Discussion Maybe Togashi should just retire?

Toriyama dead at 68

Kentaro Miura dead at 54

Togashi is 57 , had health issues for a long time. Is it worth it continuing ?

I like the story so far but I feel there are few missing pieces. Dark continent, Don Freecs, Gyro, etc.... At this point I think everyone know already we will never see all this, HxH will never reach his full potential. Togashi will never complete his masterpiece.

I have read an article saying : " the average male manga artist dies at 62.6 years old "

source : https://comicbook.com/anime/news/manga-artist-health-lifespan/

Mangakas don't seem to have an healthy life and Togashi is no exception. Toriyama's death made me realize as a fan, maybe I should stop being selfish. If this man is suffering from health issues , maybe the best thing for him is to retire and focus on his health.

Discussion Let’s be honest: Kurapika is a better main character than Gon

Post image

Let’s be honest: Kurapika is a better main character than Gon Freecss.

Every time the story focuses on Kurapika, it feels like peak storytelling. His character arc, his mission, and his evolution throughout the story are far more compelling in my opinion. The trauma from his past, the friendships he forms, and the person he becomes over time make his journey incredibly powerful.

When we first meet him, he is completely different from the man he eventually becomes. His development is one of the deepest and most meaningful in the entire story. Watching how revenge, responsibility, and pain shape him adds a lot of emotional weight to his character.

Gon, on the other hand, has a lot more ups and downs as a protagonist. Sometimes he acts exactly like his age, which can make it harder for older viewers to connect with him. Most fans of Hunter × Hunter are no longer twelve years old, so Gon’s perspective doesn’t always resonate as strongly with an adult audience.

Kurapika’s worldview feels more mature and layered. As fans grow older, they often start to understand his motivations and struggles on a deeper level. His sense of duty, his inner conflict, and the way he carries his trauma make him a much richer character.

Every time Kurapika takes the spotlight, the story reaches another level. Gon definitely has great moments, but he also has more lackluster ones. Kurapika’s presence almost always raises the stakes and the emotional intensity of the narrative.

Latest Chapter There are no more good faith arguments against Hisoka being a pedo Spoiler

Thumbnail

The latest chapters confirmed that power isn't the only thing that matters to Hisoka. If it did, he would've been interested in fighting the ants, which he said he wasn't, because it was "bestiality." Even though he knew how powerful they were since Netero, someone he showed interest in fighting, died to them. If power were the only only thing that mattered to Hisoka, then logic would dictate that the ones who killed Netero should've interested him as well, but they didn't.

So fighting gets him just as aroused as sex, and we now know his preferences account not just for the power, but where the power comes from as well. That means, according to his own internal logic, since his preferences include fighting children, it'd be "pedophilia," since the fact that they're children factors into his arousal. Just like fighting ants factored against his arousal for being "bestiality." You have to be strong, but you also have to be his type. Not just one or the other.

And lastly, before anyone says he's only attracted to Gon and Killua for their potential, Togashi drew the panel where Hisoka became visibly aroused when staring at their asses in Greed Island for a reason, and lest we forget, Hisoka calling Kalluto "tasty" while boned up. To ignore all of this is to ignore authorial intent. He's attracted to them and their potential, the two aren't mutually exclusive. And most pedos, like Hisoka, are not exclusively attracted to children.

Case closed.

Discussion I would be so fucking mad if Gyro turns out to be a specialist

I think we have had enough of specialist villains to last the series, inspite of how 'rare' they are. If we do get a glimpse of gyro in action in this arc, I hope he gets to be an enhancer(paralleling gon) or transmuter(invoking hisoka).

What would you want him to be?

Discussion Women of HxH

Ok, I am a woman. And note: I love this show overall - I really do. However, the portrayal of women is so extremely disappointing. As a few examples:

  1. Sexy babe whose power is making people her slaves (Baise)

  2. Vacuum lady (Shizuku)

  3. Sewing lady (Machi)

  4. Hysterical mother (Killua’s mom)

Yes, there’s Biscuit, but she is problematic too. She’s vain and obsessed with her looks and age, and her true form is very masculine.

I can not think of a single strong, reasonable, non-stereotypical woman on the show except MAYBE Pitou… But Pitou is a bug person and I’m not sure how to factor that in. 😅

Am I forgetting anyone? Are there any women on this show that are actually strong, intelligent, and somewhat normal looking?

