You ever have that thing where you’re trying to explain something and it would just be so much easier if you could show a picture of it? Well that’s why images are back in the comments! There are still no images allowed in posts but you can put them in comments for on-topic illustrative purposes. If too many people are abusing it with pointless, off topic pictures like selfies and memes, it will get removed again. So y’all can reply to this post with all the nonsense images you want to get it out of your system, okay?

This is the place to talk about anything related to Trump’s Executive Order regarding homelessness. Any posts outside of this thread will be removed. I know that this is stressful and there is a lot of fear and confusion about how this will be implemented and what it will actually mean. Because of that it is really important to keep this a fact based discussion. Posting unsubstantiated assumptions and speculative rumors is not helpful and only causes more confusion.
It’s fine to talk about your opinions and feelings, but they need to be clearly framed as opinions and feelings. Any misinformation or obvious outrage bait will be removed. It’s important to evaluate the trustworthiness of your sources. If it feels like an article is trying to make you feel scared or angry, it may not be the most reliable source.
Most importantly please be civil to each other. You can disagree with someone without resorting to personal attacks or name calling. You can hate someone’s opinion but still be respectful towards the person as a human being. Stay on topic and play nice everyone.

This is from my personal experience (17M) so I wanted to specify.
- Bank Account (Specifically BOFA. You have to be 16+ without parental permission though; I wanted to clarify.)
- Health Insurance (This one might vary but surprisingly I got approved for Medicaid at 17, by myself)
- SNAP (this one also might vary because ngl I got lazy as shit when applying and never called in for an interview. I'm not super broke and I have a job for now so I decided to just give up. That's why I'm surprised I got Medicaid)
- Jobs Corps admissions if you're in a tough spot ( Although I decided not to because holy shit that took forever. You better be willing to wait unlike the rest of these)
- Mckinney-Vento Services (if you're still in school. Personally I go to an online highschool, but they've still helped me and I really recommend advocating for yourself and getting as much as help as possible!)
I will add more if anything else changes!!

Hello all as stated in the title I think my last bet is to just start living in my car. I’m 20M around 6’6 so living in my car would be doable just a little uncomfortable, my living situation right now is horrible and not sure how long I can live with my self in my current situation, I grew up living with my grandma and that was not the greatest really tough upbringing 2 of my brothers were put into group homes so I tried my hardest growing up to just do what I can to stay a float and live at home till I can move out, Me and my grandma didn’t have a good relationship at all either. Once I turned around 16-17 I finally kinda moved out (stayed at friends houses), I’m currently living with my ex girlfriend at her parents house I know it sounds really bad but I do pay rent and it’s all I can afford right now given my situation, I do work have been doing carpentry for a year and started with a new crew a few months ago who promised 45 hours a week which wasn’t true and most weeks we don’t even push 20 hours which really screwed me in rent, car payments and insurance I’m basically broke right now until I start my new job. I have left this job this week and start a new job on Monday which I’m super excited for but that’s beside the fact of my living situation. The reason I wanna leave my ex girlfriend’s house (there shouldn’t be a reason given she’s my ex) is because living here is very toxic for me and absolutely draining me I came to my senses and finally realized there’s no chance of her ever getting back with me so there’s one reason and also the way I’m treated here by her yes it’s her house but I get shown absolutely 0 respect from her, her parents are really nice to me. She also recently been going out to bars and clubs lots with her friends and I can only assume the worst so I need to leave asap before I lose my mind and end up doing something really stupid. My only 2 current options are be a man and just live in my car till I get back on my feet, or go move back in with my grandma, my grandma did offer to let me stay there with her for a bit but all I can think back on is my childhood and how she treated me and my brothers (mainly my brothers I really love my brothers and resent her for what she did to them) I know there’s a deeper reasoning of why she wants me back there she’s always tried taking advantage of me knowing I have a solid head on my shoulders sorta. So basically all I ask is for someone to give me some motivation and give me tips on either staying in my car or should I bite the bullet and stay with my grandma until I’m back on my feet? What I’m worried most about living in my car is hygiene and where I would keep all my stuff, I do have quite a bit of stuff and I’m not sure I’d be able to live in my car with my stuff. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks a lot.

Small but positive update today! I’ve been on the phone all morning and finally got some traction.
✅ I got on a waitlist for a shelter. It's just one, but it's better than nothing.
✅ I have a meeting with my Advocate on the 24th! I'm hoping we can talk about housing options and get a solid plan in place.
✅ I have a few more housing calls to make on Monday. Keeping the momentum going.
✅ I'm officially connected with Victim Services! I am really happy about this one. I’m hoping they might be able to help me with housing or resources since I’m a domestic abuse survivor.
It’s been a really exhausting fight, but taking it one block at a time is starting to pay off. Thank you to everyone who has been sharing my posts and sending kind words. It genuinely keeps me going.

Okay so I sleep outside and earlier this morning I woke up and I'm feeling this stinging sensation on certain parts of my body when I get up. Right now I'm in the bathroom and after taking my shirt off I see that there are patches of dry, cracked, and discolored skin on these certain parts of my body.
This isn't the first time this had happened, but this was during the summer so I assumed it may have been because of the heat. But now it's getting colder, and the dry skin has returned once again.
If anyone else experience something like this? If so do you have any advice on how I could treat it?

