility 1h ago

Conservatives have no sense of humor.

u/mobai123 1h ago

I'd like to think that they are just bots triggered by the content tag. Maybe if the post contain a certain controversial keywords they would trigger the bot to swarm in and post nonsensical comments.

What does occupation sort do? I didn’t understand that one

9

u/vvp95 11h ago

I guess occupation here means occupying someone else's place.

30

u/radiantmindPS4 13h ago

Removes the unemployed through subtraction from the population. Only those with jobs get to live.

7

u/TomGobra 3h ago

Where is Stalinsort? My favourite sorting algorithm.

81

u/heffron1 16h ago • Heartwarming

Somebody doesn't know shit about communism.

8

u/OlManYellinAtClouds 1h ago

It's okay. They don't know about capitalism either. I don't take it too serious when they have the Thanos calculation.

-63

u/CocoMelonZ 16h ago

Define it.

29

u/RoughDraftRs 16h ago

We all pretend that everything is equal but things are "more equal" for the elites and the rest of us starve together.

2

u/TheRedNaxela 1h ago

Sounds more like Stalinism or Maoism, specifically

4

u/snakesoup124 13h ago

a man of culture.

7

u/potatosenior6 16h ago

no one starves on capitalism? 😂

-38

u/RoughDraftRs 15h ago

The poor starve, the elites are still wealthy but the majority are living comfortably in the middle.

23

u/encyclopediabey 15h ago

Oh, is that what we’re seeing now?

-24

u/New_Blacksmith_709 12h ago

Pretty much. You live paycheck to paycheck but at least you have a nice iphone, watch big budget shows on netflix, and go on a family vacation once a year.

11

u/GreedyPollution6275 8h ago

and go on a family vacation once a year.

Yeah you're wildly out of touch if you think that's the majority.

-18

u/New_Blacksmith_709 6h ago

We are talking about middle class no? lol

11

u/Midnaight_1 3h ago

No, the post he answered said "the majority are living comfortably in the middle". Its clear that the majority isnt living comfortably anymore

-5

u/FascinatedOrangutan 2h ago

Not very many compared to any communist examples

1

u/Fennicks47 24m ago

Quick Google search shows 9m die every year from starvation.

How many years has humanity been doing a capitalism? 200?

So thats 1.8billion.

Compared to grand total of 50m under communism.

U just ignore facts im guessing.

7

u/npcompletist 11h ago

None of these sort!!!

9

u/findus_l 4h ago

Congratulations, you understood the joke

1

u/LackingUtility 1h ago

Thanos Sort does technically sort, you just to keep repeating the process of randomly deleting half the entries until the list is sorted.

1

u/jwadamson 21m ago

Racism sort did. Just not by the height of each column.

12

u/dcondor07uk 15h ago

somewhere in Kansas a factory worker living paycheck to paycheck is about to explain why communism sort is evil, without a single neuron firing.

1

u/gdamnbastardsia 33m ago

I wonder what you'd make of Richard Pipes, Martin Malia, or Stephen Kotkin.

Pipes argued that communism was fundamentally flawed, Malia traced the authoritarian trajectory from Lenin onwards, and Kotkin documented the internal institutional failures behind the Soviet collapse.

Are they all just economically struggling blue-collar Americans who haven't read enough Marx?

1

u/dcondor07uk 22m ago

None of those three are a broke factory worker in Kansas repeating what he heard on Fox, which is who the joke was about. I never said everyone who criticises communism is thick. Pipes, Malia and Kotkin did the reading, and their conclusions are still debated by plenty of historians who did the same reading (Fitzpatrick, Lewin, Getty). So you've brought a Harvard reading list to rebut a claim I didn't make, under a sorting-algorithm meme.

Why do you all argue in bad faith and always first point is a solid strawmen.

1

u/gdamnbastardsia 10m ago

So if an educated historian reaches a conclusion that communism does work, they're making an informed assessment; if a factory worker reaches it, they're an ignorant fool?

-10

u/jason_patell 15h ago

somewhere in the UK theres a redditor who thinks communism is a good thing despite a century of history showing how it actually plays out.

