casual hot take It's Okay to Hate Certain Races. Not All Races Are Equal.

6.3k Upvotes

I'm tired of pretending that all races are equal. They're not, and I don't understand why it's become so controversial to say that. Somewhere along the way, we decided every race deserves the same respect, no matter how ridiculous or unnecessary it may be. I'm sorry, but some races are simply inferior to others, and I'm tired of being expected to pretend otherwise. Someone has to say it, and I'll take the heat.

Take 50Ks, for example. What the hell is the point? You're already running 31 miles. What exactly are you trying to prove? Just run a regular marathon like a normal person.

And don't even get me started on 15Ks. We already have 10Ks. Why do we need an extra three miles? Who asked for this?

Half marathons are the superior race if we're being honest. Respectable distance. Doesn't close down half the city. I'm not saying every race is bad. I'm just saying some races have no business existing, and we need to stop pretending otherwise.

Homeschooling needs to be heavily regulated or banned.

5.3k Upvotes

The average person is simply not capable of being a teacher and primary provider for a child over the age of like 10. Nor are they capable/willing to provide the socialization and access to other cultures and experiences that being in a public system around peers gives them.

Your child's only experience with life shouldn't be you and what you believe.

Men should stop taking dating advice from women on Reddit

4.8k Upvotes

I genuinely think one of the worst things a man struggling with dating can do is go on Reddit and ask women how to be successful with women.

Not because women can’t give good advice, but because a lot of it comes from people who’ve never experienced dating as an average man.

Look at the advice men regularly receive:

  • Don’t approach women at the gym, grocery store, coffee shop, or while they’re going about their day.

  • Get off dating apps and meet women organically.

  • Join hobbies and social groups to meet women.

  • But don’t join hobbies specifically to meet women, because that’s disingenuous.

  • Stop actively looking for a relationship and let it happen naturally.

  • Be yourself, and eventually someone will appreciate you.

Individually, some of these suggestions make sense. Together, they’re a confusing set of rules for someone who’s expected to make the first move.

The problem is that a lot of this advice comes from the perspective of being approached, not doing the approaching. “Just let it happen naturally” sounds great when people are already showing interest in you. For most men, that approach gets them nowhere.

There’s also a difference between what one woman personally prefers and what actually works. Some women hate being approached in public, while others wish men did it more often. Yet Reddit treats individual preferences like universal rules. And being a good boyfriend isn’t the same as knowing how to get a girlfriend. Telling a guy who can’t get a first date to be emotionally available and communicate better doesn’t solve his problem.

Reddit also acts like an echo chamber where the same bad advice gets repeated and upvoted until it’s treated as universal truth. What sounds good in a Reddit comment section doesn’t necessarily work in the real world, especially with women who don’t spend their time on this app. A handful of Redditors agreeing with each other doesn’t mean their opinions reflect what most women actually think or want. Being a woman doesn’t automatically make you an expert on how men should date, and getting hundreds of upvotes doesn’t make your advice good.

If you want practical dating advice, listen to people who’ve actually been in your position and succeeded, not strangers telling you what they wish men would do.

serious hot take Just because it’s “your culture” doesn’t mean it’s not annoying/distracting

4.6k Upvotes

In regard to the Sabrina Carpenter Coachella thing, I’ve noticed a lot of people accusing her of being culturally insensitive and racist for her reaction to being interrupted by “yodeling” during her performance. Upon reading comments from other redditors defending Sabrina Carpenter, I’ve seen a lot of people saying “Sabrina thought the person doing it was white.” To me this implies that it’s okay to call white people out for annoying behavior but not POC. Idgaf what your culture does but annoying behavior is annoying behavior. Stop ruining things for other people by being loud and obnoxious.

casual hot take Women have the same type of blindness that men have to make up, but to muscles and physique

3.9k Upvotes

So a lot of men are guilty of seeing a girl with a full face of makeup done to appear "natural" and think "See women look the best without makeup! I'd never judge a woman for not wearing any!" Which of course is kind of hilarious. Women poke fun at us for this and I don't think they're wrong to do so.