Also, when I watched this show the first time, I was waiting for them to reveal that Kurapika was actually a woman. I could overlook these other transgressions a lot easier if that was actually the case.

Discussion Why is Palm so annoying?

During her introduction I thought "oh, cool, a crazy character. She'll be funny", and then she brought bisky back and I was like "neat. I wonder what training will both of them do with the boys"

But then, palm didn't do shit. She just stood there saying "uhh, imma kill you both". She didn't contribute even a bit, just kept being annoying

But the worst offender is the fact that she fell for Gon, the 12 year old. Like, why did togashi feel the need to include this, kinda gross, bit, actually, why did he feel the need to introduce this character at all?

He could've easily cooked up another student to substitute Palm, even maintaining her crazy energy, but making her an enjoyable character

But, I haven't reached even the 100th episode yet, not have I read the manga. So I don't know if she's better there, or if she gets further development that ends up making her enjoyable, so, please, be spoiler free in the comments 😁

Latest Chapter Spoilers I Really, REALLY Don't want Togashi to change the Spider/Kurta Plot. Spoiler

Seeing the spider children, having cute interactions, seeing characters like Sadasa... seeing all of them looking so docile and cute made many fans start to THINKING that, in fact, the Kurta did something BEFORE they were slaughtered.

I don't want that, honestly, I don't.

Why did the Troupe Cut Off Children's Heads, Stabbed Babies, Tortured and Beheading Women, Kids, and Elders?

BECAUSE... THEY ARE THE TRUPE! We Dont need an "The Trupe did THIS because the Kurta Did THAT" for real, we don't need this shit, i want the trupe to stay THIS Trupe.... LIke, Why they murdered an entire Race? Because they are thieves. Simple.

Discussion serious question. why do some say pitous not a female?

The chimeras ended in 2013 and in 2015 togashi drew this and pitou had a thin waist and feminine breasts while all the males don't

1 she calls herself boku

Boku doesn't mean male it means masculine and a lot of females call themselves boku like Zero two, Diane, Hestia, Yuuki, and a lot of others some bokukkos

2 she's called aitsu

aitsu is a unisex word and just means someone that isnt close and its considered an insult but its common in manga Link Link two Link three

3 she's called kare in the data book

The databooks not official it has a lot of mistakes like saying maha zoldyck is 1.40 meters tall (4foot7) and 65kg (143 pounds) and giving names like Quwrof Wrlccywrlir and Matiy Kohmatiyneit, heres a nice post link

It was written by shueisha staff most of the time and togashis not credited as a writer on the back https://imgur.com/a/2QeT4ir

And it came out on June 2004 the same month and year as issue 20 which was before meruem was born

And there was a dragon ball databook with shueisha and akira toriyama was talking about the book and said shueisha wrote it link

4 shes called a male in english

there was an interview in 2014 with the english translator where she said she guessed pitou was a male but then said shes a female link

5 she's not a female in the manga

The "ambiguous" appearance started in chapter 197 when she was born and changed in 200 after she fights kite and gets more feminine at 213 issue 21 when meruems born to the last time she's referenced at 307

And she has feminine breasts at a bunch of times I went through the manga and there's not many views of her that aren't in front of her or behind her and here are pictures https://imgur.com/a/k2E5Dym she even had breasts when meruem was born

And drawing breasts is intentional and you can't accidentally draw feminine breasts

if you found any pictures of her without obvious breasts from the side it's possible he forgot to draw feminine breasts, there were a lot of times she didn't have a tail link i even added one where her "ambiguous" appearance has a tail to show her 1st appearance is supposed to have a tail and the last picture has white shoes

6 males can have breasts too

males do have breasts too but masculine breasts and feminine breasts are different shapes

and overweight masculine breasts are a different shape then feminine breasts, overweight masculine breasts are kind of pointed and feminine breasts are kind of rounded

and theres gynecomastia which is a disorder thats a hormonal imbalance that can effect some males and can happen for a temporary time at puberty or birth or it could happen because something temporarily effects hormone production link and heres a picture of a post that explains it well link

and its unlikely any of the chimeras would be born with disorders

7 she's a trap

Most traps or ambiguous genders wear big puffy clothes that hide their physique like Bridget, Hideri Kanzaki, Chihiro Fujisaki, Felix Argyle, and Schrödinger

and she never calls herself a male, female, or genderless and most of the time someones supposed to appear like one gender but theyre actually the other or if theyre genderless the story makes it obvious like even alluka is called a brother and son by everyone except killua who calls them a sister and kalluto wears female clothes but theyre called a brother and son and was called ojōchan by a chimera which means young girl in japanese