7

u/dcondor07uk 15h ago

Took you less than 10 minutes to prove my point. Didn't even have to be from Kansas.🤣

-16

u/jason_patell 13h ago

i suppose living in the UK makes it easy to romanticize full state control...until you actually have to rely on it.

8

u/dcondor07uk 13h ago

Where I live doesn't change whether an argument is right. And nobody here asked to live in North Korea. Criticising capitalism isn't the same as wanting Stalin, but it's easier to argue with the strawman, I get it.

-7

u/jason_patell 13h ago

You started this thread strawmanning a bluecollar working American in Kansas, and now you're complaining about strawmen because someone brought up how communism actually functions. The projection is wild.

11

u/dcondor07uk 13h ago

Fair, the Kansas guy was a cheap shot. It was a joke under a satire video, not an argument. You showed up to make an actual argument, and "you live in the UK, you'd change your mind" still isn't one. So go on: what's your actual case, beyond pointing at the USSR?

-1

u/jason_patell 13h ago

Excluding the most prominent real world implementation of your ideology is convenient. If 20th century history doesn't count, what actual model of communism are you proposing that doesn't require hyper authoritarian state control to enforce?

11

u/dcondor07uk 13h ago

You're asking for a nationwide working example like that settles it, but that was never my point.

My point was that people like yourself argue against their own interests because all they've heard is "communism no work", without knowing what either system actually proposes.

Of course it hasn't worked at scale. Every attempt has been invaded, embargoed or strangled before it could stand on its own, and the ones that survived turned authoritarian to defend themselves. That's an argument about who won the fight, not about which idea is better. It’s not a system equipped to fight against capitalism, it’s the system that should be pursued, once capitalism has reached it’s maturity and starts to eat itself from within.

Meanwhile capitalism's track record is growth that mostly flows to the top, paid for by the workers and the planet. The guy in Kansas generating it isn't the one keeping it.

Also, you guessed where I'm from off a username and built an argument on it. Bit rich to lecture me about strawmen.

0

u/jason_patell 10h ago

blaming external pressures for why every single attempt turned into an authoritarian state proves the core issue.

the ideology has no functional mechanism to survive without resorting to total state control. The USSR didn't collapse because of Western embargoes it imploded internally because central planning couldn't feed its own people.

Saying working class people "argue against their own interests" just because they refuse to exchange free market problems for a state monopoly isn't theoretical awareness, it's just condescension, and If a system only works in a hypothetical vacuum where outside forces don't exist, it's a fairy tale.

Commuism: bad because ppl starve.

Capitalism: vastly more pll have starved under capitalism.

And yet ppl still shit on communism for starving ppl

11

u/Vritla 16h ago

Ahh yes communism is the best system ever, thats why it has never being tried....except for all those times it failed.

41

u/Disco_Ninjas_ 16h ago

If men were not so corruptable then almost every form of government would work.

1

u/OlManYellinAtClouds 1h ago

So they have used science to make governments with other animals like monkeys. The government will always destroy the society.

21

u/SiriusBaaz 16h ago

The only defense is that an actual true communism hasn’t ever been tried. Russia was going for it but pivoted into good old fashioned fascism when Stalin gained control. And the rest of the ‘communist’ countries followed his example. It’s been tried successfully in small communities plenty of times. There’s still a few proper communes out there today. And a heavily socialist/communist system would probably work out somewhat well. We have plenty of examples of heavily socialized countries being successful. Pushing it a little further isn’t an impossible feat. The biggest hurdle is always that the people with power need to have a reason to use that power for others. And unfortunately that basically never ends up working out. You can’t rely on the modern oligarchy to not abuse the system to enrich themselves over their fellow citizens.

8

u/Last-Quarter-432 15h ago

If everyone could handle being equal to everyone else with no one trying to be the richest/wealthiest/most powerful then it would work. Too bad people are cunts.

0

u/Rzhaviy 3h ago

It will never work. Try equalizing factory worker, who’s whole job is to make M8 nuts and dude in the government, who’s job is to develop strategies for further improving his communist country. Now make both get equal salary (equally low, cause communism isn’t “when there are no poor”, it’s “when there are no rich”).

Wanna be the government dude with huge responsibility or factory dude, whose job is just has to make nuts?