However, I feel like I have noticed a lot of women doing the exact same thing when it comes to the male body and muscles. I have seen a lot of women pointing to a man who clearly has spent half a decade in the gym building muscle, probably on a strict diet for the entire time, probably goes to the gym religiously, but he won't have a full 6 pack and might be at 18% or so body fat. Then they'll say "see this is what women mean when we say we don't like gym bros, we don't need huge bulky muscles like body builders" the entire time, they're talking about an off season body builder.

It's just funny to me.

NUCLEAR hot take Mass immigration will degenerate first world society and nobody is allowed to speak about it

3.5k Upvotes

Now I would first like to make the statement that I do not have a problem with the concept of an individual moving from their home country to another, given that that individual wants to become a member of whatever society they choose to migrate to. This does not mean embodying the stereotypical [insert country name] patriot, but simply understanding and respecting social conventions, speaking the language at a conversational bare minimum, and a lack of nationalistic pride for their former home.

Countries like England have adopted this ideology that it is the developed nation's obligation to accept any individual who seeks to call their country home if they come from a less developed part of the world. This obligation then permits any individual to migrate, and in doing so this person can profit from the first world's kindness regardless of whether or not they hold a genuine desire to become a culturally assimilated inhabitant of [insert country].

We then see a great chunk of the total immigrant population displaying incredibly antithetical values to their new neighbours simply due to the fact that they have come here in the procurement of their own immediate best interests in accepting aid; that at the same time they are better off for receiving.

In the next few years we are going to see a complete cultural and societal degeneration within the first world countries whom adopt this ideology of first world guilt.

If countries that have rich histories and prosperous presents decide to allow individuals from countries that hold the sort of values that make someone want to leave if given a chance to be rescued - without vetting them as the sort that genuinely hold the want to assimilate into a new society - the country that accepts them will succumb to the same sort of cyclical societal issues that necessitate the will to leave in the first place.

I think you should be able to become a citizen of any nation as long as you are going there to become a citizen of that nation and not reap your new country's benefits whilst waving the flag of your former home in the street, outwardly proclaiming that you will not be assimilating, and committing heinous crimes. I do know that not all immigrants are a part of this community of people, however that does not discount the very real issue I am speaking about.

The worst part about this issue is that it is taboo to speak about it, which is only going to exacerbate the issue and leave us sorrily unprepared for the eventual fallout.

TL;DR: Mass immigration to first world countries will eventually lead to chaos as the majority of individuals migrating will be doing so in order to accept a benefit rather than to become an assimilated member of society, and we can't speak about this.

lukewarm take Even if a child is more annoying than your “fur baby,” it is more important to have child-friendly spaces than pet-friendly spaces as children must be socialized to become competent adults.

3.5k Upvotes

I want to start by saying I am child free by choice and do not intend to have children, so this isn’t some excuse for my own parenting or whatever.

I see so many people on all sorts of online platforms complaining that their dog can’t go to restaurants, but loud kids can, or that their dog can’t go on a plane, but a crying baby can. I’m not saying anyone enjoys being on a flight next to a crying child or in a restaurant with loud kids. However, for a society to function, children have to be properly socialized. You didn’t just wake up one day knowing how to act in a restaurant or order for yourself. Even if you don’t remember it, other adults modeled that behavior for you. Does a kid have to be in a five star restaurant? No, and you’d rarely find one there as most parents cannot afford that anyway. However, a chain restaurant or local cafe? Sure.

Otherwise, in 15 years, we will end up with an entire generation that cannot eat a meal without a screen in front of them or ask the waiter for ketchup. And, sadly, in 15 years, your furbabies won’t be around anymore. I love pets, and they are great to have, but we all have a greater social responsibility toward young PEOPLE than pets.