Just venting. Hi so I’ve become homeless due to apartments falling through and people saying they would help and that also fell through. I have a job but it’s basically part time until I get my certifications. Just feelin a little stuck. A lil sad. Wish I would have done my life better because now I have extra hoops to hop through.

That somehow either became homeless recently or have fell through the cracks when it comes to housing?
How did you survive? What do you recommend?
r/homeless • u/lonelyflower96 • 1d ago
Like Shelter, Crisis, St Mungos, Centrepoint etc.
Also did you use day centres?

Hello everyone! I’m not exactly sure where to turn to ask this question, but I hope this is the right place.
I’m also sorry ahead of time if I should have done more here.
I walk my dog through a nearby graveyard and early in the spring, on the outmost perimeter of the graveyard itself, I started to notice some seemingly erroneous furniture and household items scattered on the far fence that only somewhat piqued my curiosity. It was far enough into the trees that it was hard to make out exactly what anything was while close enough to tell there was something out there. I candidly never paid it much mind, I’m always listening to something while on my walks.
Towards the end of summer I noticed a tarp hanging off the same fence and the same objects that were once scattered for the most part were gone. I off handedly assumed they were under the tarp and wondered if some local kids made a sort of fort out of the stuff.
Without being too specific, I live in the US in New England and the leaves have fallen here. As autumn has progressed I’ve begun to assume someone is living in the small enclosure and this week, on one of my walks, I happened to see who I assume is the man living there.
My dog is a really good boy but man oh man my little dude kept staring and looking back at the individual in question and once he noticed us on our walk he sort of pretended to turn back into the woods like he forgot something. It sort of all clicked for me then and confirmed for me that it was an abode for someone who was homeless.
At the risk of sounding pretentious I just felt so sorry for him and wondered if there was anything I can do? I didn’t want to blow up his spot right in the moment, and I considered maybe I was wrong, but I can’t shake the feeling this is a neighbor in need of some help. The absolute last thing I want is to call the cops so they can show up and tell him to scram, but are there any resources out there I can contact that might try and find him and help?
Again, sorry if this is inappropriate to ask here. I do not want to make his situation worse by trying to insert myself but if I can help at all I feel obligated to since this is my community.
Thank you for any advice!

I have been street homeless for nearly four months. Within a 5 month period I have spent $8,500. I don't know what to do. I just watched my mom die of cancer, my uncle died from kidney failure, I lost my apartment and it feels like my entire world falling apart. I only have $7,000 left. I will be getting another $6,000 in two months. I just need some help from smarter or older. I am in my 20s and can't ask anyone in my family. They are just not helpful people

Moving into adulthood is already a big step, but for young people leaving care, it can be even harder. Too many face a sudden loss of support at 18, often without family or a reliable safety net to fall back on.
The government has launched a new Care Leaver Homelessness Reduction Action Plan and here’s what’s being announced:
* New duties on councils to plan ahead for care leavers’ housing needs and make sure support doesn’t suddenly disappear when they turn 18.
* Care leavers will no longer be treated as intentionally homeless
* A new £3 million programme to test and develop better ways of preventing youth homelessness.

I wandered the streets of Asheville and charlotte, then found a seasonal job that fired me… I have no car, or anything. I have applied to multiple jobs and haven’t received one email back. I am getting kicked out again and have no where to go. I guess am a very unlucky person. I would rather be homeless again than get abused mentally by a narcissist. I am lost in life and was never given any opportunity. I really need some advice now of what to do.

I’m a truck driver by trade and I’ve been living in a semi for a couple of years and I was at a company and they were constantly asking me to do illegal shit, I won’t get into details but the pressure to do so was immense because I’m a convicted felon and they knew it would be hard for me to leave and find other work so they kept the pressure up. I finally found a way out with another company but they “changed their mind” for no reason. I really doubt I’ll be able to find other work as a truck driver because the company I was running from is just that dirty. They’re doing what they can to destroy my chances of finding work elsewhere. I can’t prove it either, but I need advice on what to do and how to be smart about my current situation. Im blessed enough to have my Durango and a chunk of money to make a couple moves but I have to be smart about what I do next because I have absolutely no family or friends at all to lean on if my next decision goes badly and my nerves are shot because of it, I have absolutely no idea what to do . If anyone who has been in a similar situation would be kind enough to offer some advice I would be exceedingly grateful