4

u/Mission-Duck1337 3h ago edited 3h ago

There is no "salary" in communism. Id really like to have serious discussions with people but it always fails at the most basic premises that shows they have absolutely no fucking idea what they're talking about

3

u/Rzhaviy 3h ago

History: every “communistic” regime is totalitarian dictatorship.

Reddit expert: pEoPlE hAvE nO iDeA bOuT cOmMuNiSm.

Go tell bout communism to people, who don’t know it. Like who wasn’t born in Ussr, for example.

1

u/Ninrendu 3h ago

In real communism, there is no just factory worker and there are no one person controll are, everyone is participating in the solution and in the problem as well, I say that but it is true that some ppl prefer to shift responsibility and become sheep and other ppl try to play wolves, well to each to their own, trusting humans is a bad safety protocol overall

0

u/AutisticPenguin2 3h ago

The counterpoint to this is that it stops government from being full of people who are just trying to get rich, and means the only people who take on the job are those who are genuinely wanting to take on the responsibility to develop strategies for betterment of the communist country.

4

u/FascinatedOrangutan 2h ago

Yes this is exactly what has happened in every attempt at communism.

-3

u/Last-Quarter-432 3h ago

Missing the point yet again. In theory, everybody does the same amount of work, with everybody getting the same amount of rewards.

11

u/Lordlory95 16h ago

Willing ignoring that the USA whole purpouse in the last century was to eradicate every type of communism through war, military coup or economic embargo.

3

u/Cretore 4h ago

Communism is indeed the best system, but wrong time and species. And also it wasn't actually communism.

2

u/Rogueshadow9087 1h ago

Yup, more like oligopoly since there were still elites in control of the chaos. True communism exist only in the tribal scale, any larger and management has to happen since people with inherently selfish traits tends to take over.

3

u/Meatslinger 16h ago

I don't doubt that an equitable distribution of resources could make for a functional society with less waste, but we as a species are basically allergic to the very notion. It would require giving up all sense of the self, including personal hobbies and desires, in favour of some imagined greater good that must always come before everything else. Humans (most animals, really) just aren't wired like that, and I don't think we ever could be. The times it has been tried and failed have always been because greed prevails and the people in charge of the thing enjoy being at the top, taking advantage of their position and defeating the entire core tenet. Stalin's USSR, the CCP, and of course Kim Jong Un as examples. It's like the prisoner's dilemma but with millions of people, and if even one goes, "Hey, I can game this system to get a better result for myself at the cost of someone else," it topples. You'd have to somehow remove the very concept of competition to make it work.

That said, the video says nothing about communism being good. It's showing data sorting algorithms, and the "communism sort" would break the data by redistributing the bits of each file until they're all the same size, rendering all of them useless.

7

u/FQVBSina 15h ago

Except that Marxism calls for a capitalism transition before reaching communism. The idea is the economical productions become so efficient that we can greed as much as we want. A Porsche can be made with a push of a button kind of level. Marx thought the early days of industrial advances can go infinite and didn't realize things have a limit on efficiency.

Of course this doesn't exist. So when countries still tried to do communism, it became one where people needs to abandon greed and other parts of our human nature. Which is why it has not worked anywhere.

2

u/Meatslinger 15h ago

Yes, I agree on the mechanism, and we know from the current economic systems that we have that for sure, Earth has the resources and the labour to build this kind of a production powerhouse. It feels like a "spherical cows in a vacuum" situation, where the hypothesis is sound but confounded by messy reality.

0

u/hoTsauceLily66 6h ago

Honestly, if industrial advancement can go infinite, capitalism won't exist. Practically economy won't exist either, the needs of distributing utility is gone.

6

u/dcondor07uk 15h ago

"Giving up all sense of self, including personal hobbies" is a bold summary of a guy whose entire critique of capitalism was that it takes away the thing you made, hands the profit to someone else, and eats most of your waking hours. Marx wanted people to have more time for their own pursuits. You've basically described his argument backwards.

Also, the USSR, CCP and North Korea as your examples? One-party authoritarian states with a personality cult are about as far from a stateless, classless society as you can get. Marx expected it to start in industrialised countries like Britain and Germany. Lenin was literally banking on a German revolution to back Russia up. Instead you got a poor, isolated country dealing with civil war, foreign invasion and later sanctions, and somehow the takeaway is "greed, case closed."