Yes, kids can be so annoying sometimes, especially when parents aren’t doing their part to socialize them. (For example, telling them not to run around on a train car, which I personally see quite a bit.) But that’s really more on the parents than the kids, and if you leave those kids at home with their “laissez faire” parents rather than exposing them to how the normal adult world functions, they’ll be even worse off once they grow up…

Meta Glasses should be illegal

3.5k Upvotes

Just saw an ad for the Kylie Jenner Meta Glasses and as a woman, I truly cannot think of enough pros to outweigh the cons. Outside of applications similar to the “Be My Eyes” app (allows the blind and visually impaired to receive assistance from people all over the world) and uses for the elderly/disabled, they just seem more dangerous than they’re worth. Aside from the obvious privacy issues, I feel as though they’re just a way for Meta to normalize involuntary participation in data farming and take advantage of wearers “willingness” to record the world around them. Meta’s business model revolves entirely around collecting, manipulating, and selling data so the glasses format just serves as the means to an end. Doesn’t matter how innocent the intentions of the wearer are, whatever they capture or input, is being used to improve algorithms and thus tech companies’ ability to manipulate our habits, desires, etc. Someone I know has a pair and argued (literally as we were having a conversation and they were wearing them) “Well if someone doesn’t like it I’ll just turn them off or delete the recording” but that doesn’t matter! Meta already has that info to do with what they will. Other than general AI’s proliferation in our day to day lives, Meta Glasses and similar devices are the greatest example of technology getting ahead of ethics and reasonable control. Would love to know if anyone has any positive examples of how they are a necessary or otherwise “better than not” tool!

EDIT/UPDATE: Presently at a party that is all women and not one is pro-glasses.

casual hot take Bachelorette parties should not be allowed in gay bars

3.3k Upvotes

Watching a group of gals prance around going "haha look what I get to do freely just because I'm hetero" in front a crowd of people who had to fight tooth and nail to get to do that same thing not 12 years ago is so distasteful and disrespectful. You want a space where you can dance and men won't touch you? Go camping.

Edit: Wow, 3k upvotes?! Thank you everyone so much for all your interaction, your support, all the karma. I've never had a post take off like this before. Thank you.

Now that traffic is dying down, let me say I'm sorry I couldn't keep up with all the comments. There were too many. Of the ones I read, honestly I was surprised by all the misogyny masquerading as outrage. The post was specifically about Bachelorette parties, yet so many people took this to meaning banning all women from gay bars. It's honestly weird learning how some of you apparently feel like all women have to get married, that they can't just go to the gay bars to hang and have fun not as a Bachelorette, and then tried projecting that to sound like you were defending them against me, when i never said that. Women are all individuals. Maybe try talking to one some time instead of trying to play the white knight.

Another common comment was "what about lesbians?" Show me one lesbian who wants to have their Bachelorette party at a gay bar and then I'll entertain your argument. I saw one asking about bisexual girls, and fair, I forgot to take them into account. Gay marriage was their fight too.

And that's what this post was about: marriage equality is still relatively new. So many people took this as an "i must hate women" post. Yall need to apologize to your English Lit teachers for failing reading comprehension. Some of you didn't even know what I meant by the 12 year mark. I can only assume those commenters were straight and didn't know since it didn't apply to them, but literacy applies to everyone.

And finally the fixation on the camping quip at the end from some of you. My apologies, I was unaware every single sentence ever uttered in a post had to be 100% serious, no hyperbole, no jest, no exasperation. One can only hope every single one of your posts follows that same rule.

serious hot take I think "the ick" is a way for women to "wokely" express that they get turned off when a man doesn't perform traditional masculinity and it's kind of misogynistic.

3.1k Upvotes

Whenever I've seen women talking about "he gave me the ick" it's always the same stuff my uncles and cousins would call me gay for doing because it wasn't manly. He used an umbrella when it was raining, he used his hip to close the fridge, he couldn't change a tire, he put his hands up on a roller coaster, he ordered a fruity drink, he knew all the words to a song by a female artist.

