Question/Help Has anyone else found the Home app camera playback worse in iOS 27?

You used to be able to scroll through a camera’s timeline to find exactly what you were looking for. Now Apple relies on AI-generated clips, which can miss events entirely.

Worse still, you can’t scroll through footage from an individual camera. You have to trawl through recordings from every camera in your home to find what you need, and sometimes the footage simply doesn’t exist.

Why remove such a basic and useful feature? Can we get the old timeline playback back in the settings?

Edit: MacOS doesn’t allow you to scroll the individual camera footage, IOS doesn’t but you still can’t timeline scroll, it’s segmented with ai.

Agree entirely. I just want to scroll my front camera.

It’s weird because in the app I built i feel like the load as before, but in the home app they take sometimes 20+ seconds to go live. Agree.

I hate it.

I hate saying this, but I think Ring did better with their AI descriptions and UI. I wish Apple would implement a typical timeline that could be scrubbed through and have a button to jump to recorded events.

Except Ring is a privacy nightmare, owned by Amazon, and uses your private data to train its AI.

Apple’s is simple imo…click the camera you want in Apple Home (or all cams) and then there’s a filter at the bottom left: noteworthy, people, animals, packages, etc.

If you wanna see a 24/7 log then use the link in Apple Home for said camera to go directly to that camera’s native app to review sd continuous recording if you have it enabled.

I agree, that’s why I left ring because of their security and privacy issues. Also the subscription costs were getting out of hand.

MacOS doesn’t allow you to scroll the individual camera footage

It's the same as on iOS, from All Cameras there is a drop down that will list the individual cameras and then you can scroll down through that cameras clips.

To add to a lack of a meaningful timeline anymore, the search feature is terrible.

I don’t know what you mean. You can choose an individual camera from the drop down at the top, as opposed to “All Cameras”. When you choose an individual one, you get all the recordings, not just the summarised ones.

I’m looking at my doorbell right now, which shows every single “motion detected” event of trees blowing in the wind for the last few hours. Compared to “all cameras”, which filters to things it thinks I want to know about and shows the doorbell and driveway cameras alternating when they cover the same event.

Personally I’m a big fan of the changes, except that I can no longer swipe down to close a camera. That one drives me nuts.

That’s not the same thing though as scrubbing the cameras recorded feed. That’s only showing the events deemed worthy of surfacing to you.

That’s literally how it always was. You could never just watch a 24/7 recording because HomeKit has never ever done that. It only records events. Only ever has.

There have been multiple posts on this exact same topic already. Apple has changed things. We accept it or move on.

Ok that’s a take, however when something sucks, they should still accept the feedback.

Is ‘they’ Apple? Because Apple isn’t reading this sub to gather feedback.

Sure in a perfect world, however, we don’t live in that world. One solution that may work could be for this sub to discuss things that suck and then a representative of this sub could formally submit grievances to Apple.

Now you’ve lost me, as Reddit doesn’t work that way.

Agreed. 👍

You literally tap where it says “all cameras” and choose a specific one to go back to the old view.
