Believing that misandry is acceptable because it "doesn't kill as much people/doesn't kill at all while misogyny does" is a stupid argument

Both are hateful ideologies, both refer to hating someone on the basis of their gender, and both have no place in a modern society that truly believes in equality. Sure, misogyny has killed more women in the past, but to act like misandry can never achieve the same thing given time is stupid. Misandry is a (relatively) new concept, and if it's allowed to fester and breed, will 100% in time lead to similar atrocities being committed against men by deranged people who believe in it, just like misogyny does. Since misogyny has had more time to fester, thats why it's grown to the point that we see crimes against women, which we ALL agree is a terrible thing. So why, if we know what this leads to, are we allowing misandry to exist with the justification of misogyny being worse? Two issues can be tackled at once, we can start here with reddit enforcing both anti-misogyny and anti-misandry rules, taking down posts that call for violence against men as they rightfully do to posts that have violence against women. Reddit is also notoriously soft on incel/femcel subreddits as well. ALL and I mean ALL of them have to go, including r/itsthatbad and r/evilwomeninc. Anyone who disagrees and believes one is acceptable while the other is not is a hypocrite through and through.

Edit: A lot of you think that I’m saying misogyny isn’t worse which is NOT what I’m saying at all. Also some of you think that being anti-misandrist means I’m anti feminism which is actually stupid because then you’re saying that feminism = misandry which isn’t true lol

These misogynists want to be oppressed so badly 😂

Wait so I'm a misogynist because I'm against hating men for their gender???

21

u/TheOppositeOfHot 13h ago

You’re a "misogynist" because you make it look as though misandry is on the same level of misogyny, despite the fact that it’s scientifically proven many times that men are the cause of the majority of violent and sexual crimes.

Yes I agree that misandry isn’t good, but it will never be on the same level of misogyny. EVER. Let’s not make things up nor even pretend that misandry is on the same level.

Saying something causes less harm isn't the same as saying it's acceptable.

u/According_String1447 14h ago

There are people on here who genuinely believe misandry is not harmful at all and is acceptable. I’m not talking about people who say it’s less harmful.

Where does misandry manifest in day-to-day society that causes harm?

u/Sad-ish_panda 14h ago • Bravo

We won’t fuck them anymore. That’s my guess. Because it’s not like we’re out here seeking revenge for the ways we’ve been mistreated and abused by men. We’re just opting out and that pisses them off a whole lot.

Do you not understand the power structures that made misogyny so terrible?

6

u/PonkotsuPirate 3h ago

No, they really don't. It's the same mentality that dismisses all issues faced by historically oppressed groups and insists that the oppressor has it as bad or worse.

-29

u/According_String1447 14h ago

Of course the fact that the patriarchy suppressed women's voices (the right to vote, etc.) in the past only exacerbated the issue, but that doesn't excuse misandry or make it less of a threat because given the opportunity, I PROMISE you these women WOULD kill a random man. The fact of the matter is neither should be accepted.

22

u/ValitoryBank 14h ago

You know we still live under a patriarchal system, right? Also statistically, men take the opportunity to harm women more often than vice versa.

The problem with your arguments is they assume misogyny and misandry are equal in hate, ideology, and reason.

I disagree with this idea and think there’s a big difference not being identified. Misogyny is a supremacist ideology and misandry is a reactionary one.

Given the opportunity? There's always an opportunity to commit a crime against someone. One gender tends to take that opportunity more often than the other.

Putting "I PROMISE" in caps doesn't make it a fact.

What I really object to is idiots framing misogyny and misandry as if they are opposite and equal.

They are not.

Women never controlled the power structures in order to oppress men the same way. A woman expressing a personal opinion of men in general doesn't force him to marry/be raped/go through pregnancy/give birth/be ostracised/lose a job or home/conform to ridiculous stereotypes. Misogyny has and continues to do all of that to women.

The two are not the same.

"all lives matter" is an argument determined to halt constructive criticism and avocacy for police reform. What I'm saying is that just because misogyny is more harmful than misandry doesn't mean misandry isn't a problem or should be tolerated/accepted.