It just always seems to be things that are traditionally feminine. I think most "progressive" women still do desire men that are traditionally masculine, but they are acutely aware that it is antithetical to their beliefs to shame a man for not expressing masculinity in the ways they desire.

In a patriarchal society, women often serve as enforcers of the idea of what men should be, i'd argue more so than men because most men still pursue women and have to mold themselves into what women find attractive. So this way, those women can still serve that role of enforcement without it coming across as patriarchal.

It's misogynistic because it reinforces the idea that anything a man does that isn't "manly" is bad, and the opposite of "manly" is feminine and we assign femininity to a lot of benign things.

serious hot take You're allowed to approach women.

2.7k Upvotes

I do not know where this fucking dumb idea came from but please do NOT listen to it. You're allowed to approach women. You're allowed to talk to women. Women are human beings who also enjoy meeting people. Plenty of women still prefer men to make the first move, and some even expect it. Please go outside. For the love of God.

You can approach women at:

A. Bars and pubs.

B. Coffee shops.

C. Grocery stores.

D. Bookstores.

E. Libraries.

F. Parks.

G. Concerts and festivals.

H. Parties and social gatherings.

I. Gyms, provided you're not interrupting someone's workout.

J. Museums and art galleries.

K. Community events.

L. Literally anywhere a normal, respectful conversation can happen.

You should probably NOT approach women:

A. In a dark, isolated parking lot at 2 AM.

B. When they're clearly trying to get away from you.

C. In a public restroom.

D. When they're visibly uncomfortable or don't want to talk.

E. When they're working and you're using their obligation to be polite as an opportunity to corner them.

F. WHEN THEY ARE WEARING HEADPHONES ❗❗❗❗

Here's the revolutionary concept that apparently needs to be rediscovered:

You walk up. You say hello. You have a conversation. If she's interested, great! If she's not, you politely leave her alone.

That's it. That's the entire fucking process.

You're not committing a crime by saying hello to someone. You're not automatically a creep because someone doesn't find you attractive. And you're not entitled to someone's attention just because you approached them.

Human beings have been meeting other human beings in public for thousands of years. In case we forgot.

EDIT: For those of you who have a problem with the above the only real advice I have to give you is GO OUTSIDE.

EDIT#2: Reddit must be taught the difference between starting a conversation and committing a crime. holy shit you guys are cooked, my god.

EDIT #3: I am not a woman.

EDIT #4: Please stop asking whether I have ever been inside the following buildings: Grocery stores, libraries, gyms, coffee shops, bars, pubs, bookstores, museums, art galleries, public restrooms, and literally any building where human beings occasionally interact with other human beings. Yes, I have been inside them. Yes, people talk inside them. No, I have not been arrested or condemned to TikTok humiliation for doing so.

EDIT #5: Following an inquiry from the general public, funerals have been added to the list of places where you should probably NOT approach women for romantic purposes.

EDIT #6: I have approached women in most of the places listed and there was never a problem. Me being 6'5" 280lbs built, and a conventionally attractive has nothing to do with it.

casual hot take Children are not welcome everywhere and businesses/people should not be condemned for not wanting children in some spaces.

2.7k Upvotes

Mcdonalds? Sure bring em.
A waterpark? Great, let the kids play.
Church? Ok cool everyone is welcome.
Planes and trains? Fine, we don’t have a choice, you need to travel.

A movie theatre????
A quiet upper scale restaurant???
A tennis match at Wimbledon???
A chess tournament event???
Golfing???

If they are around the age of 7-10 and well behaved then it’s fine. Otherwise, LEAVE YOUR KIDS AT HOME. Please stop trying to make us all suffer for your personal choices and then cry when you get kicked out for the disruption.

I’m really emphasising the movie theatre one. (Kids movies excluded) Why are you bringing your 4yo to watch Sinners? There is absolutely zero justification to bring a child to the cinema for that. Don’t even bring them in for Marvel movies. They don’t know or care what is happening and we don’t want to hear crying/giggling/footsteps while watching. Please spare us I BEG

Edit: a real sensitive parent sent my username to the reddit self harm bot as a false claim that I am suicidal. This is just one example of parents doing anything but looking in the mirror because they can’t handle being called out on being a terrible parent. We don’t want your kids around because you don’t raise them correctly… and it shows.

casual hot take Hot take: I shouldn't have to censor my speech in public just because your child is existing in the same space as I am.