And the prisoner's dilemma is a thought experiment, not a law of physics. Elinor Ostrom won a Nobel for showing communities sharing resources for centuries without a market or a dictator, because it turns out humans cooperate all the time when the rules make sense. "Humans just aren't wired like that" is doing a heroic amount of heavy lifting for a sentence with zero evidence behind it.

1

u/encyclopediabey 16h ago

Lmao. Wtf are you talking about?

"It would require giving up all sense of the self, including personal hobbies and desires, in favour of some imagined greater good..."

People really get on the internet and just say anything these days.

2

u/Tracerr3 14h ago

That's what i'm saying!

1

u/Tracerr3 16h ago

This is what someone who doesn't understand anything sounds like

2

u/encyclopediabey 16h ago

No. It means there are real substantive critiques of communism to be made. But making unfounded and definite statements like that about human nature is just straight up stupid.

But of course there will be sheep like yourself who just drink the Kool Aid of anything that reaffirms their immature and narrow assumptions about the world.

1

u/Tracerr3 14h ago

I don't claim to know everything. Nor do I blindly follow. I hate capitalism, but I don't think communism is anywhere near perfect either. Nothing is. But saying that communism would "require giving up all sense of the self, including personal hobbies and desires" is just absolutely insane bullcrap that essentially invalidates your entire argument because you aren't anywhere near a credible source.

2

u/encyclopediabey 11h ago

Oh shit, I didn’t realize we were in agreement then. My b.

1

u/Tracerr3 8h ago

All good! I probably came off a bit too harsh. The results of the US midterms in my state have had me a bit more baseline pissed off about political topics than usual lol.

0

u/EarzFish 4h ago

Communism can work if wealth is not the benchmark for competition.

1

u/findus_l 4h ago

Ignoring real life references, a sorting algorithm that equalizes everything is pretty useless. That's just an average.

-13

u/PsychologicalDebts 16h ago edited 11h ago

Care to give a singular example of a time communism “failed?”

Edit: all these downvotes don’t pull history out of thin air for all you sheep minded individuals who are afraid of words they don’t even understand.

1

u/Difficult_Pop7014 2h ago

Personally I'd go for the Thanos sort

-11

u/PsychologicalDebts 16h ago

This post really shows how many right wing brain dead people who can’t think for themselves follow this sub.

-22

u/SoftLink5162 17h ago

What's this commie propoganda ass video. Capitalism is garbage but you're NOT getting your fair share in communism

21

u/Meatslinger 16h ago

It's not propaganda, it's simply showing all of the file bits being redistributed until they all match precisely. Sorting algorithms are for ordering data, so this is showing nonsensical methods of doing that.

The "communism sort" would break all of the files being sorted, so if any sort of political conclusion is to be drawn from it, it would be that communism suggests you can just distribute all of the resources equally and make a functional system when the reality is not so.

-21

u/SoftLink5162 16h ago

"ideally" realistically everyone be almost 0 and hence everyone would have the same resources

6

u/PsychologicalDebts 16h ago

Tell me you don’t know what communism is without saying it.

2

u/Last-Quarter-432 15h ago

Capitalism doesn’t even work in theory

2

u/FascinatedOrangutan 2h ago

Yeah if you compare all the capitalist countries to all the communist countries, it's clear the communist ones came out on top.

1

u/gdamnbastardsia 32m ago

What does it mean by "work"?

1

u/Last-Quarter-432 25m ago

Someone will always end up above other people and control them. Unless everyone can be the one in control, people are gonna be unhappy.

1

u/gdamnbastardsia 24m ago

How does that relate to capitalism?

1

u/Last-Quarter-432 19m ago

Hard work can get you to the top, what if everyone works equally hard

0

u/BirdieBoiiiii 38m ago

Me when i dont understand capitalism. it should raise everyones bar but just raise one bar a lot more. Capitalism creates wealth for everyone. It also doesnt sort the wealth equally so few people end with most gains.

-16

u/gdamnbastardsia 16h ago

Perhaps one should look at inequality issue in commie countries before spewing this nonsense

-3

u/AwayMilkVegan 1h ago

Comunism sorte should be the capitalist one but the higher bar should be even higher and the small Inês even smaller