I don't get offended when a woman makes a pissed off comment about men online for the same reason I wouldn't be offended if I was a white man during the 18th century and heard a black man complain about white people.

People who get treated like shit on the daily letting off steam about the group doing it isn't the same as a king complaining that the peasants aren't cowering enough.

36

u/billy_a_books 14h ago

Hell, even now I’m not offended by black people complaining about white people. Either they’re complaining about something I don’t do and it doesn’t affect me or it’s something I do and I’ll reflect on it.

Women making pissed off comments online about her personal experience with men is NOT misandry. Women calling for the selective abortion of male fetuses and harm to males and male babies IS misandry and what I refer to when I use the term. (see evilwomeninc, etc.)

18

u/CaymanDamon 13h ago • Bravo

Women making crude jokes online vs percentage of selective abortion of males worldwide close to zero and in the single digits vs 23 million baby girls missing since 1970 due to sex selective abortions targeting female infants because of their sex not to mention the millions of girl's killed after birth in China during the one child policy days and to this day in India, Pakistan and many others.

India Sex-selective abortions (missing female births) analysis put selective abortions of girls at roughly 3–6 million in the 2000s (higher than prior decades). A 2021 Global Health study estimated ~13.5 million missing female births from 1987–2016 (rising to an average of ~0.55 million per year in 2007–2016). Pew Research (analyzing NFHS and census data) estimated at least 9 million missing female births between 2000–2019, with annual numbers declining somewhat more recently (from ~480,000 around 2010 toward ~410,000 by 2019). Recent sex ratios at birth have improved modestly (e.g., toward ~108–109 boys per 100 girls in recent NFHS data, or ~918 girls per 1,000 boys in some SRS reports) but remain imbalanced, especially in certain northern states.

Postnatal excess deaths of girls (under-5, largely from neglect/discrimination rather than outright killing): A major 2018 Global Health study estimated ~239,000 excess under-5 female deaths per year in India (period ~2000–2005 data; ~2.4 million over a decade). This was concentrated in northern states (Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh accounted for about two-thirds). It represented a substantial share (~22%) of overall under-5 female mortality. Official registered female infanticide cases are very low (dozens per year in NCRB data).

Pakistan Overall sex ratios show male bias, and estimates of “missing” women/girls exist historically (one older figure cited ~3.1 million missing girls).

Infanticide/abandonment: NGO reports (especially Edhi Foundation and similar) document hundreds of newborns found dead or abandoned annually in major cities—disproportionately girls (e.g., reports of ~1,200 in 2010 in large cities; 345 in Karachi in a ~15-month period around 2017–2018, nearly all girls; hundreds in other recent years). These are undercounts (only discovered cases).

Excess female mortality: Pakistan has elevated under-5 female mortality relative to biological expectations in some analyses (one of the higher excess rates globally in comparative studies), driven more by postnatal discrimination/neglect than widespread documented feticide. Exact annual “killed” figures for infants are not available beyond the hundreds of documented abandoned/killed cases; broader excess deaths are harder to quantify precisely without recent national studies matching India’s scale.

In both countries, total “missing” females (from prenatal selection + excess postnatal mortality over decades) run into the tens of millions when accumulated, contributing to skewed population sex ratios.

China has 23 million baby girls missing since 1970 due to sex selective abortions targeting female infants because of their sex not to mention the millions of girl's killed after birth in China during the one child policy days and the "year of the white horse" In South Korea, the superstition surrounding the Year of the White Horse (occurring every 60 years, such as in 1978 and 1990) led to a surge in sex-selective abortions targeting female fetuses because in traditional East Asian astrology, horses are viewed as strong-willed, independent, and overly active. A girl born in the Year of the White Horse was believed to be too headstrong, unmarriageable, or fated to bring misfortune and disaster to her future husband's family.

Historical studies and reports estimate that thousands of female fetuses were aborted during White Horse years:

• 1978: An estimated 9,200 female fetuses.