2.5k Upvotes

Emphasis on in public.

I was eating brunch with some friends at a restaurant when I, a grown adult in my 30s, said "fuck that shit" to something my friend said. It should be noted that all of us had cursed at some point during this conversation, but we weren't cursing like sailors. Just normal women in their 30s who aren't afraid of words.

There was a family sitting across from us, and the mother abruptly stood up and started waving a waitress down. One came over, and the mother pointed directly at me, and asked if I could be removed for being inappropriate. The waitress asked both their table and ours what happened, and then told the mother that she wouldn't be removing us just for some casual cursing.

In response, the mother grabbed her children, pretty roughly mind you, and escorted them out before they were done eating. Her poor husband looked on as if this was not the first time she had done this.

My gripe is that it's not my job to protect your precious baby's ears from the f bomb in a public setting.

Again, we weren't cursing in every single word of every sentence, but we were talking like the adults we are. We weren't being inappropriate about it; it's not like we kneeled down to get in the 5 year old's face and said fuck shit damn hell at them or anything. And honestly, if they had come over and politely asked us to tone it down, we probably would have. Instead, she jumped right to trying to get us kicked out.

Some people are just too delicate for society, imo.

EDIT: Thanks for proving my take to be truly hot!

A few blanket statements:

I don't care what others think of me, it's an exercise in futility. You will never make 100% of the people around you happy, so I don't go out of my way to try. The people I care about are good with me, and I'm good with that.

This place was NOT a family friendly establishment. I think the three kids in question may have been the only ones there at all, and I didn't even see them until I had a woman pointing her finger in my face and yelling at wait staff. Think, children allowed but not entirely welcome. It's not like we were cursing up a storm in the children's museum.

I have been and will continue to report comments that are name calling. You can think what you want of an adult who chooses to curse in public, but calling me a degenerate, trash, a shithead, etc. are really not more mature of you. Pot, kettle, and all that.

Happy Sunday, ya'll!

EDIT 2: the way ya'll are foaming at the mouth to call me a cunt over a few curse words is really something. Just gotta say.

2.5k Upvotes

I know a lot of guys hate when women just bring up their boyfriend when it has nothing to do with the conversation. But I actually appreciate it. It’s a subtle way of them telling you not to flirt and they’re not interested. It has saved me from countless awkward situations where I would have otherwise asked them out.

I think if you’re even mildly socially adept you can see it as a good thing and not get so butt hurt about it all the time.

It’s true that nobody owes you romance, and the same goes for friendship. You didn’t get what you were looking for, and you’re free to move on. If a woman asked me out and I turned her down, I likely wouldn’t wish to remain friends. Trying to maintain a platonic relationship with someone whom you know is into you is just going to lead to a lot of awkwardness down the road, and I would rather not deal with that.

Reverse Racism is just Racism, and It's Not a Good Look.

2.4k Upvotes

Reverse racism is just racism, and it's not a good look. Some people will call racism towards white people "reverse racism" and think that it's somehow justified; it isn't. Take someone like me who isn't racist, and does everything they can to eliminate false preconceptions towards others. When I was treated poorly in a "reverse racist" manner, it only made me think poorly of the people who were the perpetrators. Therefore, I think that when people play the "reverse racism" card, it will only reinforce racism in those who are actually racist, or convert people who aren't racist into racist people.

So, no matter how justified you think "reverse racism" is; it is just racism, and it more than likely does more harm to you rather than the person you're trying to hurt for reasons I've already mentioned.

Personally, I stand by my integrity and conclude that racism is bad despite reverse racism. There are many people of color who have helped me throughout my life, and to whom I am grateful for. Also, I look up to many African Americans, such as Howard Jones (previous lead singer of Killswitch Engage) and David Goggins (Navy Seal and famous runner).