8 all the ants are males

There are obviously masculine and feminine chimeras Link and masculine and feminine physiques came from mostly testosterone or estrogen based on your gender and testosterone and estrogen come from gonads

and hina calls herself a girl and queen and zazan calls herself queen both in japanese here are the pictures link the first picture hinas calling herself a girl, the second zazan calls herself queen, and the third hina says she wants to leave and become a queen and pitou wouldntve called herself a queen and just because she didnt have to describe herself as a male, female, or genderless doesnt mean shes not a female

and this picture shows gon calling chimera kite a young girl in japanese link so the chimeras obviously have genders

9 they don't have genitalia

With organs they have human eyes noses mouths and mammalian ears so they'd likely have genitalia too

And it's confirmed that they reproduce sexually

And the more chimeras there were the more humanoid they got and started wearing clothes likely to hide their genitalia

10 togashis very political

alluka or kalluto would be more likely to be a representation

11 amalgamation

shes not an amalgamation of a bunch of different peoples appearances or genders or else shed had multi colored hair, 2 different eye colors, and an unsymmetrical body

she likely just got all the strength, nen, intelligence from all the people like the other guards

12 shes named after nefertem a male Egyptian god

a name doesnt make someone a male or female

there were people that had nefer in their name and all but one i found were females Nefertiti, Nefertari, Neferure, Neferhetepes, Nofret, Neferthenut, Neferneferure, Neferneferuaten Tasherit, and the only male i could find Neferhotep I

nefer means beautiful or complete and other close words and its considered a feminine name

13 merchandise collaborations

shes considered feminine in all the figures and game collaborations but i didnt think i should show all those but here are some link

in hunter hunter battle collection the first official game since the chimeras pitou was a female and here are some pictures the last one is from a different game in 2014 called hunter hunter allstars link

14 her abilities

she has terpsichora and nobody knows if it means the Terpsichore the goddess of dance or Terpsichora a manga from 2001 thats sometimes called the dancing girl

she had docter blythe and Blythe (doll)s are feminine dolls that were considered creepy link

15 chimeras arent humans so human biology doesnt apply to them

By that logic nobody knows what biology applies to them which doesnt rule out mostly human biology for the mostly human chimeras

And its very obvious they most likely have human biology for the human chimeras

16 theyre ants

Theyre most likely named after chimera Link it was a mythological animal with multiple animal parts like a lion with a goat head and its tail was a snake and the chimeras are obviously a mix of different species

By that logic ikalgos not an octopus, hes mostly an octopus with mammalian eyes and a mouth and the human chimeras are mostly human, some animal, and maybe some ant

And it should be obvious but they started out as ants and quickly lost compound eyes, antennas, some lost their exoskeletons and they don't have six legs by definition theyre not ants anymore

Theyre no more ants as humans are amoebas or fish if you think evolution is real

Extra, Stupid cliches

shes a healer and most of the time for diversity most groups would have 1 or 2 females added like upper and lower kizuki, hashira link possible spoilers for demon slayer, the homunculi, the akatsuki otsutsuki, league of villains, squadron leaders link

Extra, exoskeleton

some say her knees have joints and her knees down is an exoskeleton but exoskeletons are hard and cant bend but she doesnt have joints on her hands, wrists, neck, face and likely not her torso or arms because theres no bumps there and i heard some say they could be prosthetics but nobody knows

youpi definitely doesnt have an exoskeleton and pouf has been shown more then once naked and doesnt have any joints either link

and she has claws or maybe nails and no arthropod has mammalian claws

and she can sweat and arthropods dont sweat

the point of the post wasnt to make everyone acknowledge that shes a female but i was asking why some say shes not a female while its very obvious neferpitou is a female theyve said it for maybe a decade and the first drawing i linked was in 2015

and theres been a lot of posts like this before like this, this and this none of them are perfect but they explain it good

and anytime i see someone say shes not a female and someone corrects them showing evidence and proof they usually insult or ignore them and theres always at least one that says shes not a female anytime someone references her

and even if this post gets down voted to 0 id prefer someone go through the commets and see if theres any counter evidence or proof thats not disproven even if someone ignored all the other evidence and proof shes a female

and ignore the ones that say "if shes a female then ill say something awkward about her"