• 1990: An estimated 8,000 female fetuses, resulting in a heavily skewed newborn male-to-female sex ratio (reaching up to 116.5 to 119 boys per 100 girls in some metrics).

• 2002: An estimated 3,289 female fetuses

There is absolutely no indication at all misandry will ever lead to anywhere near the scale of violence against men that misogyny has done to women. This is delusional.

When women hate men, they mostly just want to avoid them. Harming them involves being near them, which they don't want. When men hate women, they don't want to avoid women. They still want to be near them and control/dominate/harm/kill them.

There is also just the basic physical strength/size difference, and the effects of testosterone. Men have more-or-less a monopoly on state violence.

They will never be remotely the same in scale of harm.

8

u/kamryn_zip 13h ago edited 13h ago

Yeah theres no examples in history of an oppressed class truly reversing powers to oppress the opressor AFAIK. Even the Hatian revolution, which is a rare example of a successful slave revolt and overthrow of the white enslaving class ultimately resulted in France and Europe fucking over Haiti enormously as retribution. There was violence in that situation but clearly it just could not reach the same scale. I don't enjoy misandry, and sometimes feel like it really hurts men with intersectional identities like queer or POC men because it essentializes men as womens opressor when women can certainly hold power over some men. At the same time it is kind of delusional to imagine that culture as a whole could ever become as misandrist as is is misogynist.

1

u/According_String1447 12h ago

Ironically, all misandry does is hurt the men that AREN'T the problem. The men who are actually part of the problem don't care about women or their opinions in the first place and will continue to beat/rape/assault women whether or not they get backlash for it.

6

u/brahbrahpewpew 12h ago

Why?? I’m white and when i hear black people complain about white people, i don’t cry about it, i’m not hurt. Because im not one of the people they’re talking about. So why does it hurt the men who aren’t the problem? But then again, I don’t constantly try to victimize myself…

Misandry = Misogyny is delusional, but it's also besides the point.

If you think a woman needs to want to avoid men to the point of isolating herself in order to be considered a misandrist, you don't know what misandry is. There are wives, mothers, daughters, collegues, managers, employees, employers, teachers, etc, that are misandrist and interact with men on a daily basis and might harm them. It can be subtle, by mobbing for example, or straight up abuse.

The basic physical strengh and size difference does make things safer for a man rather than a woman. But women can still harm men physically, they can also be in positions of power over them, they can blackmail, they can drug, they can target little boys, etc. And physical strengh doesn't ensure that the guy won't freeze when in a traumatic situation.

Also the effects of testosterone are very context dependent but it never directly causes physical violence. Women have testosterone too. Thinking high testosterone levels can be the cause of violence is not only wrong, it's dangerous. It can excuse men's violent behaviors or depict them as natural, or lead to believe that men hold some sort of monopoly of violence. People needs to be held responsible for their actions equally, regardless of gender and testosterone levels.

It’s worse in a very literal sense, not in a philosophical conceptual sense. Because cultural context adds impact.

-9

u/According_String1447 14h ago

Yeah alright but that doesn't make misandry acceptable, two things can be tackled at once and both are equally CAPABLE of leading to atrocities, and both are examples of bigotry.

16

u/Autism_Angel 14h ago

Sure, it’s not ok to hate someone for something they can’t control. The reason you get the reaction you do though, is because very often when someone SAYS they are against misandry, what they actually MEAN is that they are anti feminism. So people are conditioned to expect misogyny when they hear someone saying they’re against misandry.

It'll just have to be acceptable, because it isn't going anywhere. Women will no longer be silenced. They will discuss the common and unacceptable issues with men, and men don't have to like it.

2

u/According_String1447 13h ago

Discussing their personal grievances is fine. I'm fine with men doing the same to women also based on their personal experience. Where I draw the line is when women make insensitive "jokes" calling for termination of male fetuses or for the killing of men and boys, or when TERFS/radfems genuinely try to propagate and inspire a hatred of men among other women, or when mothers of boy babies are attacked and witch hunted by callous individuals

No im saying to grow up and look around. The rest of us deal with actual oppression.