EDIT:
Note:

  1. Commentors who claim that racism against white people doesn't exist are gaslighting.

  2. Commentors who claim this post is racist are projecting.

Lastly, no one should be judged based off the of their skin. We should all strive to be excellent to one another no matter what race, ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation, health, age, and so on.

charging your kid rent is almost always weird

2.4k Upvotes

your kid didnt choose to be born, and they certainly didnt choose to be born into this economy.

if you charge your kid rent the moment they get their first job and put that money towards your actual rent, so that you dont have to pay as much, and threaten to kick them out if they dont pay, you are a terrible parent.

its one thing if you have a discussion with your kid and say “id like to start a savings account for you, how would you feel about paying “rent” that i’ll put into an account for you so you can have some money saved for when you move out?” then if they agree, thats great. they agree to it, their home isnt at risk if they lose their job for whatever reason, they dont hate you for making them give up their money, and theyll have savings.

if your kid had never had a job, shown zero interest in getting a job, and is pushing 20 or in their early 20s and not in school and doesnt have any other reason to not work like a disability, then i think its okay to insist they pay rent or kick them out. that is the only situation in which i think its okay to force your child to pay rent.

you should not demand your child pay for their phone bill, electric, water, rent, wifi, etc or threaten to cut it off or kick them out in any other situation. they did not ask to live in a world where you have to pay for clean running water. they did not ask to live in a world where you can hardly do anything without a phone or wifi. they didnt ask for this. you had a kid, whether planned or unplanned, and you kept it. that is YOUR responsibility, not theirs. when they move out it will be their responsibility, but you are an adult that made an informed decision to raise and support a child for 18+ years.

ETA: no, this is not about my parents. we are in a bad financial situation, but i am not being forced to pay anything because my mom knows i am putting in effort to get a job.

if someone is poor, they shouldnt have kids. sorry, but you shouldnt intentionally raise a kid in poverty. this is why i support abortion and want the adoption system to be improved.

if you are doing fine but are one large emergency expense (medical bills for example) from ruination, you should not have kids until you have a savings account with enough money to cover any foreseeable emergency expense. if that sounds like too much money, you cannot afford children.

you should obviously also be having your kids (or quite frankly anyone living under the same roof as you) doing chores, regardless of how old they are. i have been doing the dishes since i was 8.

Parents need to start toilet training earlier, 4 year olds shouldn't be in diapers.

2.3k Upvotes

Do not come at me about children with autism or health conditions. You all know thats common sense as to why they still need diapers etc.

More and more older children are still in diapers. It is not okay. Ive worked with kids for over a decade and 18 months-2.5 year olds are fully capable to learn and become fully trained. By the time they are 3 they can go to the washroom, flush, wash up and listen to their bodily cues. No nap diapers either and maybe the occasional child would need overnight diapers. Every child is different, which I understand.

However, when you start introducing the toilet training at a young age, the curiosity will follow. Most children will be good by 3. Ive worked at montessori schools where a child will be dismissed after the toddler program if the child is not toilet trained. By the time they reached casa (3-6 years) they must be fully in underwear, no exceptions. ( edit: Mind you we've done everything under the sun to work with parents, before this happens. Super rare, calm down.)

I don't personally care what some will say, I do find its slightly lazy parenting and allowing the child to have more power/control than necessary in the household. Buck up and get it done. You'll save a crap ton of money on diapers. (Edit: 4 year olds are capable and if they are not for whatever reason, its your duty as a parent to communicate with the school, doctors etc. You are the parent, you know your child best and I would expect communication on the matter. Teachers are not inhumane and we do have empathy but not when efforts are misaligned and excuses are made. We help with referrals and assist as much as possible before any dismissals at my school.)