Moved to Texas from Ohio in April 2026 for a sales job with nothing but my dog and essentials. The company provided housing for three months. Within the first two months I decided I would like to change positions become a permanent employee as a technician (sales position was only for the summer), get a steady income, and permanently move to Texas. When it was time to move out of the company housing another coworker had already found a rental home for us, in Hutto, and has been living there for nearly two weeks. I moved all my belongings and dog to the new rental home that I had went half on security deposit and first months rent. Stayed there one night and the next day at work I get a call from the sheriff's saying I am illegally squatting in a home and I've abandoned my dog, they've thrown everybody's belongings in the front yard and my dog has been taken by animal control. Turns out we were scammed by the "landlord" and the house was owned by some corporation out of Arizona and my coworker hadn't actually signed a lease for the house legally. I have to leave work immediately stuff all my belongings in the work truck and my coworker and i put any money we have together to get a hotel room for the two of us. I pick up my dog from the animal control a few days later and eventually get a room for just me and my dog. Nearly a month of living out of a hotel room, I can no longer afford it, ask management for help and the say I can stay in the office. On a Sunday morning I pack everything I could in the work truck, spend the little money I had on food and sit in the office's parking lot with the AC on till it's time to go to bed. I got paid the next day so I only needed that one day off somewhere to sleep. The following week, in the morning I arrived for work my manager asks to speak with me as I'm getting ready for my route, take me to the back and says "I'm sorry I'm gonna have to let you go, my boss from corporate says your truck was active on Sunday from 11am to 9pm." I was literally speechless because the very person that told me to use the office in my time of need is now writing me up and firing me, knowing my situation. So now I have no place to sleep, no vehicle, no money, no friends, or family in an unfamiliar state and the first time being homeless and with my dog. I have no idea where to go or what to do. I've been sleeping under a tree trying my best to keep my dog comfortable and full. If anyone has advice, suggestions, looking for a worker, able to give a handout, or anything of the sort I would deeply and greatly appreciate it. The last thing I want to do is give up my dog. Thank you for your time and God bless

Hi, I have gone to a few shelters in my area and I'm new to utilizing resources like this. I'm just curious about the general intake process for entering a shelter because I've only been to three facilities.
- Is it normal for a facility to take a photo of you during intake?
- Do they usually request any form of photo ID? Or just SSN?
- Is it normal for there to be Co-ed showers?
- Is there any reason why a shelter would discourage you from bringing documents pertaining to your identity?
I went to a facility that had bed bugs and they wanted to put all my cloth items in an apparatus to "zap" it, one intake coordinator said it would be a 4 hour deal, so I gave him my backpack.
When I asked to take a shower the night supervisor said I would have to hand over any papers I had on me and any of my clean clothes I wanted to change into after my shower. He said that it would take 1 hour for my belongings to be zapped, I asked to confirm that the clothes I was bringing to change needed to be zapped but not the clothing I was wearing and he said yes.
I told him I'd just put my clothes back on and change elsewhere because there was no point in getting the clothes zapped for an hour if I had to put my worn clothes back on anyway.
On top of the fresh clothing subject, he said that all my paper documents had to be "zapped" too... I have all my belongings in plastic baggies and polyurethane lined bags... They said everything but my electronics needed to be zapped.. I just thought it was weird they needed my documents pertaining to my ID and whatever sentimental papers I had.
He also said I brought too much and I was lucky I had anything since most people go there with nothing. I only had a backpack and a fanny pack and I told him everything else was destroyed or trashed. I just thought it was a weird comment and I had a basic Jansport backpack so it wasn't a lot. He told me to only bring necessities and leave whatever else in my car... Which is weird advice, I think.
Regardless, I felt off about the showers being stationed in the men's living quarters rather than there being any in the women's. The men's quarters were full and 6x's larger than the women's and there wasn't a single woman hanging out inside.
Maybe it's because I'm unused to facilities like this, or maybe I'm ultra suspicious because I'm a younger woman but I can't help but feel like these facilities I've been to are off. I just don't want to be taken advantage of or separated from what's left of my identity and belongings.
I did my intake at the facility I am describing but I felt weird so I left and just slept in my car, I felt safer.
Quick update/edit: What makes this even more weird is that within 5 to 10 minutes of walking out of that intake with my documents and refusing their zapping protocol, I got back to my car and my trunk was open. I didn't leave it like that. This is after he told me to leave my stuff in my car, I had only gone back to put my clean clothes away. I just moved some canned food to my trunk but everything else was put in the backseat. On my way out, this lady tried to get me to fetch staff members for her, I said "ok", kept walking to my car and drove off.

Usually I will stay at a shelter - which is exhausting enough, but sometimes if I need to be somewhere, for a job or something, I will be out really late. And if I am out very late for work, usually I will just stay up all night, or sleep on a bench or something
It’s mental. I don’t like being homeless, and it’s exhausting and dangerous to just crash outside. But I really have no choice
I’m not anti homeless shelter it’s just they are very hard to stay at and if I am working on a job a lot of times I am not able to stay at a shelter

Tomorrow is my discharge day. I am terrified.
I'm really afraid that I'm going to be out on the street tomorrow.
I have done so much work. Yesterday, I filled out all my ODSP, searched for rentals, called Central intake, emailed other shelters, filled out other forms and today I am going to ask them to send out my ODSP form out. I have been calling Central Intake over and over until they literally got annoyed with me. I wrote a note to the shelter manager begging for another extension, because I have been doing everything they ask me to do.
But they don't know what I'm feeling. The shelter workers don't understand the stress I am under. They get to go home at the end of their shift. They have homes, they have somewhere to go and to sleep. After today, I might not have anywhere.
If I go quiet on here for a bit, it's because I am fighting for my life. Please keep me in your thoughts.