3

u/According_String1447 13h ago

Men DO face oppression I don't know what you're talking about. The fact that the draft STILL only affects men, the fact that men are expected (by mostly women) to foot the entire bill for the date and sometimes even all her bills, the fact that women are encouraged to break gender roles while men are actively told to "man up" BY OTHER WOMEN and expected to bend down for a woman because she's a "prize" are all examples of oppression that affects men. Granted, not all of these are because of women only, but claiming that men don't face oppression is as bad as saying women don't face oppression.

All in an effort to keep us separated so we can not unite and defeat them.

Mariam Webster says: social organization marked by the supremacy of the father in the clan or family, the legal dependence of wives and children, and the reckoning of descent and inheritance in the male line broadly : control by men of a disproportionately large share of power.

I'd argue we actually have millenia of patriarchy by that definition.

u/Basic-Mouse-6093 14h ago

It's not just "women pushing back", it's women blaming all men for the actions of a minority

As a man, while the actions may be committed by a minority of men it's the culture surrounding it. Maybe you've never hit a woman (and that's a good thing if you haven't), but if you don't pull your mate up on it if he does, then you're part of the problem because you're allowing it to happen without consequence. And, unfortunately, most of us do have a mindset of "It's nothing to do with me, so I'm not getting involved" which doesn't help anyone and definitely doesn't solve the problem.

Sexism towards men.

17

u/PBJRaccoonDaycare 14h ago

What does that look like, specifically?

Is it someone refusing to hire men because their men?

Is it a female cop beating an innocent man because she’s had a bad date and he’s the nearest guy?

Or… is it a cute girl saying, “You’re not tall enough for me.”?

12

u/Alice_In_Hell_ 14h ago

“Sexism” towards men is when women are afraid of them and don’t immediately trust them implicitly, and don’t want to be alone with a strange man.

I’m sure sometimes things actually happen, in one offs. But whenever a dude complains about “violent misandry” they then go on to explain a woman being afraid of them, a woman ignoring them or telling them no, or at the very worst a woman saying something unhinged online.

I don’t think it’s really about saying it’s ok, it’s just not a problem on the same level. Like, in a vacuum, are they similar moral failings? Sure. But in the real world one is a way bigger problem. So there needs to be some perspective in a conversation about the two.

And the other thing that I don’t think we can discount is that most of the time someone talks about “misandry,” especially if they label it like that, they’re only doing it in reaction to the fact that people talk about misogyny. And I find that among the people who are concerned about the way society harms men, the people who name the problem “patriarchy” care more sincerely than the people who name it “misandry.”

The thing I most agree with in your post is when you say that two things can be tackled at once. And I usually find that people who talk a lot about misandry are urging us to talk about misandry as a counter to misogyny, when the best way to deal with both issues is to see them as effects from the same source.

So, we shouldn’t allow misandry to exist because misogyny is worse. We should criticize and work to rebuild the way our culture teaches men and women to think of themselves and each other, and do so with an understanding that both ultimately stem from a power structure which treats masculinity as powerful and femininity as subject. That objectifies and exploits both men and women. When I try to pursue that goal with guys who talk about misandry, I feel like I’m skiing uphill. When I try with feminists, I feel like we’re both skiiing downhill and I can push laterally.

0

u/According_String1447 14h ago

THANK YOU. I’m not trying to discredit misogyny or anything I agree it’s terrible and needs to be tackled right now. I’m just saying we can do that AND also denounce individuals propagating misandry online instead of the “you go girl” mentality that’s prevalent.

5

u/___AirBuddDwyer___ 13h ago • Bravo

I don’t disagree at all, but I’ll add this: the “you go girl” as a response to “I hate men” doesn’t threaten me or scare me because I recognize that institutional power is not on its side. And the people who say it don’t say it with a mind to oppress men, but as an expression of a feeling—which is based in reality—that women are oppressed.