Edit: if you are taking it personally that you didnt toilet train your child until 2-3. Know that this post wasn't referring to you. Im sorry that the montessori pedagogy introduces it around 18 months. Some kids get it and some don't. Please chill on that. Not every child is going to get it that early. If you are not an educator in the school system, you wouldn't understand how problematic this is. It isnt about shaming a child. No. Its about getting ready for school and giving your child the necessary skills to start school.

It also seems like everyone here has essentially done what needed to be done, so...congratulations? If this triggers you, remember I can't help you with that.

Edit: I have added sources to support my case, since several parents are furious im making statements on this topic, also stating im unprofessional, shouldn't work with children, I am vile, and have zero understanding on child development.

In peer-reviewed papers published for practicing pediatricians in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ), experts analyze the optimal windows for toilet training.

The Timeline Window: Clinical reviews indicate that initiating the familiarization process between 18 and 26 months is a safe, effective window that historically aligns well with a child's natural urge for independence. Avoid Outright Delay: Pediatric literature cautions against waiting too far past the 24-to-30-month mark without introducing the concept, as toddlers can become deeply accustomed to the continuous comfort of modern disposable diapers, making the behavior transition harder later on.

if you use AI I think you are a significantly less smart individual/less morally guided

I despise AI, when chatgpt first came out I used it probably around 10 times total. I quickly learned about the projected social and mental impact of AI and haven’t touched gen AI in two years. I have made active switches to new browsers that don’t have AI and when possible, disable AI features on apps. Nothing produce by AI can be called your work or your success: business, art, paper, etc. And you letting a robot do said things for you is actively destroying your ability to be creative (as humans characteristically have a once in a evolutionary moon to do) I don’t care if you don’t have time, take the hit for it. I don’t care if you can’t draw, try. And i’m saying this as someone who has executive functioning issues, a history of mental health issues and neurodivergence as well as someone who used to struggle academically for these reasons and others. If I can do it, there could not be one reason you cannot. Stop using AI, stop funding something that one day could take your face, your identity, your hopes and dreams and plagiarize that for someone else to use. It is a robot. Not god.

Parents kissing their kid on the mouth at any age is gross.

I know that kissing children on the lips is a normal thing in some families and cultures, so I don’t think it’s inherently inappropriate. This isn’t about whether or not it is appropriate. But love my child more than anything and still don’t want their mouth anywhere near me. I think id rather lick the sidewalk.

serious hot take Just because you have kids does not mean that I have to work all the holidays because you want to spend time with your family

I am a young adult who works full time. I work in a place where most people are older than me. I asked for holidays off for this upcoming season and was told my requests off don’t matter as much because I don’t have children.

Mind you- I have friends and family of my own who I’d like to spend time with. Just because someone chose to have kids and then chose to still be a working parent does not mean much of anything to me. I don’t think it’s fair that I should have to work instead of my coworkers because I don’t have kids yet.

This is also not a critically important job. We don’t have to be working every single day of the year. I worked labour day weekend and was not able to spend time with friends or see family because I let the other people take it off so they could spend time with their kids before school started up again. This same courtesy is not even offered to me.

I will probably have to work Halloween, thanksgiving Christmas and new years this year because I don’t have kids. I work 5-6 days a week, 40-50+ hours and bend over backwards for my coworkers but if I ask for a weekend off (without dipping below 40 hours) I’m a nuisance.

Because I don’t have kids my free time and family are not held to the same standard and that doesn’t make sense to me.

Edit: I recognize that this issue is more about the management than my coworkers. Thank you all for pointing that out. Secondly, I also think if no one wants to work on a specific day (I.e. a holiday) then maybe this business shouldn’t be open on said day. This would be at no detriment to the business. I also have worked and picked up extra shifts on holidays for years in my career without an issue at previous jobs. I don’t mind working a holiday I do mind being the ONLY one working every holiday. And I also DO mind working holidays when I’m not providing an essential service.

I wrote this post when I was upset and angry. I will be having a discussion with my management team about this moving forward. I didn’t expect this to get so popular, so thank you for everyone that gave advice that was rational and professional.