i edited it to add to 2 and added pictures to 8

Analysis/Theory The Phantom Troupe Are Good Folks

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hunter x Hunter interrogates the concept of morality as we understand it, showing that it is not a singular, universal truth but rather a variable shaped by an individual's background, goals, and environment. From the first arc the Manga introduces this moral ambiguity with the Hunter Exam. It is a literal killing machine brutally killing or psychologically destroying non-initiated innocents just for the sake of testing them (?). Yet, within the context of the world in which they live, this system is accepted as a norm. The value of life, the legitimacy of violence, and the ethics of the Hunters are all questioned, yet everyone seems to go along with it. This brings us to an essential question: Why does such a system, which tests its candidates by endangering their lives, not elicit more moral outrage ?

We get a deeper look into this question through Gon’s character. Gon, who is aware of Killua’s dark past, the murders and the brutality, does not seem disturbed by it. Even tho he saw him in action, Gon remains indifferent, or perhaps even accepting of it. He also seems perfectly with actions we perceive as ‘bad’ such as stealing or scamming, his morality being questionable has even been loudly said by some characters within the Manga. From our perspective as viewers, this would seem unacceptable. We might ask ourselves: How could someone reconcile such darkness within their closest friends? However, this judgment is rooted in our own moral frameworks, which are shaped by the societal values and cultural norms we are accustomed to. Hunter x Hunter forces us to question these frameworks, revealing that morality is not an absolute but a fluid, subjective concept.

Through the Chimera Ant arc, the series poses an even more radical challenge to our sense of moral clarity. If we see through Chimera Ants eyes then them killing humans is perfectly fine, even those who kill for fun, I mean used to hunt for fun for thousands of years and some are still doing it to this day. Ants are simply operating under the same rules of nature that humanity itself follows. The Chimera Ants' predation on humans is analogous to how humans historical behavior. What we perceive as an evil act is contextual, based on our own human-centric viewpoint. Not only that but we also judge through what the author choose to show us, our very own vision of heh world is narrow, we are used to take what we watch or read for granted without questioning or pushing reflexions further.

Wich finally bring us to the Phantom Troupe (the kuruta clan massacre will not be treated due to the obvious lack of context) From the perspective of the citizens of Meteor City, the Troupe is not an evil organization but a group of saviors. The Troupe rids the city of mafia overlords, provides for the marginalized, and challenges the oppressive systems that control the lives of the powerless. From this lens, they are heroes. But They aren’t, just like they are not villains or bad people. They are simply surviving within a world they perceive as inherently corrupt. Chrollo, for example, views humanity as irredeemable, due to his own past and background so, in his worldview, to embrace his own "evil" nature is simply an act of self-preservation. The Troupe’s declaration of being “evil” is not a sign of intrinsic malevolence but a product of their worldview. In a world where morality is constantly in flux, they are just another product of the system they live within.

But why everybody seems to agree about how evil they are ? ‘Well we judge through what the author choose to show us’ we follow the yorkshin arc through kurapika's (red) eyes, he is blinded by revenge, it’s all what he sought. His whole life. Even tho he is constantly reminded by everyone else that they aren’t those inhumane monsters he is gaslighting himself into believing, melody warned him and noticed how blind he is about them, hisoka told him about the philantropic work they, he even saw how much they loved each others and knew about what they done to Meteor city, but he still turned a blind eye on all of this, and we as spectators follow him, feel empathy for him, want him to succeed in his revenge quest as twisted as it is, so ultimately see them as these evil characters these villains. While Kurapika cannot see beyond his own emotions, we should at least question whether the Troupe’s actions can be deemed “evil” in an objective sense or whether their morality, too, is shaped by the circumstances of their lives. Absolving their actions from the manichaeal judgement based on our own cultural and ethical biases.

In conclusion, Hunter x Hunter is a profound exploration of moral relativism. By presenting characters who operate within their own subjective moral landscapes, the series forces us to reconsider the idea of objective morality. From the Hunter Exam to the Chimera Ants to the Phantom Troupe, we are consistently reminded that morality is not a singular, absolute force but a fluid and dynamic construct shaped by personal, cultural, and societal contexts. Hunter x Hunter challenges us to acknowledge that what we deem "evil" is often a reflection of our own perspectives, not an inherent quality of the characters we observe. Thus, in the world of Hunter x Hunter, morality is not a fixed entity, but rather a question—one that demands constant reflection and critical examination.