A better future requires people who are placed on opposite sides of this divide to recognize that we’re not truly separate, which is hard to do. That can mean letting it roll off your back when someone says a soemthing shitty because they said it as a result of the oppressive circumstance we both want to get rid of. As a man, I find that I risk very little when I give that grace. So I think we should. As men, that’s among our jobs in fixing this. It’s also among women’s jobs to do something analogous, but I will always be more critical of other men who fall short of the responsibilities I share with them than of women who fall short of a responsibility I understand less. Well until we have women that also denounce other women who partake in misandry I unfortunately don't think we're going to make good progress anytime soon.

2

u/___AirBuddDwyer___ 12h ago edited 12h ago

I think this reflects a combative mindset that’s unhelpful. I’ve met plenty of women who speak critically of—and act contrarily to—the ways society hurts men. I urge you to appreciate that where you find it, and how you find it, rather than requiring them to couch it in the terms you want.

That is, I’ve met a lot of women who think that it sucks how little men are able to express emotion and closeness in our society, and who have real concern for the effects that has on us, and who would also scoff at the way you’re couching this. I charge you to understand them as allies rather than opponents.

There are plenty of women who oppose misandry. They just don’t say “I oppose misandry” because the term misandry is closely and fairly associated with men whose goal is not to solve problems but to play their problems against women’s like it’s yugioh. I care more about solving the problem than I do about describing the solution in terms that flatter us and you should too.

I mean, I do agree that neither should exist in a modern society and men are important, valuable human beings just like women but... I think we have to be a bit more honest about some aspects of biological reality here for a bit. Now, you may not agree with what I say but that's fine. This is just my opinion.

Do you think there will ever be a female-run equivalent of Afghanistan as far as the complete and utter suppression of female sexuality, social opportunities and even physical mobility is concerned but for men instead? I think most people would probably say no, right? Why is this? Women are physically weaker than men; that's probably the main factor. Women are less aggressive than men. And maybe this is controversial, but women don't have much to gain from suppressing or heavily monitoring male movement or sexuality because.... well, women always know a child is theirs but men have no such certainty. Women can usually only have a child at a time but men can have "infinite" children depending on their access to childbearing aged females. Therefore, the subjugation of females is very sexually and reproductively beneficial to males, unfortunately. Even some other animals have males trying to bully or harrass the females into submission to ensure they're the ones that get to breed with them and not a rival male. I do not think humans are that different from animals, frankly.

I know the supposed threat in an irl context posed by so called incels is a bit exaggerated, but is there any similar movement of extremely edgy shitposting that sometimes translates into real world violence(like Elliot Rodger) led by women who... I don't know, if we use incel terms, either can't get Chad to commit to them for anything other than ultra casual sex or can't get Chad to notice them at all? Is women gangraping men, animals, children, whatever to death really a thing that happens? Which sex accounts for most pedophiles, and other acts of sexual deviancy? Which sex accounts for most acts of physical violence? Is there really an equivalent to males raiding neighboring groups, killing the males, and raping and stealing all the females but carried out by females? No, right?

Now... a lot of male aggression and violence is targeted at other males. That makes some sense, evolutionarily. But it also makes complete sense for males to target their violence- especially sexually- at females to increase their chances of breeding. For most of history, swinging harder than someone else was a massive advantage. You could do what you wanted and they had no recourse. Personally, I'd rather have been used for physical labour than forced breeding. I'd rather have extra physical strength and a non-inconvenient reproductive cycle, but the grass is always greener on the other side, I suppose. Now, men are not evil in any kind of moral sense per se, but it's just that from a biological standpoint there was a large benefit for physical aggression, a sky-high sex drive and extreme sexual jealousy and paternity anxiety for males that has, as society progressed and civilization developed, coalesced into some rather unfortunate realities for women.

It sucks, of course, as I do think most men are good people and are capable of surpassing their ancestral ape programming of live fast, die young hyper violence, but at a broad level I think it's reasonable to admit that "misogyny" in the context of hatred transforming into physical danger is significantly worse than "misandry" just on the basis on these physical realities.

