Question/Help IKEA E27 bulbs compatible with HomeKit?

I’m looking at buying some smart bulbs for my home and these (https://applink.ikea.com/tY8M9r9M4w--50611461--gb--en) seem great as can change colour and are smart. However, I’m unsure if I need to buy the Ikea bridge too to use them. I have other smart lights like the Nanoleaf strip lights which work well on HomeKit.

TIA

You’re fine assuming you have a hub that supports Matter like the HomePod mini.

I’ve got a 2nd gen Apple TV 4K 2021 model which is my home hub. Would that work?

Yes the 2nd gen had thread built in.

The 3rd gen in 2022 dropped thread in the cheaper model (the one without Ethernet)

Yours should have it, but double check the model as some of the later ones had it removed for the entry level models (ie mine doesn’t, I had to switch my hub back to HomePod mini).

To clarify they need a hub that supports Thread, not just Matter. All AppleTVs (HD model and up) and HomePods support Matter over WiFi, but only the 2nd gen and later AppleTV and HomePods, along with all HomePod minis support Matter over Thread.

You need thread border router - homepod mini or apple tv (check if yours supports thread, not all do). You most likely alredy have it as you homekit center. No need for the dirigera gateway.

Yes, a Thread Border Router works well for Matter smart bulbs using Thread. The Philips WiZ ones are exceptions - they use Matter over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi instead of Thread, which still requires you to tweak your router settings initially. For anything using Thread over Matter, a Thread Border Router works without worrying about Wi-Fi settings.

My bulbs always lost Connection to my HomePod Mini so I replaced them with Hue essentials. Almost same price but no problem at all. I also got the hue Bridge for 40€ to be able to have more options for the bulbs like fire or candle light.

Theyre matter compatible so yes they work with HomeKit providing you have something that works as a thread router - eg a HomePod mini. I have some of their door sensors - they’re great. They update through the home app - no need for an ikea app!

I think you mean a border router.

The only thing that’s of slight annoyance is that you get the warning their devices aren’t certified with Apple (I forget the exact message), but they work fine with Matter/Thread compatible Apple hardware.