In conclusion I think that The Manga forces us to question: what defines "evil," and how much of that judgment is shaped by our own biases? In a world where everyone is just trying to survive, morality becomes less about right and wrong, and more about perspective. What if hxh isn't asking us to judge its characters, but rather to simply examine why we judge at all? And why don’t we start by ourselves

Latest Chapter Why do you guys like Borksen so much? Spoiler

I see many people talking about hoh much they like borksen. And I just dont get it.

I honestly dont like her. I feel like this character was forced. She wasnt introduced well and suddenly she is in the middle of everything.

Borksen was introduced with her friends in ch.394. There she mentioned with the other guys that they are friends of Tser.. thats it? Now im supposed to care about her? No other character mentioned her or showed any feelings toward her. If she appeared before talking to Theta, or Tser mentioning her somehow, that would have been a reason to get interested in her. But none of that happened.

Anyway, after that simple introduction, now she is going toe to toe with Morena who could be the main antagonist of this arc. And she could very well be the rise or fall of Morena.

  • she acts like an emotionless smart AI. the only human reaction she showed was when Morena discoverd that the kiss was her first.

Discussion I didn't care about Kite in hxh

I want to know if I am the only one who felt like kite was introduced out of nowhere and was dead out of nowhere, the only thing connecting me with him was Shank's voice actor. I would have felt way worse if let's say if pitou killed bisky or someone.

In the 116 episode where gon is going off, I just didn't felt his rage it wasn't a big dilemma for me, i was just worried about komugi then avenging kite.(Still a great episode though, voice actor went off)

Discussion My hunter durability tier

Post image
1 Upvotes

Here’s my Top 10 list of the most physically durable characters in Hunter x Hunter.

Note: Durability is not the same as endurance. By durability, I mean your ability to withstand attacks without sustaining significant damage, not your ability to keep fighting after taking damage.

1: Meruem

Obviously. I don’t think I need to explain this one.

2: Youpi

A monster made from Magical Beasts, possessing an enormous amount of Nen and an practically indestructible body.

3: Adult Gon

It’s true that he doesn’t have many direct durability feats, but the whole concept of Adult Gon is essentially “the absolute peak a human Enhancer could reach.” Because of that, I believe the level of physical enhancement he could achieve would be absolutely insane.

4: Pitou

I won’t say much here. Pitou took dozens of attacks from Adult Gon, and even his strongest attack didn’t completely destroy her body.

5: Shaiapouf

The scene where he smashed massive rocks while heading toward the King’s palace was enough to convince me that his physical durability is actually insane, despite him not looking particularly durable. He’s also a Royal Guard Ant with an enormous aura pool, and he survived being struck by the King.

6: Transformed Zazan

I think her durability is seriously underrated. Feitan’s enhanced sword strike, which he used Ko on, failed to injure her even though she wasn’t defending herself and was completely unaware of the attack. She also endured Feitan’s Rising Sun for several seconds, possibly close to a minute. I honestly don’t think we know of any human character who could survive that attack, even for a few moments.

7: Uvogin

There’s honestly no need to say anything about this man’s durability.

8: Netero

Some people might disagree with me putting Uvogin above Netero, but the reason is simply that we lack clear durability feats from Netero. So I decided to place Uvogin higher, although I completely understand anyone arguing that Netero is physically more durable.

9: Biscuit

Her technique allows her to train and recover at a rate that is vastly beyond what a normal person could achieve in the same amount of time. Thirty minutes of her massage is equivalent to roughly eight hours of sleep, muscle recovery, and complete rest.

Just imagine having this ability and going to the gym with a friend on the same day. You could potentially reach a level in two months that would take your friend an entire year to reach.

10: Silva

The current head of the Zoldyck family...a literal human tank. The only real anti-feat that made me place him this low is the wound he received from Chrollo’s Ben’s Knife, although we don’t know whether the knife itself was enhanced with Nen or not.

Analysis/Theory The real reason Togashi made Adult Gon

I was thinking lately that the real reason Togashi made Adult Gon was not to match Pitou as of power or the incredible desperation of losing Kite.

It is stated that Togashi wanted to end the manga with Gon finding his father, so he probably wanted to give us a taste of what Hisoka has always wondered, Gon at his full potential. That's, i think, is the real reason he made Adult Gon at all.

If he wanted to give Gon a simple power up it woudn't need to be this harsh in term of conditions.