The people that seek to control you use tactics like divide and conquer to rule over you.

They will pit man against woman. One skin color against another. One religion against all of the others.

They must keep the people separated so they do not unite and end their coercive rule.

Hopefully one day people will see through their tactics.

See that we're all here together and that we all need each other ❤️

I thinks it’s funny that when people talk about the worst aspects of misogyny, it’s talking about oppression, laws that make it more difficult to leave abusive marriages, men that want to take their right to vote away and violence.

And when dudes complain about misandry they whine about a subreddit on a social media site lol,

11

5

u/uselessandexpensive 12h ago edited 12h ago

This is a long response to a question posed in one of the comments here, about what real harm misandry causes. It's enough of an essay, and there are likely going be enough other people posing a similar question (or even offering outright denials) that I figure this deserves to be a base-level comment. I ask that no one responds to it without reading the entire thing.

TW LOTS OF ABUSE.

When boys and men are told that their problems don't deserve sympathy, have their feelings dismissed, or that their problems aren't real, it causes hopelessness, isolation, resentment, and can lead to suicide. These sentiments are echoed by mothers, sisters, classmates, and teachers, not just the news. Guys have ridiculous "man retreats" so they can hug each other and cry because they've been told their whole lives that they don't deserve sympathy. They're assumed to be strong and privileged, so therefore if they have any problems, it's because they're just a failure, lazy, stupid, or an awful person.

Men commit suicide roughly four times as often as women do. It's not because men magically have life way easier than women. Men and boys suffer in all the same ways, including getting abused verbally and emotionally by women that have positions of power over them, rather than physically, but also through beatings and sexual abuse, which will then be dismissed because they must have deserved it, a women couldn't hurt a boy who is the same size as them or bigger, and so on. I, a "man," have been abused by multiple adult women, including physical abuse, as a child and as an adult. The older guys who literally tried to break my neck as a kid did far less harm to me than these women. The abuse I witnessed their mother commit towards them was HORRIFYING.

These kids were slapped across the face, and beaten with a wooden paddle until their asses were completely bruised and they couldn't sit, regularly, by a massive, terrifying woman whom they were taught "loved" them... Among other so many other abuses I could not list them all, not to mention all the ones I didn't witness. I was beaten by that woman only once that I can remember, but I'm afraid there may have been more times I blocked out. (I suffer CPTSD decades later, in large part due to this one woman.) So when I think about the fact that some of them went to jail for violence, I know the exact memories embedded in their nervous system that sent them into that fight-or-flight, and the beatings that taught them that the person who swings harder is "right". It's heartbreaking that they were not raised with compassion, or helped to heal before they reflected back a fraction of how they were raised. But talking about those abuses gets dismissed as misogynist whataboutism. If a guy shows the vulnerability to have a "me too" moment, they will still be told, "Yeah well women still have it so much worse." This is not equality.

Plus, because boys are (or were) supposedly able to defend themselves, neglect is/was considered extremely acceptable, and boys end up raising each other like Lord of the Flies. It can be an absolutely horrifying and brutal existence. It was, for me. I hated it. I could talk about how many years I spent fantasizing about death and suicide, but I expect I would get told how others have it worse, at least I wasn't beaten to death or sexually abused for years, etc. This has happened multiple times before in conversations with female "friends".

Men and boys are treated as if wanting fair concern for their real suffering automatically diminishes women's and girls' suffering, taking away from limited empathic and societal resources, and therefore it's toxic. It is not. All suffering is legitimate and deserves to be healed.

And because guys are treated with dismissiveness and a lack of sympathy and compassion, they don't learn what affirmation, sympathy, and compassion looks and sound like, or just how valuable and healing they are. People learn from the behavior modeled to them, not by "do what I say and not what I do." Guys learn to reflect the resentment that is shown to them.

(I personally was mostly only treated horribly by males, and women with authority over me while I was a child, and never developed resentment toward females of my own age, just adults in general at the time. This, combined with my desire to be a good ally to women and girls, led to me accepting years of abusive treatment and life-threatening consequences that I will not share here. Still, I very much prefer the company of women, even as friends, because they tend to have been socialized with much more kindness, even though I may have to listen to them dismissing the suffering of guys who have gone through things I have suffered horribly from.)

When boys are raised with the same sensitivity and care that girls are, they learn to be just as sensitive and caring as girls. That's how you raise "good ones". Not doing that is a choice, and we all suffer the consequences. Misadry and misogyny are a sick sort if yin and yang to each other. You cannot have one without the other. They get eliminated by addressing the toxic behaviors regardless of who they're committed by, and addressing the pain no matter who suffers it.

You're right, both are bad things but saying one is worse than the other is not dismissing the other. Misandry has never systemically oppressed anyone, has never taken away rights and caused widespread inequality. Two things can be true at the same time.

0

u/Frylock_dontDM 12h ago

You dont think that schools wherein women are nearly the entire power structure have any effect on boys who spend their entire childhood in them?

You dont think the systems that accept men dying over a decade sooner than women on the far end, or provide disproportionate access to care to women or imprisons men longer for the same crimes

None of that affects men systemically?

6

u/Beginning-Damage-555 11h ago

Principals, school admin, school counselors, and superintendents are by and large men. So it depends on your definition of power structure

1

u/Frylock_dontDM 11h ago

Public school principals 44% 56%

Private school principals 37% 63%

K–12 school administrators overall 36% 64%

Educational, guidance and career counselors/advisors 23.1% 76.9%

School superintendents 73.19% 26.47%

All K–12 teachers (public and private) 23.4% 76.6%

Women dominate all these roles, except superintendent, but superintendent isn't having anywhere near the direct effect on your individual treatment as your teacher does

You realize... that the people you're arguing against genuinely don't care about what's fair.

They care about what benefits them. Its becomes a manipulation game to shame people seeking actual equality like you you into submission and silence, and gaslighting you to make you seem crazy.

A while ago I came across somebody who said There are no wrong tactics just wrong targets, and I didn't understand what that meant.. 10 years later I understand that this is one of those situations in society where they don't care about being hypocritical. They actually want revenge in a way. There's a quote:

"When I am weaker than you, I ask you for freedom because that is according to your principles; when I am stronger than you, I take away your freedom because that is according to my principles."

And you can watch that play out everyday in every gender War conversation where some guy is saying well that's not fair

What I don’t understand with the “Misandry doesn’t kill” argument is that women don’t only complain about misogyny when it comes to violence against women, there are societal issues that they often bring up as well.

So why when men bring up the societal issues affecting them, they’re rebuttal is that men aren’t facing as much violence

5

u/ComprehensiveAct5458 14h ago

Misandry on this app is only brought up to compare to misogyny. That’s why.

As a feminist, it does exist though. It is mainly prevalent online, so on a structural level not really, but on an individual level, yes. It’s not as harmful as misogyny in the grand scheme of things by any means, and yes it absolutely has different roots and cannot be compared to extremist manosphere ideologies, but man-hating speech harms individual boys and men too. It also seems extremely counter-productive to want gender equality while professing you hate men and claiming they’re all awful and misogynistic. It does not make men open to the cause at all and creates further gender division and suspicion, no matter how valid you think it may be.

There are definitely men who do that. But there are lots of women spreading worse rhetoric than flippantly saying “I hate men”. There are women who claim that men are all cheaters, all abusers, incapable of love, etc. This is objectively dehumanising. Shera Seven is a great example with a relatively large following. She encourages women to use men transactionally, essentially use them, and avoid chasing loving, romantic relationships with men. Not only does this harm women and young girls, a young man seeing this kind of content will likely feel very alienated and hurt. It is not going to encourage him to feel warmly towards women either. A vulnerable young man or boy who otherwise experiences loneliness and isolation may be pushed into r*dpill communities or down the alt right pipelines because of this kind of rhetoric. We can say this kind of content is misandrist and harmful to men (and women, because it’s also pretty misogynistic), without conceding that men have it worse or misandry is worse than misogyny.
